  • HDV 1080i50 or 1080i60?

    Hi all!
Confused about media import and sequence settings.
In my Audio/Video Settings (in the Summary tab) I have the Sequence Preset set to HDV 1080i50, yet when the clip is imported, in the browser the Compressor shows HDV 1080i60. The sequence shows the same 1080i60 for the Compressor.
If am capturing HDV 1080i50 from my Canon HV20, should have the same 1080i50 preset for my sequence?
is there a major difference between the 50 and the 60?
    thanks,
    Gabster

Thanks a lot! That makes sense!
    cheers!

    Hi DV,
Sorry you are having issues. FWIW, I also run a Mac and do not have these issues - however, I am still running OS X 10.8.5 on my personal machine.
First of all, we need a lot more info: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

You say you are using "PP 2014," however, that is not precise enough. Which version of Premiere Pro CC 2014 are you using? 8.0.1, 8.1, or 8.2? Choose Premiere Pro > About Premiere Pro and look at the bottom of the dialog box. That will give you a precise version number.

    Here is a list:
Indeed, that's quite a list. My first suggestion is that you check out this article and perform the fixes there, if necessary: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later) Are all the permissions set correctly?
The other issue I see a lot is needlessly updating a project file in the middle of a project. The advice here is to avoid updating a project file to a new version of Premiere Pro as you work on it. Update before a new project is created.
Try a test: update to Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2) and create a brand new project. Does it work better now?
    Thanks,

    Hi Prasanna,
SQL Trace Locate the document in its SAP Library structure
    Use
The SQL Trace function is an on-demand log of selected SQL statements that are issued against the database through the Open SQL Engine. The SQL Trace can be switched on or off dynamically. The log format is database independent. Besides the SQL statement text, each log record contains information about the point in time when the statement was executed, its duration, its input parameters and results (where applicable) as well as context information.
    Features
The SQL Trace is especially useful for:
    ·        Development
SQL Trace can help JDO, enterprise beans, servlet and JSP developers to learn which kind of database accesses their code produces.
    ·        Performance analysis
Typically, performance issues are caused by inefficient database accesses. In this case SQL Trace can be used to show the issued SQL statements and their duration, thus helping to identify inefficient SQL statements.
    Activities
Typically, you should use the SQL Trace when you need to check the behavior of a particular application. This is the following scenario:
           1.      You launch the SQL Trace application.
           2.      You activate the SQL Trace.
           3.      You run the application that you want to trace.
           4.      You deactivate the SQL Trace.
           5.      You set filters optionally.
           6.      You evaluate the trace.
You can also evaluate a trace that already exists.
The SQL Trace also provides functions for file administration.
    Note
SQL Trace is less suitable for detecting general performance issues. Therefore, we do not recommend that you keep it constantly activated, as it consumes additional resources.
Performance Measurements Locate the document in its SAP Library structure
    Runtime Analysis
If you want to monitor the performance of your system, or compare its performance at different times, you can perform a runtime analysis.  You usually start the runtime analysis (after performing certain activities in the system) with transaction SE30.
You use transaction SICF to activate the runtime analysis both for ICF runtime and for applications that run using ICF runtime. You can evaluate the results with transaction SE30.
You can start these functions from the menu in transaction SICF by choosing Edit ® Runtime Analysis, and then measure the performance. Choose Activate and enter the request paths for which you want activate the runtime analysis.
You can set the option User-Dependent to activate the runtime analysis for a specific user or client (that is, all users in a client) You can also implement a measurement variant. To do this, you must enter the variant user (owner of the variant), the variant itself, and the precision.
This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Any active runtime analyses must be deactivated after the requests have been executed. You deactivate the requests in transaction SICF by choosing Edit ® Runtime Analysis ® Deactivate. This deactivates the corresponding paths and users.
You can evaluate the recorded runtime measurements in transaction SE30. The measurement results are saved under the user defined in the settings in transaction SICF. If you select the option User-Dependent, you find the entries in transaction SE30, under the user with which you executed the requests. If the option User-Dependent is not active, the entries are saved under the user SAPSYS. You can find the measurement entries for specific users in transaction SE30 under Performance File ® Other File… Enter the relevant user name.
In the following section, you can read about Transporting ICF Services.

  • FCP & FCE Resolution

    Hello
I want to know what differences in quality(resolution) between FCP and FCE
    Thank You
    Adolfo

FCE supports DV, HDV and AVCHD fixed resolution video only.
DV can be captured as DV-NTSC/29.97fps or DV-PAL/25fps
HDV and AVCHD are transcoded to Apple Intermediate Codec during capture/ingest.
HDV and AVCHD are supported at 720p30, 1080i50 and 1080i60.
Using DV or Apple Intermediate Codec, you are unlikely to see any qualitative differences between FCE and FCP.
FCP, however, supports many more codecs/frame rates/resolutions.

  • Motion project presets have the wrong framerate

One of our computers has an issue with project presets in Motion. When you start a new Motion project, you have the option of picking from a list of presets for your project. Of these, the last 17 on the list have the incorrect framerate: XDCam HD, EX and HD422, as well as Broadcast HD 1080i50 and 1080i60.
    For example: XDCam HD422 1080p24 has a framerate of 29.97, 1080p25 is 23.98 and 1080p30 is 25.
Has anyone else seen this before?

    EDIT:
We just tried taking a good preset file from one computer and moving it to the other computer with the bad settings. Opened Motion, the preset was still incorrect. We then opened the file in TextEdit, and it showed the correct framerate.
So something else must be reading the framerate incorrectly.

  • How to create custom Easy Setups in Final Cut Express 4

I've been searching the web hours on end trying to find an answer to this question. Basically, here's the deal. I have a whole bunch of clips in 720p HD, at 60 fps with some other custom settings that aren't supported by Apple's default easy setups. I need a way to edit or create an easy setup to fit my needs for editing this type of video.
    Thanks for any help,
    Justin

    JTK-
If you want to create your own easy setup configurations you will need Final Cut Pro (in Final Cut Studio).
FCE is designed to handle DV (NTSC or PAL) and Apple Intermediate Codec. (HDV and AVCHD are transcoded to Apple Intermediate Codec during capture.) Regarding high def video, FCE is designed to work with 720p30, 1080i50 and 1080i60.
Generally it's best to convert nonstandard video to QuickTime using one of the above codecs before importing the video into FCE.

  • Where can I find the 1080i25 codec for Final Cut Express?

I have found that the Sony HDR-HC3E is use the 1080i25 Codec,
Final Cut Express only provide 1080i50 and 1080i60,
So the quality of source after capture is very poor!
Is that FCE has 1080i25 codec?
    Where can I find?

There's no such thing as 1080i25. The i is for interlaced and has either 50 fields or 60 fields (actually 59.97, but that's another story). There is 1080p25, but I don't believe that camera can shoot that.
Where are you looking at the playback of the captured material? QuickTime player set to high quality or somewhere else?

  • Apple Uncompressed 10 Bit 4:2:2 for After FX7

    Hello All
I work in a post product digital facility and we have currently upgraded our department to After Effects 7.
The G5 workstation run on Mac OSX 10.4.8 and have a mixture of Aja Kona and Blackmagic cards.
However we would like to render out Quicktimes to the generic Apple Uncompressed 10 bit which is usually featured in After Effects, but is no longer available as option in either After Effect 6.5 and 7 since we upgraded.
Qucktimes are rendered out from After Effects and then they are layed off to tape via Final Cut Pro.
Please could you tell me where i can download the generic apple uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 ?
Once codecs are imported where are they stalled is it in User - Library - Preference....somewhere?
Also does anybody know how to import a generic Apple Uncompressed 10 bit codec into After Effects7, is this done through interpretation rules.txt * refer to attached jpeg.
Furthermore how can we import codecs into After 6.5 to use?
Here is a link to an article I have recently read on workflow tips and 10 bit renders for After Effects which has been helpful.

AIC is an Apple QuickTime codec and is only available on Apple platforms.  It is an all-iFrame format and is normally used for high def video (HDV and AVCHD).   FCE automatically transcodes HDV and AVCHD video into QuickTime/AIC when you capture/ingest the video from your camcorder.
AIC supports 16:9 aspect ratio, 8-bit 4:2:0 and can handle variable data rates.  Supported frame sizes/rates are 720p30, 1080i50 and 1080i60.  There is a bit more info in this article:  Final Cut Pro 5: About HDV and Apple Intermediate Codec.
You asked this question in the Final Cut Express Forum.  FCE can't use 10-bit 4:2:2 video, nor can it use Apple ProRes.  For 10-bit 4:2:2 suppport you would need ProRes and Final Cut Studio.

  • FCS 5.1: Detecting camcorder issues (Sony HDV HDR-HC3)

Hi I just got FCS 5.1 and it doesn't seem to want to detect my camcorder (Sony HDV HDR-HC3). iMovie detects it just fine, but in FCP I have no control over my camcorder when I go to 'Log and Capture', nor am I able to preview anything. My camera is set up properly I'm sure. Is there something I'm doing wrong? A setting I don't know about? Any help would be appreciated.

Salvador, what settings did you find? I presume you're importing HDV, not DV, otherwise what's the point of an HDV camera... I must be dumb, too, because my FCE HD (current version) doesn't capture from my HDV HDR-HC3. My camcorder is set for VCR = HDV and iLink conversion is off, per the manual. I tried setting up projects for both Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50 and 1080i60, then doing Cmd-8 (capture). First it prompted me for a clip name, then I got a black screen saying it was cuing the tape and the tape automatically started playing. It said press Esc to stop, but when I pressed Esc it said the capture was aborted and there was no clip. I've been capturing and editing standard DV on my older Sony DV Handycam for years, and it worked great with no hassle. This baffles me.
iMovie recognizes the camera, and controls the rewind, etc., but no picture and no import.
I'm using the same FireWire cable I used with my older Handycam. Do I need a special Sony iLink cable?
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

  • Canon HV10 Not Recognized By Final Cut Express HD

my Sony HCR-HC3E also has this problem.
The quality of footage after capture is very poor.
When I use iMovie to capture the footage,
iMovie show that it is using the codec 1080i25.
Final Cut Express HD has not provide this codec,
    only has 1080i50 and 1080i60.
I have ask about this, the feedback is that there is no
    codec that call 1080i25.
    How can I do?

  • You shoot 24p, 25p, 30p but iMove 09 treats it as interlace! Why?

If your HD camcorder can shoot “1080p25” (progressive 25fps) or “1080p30” (progressive 30fps), of course you want to shoot using these frame rates. The Canon HV40 and Canon HF S11 are examples of HD camcorders that can shoot progressive video at 25fps (in PAL regions) or at 30fps (in NTSC regions) in addition to “1080i50” or “1080i60.” They can also shoot 24fps.
When you shoot 1080p24, 1080p25, or 1080p30, in most cases progressive video is recorded as interlace video. Both 1080p24 and 1080p30 are recorded as 1080i60 while 1080p25 is recorded as 1080i50.
When iMovie 09 imports this video, it will treat this progressive video as interlaced HD. Unfortunately, iMovie treats interlaced HD badly. If you Stabilize a clip, employ a PIP or Crop, add a Ken Burns effect to a video clip, or use a Wipe or Pseudo-3D transition (such as Cube)—iMovie on-the-fly converts your 1080-line video to 540p (960x540) video. Therefore, all 1080i clips in your movie will lose up to 35% vertical resolution and up to 40% horizontal resolution. This loss of resolution will occur even if you add only one of these effects.
But, what if iMovie didn't do this?
What if iMovie correctly saw progressive HD as progressive HD -- not interlaced HD? This would allow all scaling FX to be used. Moreover, because you ARE shooting progressive HD, NO scaling artifacts would be introduced!
Would this be a benefit to HDV and AVCHD 1080i shooters?
Absolutely! Especially if all this could accomplished without wasting time and image quality recompressing your video.

The Pana 300 is a great camcorder, but I wish it shot 30p. If you want a Cine look you'll have to shoot 24fps rather than the easier to use 30fps.
    Anyway, about removing pulldown:
    1) You CAN remove 2-3 pulldown. But, it requires a recompresion from AIC to AIC after your clips' AVCHD is converted by iMovie to AIC. This would provide real 1080p24. I call this "TRUE 1080P." But, with a MacBook this might take too long. And, you lose a generation of quality!
    2) A better solution is to get iMovie to treat your video as though it has no pulldown and is progressive. I call this "FALSE 1080P" because once 2-3 pulldown is added during recording, the video has BECOME interlaced. (I'll explain about this in my other thread on dealing with 1080i50 and 1080i60.)
PS: The reason I prefer to shoot 1080p30 is because then the goal is to get iMovie to treat 25p/30p video as though it were progressive. I call this "TRUE 1080P" because it really IS progressive.
We know what it is, but iMovie doesn't. And, how can iM since it is recorded as 1080i50 and 1080i60. It's too bad Canon and Panasonic record 25p/30p as interlaced. The neat thing about TRUE 1080P is that after editing as progressive you can export as 1080i or 720p. And, no matter what FX you use you'll never get scaling artifacts!

  • Canon AVCHD 25fps & 30fps -- ideal for iMovie 09

I, and many others, have repeatedly posted that when you shoot 25p or 30p with a Canon AVCHD camcorder, iM 09 sees that the recording was made using 50i or 60i. This isn't true.
In researching a Revised Edition -- I discovered that while this behavior is true when you shoot HDV at 25p or 30p -- thankfully it is NOT true of shooting AVCHD.
When you shoot AVCHD, iM 09 knows you have shot 25p or 30p verses 50i or 60i. Therefore, when you shoot 1080p you can use all FX without iM converting your clips to 540p.
For those that are going to make 1080-line HD movies for a Western Digital TV (WDTV) or burn a red-laser DV (to be played on a Blu-ray player) this makes the Canon camcorders ideal.
Unfortunately, iM will not import 1080p24 from a Canon or Panasonic camcorders.
PS: there ARE solutions for working with 1080p24 as well ss 1080i50 and 1080i60 -- including 24fps carried as 1080i60. But, that's a whole other set of topics.

Right now Im shooting 1080 60i and waiting for your software.
I got Steves imakeFullhd software and it makes a big difference when i shoot 1080i60. Before, i was losing way to much resolution when i added an FX like PIP to my movies. Now I get every pixel in my clips in my final movie!
I don't use bluray because i love mu western digital TV which shouws my Fullhd movies.
PS: I did not buy SL because too afraid of problems with imovie and it doesn't work with iMakeFullHd -- at least not yet.
