  • Install Apps before initial setup

    Hello,
If I reinstall Mac OS X on a Mac notebook, then, once Mac OS X gets to the first boot/intro/setup screen, restart the Mac holding the T key, then install applications onto the notebook? I need to sell this computer, and wondered how to install apps on the computer before the initial setup.
    Thanks

Is this a new install, or a transfer from an old Mac to a new one?
If this is a migration, and you're connecting an old Mac to a new one, and you have the firewire cable hooked up, then using the Migration Assistant will run you through a series of questions, one of which will enable you to transfer user, network settings, apps, and files and folders.
    Looks pretty simple.
One thing before doing anything: BACK EVERYTHING UP!!! iTunes, photos, documents, love letters or what have you. Stuff can happen in these transfers.
Now: If this is a new install...from what I know, apps would have to be loaded after. If you're selling it, it should come only with the apps that came with it to start with, IMHO.
    Hope this helps--

  • Problems Connecting to Discoverer App Server

I have Discoverer3i and Oracle8i co-existing on one NT 4.0 sp3 machine with IIS as the Web Server.
All parts of the installation went well. I can connect to the database from both instances using sql*plus and the DB Alias. I can connect to the EUL using Discoverer User edition on the server itself.
When I try connecting from a remote client using a Web Browser, the applet responds with an erro message "Unable to connect to the Oracle Discoverer Application server oracle/discoverer/corba/_st_DCILocator please contact your oracle discoverer Administrator". The OracleDiscovererService is running, so is the OADUTIL and the Locator. I even cleaned up the CLASSPATH and removed PATH references to the Oracle 8i installation of JRE to ensure no conflicts but still get this error. Any Ideas anyone?
    Thanks.

    - Modem
    - AIRPORT extreme ( static IP and DHCP active for clients ).
    - Backup medium ( USB connection with AIRPORT extreme )
    - MAC mini server ( new ) needed for SBS purposes ( ethernet connection with AIRPORT ).
    - Client MAC & Windows ( 5-10 connected with the AIRPORT for internet )
    - Printer ( all in one) .

I do not have a second server name server in use ( one server one location in use ).
I wish to run the e-mail service on my own server ( and Sendlabs MX backup Dyndns for backup ).
    How to setup ?

And change the NS record in DirectAdmin to my own server ( ns1.b.smarthosting.net to mydomain.com )?
And make de records ( www, subdomain.mydomain.com ) in my own DNS server.

  • How to setup reports in Apps Server 10.1.2.0.0

I know 10.1.2.0.0 does not have oracle reports. I know that 10.1.2.0.2 does have oracle reports. From the docs I have I cannot upgrade 10.1.2.0.0 to 10.1.2.0.2. Is there anyway I can load a new Apps server 10.1.2.0.2 and get it to use the 10.1.2.0.0 meta data and identity infrastructure of 10.1.2.0.0? If this works how would I setup a reports portlet in a 10.1.2.0.0 portal? Anyone have any ideals?

  • 10.1.2 App Server and Discoverer

    Hello,
I'm attempting to install and configure Discoverer. I have installed the 10.1.2 Infrastructure successfully. As I read the docs for Installing the MidTier, I run into confusion. in part 7 of the Oracle Application Server (10.1.2) Quick Installation Guide, titled Installing Portal and Wireless or Business Intelligence and Forms Developer Topology. It claims that I will have a Business Intelligence and Forms option on the Installation Type screen. Well, this is not true. I have the following options after I choose Mid Tier: J2EE & Web Cache and Portal and Wireless. I don't have a BI & Forms option. Now, I did put the 3 cd's of BI on the machine in assuming that I will need them.
Do I need to install J2EE & Web Cache OR Portal and Wireless from the App Server Disk, or do I just need to install Bus. Intelligence from the 3 BI cd's? The documentation seems to have been a quick copy/paste from a previous version with pieces/steps missing. Thanks in advance,
    Kelly

    Hi Kelly,
The Oracle Application Server Middle Tier Installation should have the BI option - I just installed the Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.0 & as mentioned on the Installer Page, I saw have all these products :-

  • Initial setup on mac mini server without monitor?

I have bought a mac mini lion server today. I do not have desktops in home, so no monitors.
How can I setup/login into it? I tried Server Admin Tools, but I do not have root password (tried blank and serial number).

I have a MBA late 2010. So, no thunderbolt.
I was hoping connect to it using ssh to execute initial setup to be abble to use remote admin tool.
The problem is that ssh do not accept root connection.
Since I do not have any display at all, the idea would be to turn the server on and setup it. Since it is a server I thought I could do this without any issue.
Linc. In your idea. How should I start mac mini in disk mode and how can I boot the MBA using mini internal drive?
    Any ideas?

  • Oracle Discoverer with Apps 11.5.10 : Apps server side settings???

    Hi All!
We have Oracle Apps 11.5.10 set up on our Apps server. The Discoverer Services status is 'started'.
Can someone tell me what settings are required to be done on Apps server in order to create an EUL or to use the Apps BI reports?
Is there any note or document that can be useful?
    Thanks and regards,
    Aparna

    Hi Aparna
If you haven't seen that note or followed its steps yet, take a deep breath because its quite involved. From scratch it will probably take at least a day to go through it. Also, please make sure you follow every step and don't try to jump ahead. Many of the one-liners are very important and if missed will make it not work right.
The good thing though is that 100s of companies have gone through the same document so you can be reassured that it does work.
If you've not installed Discoverer in Apps mode yet and you'd like some screenshots of how Apps mode is set up in Discoverer, I have a white paper on my website that walks you through at least that part. Here's a link: http://learndiscoverer.com/downloads/downloads.htm

  • Discoverer on Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0

    Hi,
We're trying to install Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0 and have BI Publisher and Discoverer on it.
Q1. Is it possible to install Discoverer in Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0. Has any one tried this?
Q2. To integrate BI Publisher and Discoverer (with the caveat that we can install them both successfully on 10.1.3.2.0), what web services patch goes for Discoverer?
Any help with this is highly appreciated!
    -Esther

    Answering my own question ---
Apps Server 10.1.3.2.0 doesn't come with Discoverer. Discoverer will still be on AS 10.1.2.2.0 with latest patch (CP6) + Web Services Patch for integration with BI Publisher.

  • Initial Setup:  Apple TV 3 Can't Connect to Server

    Hi All-
Just bought a new Apple TV (2012) and in the initial setup it tries to connect to the iTunes store when attempting to turn on Home Sharing, but it comes back with an error message "Unable to Sign In.  Apple TV can't connect to the server at this time.  Please try later."  I've been trying for two days to no avail.
I have a TIme Capsule for my wifi network.  I've also tried connecting via wired ethernet, also no luck.  I've tried resetting the Apple TV, unplugging & replugging it, restarting my Time Capsule, and I've turned off my firewall.  I've also tried restoring the Apple TV, but this also generates a "Can't restore at this time. Please try later" error message.
I've read through other threads that address people's trouble with Home Sharing.  They seem to still have access to Netflix, etc.  I don't.  I only have two options on the home screen "Computers" and "Settings."
    Any help would be appreciated.

I would try changing your store location under the settings menu. For indivduals outside the US, change the store location has resolved the "two options" problem. Which is not really your issue, but it worth a shot since you have tried all the standard procedures.  OS 5.0 is buggy software and a step backwards on  Apple part. I would also update iTunes to 10.6.1 if you haven't already.

  • Discoveries while trying to setup Leopard Server - Help! What am I doing ??

I have documented 2 scenarios and i would like some help with proper build procedures. Until today I have been using the host record I asked my ISP who also hosts Pri/Sec for my company domain to setup. It wasn't until this morning that I realized that they didn't setup a PTR record so because of that I did a RDNS lookup on my static IP and today I programmed that into the host/domain fields thru my build so that there was proper RDNS for the setup. Which looks like this rrcs-0-0-0-0.central.biz.us.rr.com zero's being an actual static IP.
Scenario 1- Install Leopard onto MacMini with Standard install and use Apple Airport extreme for NAT firewall/router. Ok so I have done this about 4-6 times to try and get this right.
    A. Install Leopard and let OS auto config Airport-N for port mapping.
    B. Airport WAN is static IP from ISP and LAN is 10.0.1.1, Mini LAN is 10.0.1.2 Airport is DHCP provider on LAN.
    C. Mini hostname is set to rrcs-0-0-0-0 and domain is set to central.biz.us.rr.com
    D. After the system was rebooted after install I immediately got an error because the server prefs told me it could not find server rrcs-0-0-0-0.central.biz.us.rr.com which was weird because it is a brand new build. but since I setup the computer name to be mac-srvr I was able to remove the FQDN and input mac-srvr.local and then I could sign in. ---- I think this happened because when I am trying to log into the server prefs it's going out and performing a lookup and returning an error because from inside the FQDN reverse is actually the WAN interface of the Airport and not the LAN of the mini even though I told the mini to be the FQDN. Hope that makes sense and someone can tell me if I am right and then how to fix it .
    E. When I connected the MacBook and setup a user on the LAN side and then immediately disconnected from LAN and performed Dialup to the internet I was able to use the VPN for the first time which is great but but but the ichat would not work as I kept getting certificate errors and the ical from what I remember was good.
So major issues here in this scenario is that internally the server is setup as rrcs-0-0-0-0.central.biz.us.rr.com and services don't seem to be able to find that computer. And second ichat does not accept the default certificate and or cannot connect to the ichat server.
Scenario 2 - Install Leopard onto MacPro with Standard install nic0-wan with static ip 0.0.0.0 and nic1-lan with static of 192.168.1.1
    A. Install Leopard and set hostname=rrcs-0-0-0-0 and domain=central.biz.us.rr.com with computer name of mac-srvr.
    B. Upon server reboot and the second interface is not giving out IP's, I found that the range was from 192.168.1.2-254 and the default search domain was example.com because I Ieft that field blank during install and so I had to stop DHCP and setup someting like company.office and restart and all is was good.
    C. Once Macbook was on LAN and services setup properly I then disconnected and I was not able to VPN into the network like on the macmini unless I opened up the server admin and went the vpn console and then enabled pptp with another range. I could then PPTP vpn but not L2TP which should have worked out of the setup. But when I do PPTP I cannot gain access to server resources via smb://192.168.1.1 which is what the server automatically creates when you run server gateway assistant.
    D. The ichat and or L2TP VPN does not work unless I actually go into the Server Admin and disable it which I have another posting in VPN/Networking support about this for a 3rd build showing the same issues.
So major issues here are that services such as ichat, L2TP does not work unless I disable firewall, PPTP does work but does not pass traffic onto the LAN or I can't log into the server shares.
So if anyone has any insight, I am about 20 rebuilds in trying to get just one working properly over the past 3 days. And if anyone has a step by step that would be even better lol. I have all the Apple Server Docs as I attended a training seminar recently so I am well versed in the generic documentation but there is nothing in the server admin or any other apple doc that states this is what you need and how to do it as far as setup goes with setting up your Leopard server if you don't have external DNS and or if you just want to have a fake dns setup like fakeserver.fakedomain.office as we do with SBS. So any help would be good.

Found that if I clean up DNS for my domain with PTR and A then everything started working properly after a rebuild.

  • Initial workflow runs on WFE, then APP server, loses dependency?

I'm still having issues with a WFE deployment to a farm with a WFE, an APP, and a SQL server. I'm trying to get my head around it. Workflow timer jobs run on the APP server, in accordance with Microsoft recommendations.
    User adds a list item
When he / she submits their request, an Update workflow is kicked off -
this part of the workflow I believe is still running on WFE because I see my printed messages in the ULS logs on the WFE
If the request to update a list item is approved, the workflow kicks off a timer job.
The SharePoint timer service then picks up the job on the APP server - I know this because I see my printed messages on the APP server instead of WFE.
Submitted request passed on to a database on a different server.
Getting the right solution has been challenging as I've been struggling to ask the right questions. I've confirmed that the SharePoint 2010 Timer Job is started on both servers with same account. I'm thinking that the wsp deploys something to the WFE,
but not to the APP server. For #5 to happen, that something needs to live on the WFE (unless I want to change the service configuration and add Workflow Timer Jobs on both servers.)
I'm thinking that the solution should be to manually add whatever those files are deployed via the wsp to the APP server as well.
    Scott

Best practice states that Foundation Web runs on every server in the farm, as solutions must be built around the exception of not running Foundation Web on particular servers. You're encountering that issue, the solution wasn't built to accommodate for
this type of architecture. There is little reason to not run Foundation Web on all servers, including performance.

    M.S. Veerendra-
This is a known incompatibility, described at:
    http://support.solarmetric.com/Ticket/Display.html?id=14082
Can you try the workarounds listed at:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=136&thread=499803&tstart=0&trange=15
and let us know if it works?

  • Office Web Apps Server IIS site disappeared?

I deployed an Office Web Apps server on a dedicated VM to be used for Lync 2013. After the initial installation / set up, I confirmed the discovery URL. It worked fine.
However, after one point in time, PowerPoint Presentations stopped working. When trying to share a PPT presentation, the Lync client popped up a message saying "Sorry, we couldn't upload <ppt file name> because we're having trouble connecting
to the service. If this keeps happening, try contacting your support team". I've done many many Lync and Office Web Apps install myself previously, and never had a message pop up like the one I saw in this case.
I tried going to the Web Apps discovery URL again, and it didn't get anywhere. I got on the Web Apps server and all the IIS sites were wiped.
I tried uninstalling the Office Web Apps server and reinstalling, but from that point on, IIS sites for Web Apps just would not appear under IIS manager.
Has anyone had similar issue with Office Web Apps?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
Maybe the windows update is active and configured to Automatically download and installed update of Office Web Apps and this behavior just breaking your setup.
    Try

    Install SP1
