Desktop Msgr - connection password on reinstall

Hi -  hope someone can help.   I had two months of trouble-free operation and syncing with my HP laptop and BB 8330 Curve, all was well until I had to send the laptop in for hinge repair... well the service people also re-imaged my computer too.  (Gee thanks)  Meanwhile my BB is still getting email and functioning fine with the programs I loaded prior to this.  BUT - I would like to connect it back to the desktop manager too.
So loaded the install disk and connected the BB via USB, it sees it but asks me for a password.  I put in the PW that does work to unlock the BB, but it does not recognize it.  What should I do - I've tried 6 times and don't want to wipe the device!!
Thanks,
Kate

  • Desktop software connection password

I have recently changed my laptop and have just downloaded the Blackberry software so that I can transfer some pictures and sync my Bold.  The problem is I don't remember the password from my initial setup.  I am now at 5 connections and the next one will wipe my BB memory.  How do I restart the process?

    Hello,
You don't. The password you are entering is the user-created device security password, the one that you must enter on the device in order to unlock it whenever it is locked. There is no "master" or "override" password...only the user created password will succeed. If you fail the last time, your BB will wipe clean and you will have to restore from your most recent backup...or, if you have no backup, start all over (this time hopefully remembering the password you create). BBs remain the most secure mobile devices available, and this is one of those features that allows them to maintain that rating.
    Good luck!

  • Internet Connect password won't turn off?

    Hey there folks,
This is more of an annoyance/inconvenience than a problem. I would like to turn off the Internet Connect password request dialog box that comes on only when I try to connect via the modem status icon on the menu bar (option available via Internet Connect).
When I try to connect to the internet with a dial-up connection (please don't ask me why I'm still using dial-up…), I try to connect through the modem status icon and at first it tries to connect, but then up comes an Internet Connect dialog box asking for my (login) password –if I choose Cancel or enter an incorrect password the connection that is being attempted disconnects –however, it does connect if I enter the correct login password. Yet if I choose to connect directly through the Internet Connect application, there is no dialog box asking for a password, and it connects to the internet just fine.
I should mention that I have just started using the login/password feature, and also have set a Master Password for FileVault (under Security in System Preferences), but FileVault has not been turned on. I have also fidgeted with KeyChain Access, but have not yet aclimatized myself to its surroundings (although hopefully I haven't messed anything up). I have only just had this problem since fooling around with these password/security features.
Also, I have read the Apple Discussion Board discussions about accessing Accounts in System Preferences and turning on "Automatically login as:" (under Login Options) and also about changing the password to an empty field (no characters), also under Accounts. I have tried these options to no avail (also having closed/quit the System Preferences panel and having restarted the computer). I have tried these with administrator settings on for the main user (I also have a guest user setting with some restrictions and no administrator settings –but I can connect via the modem status icon when logged in as the guest user without the Internet Connect password dialog box coming up –?)
Personally, this seems to me to be a software glitch due to the fact that connecting via the Internet Connect application does not require a password, but connecting via the modem status icon on the menu bar does. (Also, I previously updated my Tiger OS to 10.4.2 from 10.4.1, but noticed that I got a lot of password dialog boxes upon trying to do the littlest things, that I reinstalled the original Tiger OS and then only updated to 10.4.1 –but these OS update shennanigans happened some time ago –so I digress…)
If anyone has any ideas on how to turn off this Internet Connect password dialog box (preferably other than reinstalling the system software), I would appreciate it.

Have you been repairing Permissions before & after every install/update & rebooting?
I'm thinking that the difference is where the parameters are stored, I think the Icon ones are linked to the Network CP, might drag these files to the Desktop & reboot...
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
You can always move them back & reboot again if it doesn;t work.

  • Apple Remote Desktop not connecting to O2 Wireless Box

I've successfully got Apple Remote Desktop to connect to, view and control various Macs connected to numerous routers.
But the O2 Wireless Box doesn't want to play ball and I simply can't figure out why it won't allow me to connect.
Using http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/O2/O2-TG585v7/Apple_Remot e_Desktop.htm as a guide (this was the only O2 router it referred to), I'm forwarding ports 3283, 5900 & 5988 but I simply can't connect using Apple Remote Desktop via the Internet.  It just sticks on 'Connecting...' and then goes to a failed message.  It suggested that, perhaps, Remote Desktop isn't enabled on the other machine ... but it is.
It seems to be something very odd about the router (it doesn't even allow remote management of the router as O2 removed that functionality fearing it was 'too dangerous' to allow the end user access to this) and I'm wondering whether there's something else I need to do to make the connection.
Can anyone give me as guidance on this please?  It's driving me crazy!

    Hi Jason,
It is often difficult to explain a problem, so don't worry. Let's break it down.
Firstly, does ARD work when you are at your place of work? - can you control a mac?
    If so, this is good.
Ok, from work you need to access your router and find your public IP address, you only have one. You will often find this is the status page.
The IP is usually a class A address starting with 80 or 90, but this obviously isn't always so, depending on your ISP and region. make sure you are not using the router's local lan IP! You will also need to make sure your home router is allowing ARD ports through!
You now need to port forward the ARD ports to the mac you want to control, which I believe you have done. For example, port 3283 > IP address of remote mac.
I know when I did this, I just opened up all ports for a couple of minutes just to get it working, then I locked access down. If you havn't done so then you need to enable remote management on your work router so you can configure it at home.
On your mac at 'home' open ARD, and go to file> add by address and enter the PUBLIC IP address. You will also need to enter the admin user name and password for the said mac.
That's it, you should have control.
If your macs at work and home have a firewall enabled then you will need to update your rules.
    Good luck!

    Yes you certainly can.
Right click any desktop in the list > Settings > in the left pane select the desktop you want to auto connect to > check "Auto connect to this desktop".

  • Can I use the HDMI out on a HP ALL IN ONE TOUCHSCREEN Desktop to connect a second monitor with HDMI

Can I use the HDMI out on a HP ALL IN ONE TOUCHSCREEN Desktop to connect a second monitor with HDMI  in without any additional  software or graphics adaptor.  I have a 520-1070
HP - 23" Touch-Screen TouchSmart All-In-One Computer - 8GB Memory - 2TB Hard Drive ? I used a HDMI to HDMI cable and the monitor was not  recognized.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop Computer. As previously stated your computer Doesn't have a HDMI output, instead it has a HDMI input. This is designed to let you connect a game console, a DVD/Bluray player, etc. to use as a monitor.
If you wish to conect a second monitor to your computer, you will need to use a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or EVGA UV Plus+ UV19. Using an adapter like these with the touch feature of your computer may cause issues with pointer control and you may need to disable the touch feature to use "extended desktop".

  • Can I use Apple Remote desktop to connect over the internet?

I would like to use Apple Remote Desktop to connect back to my MacPro desktop at home while I am on my Macbook Air at work.  Will I need a static IP from my service provider to do it.

    Hi
It's not absolutely necessary but it would be more useful if you did have one. Most ISPs will require you to have a business class broadband service at your home rather than a residential one. These cost more (a lot more in some cases) than a residential service. Call your home location's ISP and discuss it with them.
If the cost is too much then you could go for a DynDNS account which is free. The details of this account would be configured in the whatever you're using as a firewall at your home's location. This assumes the firewall has the facility to add such an account. Thereafter it's just a question of configuring the port fowarding feature of that firewall.
A potentially 'big' problem though is whether or not your workplace will allow that kind of traffic out of their network. This would be something you'd need to discuss with them first.

My Safari Icon ( Button) is missing on my iMac after I downloaded a update. How can I get the icon  (Button Safari) back on my desktop and connecting again to the Internet ?...
    Thanks for the help

Often when people think they've deleted an application, what's really happened is that they deleted its icon from the Dock. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. If the application is in that folder, drag it to the Dock (not to the Desktop or anywhere else.) The other Dock icons will move out of the way to make a place for it.

  • Dynamic Parameter Prompting for Database Connection Password

    Post Author: rsharp
    CA Forum: Publishing
    Hi
I've been finding recently that reports using dynamic parameters and published into Crystal Server prompt for the database connection password when the dynamic parameter is accessed.  Thing is, this only started happening recently for new and already existing reports with dynamic parameters and I don't know why.  In Crystal Reports the dynamic parameter can be accessed without a database connection prompt being displayed but not after publishing.  (Maybe there's a problem with the Publishing Wizard?)  Static parameters work just fine just as they always have, but I'm a bit mystified by the fact that dynamic parameters used to work (without prompting) but now they don't.  Any advice or opinion would be much appreciated.

  • WRT54GL not allowing Remote Desktop Web Connection

Im currently using a WRT54GL in a network with just two computer. Computer A is using a wired connection and Computer B is wireless with a Linksys adapter. Public IP address from ISP is a static IP address and all is setup in the router allowing both computers internet access with no problems. Both computers are setup with static IP. Computer A is 192.168.1.101. Computer B is 192.168.1.103. Both computers are installed with Internet Information Services.
    1) Setting Up The Two Computers: I setup Computer A for port 50001, ie. I opened Control Panel, clicked Performance & Maint., Clicked Admin Tools, Double clicked IIS. Expanded Websites, right clicked Default Website and clicked on Properties. On the Website tab, I changed the value of the TCP port to the one above, 50001. I Opened the Properties Window of My Computer and clicked to the Remote tab. I placed a green Check into where it states, [Allow users to connect remotely to this computer]. On side note, I have admin rights to the computer so I  did not click to [Select Remote Users]. I then accessed the Windows Firewall Settings, In the Exception Tab, I have Remote Desktop with a Check - Set with TCP 3389. I also added new port - game it Name: Remote Access, Port:50001. Settings were all saved. (I did all the same exact steps for Computer B, but the only difference is I used for 50002 instead)
    2) Setting up the router: I access the router configuration with IP 192.168.1.1 Clicked to the Applications and Gaming. Selected [Port Range Forward]. Below where it tells to enter the ports and name for each port I entered for the first port. Application: FM-HS01, Start and End Ports: 50001 to 50001, Protocol: TCP, IP Address: 192.168.1.101, Enabled: {checked}. I again setup another below that for Computer B. FM-HS02, 50002 to 50002, TCP, 192.168.1.103, Enabled: {Checked}. I then clicked to Port Triggering screen. Under Application: [Remote Access], Trigger Range Start - End: [50001 to 50002], Forwarded Range Start - End: [3389 to 3389], Enabled [Checked]
    Under the Security Tab for Firewall - I unchecked {Block Anonymous Internet Requests}, but have {Filter Multicast}, {Filter Internet NAT Redirection} , {Filter IDENT(Port 113)} all checked.
I also enabled remote access to router using default port 8080.
By using the ISP Static IP: ie http://64.193.93.46:8080/, I am able to access the router config page no problems. Problem is trying to access each Computer A and B. For Example: in IE address bar, I entered http://64.193.93.46:50001/ I get page stating Under Construction. Now if I try http://64.193.93.46:50001/tsweb/ I actually get the Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop Web Connection screen stating to enter Server __________ Size: and Connection Button. I enter the Computer Name for Computer A: FM-HS01, Choose the appropriate size and clicked connect. Page loads then all I see is an outline of a box where I assume the remote computer's screen should show. A message appears after trying to load stating: "
Remote Desktop can’t find the computer “FM-HS01”. This might mean that “FM-HS01” does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to."
This is where I have been ending up at. I have not able to get pass this part. Any Help Please??? I am not sure is there are other ports I would need to open along with the ones I have specified above. On another side note, my Antivirus software for both computers are CA eTrust AntiVirus which I have also configured for both computers.

Just change the ports to what ever you think of and be sure to make the right single port forwards (if you put comp A to 50001, make *.*.*.101:50001 forward and so on). Just be sure you are not running anything else on the same port, on the same computer (for excample the IIS terminal server client application). And from outside you just connect the remote desktop client to your external iport_number ie use the comp_ip:50001 for comp A in the client program connection window (not http:// in browser).

  • Cisco connect software wants to match the admin password to cisco connect password?

As much as possible i want only one SSID for my router, so i dont want to have another SSID for guest. To protect my router
settings I need to have a different admin password from those of passphrase (i.e. wifi password).
Why is it that cisco connect software wants to match the admin password to cisco connect password?
The cisco connect password is the same as the passphrase. I think its unsafe to have similar passes for both admin password
    and passphrase.
Is there any way that cisco connect software would work under different admin password & passphrase?

From what I can tell, the router is set up so that it broadcasts two seperate SSID's with two unique passwords.  If you logon to the SSID-Guest network, you are not allowed any kind of Admin access to the router.  If you attempt to use the Cisco Connect software, you'll eventually get an error saying that it could not find a network (unless there is an unconfigured router running factory defaults in range).  I verified this using a Cisco Linksys E4200 and a few laptops.
So long as you utilize the guest network properly, you should be able to maintain security on your network and use Cisco Connect.  Obviously this isn't ideal for most commercial use, but then again I don't know why you would want to use this software on that scale.
If you are trying to keep one SSID for the network, I think you're going to have to use the web based service and do a little manual configuration.
TLDR:  Seta different password for the guest network and never give out the primary network password.  Guests don't have admin access, even while using Cisco Connect so long as they are connected to the -Guest SSID.
