Different base for the display

Sitting in a corner cubicle, it is easy for me to glance across the floor at my staff. But the Thunderbolt Cinema Display I've just ordered I just realised is going to hinder my ability to do that. In fact, it not only obstructs my view but also makes me less visible. Not a good thing. So I'm wondering, is there a replacement 'base' that will bring the display down?
Not the 'VESA wall mounts' ... but an actual replacement base.

Apple doesn't make a different base so you will need to look for a 3rd party option.
I have a very similar situation where I need to see over the Cinema Display (to watch the television across the room) but the height with the supplied base was too high.  After looking all over for a desk mounted arm that could support the weight of the display (~23 pounds) I went with the Ergotron Mx Desk Mount arm (Amazon.com for $114 or AppleStore from $169).  Many of the other arms, including Ergotron's lineup, have more joints or features but the Mx is one of the only models that could support the weight without costing twice as much.  Ergotron also has the Lx model that says it supports up to 20 pounds that you might like instead of the Mx.  The 23.5 pounds of the display includes the weight of the base so without it, you are very close to the 20 pound limit of the Lx arm.
(Note: as with most of the display mounts, it is a VESA standard connection plate so you will also need the Apple VESA mount adapter to connect it to your display).
With that connected, I can lower the display all the way down to the desk (although I keep it about 1/2 inch up for the speakers and for airflow intake) and I can just see over the screen.  A movable arm also has the benefit of when I don't need to see across the room, I adjust it up higher for a more comfortable viewing position. (Putting the top menu bar at eye-level is the recommended height)
Also, if I need to show something to someone sitting a way from me, I don't have to ask them to come over but can just lift and turn the screen around to show them.  Normally this would not be very easy to do with a 27" and 23 pound display but the Ergotron arm makes this effortless.
I do this often during parties with the music playing and an iTunes visualizer or cover art show is on the display.  I get a lot of "Oh, now THAT is cool!  Honey, can I get one of these?" responses when I do it. 
and if you go with an adjustable arm mount like this one, be aware that the default tension will not hold the display up so don't let it drop on your desk.  You will most likely need to loosen the tension just to attach it but then tighten it until it can hold the display up in a floating position.
Here is a video on YouTube I just found in another thread showing someone disconnecting the Apple base and connecting a VESA adapter and Ergotron Lx model arm to a 24" display but the procedure is exactly the same for the 27".  Although the instructions in the VESA adapter package is very detailed, a video with someone explaining it always helps too.

Just a side note, the only con I have with the Mx is that I can't lower it any more.  I would like to tilt it back at more of an angle and lower it even futher so I can see over it better to see stuff lower on the other side.  The Mx arm tilts back enough but then doesn't lower that far down.  It is like it was made with the 27" display in mind as it lowers just down to the desk.  Some day I'll either try the Lx and see if it can adjust to that level or perhaps buy a new flat panel television and mount it on the wall high enough so that I don't need to adjust my cinema display.  Hrm.....  You know, I think I'll have to go TV shopping soon .

  • Problem when saving the Data basis for the Consolidation

    I am having 2 problems.
    1) When i try to execute the UCWB transaction . It gives an information message
    " Data basis DB needs to be generated (after upgrade) . I am following the procedure given in that "<b>Run maintenance of data basis DB in display mode. Go to the "Data Streams" tab page. Choose the "Generate" button.
    If changes to Customizing settings are permitted in the current system or client, as an alternative you can maintain the data basis in change mode and save. In the case of systems supplied with Customizing transports, as an alternative you can generate the data basis in the source system and then transport it again.</b>
    Even after doing that procedure when i again execute the UCWB. it give me the same message.
    2) when is try to save data basis for the consolidation . it give me this error message.
    "Field 0HC_ATCCODE: This compound differs from that of basic field 0HC_MEDCTG"
    I have checked the referenced Info objects . Checked the compound info objects. Activated them again. They dont differ in any way. but still i get this problem.
    Please help me out. If someone has come across this error and solved. Please help me.

    I constantly receive the message like your #2 saying that it was a critical change in X infoobject. It's just a warning and I found several OSS notes saying that this message is not correct. Just ignore it.
    In case of your Q #1. The data basis might be generated in two ways: by pressing Save icon and by clicking the Generate icon (the system refers just to this very option) and then - Save. The last way is used in Productive environment. Try it.

    Excise Duty values are flowing as per the excise invoice but system make base value as 0 , I have maintained Assesable value in J1ID also. We are using TAXINN.

    The best way to slolve this problem, Now is to maintain Assable value in Material Master For reciving Plant.
    Hear you can maintain all the chapter id, register A or C, etc
    and then try doing GR,
    The other way and the permanent solution is
    VPRS or equivalent
    Condition class B Prices
    Calculat.type C Quantity
    Condit.category  H
    Cond.control H Condition value fixed
    Condit.origin A Automatic pricing
    In this Condition category is most important and by this only system copies the base amount for excise duty calculation in MIGO or J1IEX.

  • How do I place an image and insert a different photo for the "mouse down" state?

    I have placed an image within an accordian widget and when I select the "mouse down" area in the states dialog box, i click "fill" in the toolbar and insert the photo i want to display when the image is clicked but this image is "covered up" by the originally placed image and is not seen in my states dialog box.
    I have done this before when i made rectangles and placed images in rectangles. But i soon realized that you cannot add alternative text to images in rectangles for some frustrating reason.
    How do I place and image and have a different image for the mouse down state?

    This effect can only be achieved when you use the images as a Rectangle Fill. And as you mentioned it above, you cannot add alternative text to images because it is added as a fill and not as a image.

    Can we get a output in different languages for the same configuration done in NACE. or it is language specific.
    They have symbols which have values both in german and english. But when we run the transaction we are getting the output only in german language.We want the out put in english

    A Smartform can be maintained in many languages other than the language that it is created. Translations for the texts have to be maintained for this purpose.
    To maintain the translations:
    Go to transaction SE63 in R/3.
    Go to menu Translation->R/3 Enterprise->Other Long Texts
    Select the object type in the pop up. Smartform(SSF) object type is found under Forms and Styles(FS).
    Enter the name of the Smart form and choose the source and target language. This would open a screen with the Smartform code in Source language on the top and an editor with the same code in the bottom.
    Find the text for which you need to maintain the translation and insert the translation in that place. As usual after required texts are maintained Save and Activate.
    To see the translated Smartform create an output type and assign the smartform and the driver program to this output type. In the transaction that sends output to this smartform, select the output type and select the language in which the smartform has to be displayed (translations have to be maintained in this lanuage).This will give the smartform in the required language.

  • Different authorizations on different cubes for the same characteristic

    Hello,
    Is it possible to implement different authorizations on different groups for the cubes characteristic?
    For example a user should be authorized to see just the data of company code 101 on Cube A but he should see the data of all company codes on Cube B (Cube B also contains the company code. ":"-Authorization is not an option)?
    In transaction RSECADMIN it is possible to insert the "special characteristics" Acitivty, InfoProvider and Validity into an authorization. But standard setting for InfoProvider is * and I get an error message if I want to modify for just 1 Cube because the characteristic "InfoProvider" (SAP Content) isn't marked as authorization relevant.
    Can you please answer:
    1) If it is possible to implement different authorizations on different cubes for the same characteristic?
    2) What is the function of the special charactristics if I can't maintain the values?

    Hi there,
    Yes it is possible.
    The new authorization concept created union also based on InfoProvider Characteristic.
    You have to change in rsd1 transaction the characteristics 0TCAACTVT, 0TCAKYFNM, 0TCAIPROV and 0TCAVALID to be authorization relevant.
    So you can do this:
    Create two authorizations in rsecadmin like this:
    Aut_1:
    0comp_code: 101
    0TCAACTVT: 03 (activity of display)
    0TCAKYFNM: * (all key figures)
    0TCAIPROV: Cube A
    0TCAVALID: * (authorization valid for ever)
    Aut_2:
    0comp_code: *
    0TCAACTVT: 03 (activity of display)
    0TCAKYFNM: * (all key figures)
    0TCAIPROV: Cube B
    0TCAVALID: * (authorization valid for ever)
    Now in rsecadmin give both authorizations aut_1 and aut_2 for the user.
    If the user opens a query built on cube a he will be having authorizations only for company code 101. If the user opens a query for cube B he will be having authorizations for all the company codes.

  • Error opening data base for the library for Aperture

    Hello,
    I have been using Aperture all day and for some reason am now getting this error message when trying to open it again.
    Te was an error opening the data base for the library "users/*******/pictures/aperture3triallibrary.aplibrary
    Has this happened for anyone else?

    When I hold down ⌘⌥ firmly, at the same time, and with these keys held down double click the Aperture library that I want to repair, I get this panel:
    Then, when I select "Repair"  Aperture will show a progress bar and the Dock icon will stay highlighted.
    When it is finished, the Aperture window will open.
    When I select repair, it seems as though it doesn't run. I don't get a dialog box to confirm it's happening and on the dock the little light under the Aperture icon isn't lit, which seems it is'nt open or running.
    After you select "Repair", does the panel close and then nothing? Or does the panel not react?
    I still don't see fully, what is going on on your mac.
    But it is a good sign, that you can create a new library. That suggests, that Aperture is running correctly on your mac, and "only" your old library has a problem. Try to test the new library - import a few images and try to adjust them.
    Once you are convinced, that the new library is working well, you have three options.
    Try "Rebuild" instead of "Repair".
    Or try to import your old library into the new library (Aperture's main menu bar > File >Import > Library) - that is another approach to rebuilsd the library.
    Or restore from backup. To restore from Time Machine, open a Finder Window showing your Aperture library, and then enter Time Machine. Go back in time to the most recent date that has a working Aperture library and select "Restore". If you have enough space on your disk, restore to a different folder and don't overwrite your current library.

  • Different screensaver for each display?

    I'm pretty sure OS X out of the box doesn't do this, but has anyone found a way to designate a different screensaver for each display, or more specifically, only have the screensaver happen on one display, while the second display goes to sleep?

    I guess that's not possible. From Web Dynpro side, dropdown is only one UI element. So  different tooltip cannot be assigned.
    However, You can find the which dropdown item is selected and assign the tooltip at runtime accordingly.
    In wdDoModifyView method, you can assign the tooltip text.

  • Outlook-2 different entries for the same person (but not the same email)

    i was asked to switch from outlook 2007 to outlook 2013 as a trial.
    For some reason, I get two different entries for the same person (but not the same email), one which is the name as normal and one where the name has ' around it. In the below example:
    I have 24 emails sent to Ciaran and then a further 14 sent to 'Ciaran'
    The email address for both is exactly the same and it does not seem to matter if I create a new email or reply to an incoming one.
    I switched back to Outlook 2007 and the issue is still the same.
    any suggestions?

    I would say that there is no way to prevent Outlook from doing it, it dependents on how the sender formatted the sending address, not the recipient who replies.
    To fix this:
    Open the message and double click the address and view source
    Just replace the generated Display As with the Display As you want

  • CBO generating different plans for the same data in similar Environments

    Hi All
    I have been trying to compare an SQL from 2 different but similar environments build of the same hardware specs .The issue I am facing is environment A, the query executes in less than 2 minutes with plan mostly showing full table scans and hash join whereas in environment B(problematic), it times out after 2 hours with an error of unable to extend table space . The statistics are up to date in both environments for both tables and indexes . System parameters are exactly similar(default oracle for except for multiblock_read_count ).
    Both Environment have same db parameter for db_file_multiblock_read_count(16), optimizer(refer below),hash_area_size (131072),pga_aggregate_target(1G),db_block_size(8192) etc . SREADTIM, MREADTIM, CPUSPEED, MBRC are all null in aux_stats in both environment because workload was never collected i believe.
    Attached is details about the SQL with table stats, SQL and index stats my main concern is CBO generating different plans for the similar data and statistics and same hardware and software specs. Is there any thing else I should consider .I generally see environment B being very slow and always plans tend to nested loops and index scan whereas what we really need is a sensible FTS in many cases. One of the very surprising thing is METER_CONFIG_HEADER below which has just 80 blocks of data is being asked for index scan.

  • Using different templates for the desktop and phone versions of the same blog

    I have a site which was created in Adobe Muse and is hosted on Business Catalyst.
    I have created both a desktop and a phone versions of the site.
    I  want to know how I can integrate the blogs that I  currently have on the desktop site with the phone version that I just did, using different templates for the desktop and phone versions of the same blog. This is in order to ensure that visitors to the blogs on the website are directed to the templates that render correctly for the devices they are using.
    My current approach has been to create both a desktop and phone versions of the blogs. The problem with this however, is that the dates are different and the comments are separated between the two blog versions!
    I  have also tried enabling mobile templates in BC, but still couldn't find a way to specify the mobile versions of the templates for the same blog?
    To recap my problem, I basically  need a solution where the same blog uses different templates for desktop and mobile (both templates use different navigation headings and menu styles)

    There can be few reason for this, including page contents links or contents used in phone/tablet version.
    Please provide the site url , also try to publish the site as a trial site in Business Catalyst with all layouts which would help to isolate the issue.

    With the AlwaysOn listener you should have a single DNS name to connect to regardless of which cluster node is active. Are you using the listener service? If not, please refer to the link below.

    How do you fix a problem where document pages open that are too big for the display and runs off the end of the monitor? The borders are off the monitor so there is no window edge to grab and adjust.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device. 
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
