Difference between APO and SCM
Hello All,
I am new to SAP...
Can somebody tell me the difference between SAP APO and SAP SCM.....
Regards,
Mary
Hi,
SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) is the planning component of mySAP SCM, the supply chain management solution provided by SAP.
SAP APO is used to make strategic, tactical and operational decisions and supports you in performing the following planning activities:
Demand Planning (DP)
Supply Network Planning (SNP)
Production Planning (PP)
Detailed Scheduling (DS)
Deployment
Transport Load Builder (TLB)
Transport Planning and Vehicle Scheduling (TP/VS)
Global Available-to-Promise (gATP)
SAP's endeavor into the advanced planning solution market was with the name SAP APO. There are other APS solutions in the market from Oracle, Manugistics, i2 and a whole host of other companies providing specialized planning solutions
Over the years SAP has brought the SAP APO solution under a wider umbrella called SAP SCM. Since version 4.0 of APO it has been called SAP SCM. So in the release strategy of SAP you will find SAP APO 3.1 followed by SAP SCM 4.0
SAP SCM is a more complete solution that covers planning, networking, coordinating and execution. In addition to SAP APO, which is still the core of SAP SCM, there are other applications such as SNC (Supplier Network Collaboration - erstwhile ICH), SCEM (Event Management), EWM (Extended Warehouse Management) and SPP (Service Parts Planning)

Differences between APO and R3 sysytem.
Hi everybody,
Can anyone list out the differences between the APO system and the R3 system.A detailed explanation will be helpful.Hi,
APO
APO is the supply chain tool from SAP.
BW is the data layer for APO.
SAP APO is for Demand Planning and is a component of mySAP SCM. It enables dynamic supply chain management and which in turn includes applications for detailed planning, optimization and scheduling, allowing the supply chain to be accurately and globally monitored even beyond enterprise boundaries.
SAP BI is a reporting tool in SAP. It provides a complete view of the company. The solution is part of SAP NetWeaver and provides the tools needed to make the right decisions, optimize processes, and measure strategic success: data from all enterprise sources are merged effectively and can be comprehensively analyzed, business-critical factors can be monitored using external and internal benchmarks, the most important KPIs can be passed on to all the relevant forces in a company in real time, strategies can be rapidly adapted to changed market conditions, and the results of analyses can be graphically represented in a wide variety of formats, such as grids, graphs, and maps
Check this:
What is APO and how it is related to BW
SAP Advanced Planner and Optimizer is a component of the mySAP Supply Chain Management solution that you use for planning and optimizing supply chain processes at a strategic, tactical, and operational planning level.
With APO - Simultaneous Material & Capacity Planning is possible, as against R/3 PP
APO Planning is capable of taking all the constraints into consideration with Planning for Capacities/Scheduling
APO Resource (workcenter in R/3) does a Capacity availability check before scheduling an activity, if capacity is not available, it finds the immediate next available slot & schedules the activity there. This is not possible with R/3

SNP planned order availability date difference between APO and ECC
Hi,
I have observed that SNP Planned order availability date is not matching between APO and ECC. Details are as follows.
I ran SNP Optimizer with bucket offset of 0.5. After publishing the optimizer created planned orders to ECC, only start date is matching.
Example:
I am using PDS as a source of supply.
Fixed production activity in SNP PDS is 1 day.
GR processing time: 3 day
After running optimizer planned order is created with dates explained below.
Start date/time: 09.05.2011 00:00:00
End date/time: 12.05.2011 23:59:59
Availability date: 16.05.2011 00:00:00
Because of bucket offset defined as 0.5 optimizer planned order availability is start of next monday.
After publishing this planned order to ECC dates on the planned order is as follows.
Start date: 09.05.2011
End date: 09.05.2011
Availability date: 12.05.2011
I have not maintained any scheduling margin key in ECC. Also if I dont define the GR processing time, planned dates between APO and ECC always match. Can anyone explain the impact of GR time on the availability date.
Regards,
VenkatHi Venkadesh,
What's "state stamp"? Do you mean different time zone?
note : 645597 mentioned by Nandha is very helpful:
In standard, CCR will use duedate - "the available date of the output product".
Nandha's words "In SAP APO, if the receipt date of the primary product deviates from the
end date of the last activity of the order, the receipt date
always identifies this as inconsistent. You cannot rectify
inconsistencies of this type by using CCR."
I guess in your PDS or PPM, the output product is not assigned to the End of the last activity. Someone changed it?
Please CIF the PDS or PPM again.
If you really want to apply a note, please use note 815509 as you're using planned order,
and system will use order end date in CCR instead.
GR time is always considered. BR/Tiemin -
Difference between zero and blank values
Is there a way for the system to determine the difference between zero and blank values. One can have a zero allowed for the 0 value to actualy be there in the KF but is there a way that a macro can be written by which we can use the differentiation between the zero ( a value) and blank (no value) in the KF
I have tried to look for an explanation on the service.sap.com and sdn but was not able to find anything.
Thanks in advanceThanks for your reply. You mentioned something about the "fixing" setting that could make the "0" displayed in the planning book. Could you elaborate?
Also, in the post from user "APO APO" on 5/8, the author seemed to indicate they could see the "0" in the planning book, as quoted below:
"I have already made the zero allowed arrangement for that in the planning area and can see the 0 values in the planning book but I am not being able to make the macro get the results."
I just want to find out if there is any way the user can visually distinguish b/w the "0" and blank values. If not, it'll be very confusing to the users. I understand the macros can distinguish b/w them.
Thanks in advance. -

Difference between SRM and SNC
Hi all,
i frequently get this question from many of my friends who work on SRM, as what is the difference between SRM and SNC.Because the supplier collaboration part of SNC resemles with few functionalities of SRM.
What kind of industries go for SRM?
What kind of industries go for SNC?
Regards,
NandanHi Nandan
SRM and SNC have few functionalities common.
SUS and Plan driven procurement. Like SNC Purchase Order Collaboration, these are direct procurement(Supplier known).
Where SRM has other business process like Self Service Procurement, where in they can create quotations and then compare and select the best supplier(In direct Procurement)
In SNC we do not support Service Orders, We only support Quantity Orders. Where SRM can support both.
They have other Business process(SAP SRM Supplier Collaboration), where in the solutions and backend systems like SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), SAP Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Collaboration Folders (cFolders), and SAP Supply Chain Management (SCM), to provide collaborative planning, sourcing, procurement.
Where SNC plays a material monitor here communicating between OEM & Supplier Org
SRM support both quantity procurement and service procurement directly and indirectly.
Where in SNC supports direct quantity procurement.
It is the business need, upon which they select SNC or SRM.

Difference between PDS and PPM and which one should be used for SNP /ppds?
Hi Gurus,
Just wanted to know what are the difference between PDS and PPM ?
1. For what industrial products we use PDS and PPM in SNP and PPDS?
2. which one can be refered to clients?
Please let me know it will be really great if anyone let me know the answers
Thanks & Regards,
RajHi Rajkumar,
I have given below the detailed comparative account of PDS Vs PPM. Please copy and put it in an excel sheet in different columns and then read which is easy to understand.
PDS
1. Production Data Structure (PDS) in APO 3.1 & Run Time Object (RTO) in 4.0 and above versions
2. Master Data Object
3. Useful for scenarios where the compoenent has got different validity periods
4. Used as Master data Basis for Planning in SAP-APO
5. Contains active Master data from iPPE (Integrated Product and Process Engineering) generated from a production version
6. PPDS PDS & SNP PDS can be used as master data for planning
7. Change Management, variant configuration & Phantom assemplies are supported in PDS
8. Sub-contracting in SNP is fully integrated with R/3 is supported in PDS
9. Direct transfer of SNP PDS from R/3 is possible
10.Rapid Planning Matrix can be generated
11. Not possible to maintain PDS directly in APO and can be used only in combination with R/3
12. The transfer of data changes is simpler
13. Not possible to create alternate SNP-PDS in std system for different mode combinations
14. PDS can be automatically generated from two sources ie R/3 and iPPE
PPM:-
1. Production Process Model
2. Master Data Object
3. Cannot be used for scenarios where the component has got different validity period
4. Used as Master data Basis for Planning in SAP-APO
5. Contains active Master data generated from the combination of routing (BoM & receipe) and production versions
6. PPDS PPM & SNP PPM's can be used as master data for planning
7. Not supported by PPM
8. Not supported by PPM
9. Not possible here. SNP PPMs will be generated via PPDS PPMs
10. Not possible
11. PPMs can be directly created in APO and can be modified without R/3 also.
12. Little Complex when compared to PDS
13. Alternate SNP-PPMs can be easily created
14. PPM can be generated automatically generated only from R/3
PDS is used in industries wherein there are multiple components or assemblies having diffeent production versions whose validity periods are different. PPM is being used typically in process industries, chemical industries. PPM is very simple in its usage and very flexible in operations in terms of modifications at APO level and can be referred to client depending on the business requirement

Difference between PPM and PDS, PPDS and SNP
Hello Gurus,
I'am a beginer to APO so could you please let me know about the difference between PPM and PDS? Also the difference between SNP and PPDS/
giriProduction Version in ECC can be transferred to APO as:
PPM - Product Process Model or,
PDS - Product Data Structure
These form the basis master data for Planning in APO
SNP - Supply Network Planning & PPDS - Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling are two Modules in APO for planning purpose. -
What is exact difference between PPM and PDS

Difference between C_TSCM44_65 and C_TSCM44_05 certificate
Hi,
Can you please let me know what is the main difference between C_TSCM44_65 and C_TSCM44_05 certificates. I understand one is for SCM 5.0(DP/SNP/PPDS) and another is for SCM 7.1(PP,SNP,PPDS,GATP) with the addition of GATP. Is there any other major difference.
In short ,if one were to do a certification, which one would you suggest.
Regards,
ShankarHello ShaikhMurad,
Actually, From my point of view;
C_TPLM30_65 : The newest SAP Certification at EAM is designed for entry- level consultants that's why
(1) All the certification about how to describe?Maintain?Customize?
(2) Don't consider some of important integration points such as: Processing External Services, all cost topics (Cost Estimation, Order Settlement, Planned/Actual Cost Determination, Plant Maintenance in the Organizational Structures of Accounting) and Capacity Planning unlike C_TPLM30_05
The advantage of this certification "C_TPLM30_65", It covers most of enhancements points related to PLM from EhP 1 : EhP 5 unlike C_TPLM30_05 which covers ONLY ECC 6.0
Hope this note helps.

What is the difference between WM and EWM.
hello experts,
what is the major differences between WM and EWM?
if we want go for EWM, do we need seperate license is required or will it be available in the Business Suite?
will EWM alone can be installed and implemented ?
thanks in advance.EWM is part of the SCM core application, which is included in the SAP business suite. EWM is extended warehouse management, and in addition to all the standard WM functionality it introduces warehouse tasks, warehouse orders, the ability to assign equipment to users and track its movement through the warehouse. For a full list of features and functionality of EWM you can check out:

Difference between Null and null?
What is the difference between null and NULL?
When is each used?
Thanks,veryConfused wrote:
There is a null in java, but no NULL. null means no value. However, when assigning value, the following is different:Although the empty String has no special role. Null means, the referential type is not assigned (doesn't refer) to a specific object. The empty String is just another object though, so seeing it or pointing it out as something special when it actually isn't at all (no more special than new Integer(0) or new Object[0]) just adds to the confusion. -
Difference between GUI_UPLOAD and WS_UPLOAD
Hi,
Please make me clear about the difference between GUI_UPLOAD and WS_UPLOAD. In which cases we need to use these modules...??
Thanks,
SatishI would suggest to always use the GUI_UPLOAD. I say this because this is the function module which is used in the GUI_UPLOAD method of the class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES. Really, you should probably use the class/method instead of the function module.
data: filename type string.
filename = p_file.
call method cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_upload
exporting
filename = filename
filetype = 'ASC'
changing
data_tab = iflatf
exceptions
file_open_error = 1
file_read_error = 2
no_batch = 3
gui_refuse_filetransfer = 4
no_authority = 6
unknown_error = 7
bad_data_format = 8
unknown_dp_error = 12
access_denied = 13
others = 17.

Difference between char and varchar, also the difference between varchar2
Hi,
Can anyone explain me the difference between char and varchar, and also the difference between varchar and varchar2...Varchar2 is variable width character data type, so if you define column with width 20 and insert only one character to tis column only, one character will be stored in database. Char is not variable width so when you define column with width 20 and insert one character to this column it will be right padded with 19 spaces to desired length, so you will store 20 characters in the dattabase (follow the example 1). Varchar data type from Oracle 9i is automaticlly promoted to varchar2 (follow example 2)
Example 1:
SQL> create table tchar(text1 char(10), text2 varchar2(10))
2 /
Table created.
SQL> insert into tchar values('krystian','krystian')
2 /
1 row created.
SQL> select text1, length(text1), text2, length(text2)
2 from tchar
3 /
TEXT1 LENGTH(TEXT1) TEXT2 LENGTH(TEXT2)
krystian 10 krystian 8
Example 2:
create table tvarchar(text varchar(10))
SQL> select table_name,column_name,data_type
2 from user_tab_columns
3 where table_name = 'TVARCHAR'
4 /
TABLE_NAME COLUMN_NAME DATA_TYPE
TVARCHAR TEXT VARCHAR2
