change the tnsnames.ora you're forms 6i is using. Usually in the net80\admin path of your forms 6i home.

Forms 6i is not connecting with Oracle 11g database?
    How to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
Once you installed the Forms and Reports, you need to configure the paramters like tnsnames.ora in you path.
There will be one folder in the Installation path of Forms and Reports search for tnsnames.ora file..and you need to Updated the file as per the which ORACLE Server you are connecting and then try.. it..
Default path for forms will be "ORACLE_HOME/net80/admin".. search for tnsnames.ora and modify it..

I can not connect Oracle forms 6 with database 10g

I can connect to sql plus but i cannot connect my forms 6 with database 10g. getting the following error:
ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name=================================
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
This error means one thing, and one thing only. The client could not find the specified entry in the tnsnames.ora file being used.
As a follow-on to that statement, remember that when you use a dblink, the database in which the link is defined is acting as a client to the database that is the target of the link. So in this case, the tnsnames.ora file on the host of your source should have an entry for your target db, as defined in the db_link.
And for the umpteenth time ... this error has <b><i><u>NOTHING</u></i></b> to do with the status of a listener. The connection request never got far enough to reach a listener. If anyone tells you to check a listener in response to ora-12154, they are not paying attention, or do not understand how TNS works. This error is the equivalent of not being able to place a telephone call because you don't know the number of the party you want to reach. You wouldn't debug that situation by going to the other guy's house and testing his telephone, or by going to the phone company and testing the switchboard. And you don't debug a ORA-12154 by checking the listener. If I had a top ten list of "Incredibly Simple Concepts (tm)" that should be burned into the brain of everyone who claims to be an Oracle DBA, it would include "ORA-12154 Has Nothing To Do With The Listener".
    =================================
    A couple of important points.
First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
)Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    What can go wrong?
First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"

  • Can Not Connect with Oracle.

OK I can connect and add a new data source when I am in the Creator IDE. When I run the application in gives me the error below. What I have found is the system does not create the JDBC resource and the JDBC Connection pool on the Application Server. Is there a way I need to push this down? I have not had to do this whenm I made test apps in PointBase, do I need to do it when I am using Oracle connection.

No. You need not have to do this. Creator should automatically do this for you.
BTW, are you using the DataDirect JDBC jar files that comes bundle with Creator?
The following exception tells me, this could be becuase the JDBC driver your using is not JDBC 3.0 compliant. The error occurs when a "PreparedStatement" is created and the driver is returning null at that point.

  • How to connect Forms 6i & Reports 6i with oracle 10g R2?

    Hey everybody,
I need your help in connecting both Forms 6i & Reports 6i with Oracle 10g Release 2 db, MS Access(2003, 2007) and SQL database(Microsoft Visual Studio 2008). I am a newbie. I have installed all of them on my HP notebook, with Windows 7 Ultimate(32 bit OS) installed. I want to generate forms & reports by accessing data from above mentioned databases. Please provide me with the configuration steps.
    Thanks in advance...!

    Welcome to the forum ;-)
Please be sure to review the following:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/entry/10_commandments_for_the_otn_fo
First, I think it would be a good idea if we can understand why you have chosen to use a nearly new operating system yet install Oracle products that are 10 years old (i.e. Forms/Reports 6i) on it. In general, this is not a good idea. Although running such an old version on Win7 can be made to work, the possibility of having problems is likely. If you are infact new to the product, using a configuration where you are likely to have problems may not be a good starting place. Also, you should be aware that Forms/Reports 6i was desupported several years ago. Documentation and other information is gradually being replaced by newer information, so resources for this old version are going away. The latest version of Forms/Reports is part of Fusion Middleware 11R2 (version 11.1.2.0) and requires WebLogic Server 10.3.5 (or 10.3.6) in order to be installed.
Second, if you decide to stick with F/R 6i, are you planning to run the applications you create in a browser or as a client/server application? This information is important because how you connect to a database will slightly differ depending on which option you choose. Also, if you want to connect to non-Oracle data sources you can use ODBC for client/server or Oracle Transparent Gateway. However, if you plan to deploy the applications using a browser, Gateway is your only option for connecting to non-Oracle datasources. As for connecting to MS Access, I believe ODBC is your only option, so web deployment may not be an option.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/gateways.102/b14270/ch1.htm
There are many other references available. Try a Google search.
As for connecting to an Oracle database, this is generally easy. For the Builder(s) and client/server runtime to connect, add the db information to the tnsnames.ora found in the Oracle Home (installation directory) \network\admin. If you are unfamiliar with what goes in the file you can copy the entries created for your database. The db will have a similar file found in a similar place in its installation directory (Oracle Home). For example, you might find something like this:
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = YOURSERVER.COM)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
)Simply copy this information to the end of your tnsnames.ora found where Forms/Reports is installed then restart any running Forms or Builders.

  • The network adapter could not establish the connection with Oracle

I installed Oracle in my laptop (windows 2008), and install Hyperion 11.1.2, when I configure Hyperion, it pops up with "the network adapter could not establish the connection with Oracle"?

    Hi,
This usually means that the connection details you have put in for Oracle are incorrect or Oracle can not be contacted.
Double check your configuration connection details and make sure you can access Oracle using them details.
    Cheers

    1. Is the connection url correct?
    "jdbc:oracle:thin:@PLANET:1521:ORCL" is fine.
    2. Is the TNS listener started?
    c:\oracle\product\ora10\bin> lsnrctl status
    3. Is a firewall between client and database server?
Connection url with firewall would be different.

  • Cannot establish connection with Oracle database

    Hello
This is the first time I use BOE server with Crystal Report to execute some tests, and one issue is blocking me now, and I am not even sure if this is the right Forum where I should post it.
I installed BOE server XI 3.1 SP4 on Linux machine (new installation), and then I uploaded some existing Crystal Report templates that are working fine on another BOE server. Those CR templates have to establish a connection with a remote Oracle database to get the data, and we pass all credentials for this purpose.
The first time I run my first test I received this error that I could not find anywhere on the web :
    ErrorLog 2011  8 10  7:05:52.505 14215 356 (Administrator:82) (../reporthandler.cpp:12462): CReportHandler::buildReportViewerError: CSResultExceFailed to open the connection." FileName:"../reporthandler.cpp" LineNum:12458 ErrorCode:756 ErrorMsg:"Failed to open the connection.
    {FBAD55EE-BEAF-11E0-BC1C-005056813A72}.rpt" DetailedErrorMsg:""
I believe that the CR was not able to establish the connection with Oracle, so I install Oracle Client on the same machine (test remote connection ==> pass), I set the ORACLE_HOME variable, and I edit the file <installation_home>/ bobje/java/CRConfig.xml to add the path to ojdbc14.jar, and finnaly restart the tomcat server. However I am still getting the same error message.
Is there any hint that can help me troubleshooting this issue?
    Thank you

do the reports use native oracle connectivity or JDBC ?
what version of Oracle client did you install ?
    was it 32bit or 64bit client ?
what your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable set to ?
what does it say in the CMC when you look at CR report's DB properties ?

  • Intermittent not connected to Oracle error

    Hi ,
I keep getting not connected to oracle error for one of our client' server. The application is an Windows service and the client OS is Windows 2003 Server with Oracle Client version 9.2.0.7
I haven't see this error for any other client. I have got the following exception being reported from oracle.
Any ideas? I initially thought it was the service, but debugging it in Visual Studio has not shown any exception, MS Exception or buffer overruns.
    Regards
    Viresh

i think you will need to check your tnsnames.ora file on your client machine. make sure the ip is same as that of one at the server.
also check the listener.ora has the correct ip (this should be same as the server machine run ipconfig/all) .
try to restart the listener on the server.
    from command prompt
    --lsnrctl
    --status
    --start

  • Exmpl of Servlet connect with ORacle

    Hi folks,
Can anyone send me example of Java Servlet connectivity with Oracle.
i m not able to connect servlet with oracle.
u guys can reply me on [email protected]
    thanks
    dal hit

    No.
The code for connecting to Oracle from a Servlet is no different from connecting to Oracle from any other Java application. So tell you what, you show us what you've tried and the error message(s) and we'll help you debug it.
99.999% of the time it's a failure to put the driver Jar file into the classpath, the specifics of which vary from application server to application server. Which one are you using?
u guys can reply me on [email protected]
We can, but we won't. This is not your personal bugfixing service. Pay if you want that kind of help. If you want it for free, do it through the forums or go away.
Probably you'll never read this response, but that's your problem not mine.

  • Could not connect to Oracle database. (HY000): BI Answers Problem

    Hi,
I am using OBIEE 11g and 11g admin client tool is installed in my machine. I created one rpd and I deploy that rpd in the server through Enterprise manager fusion middleware control. But when try to run the analysis from BI answers it throws and error like
"TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified at OCI call OCIServerAttach. [nQSError: 17014] Could not connect to Oracle database. (HY000)".
In the rpd I use OCI default (10g/11g) and cheked that connection is successful and also when I click on view data option in the physical layer I am able to see the data. I cheked with DBAs and correct TNS entries are also there in the server. Could not understand where is the problem.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Titas

    Try like this
    Call Interface: Default (OCI 10g/11g)
    Data source Name->localhost:1521/XE
BTW: Whats the client bit version 32/64 bit, if you have 64bit and above is not working try with Oracle client 32bit.
    Pls mark correct/helpful if helps
