Desktop works, laptop doesn't

I'm having a great deal of trouble getting my Kodak ESP 7 recognized by my laptop (Lenovo T61, XP Pro). It's easily detected by my desktop computer, or by my Imac.
The big difference is that this is a corporate laptop, and it's got the Cisco VPN client on it, however the failure happens even on a fresh reboot before the vpn client is turned on - I've even tried turning off the vpn client service to no avail.
Any ideas? What can I do to troubleshoot this? I've tried using wireshark to see what packets are flowing, but it's very hard to pick out the bonjour stuff from the other noise.

OK, a little more detail. Both the desktop and laptop have the Cisco VPN client, yet the desktop works fine. I think I've found a workaround procedure on the laptop, but it's painful:
- boot
- turn off the Cisco vpn service
- power cycle the printer
Then most (but not all) times, it becomes connected again, even if I then fire up the Cisco vpn service and client.
Note that I can't put the cisco service on manual start - that messes too much with vpn.
I really wish either Apple or Cisco or both would fix this - it's really crazy that bonjour won't coexist with something that's pretty common in the business world.

  • Keyboard stopped working, now laptop doesn't turn on at all

    Hi All,  I've got a HP Pavillion something, I think it's a G6 although that might just ring a bell because of the song....
    Anyway, this morning I was on my laptop, I did a facebook post with no issues, then tried to create a new folder in "my music" and noted that some of the keys on my keyboard were having no effect.  Thinking my laptop may have felt overworked I just did a restart.... but when trying to enter my password I had no luck, the keyboard barely worked.  I tried another restart, again no luck, and then one of those hard restarts, where you remove the battery and AC adapter etc.
    Now my laptop doesn't switch on at all.... I've swapped the battery with my parent's laptop (we have the same one) and tried their AC adapter, but to no avail.  My laptop is completely 100% dead.
    I've had it since March last year, so I'm only just out of warranty (typical)  but if this has happened already it's really not fit for purpose.  Previous laptops from Dell and Samsung have given me a good 4 years of use before I've got to a point where they're no longer up to the job, but both I could still switch on and use for a good lenght of time after they were replaced.
    I don't have any money to get it fixed, I am going back to University in a months time and deffo wont' have any money to get it fixed.  I need a laptop for my coursework, and for my job which relies solely on the use of my laptop. 
    Does anyone have any ideas what I could try to see if it'll work again....short of bashing it up with a hammer (and then of course it'll never work again) I have no idea what to do. 
    Anyone know how much it is to get a laptop fixed if that's my only option?  How much do people who can fix these things charge?

  • Working with Lightroom between a Windows desktop and laptop

    Please forgive me if there appears to be an obvious answer to this question.  I'm sure a lot of it has to do with work flows.
    I have both a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit desktop and laptop both with Adobe CC (Photoshop CC 2014 & Lightroom 5.6) installed.
    I always treat my desktop as my "Main" machine as it holds ALL of my 10,000 odd images all stor ed in a folder structure.
    As a very new Lightroom user, I'm slowly starting to bring all these images into a LR catalogue folder by folder, but this will take some time.
    My actual question is how can I edit a photo on my laptop in LR but ensure that the edited image is stored back in my Lightroom Catalogue on my desktop?   I hope this question makes sense.
    I don't store all my images up onto the cloud seeing we're talking just over 100GB.  It's not like LR Mobile where one can select an image or collection to Sync and my understanding is that it appears on your Lightroom Mobile; I'm an android person and so yes,  am STILL waiting for an android version of Lightroom Mobile

    Do the editing on the laptop, then use the Lightroom command File->Export as Catalog, transfer the resulting files to the desktop, use the Lightroom command File->Import from Another Catalog

    Those links weren't particularly helpful to me. They convinced me to install the drivers for my USB 2.0 card, but that didn't make a difference. Still no OS X without a PRAM reset if I've dared to venture into OS 9.
    It's always been my understanding that an unblessed System Folder will not be selectable in OS 9's Startup Disk control panel. My folders are blessed and healthy. Of course I'm running 9.2.2, as stated in my first message. I also frequently verify and repair my disks and permissions.
    I did a verbose startup of OS X, and noticed something funny about "ATY...too old." Perhaps this problem is related? I ventured into my system.log file and there it was, repeated over and over, everytime I've booted this computer:

    Anyone know how to interpret that? Is it related to my problem? I googled it, and all I found was a web board of people arguing over whether the Apple installed stock ATI Rage video card that came in the G3's is appropriate for Panther. The Ye's have it as far as I'm concerned...as long as I leave OS 9 alone, my video is fine on this computer!

    iOS devices do not pair with computers, as data transfer over bluetooth is not supported.
    Computers are not airplay compatible unless you have downloaded an app to make them so.
    User to user forum, so I don't care if you switch to android or any other threats you make.

  • Can't connect to internet via laptop, but desktop works fine via Airport

    I am having a very strange problem. I have an iMac and Macbook Air. Both on an Airport Express network, connected to Verizon DSL. My iMac never has a problem connecting to the internet. However, my Macbook Air almost never can connect. I am able to get onto my network with both computers without a problem. The only thing is my laptop doesn't seem to see an internet connection. Sometime it works, but mostly not. One thing to note is that Verizon had me recently switch my modem to Bridge Mode so that I could properly use the Back to My Mac service. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

    Is the Airport Express the router, or is it also in Bridge Mode?
    Someone has to be the router and do the necessary Version DSL login (assuming you are on one of the Verizon DSL lines that requires PPPoE logins).
    If your iMac is doing the PPPoE login, then it is the only system that will be allowed to use the DSL connection (1 PPPoE login per DSL line). Again this is assuming your Verizon DSL line requires a PPPoE login.
    If your Airport Express is in Router mode and is doing any necessary logins to Verzion, then ignore what I have just said.
    The next question is what versions of Mac OS X are on each system? Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4), Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5)?
    Do you know if you are getting an IP address assigned to the MacBook Air? Assuming the Airport Express is the router assigning DHCP IP addresses, I would expect it to have a 10.0.1.* address.
    If the MacBook Air has a good IP address, does it have good DNS servers? You could experiment by assigning your own DNS servers, such as 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 from OpenDNS.org. You would set these in System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS (assuming Leopard on the MacBook Air).

      Hi, I tried to install the update of the BIOS:
    BIOS update for Satellite A100/A105, Satellite M110/M115, and Tecra A7
      but unfortunatelly when it start to be installed, a blue window shous up, the laptop resets and never start again. I can turn on the laptop and enter to the BIOS, but unfortunatelly when the Hard Drive try to start to work, it doesn't do nothing, just show a completly black screen. I tried to install windows again from CD, but after press any key for start from CD, the screen goes black and no more happens, until I press the power on button for more than a couple of seconds.
      My laptop is A105-S4004 and I has windows XP.
      Please, if you have any solution please let me know. I really feel very comfortable with Toshiba Laptops since I study in the university but this fact give me a very bad experience with this.

    I got my MacBook back from repair for Random Shutdowns on Monday and now it suffers from Random Proper Start-ups. The first time it happened, I took it to the Apple Store and saw a genius. He reset my PRAM and it started up fine. He gave me a case number because he didn't want to just send me away seeing that my computer has just been returned to me from repair a couple of days ago (what a nice guy ^_^ ). But this morning I had the same problem again.
    I tried the hardware test on the OS X disc and it says that everything is fine. If it happens again, I'm going to take it to the store. The only thing is school starts on Wednesday for me, so I don't want to send it out for repair again. But alas, I will if I must...~_~
