Device control through USB

I have a customer that has a kiosk that they want to enhance and modify. The original version was done using a program called LabView which communicates with a DAQ module plugged into the usb port. There are five buttons. The first 4 buttons pump dirty water out of their corresponding containers into a holding talk. The 5th button pumps the dirty water through a filter and into a clean water tank. My question - is there a way to control the motors and servos through the DAQ module using Director?

I found out from one of the company reps that the DAQ Module is controlled by C++ commands, LabView commands, and ActiveX commands. So I should be able to insert an ActiveX control in Director and do it that way.

  • PWM control through USB 6008/09

    Hello all
I have already read a thread regarding the topic but i am not satisfied with the replies.
I have discovered few programs that can run PWM in LabView, but they all are for DAQmx. So, will those programs run through USB 6008? and i also read that the output will be a sort of slow response output?
I am aiming to power a micro-pump rated at 12VDC. So, i want to run the program in LabView, use the USB 6008 to connect to a the DC motor. I know that some amplification will be required because the output of the USB 6008 is rated as 0-5V.
But, my question is can i successfully control the speed of the DC micro-pump ( motor) using the USB 6008??

    Thanks for the reply.
If you just need to output voltages(not PWM) then you can use the Analog outputs of the 6008,
    Analog Output
    Analog outputs........................................2
    Output resolution ....................................12 bits
Maximum update rate .............................150 Hz, software-timed
    Output range ...........................................0 to +5 V
    Output impedance...................................50 Ω
    Output current drive................................5 mA
    Power-on state ........................................0 V
    Slew rate .................................................1 V/μs
    Short circuit current ................................50 mA
Absolute accuracy (no load) ...................7 mV typical,
36.4 mV maximum at full scale
So yes you could output a voltage between 0 and 5 Volts. You could only change the voltage level every 10ms or so.
In answer to what your device (pump) requires I don't know.
"So, this got me thinking, do i really need PWM control for the micro-pump (DC motor)?"
Have you got a specification datasheet (website) of the pump? - I dont mind taking a look.
Have you looked in the NI Example Finder to VIs that generate PWM and AnalogOutput (AO?). In the example finder (help>>Find Example) it gives you information on what devices can use the examples - simply look for the ones which say usb6008.

  • IOS8 music control through usb in car (Jeep & Volvo)

after updating both mine and my wife's iPhone5's and to iOS8 our in car controls started working intermittently for actually starting, skipping, pausing, etc.. playback of our iPhones both in my 2011 Volvo S40 and her 2014 Jeep Cherokee (through USB connection, which previously worked with no issue).
we then upgraded our phones to iPhone6's and same issue (after updating to one the next small iOS8 updates the issue was slightly less intermittently, but still sporadic and very unreliable; 8.1.3 update made no difference).
control works perfectly through bluetooth streaming in her Jeep, however.
I assume there were changes made to the music playback control (trickplay) mapping in iOS8, is there a ticket out to fix this or is the issue even know?
Are others having the same issue?

    I went here: https://rsur.extra.chrysler.com/rsur/Uconnect.do
You have to have a flash drive to install the image to and plug the USB into your Jeep.  Haven't tried that yet but will tonight.

  • No communication with device control through AJA Io?

So this is weird (to me). I'm trying to capture a few Beta tapes and can't seem to get the device control going. For whatever reason I'm getting the "No Communication" message in my Log and Capture window. Of course, I'm getting the image in the window, but I can't control the deck through Log and Capture.
    My settings seem right:
    -Deck in remote mode
-FCP set to AJA Io device control
-Capture settings at AJA Io Betacam to DV (I know this isn't a problem because I can see the image)
-I have unplugged and reset each cable in each port on the deck, Io, and computer
The only thing I can think about is that the last footage I captured was from my MiniDV camera, so I must have tweaked some kind of a setting that I don't know about. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Stef

Device control: AJA Io RS-422 NTSC
The RS-422 cable is connected to both the deck and the AJA. The Firewire cable is connected to my 400 port and the AJA.
There has to be some kind of a problem with my 400 port, because I just daisy chained the AJA (which only uses a 400 cable) through my Lacie drive, which is connected to the laptop through the 800 port.
Is there an explanation for this? Hopefully besides, "Sounds like your 400 port chucks it, Stef. Time to go get a new one."

Ok, fair enough.  But since Job's death - Apple's control on leaks has been terrible.  I got the new iPhone, and I like it - but it hasn't made nearly as big as an impression as previous ones.  Because of the vast ammount of leaks.  With the iPad mini leaks, it's 99% sure to come out next week.
Apple uses many manufacturers and it's massive also websites prefer to report on Apple whether true or false because it brings more hits.
Amd by "others" I meant other people on iPads - not other devices/manufacturers.  It's possible to do so, I just want to know how.  I honestly don't think we'll ever be in a Post-PC era until all tablets allow us to use USB in the way computers do.
No, USB is not the future, you missed the memo about cloud and wireless computing?

  • Recently I've been getting repeating static noise through USB connected devices in GarageBand

I've been using GarageBand for recording for the past year.  Only recently have I encountered an issue with the use of ANY usb connected device.  I'm using a Macbook Pro Retina 15" and the connected devices I've encountered the issue with are a Blue Snowball Mic, M-Audio Axiom 49 Midi Controller, and guitars plugged in via a Rocksmith Cable... pretty much any time I record through USB I get a repeating static noise approximately every 35 seconds that lasts for 2-3 seconds.  The noise is very prevalent and sounds very much like what cell signal noise sounds like.  I tested putting my iPhone into Airplane mode hoping that would solve the issue but to no avail.
I've been using this same exact setup for over a year and only in the last month has there been any problem like this.
Anyone else seeing this problem and does anyone know of a solution... it's pretty much rendered GarageBand useless for recording at this point for me.

Fixed my own problem... if anyone else has this issue and sees this all I had to do was update to ML 10.8.3 and it took care of what ever bug was in the system.

  • DC motor closed loop control through labview using usb 6008

    Hello
i am doing a project in which i want to control the speed of a DC motor (PID control) through labVIEW 2010. I am having a DC motor, a drive unit that regulates the voltage to the motor by getting analog voltage from 0 to 3.3V ( it can be used for both directions) and i also have a NI usb 6008 board. The problem is that i can't feed the usb 6008 with the digital signal from my hall effect speed sensor. Is it posible with this setup to control the motor?? I can also try to use the pulse as analog input and trasform the frequency into rpm's. Then i am thinking of generating an analog signal to feed the motor drive. If you have any further suggestion of a probably better hardware setup would be more than helpfull to me.
    Sincerely
    Jason Chaloulos

    Hello Michael
Thanks for the reply. I came across those topics before and all of them are trying to generate a PWM signal as output i want to use just an analog signal output so timing on the output is not that important i guess. i am struggling on getting the frequency from the digital input signal that my hall effect sensor generates. Since the maximum speed of the motor is 3000 rpm and with my tooth wheel the maximum  output frequency of the sensor will be 300Hz which i see its way less than the limitation of my ni board. Is there any tutorial documentation that might help me with this one ? Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards
    Jason

  • Disabling Vehicle iPod Device Control

    Hi all,
I recently purchased a 2008 Merecedes Benz C300 with the iPod connector built in. When my iphone is connected the vehicle instructs the iPod app to immediately start playing content. There's no way to stop it, but there are some rudimentary controls that can be accessed through the steering wheel.
As I'm starting to use more and more audio based apps (audible, etc), things are getting complicated. Quicktime audio playback through Safari or iTunes for podcasts often gets overridden by the iPod app almost immediately after the play button is pressed. Some apps do work, others immediately surrender to the iPod app.
My question is what pins pass device control data between the phone and vehicle? I recently purchased an extension cable (by default the cable lives only in the glove box) so my plan was to snip the wires from the extension cable that carry the device control data.
I have a feeling audio will continue to feed through the vehicle when the aux mode is selected regardless of whether or not it can talk to the iPhone. I'd prefer to risk my $30 cable than spend another $200 to uninstall the iPod integration kit.

    Hi there:
Sorry to trouble you again with this but you have been the only person to respond to my earlier query with a sensible and helpful response. Following your suggestion earlier I went to an Apple store intending to buy a new cable but thought I would check with the Genius Bar anyway. As it turns out both my itunes and my ipod are fine as is my cable so there was no need to buy a new one. The assistant there suggested that there wasn't enough power coming through my laptop USB port to power my ipod device. For lack of an alternative explanation, this seems acceptable to me but entirely inexplicable as I work off my 1TB external hard drive with my laptop ALL the time and never have a problem powering that. I fail to understand how a laptop USB port that emits enough power to read a 1TB device can fail to read a 120GB ipod.
However as an alternative the genius bar assistant suggested the following: - He said that I could still continue to download new music on my problem laptop but could simply copy and paste the itunes library folder into another laptop to PC under the My Music area and then sync my ipod with that. It seems like a sensible alternative but having heard horror stories of people struggling to sync different computers and devices with Apple content, I would like a second opinion from you if you think this would work. I once had trouble moving my itunes library from my D drive to C drive in the same laptop so the thought of copying my itunes library into an entirely different computer terrifies me. I dont want to lose my music on which I have spent a fortune. Do you think the genius bar assistant's suggestion would work?
Really sorry for the trouble but I would really appreciate a second opinion. Thanks.

  • Audio input either through audio jack or through USB.

I need to connect a device on my laptop that only has ONE audio panel (for a headphone AND microphone device).
This does not recognize my microphone only device.
Is there a driver I can download to use for it to recognize my microphone?
I also have a USB that I can connect instead, which driver should I download for it to record sound through USB?

    Hi Nikker,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I saw your post regarding the problems with the microphone. Most HP notebooks have a built-in mic to confirm that I will need to know your product number. You said it won't recognize your microphone but does it see it in Sound in your Control Panel. If it is listed there we can try to set it as the default recording device. This third-party link will show you how to do that about halfway down.
As for a driver that will let you record sound through your USB with a USB microphone there is no HP driver for that. There might be a driver from the company that makes the USB microphone.
Also what is your operating system?

  • Unable to initialize capture device and device control in HDV

I shot with a Sony HVR-Z1U/Z1N and am using a Sony HDV 1080i tape deck to digitize.
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and installed FCP Pro 5 on it. After getting over some time code issues we were chugging along, when on the 4th tape the image on the log and capture screen suddenly dissapeared (I could get audio and could see the image on the tape deck). Well after taking the tape out, checking and rechecking it I popped it back in and ever since then, I have been getting this error mssg "Unable to initialize capture device and device control."
I have tried deleting the preferences and starting from scratch. If I do that, and choose the easy setup with HDV- 1080i60, it gives me this error "Unable to locate the following external devices- HDV (1440 X 1080) 30fps.
I upgraded to FCP 5.1.2 this morning and upgraded the OS to 10.4.7 and QT to 7.1.3 and still no change.
Im at my wits end, Ive been working on this for a whole week now.
    Thank you,
    Bugs

It has been reported to take more than one attempt to correct the installation but, if properly executed on a machine without other system problems, the QT reinstall process does work. The key element here is you must reinstall QT after you trash the receipts. The process is listed below.
    x
To do a full quicktime reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
If this doesn't work, then the problem lies elsewhere:
    1. your system - user preferences, firewire ports or other system elements.
    2. your equipment - camera/deck/firewire cables.
    3. your process - not setting up the software properly or using the software erroneously.
Listed below is a troubleshooting process. Not all steps are appropriate but the general process of isolating the problem is useful.

When connected to my new Ford Mondeo, my ipod nano can be controlled through user interface in car.  This worksd most of the time, but after a while if I try to change the music or search, it comes up with message 'Loading Data'.  I then have to pull out USB and reinseert, at which point it works again.  Has anyone esle expereinced this/have a solution?

Does not matter if anyone else has this issue.  You need to contact the Ford dealership.  It's their product you are having problems with.

  • How to use mobile internet in xp system through usb cable

I was using mobile internet on my pc through usb tether. I have a xp system and I connect through use cable. I downloaded PdaNet+ usb tether driver and it was working fine for a couple of days. But now it is not working and I can't even re-install it. Can anyone tell me the other option to install usb tether driver on xp system.

Not possible. The USB connection only allows for data transfer between the computer and the device, it cannot function as a gateway to the Internet.

  • How can i use labview for communicating with pic18 microcontroller through usb port?

    Hi all,
I want to make a DAQ card using pic 18 microcontroller which has a built-in usb protocol. I have the firmware of this
controller which will  make it as a usb device. How can i receive the analog voltages from this DAQ card in Labview? or i mean to say that how i can communicate labview with the Pic 18 microcontroller through usb port? I have also the
mpusbapi.dll file which is for Visual C++. Can i make changes in this dll file to make it compatible with labview?

Which labview version do you have. Up to labview 7.1 it was no USB raw communication options. I have heard it did not work well in 7.1, but from 8.x most of the errors were fixed.
Here is a link it should be useful http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=340676&query.id=365864#M340676
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)
