Disable JRE download

I have a customer that does not want to allow the user to download a JRE (even if the JRE is not on their machine). They just want to launch of our application to fail. Anyway to tell JWS (via properties or via the JNLP file) not to try to autodownload and install a JRE?
Thanks!
Rick

Configuration has a property in advanced tab in1.6 to disallow jre downloads:
also jnlp file could specify j2se tag twice. first with a dummy href:
<j2se version ="1.4.2*" href-"http://mycorp.com/no jre downloads allowed"/>
<j2se version="1.4.2*" href="http://java.sun.com/products/ah\utodl/j2se"/>
this way, if suns version 1.4.2 was there program would run, else it would try to download the first one from -"http://mycorp.com/no jre downloads allowed" and get an error.
/Andy
PS - in 1.6 there is a control panel option for autodownload, user can slecet to always download, never download, or to be prompted before downloading jre.

  • How to disable photo-downloader for ever ?

    Hi there,
    after installing Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 my PC always shows an active downloader icon in the systray. I don't want this program to run for ever (or at each startup). Even deactivating is only valid until the next reboot.
    How can I disable this program ?
    Thanks for your help
    Casik

    Hi Casik,
    You can disable the downloader by right clicking the icon and selecting disable. After this the icon is still visible in system tray but Downloader doe snot launch automatically.
    There have been some posts in the past about removing the icon from system tray. However I have not tried the suggestions and cannot tell you for sure whether we they work.
    Here is the link to one of the posts:

  • JFilchooser error on Webstart application with latest JRE download

    Recently we have observed that with the latest versions of JRE downloads the JFilechooser does not pop up and on some machines and on some machines it throws out a 3184 error message on windows vista machines.
    We are seeing this error occuring only on Vista .Everything works fine on XP though.
    We have a java web start application which runs on the client machine and it has functionalities where it opens the jfilechooser.
    Unfortunately with the latest update of JRE this is giving very big problems for us and im not sure how to fix this problem.
    Can someone help us with this problem and provide a solution.
    My class definition looks like this
    FileAndDirectorySelection extends JPanel implements ActionListener {
    JFileChooser fc;
         fc = new JFileChooser(".");
                   fc.setCurrentDirectory(exportDefaultDirectory);
    Not sure how to fix this problem but any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Can I provide a local jre download link?

    Legally, can I provide a local jre download link for our customers?
    I have a product that requires a specific JRE family (1.5) and I'd really like to provide a link during our web client discovery to a local copy (on tomcat) of the jre.
    I know that netbeans and eclipse etc, bundle the jre without any legal issues, but I'm worried that providing a link for web clients (even if they are on a local intranet) may not be legal.
    I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks in advance.

    Good advice.
    The section of the license agreement of interest is:
    B. License to Distribute Software. Subject to the
    terms and conditions of this Agreement and
    restrictions and exceptions set forth in the Software
    README file, including, but not limited to the Java
    Technology Restrictions of these Supplemental Terms,
    Sun grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable,
    limited license without fees to reproduce and
    distribute the Software, provided that (i) you
    distribute the Software complete and unmodified and
    only bundled as part of, and for the sole purpose of
    running, your Programs, (ii) the Programs add
    significant and primary functionality to the Software,
    (iii) you do not distribute additional software
    intended to replace any component(s) of the Software,
    (iv) you do not remove or alter any proprietary
    legends or notices contained in the Software, (v) you
    only distribute the Software subject to a license
    agreement that protects Sun's interests consistent
    with the terms contained in this Agreement, and (vi)
    you agree to defend and indemnify Sun and its
    licensors from and against any damages, costs,
    liabilities, settlement amounts and/or expenses
    (including attorneys' fees) incurred in connection
    with any claim, lawsuit or action by any third party
    that arises or results from the use or distribution of
    any and all Programs and/or Software.But to be more specific, the line that I'm worried about is:
    you distribute the Software complete and unmodified and only bundled as part of, and for the sole purpose of running, your Programs
    In my case, the client is using a browser, and would be logged in and then provided a link to our local download. All for the purpose of running our applets. However, there is nothing keeping the client from then moving on and using the JRE for something else.
    Therefore, I'm thinking that breaks the license.
    I think I am forced to provide a download link to Sun....
    /sigh

  • As firefox does not be able to complete downloads iw ould like to disable its download manager

    I have DAP as my default download manager.Sometimes tho Firefox decides to do the download it`s self.

    Welcome to the forum.
    The updates on firefox, like many other things in firefox are customisable / customizable, you can set it for instance to notify you but not update, or you check manually for updates, or allow it to update automatically.
    * see [[updating firefox]]
    * you may also find [[software update failed]] useful
    BTW you appear to be using an experimental beta version of firefox.
    If you are new to firefox it may well be worth installing the current release firefox 3.6.
    *otherwise
    ** you will remain on experimental versions and updates to those which you may not always want, - some may not always work or be compatible with other software
    ** you will not have the current stable version
    You should then follow the instructions to create an additional 'profile' so that each version has its own profile, otherwise you are likely to run in to problems. ( The "profile" stores bookmarks and a lot of your important firefox data, you do not want that to get messed up with beta editions of software) If you ever uninstall firefox note the option to remove settings removes all data bookmarks etc from ALL installed versions of firefox. (Firefox normally, otherwise, does a good job of presering settings and bookmarks etc)

  • Disable file download

    Dear all,
    I use Firefox 25/26/27 on Debian Wheezy (7) and i want to disable file download.
    I don't want to be ask by the download manager, just reject the file.
    There is any way to do this ?
    Or it's impossible ?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.
    I already saw this plugin, but it don't do what i want.
    I am still ask by the download manager for accept or cancel the download.
    If the link is for download file, i don't want to be ask, i want that Firefox just reject automatically the download.
    But i didn't find anything for the moment.
    Edit:
    I think it's not possible to disable download with firefox.

  • JDK/JRE Download Page has Wrong File

    Hello,
    On the JDK and JRE download pages, the download for Windows Itanium (IA64) actually contains the AMD64 (x64, x86_64) download, even though the file itself is labeled as IA64. Where can I download the Windows Itanium JDK (or even JRE at this point--I just need Java)? And who can I get in touch with to have this issue rectified?
    Thanks,
    Nick

    Intel and Amd's implementations of x64 are basically the same. It's just Intel's Itanium architecture that's radically different. Originally it was supposed to be the replacement for x86, but it ended up in a niche server market. My point is is that the two architectures require differently compiled binaries. Java.com doesn't even list the IA64 binaries as most home users wouldn't have their own Itanium server. That's why you have to come to the Oracle page to get it. The IA64 download says it is meant for the Itanium processor so that only those with Itanium machines will download it. My issue is that the person at Oracle who posted the download doesn't know the difference and is posting the two as if they're interchangeable. While most users won't notice the difference, the few who actually need the Itanium binaries will.

  • Link to JRE download page

    Link to JRE download page
    I maintain a free Java program which can be started from the Web-site.
    On the Web-site I need to tell how Java is downloaded and installed.
    What download page should I link to ?
    I found only http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp.
    However, this seems to be a download page for developers and JRE is described among
    other technologies and programming tools.
    I guess there is somewhere a download page for end-users but I
    did not find it even with the site map.

    http://java.com is intended for end users.
    Note that this site does not necessarily feature the most up-to-date Java version (right now, the version being served up is 1.5.0_09, as opposed to the most current 1.6.0.) Clicking "Manual Update" then "Download other Java software versions " leads to instructions for them.

  • HT203433 I can't consistently disable automatic downloads from iTunes

    I keep trying to disable automatic downloads from iTunes (don't want TV shows I've purchased through my Apple TV to download onto my computer), by going to iTunes - Preferences - Store - and it works for a while, then it starts to automatically download these TV shows again when I open iTunes. So it works some of the time, but not consistently. Very frustrating! Can anyone help?

    After reading some of the similar posts on here, I tried removing all the items from the iTunes downloads folder on my hard drive, and signing out from the iTunes store. Signing out from the iTunes store solved the problem temporarily, but as soon as I signed in again, the automatic downloads started again. When I looked in the iTunes downloads folder, there they were again - the .tmp files of the TV shows I DON'T want on my computer. Now I have another problem. When I went back into iTunes to check if the Store Preferences were still set to NO automatic downloads, I found those choices greyed out. They were still set to disable automatic downloads (no tick in those boxes) but now I can't change them at all. So I must have thrown out something I needed when I threw the contents of the downloads folder into the trash, and then emptied the trash. I tried to get the trash back using Time Machine, but couldn't find it in there. Sighhhh! I'm at my wits end and now I'm afraid to make things any worse than they already are.

  • Disable Photo Download Link

    Does anyone know how to disable the download button in the albums? I looked around and I couldn't find any way of removing the button. I don't really want to have to password protect my site and only allow specific people access, but it is the only alternative I see to stopping people from being able to download my images at will. They are of course small res images, not usable for printing, but still, I'd rather not give people the opportunity to snag my work. Any ideas on how to work around this?
    Any advice on these issues would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

    So, I gave this a try - putting a box over the download button that is the same color as the background to mask it and it works to a certain degree. The problem with it is that the download button on that third view (the larger image with the thumbnails that scroll across the top) is in the same spot at the subscribe button on the previous page (the page that is the actual album page with all of the photo thumbviews on it). So if you put a box over the download button, it also covers up the subscribe button on that previous page, because somehow the two pages are linked. Now if you don't care if people can subscribe to your pages or not, this solution works. But, if like me, you would like to encourage people to subscribe to the feed (rather than having to send out a massive email every time a new photo is uploaded) then this method will not work.
    Thanks for the suggestion though Roddy, on the basic level it makes perfect sense and is a viable work around to the problem.
