Discovery Server - configuration and abap changes allowed?

Hello -
We are thinking about deploying a ESA Discovery Server, specifically for exploring ERP 2005. We may use this as a way to get one of our project teams busy doing proto-types, while we build out a true ERP 2005 Dev/Qual/Prod environment for them.
I anticipate that some of our project team members will want to create transports of config and/or ABAP code. And, would ultimately like us to export/import this into a DEV system, once it is built.
Is anyone aware of any restrictions for using the ESA Discovery Server, in a fashion like this? Or, any restrictions about importing transports into the ERP 2005 instance within Discovery Server (except the obvious version compatibility issues, etc.)

Hi Steve,
As long as you ahve the appropriate ABAP development licenses you should be fine. The software which is installed is the exact same software which you will later download from service marketplace or obtain via DVD from SAP. Therefore, technically it should work fine. Of course, you will need to ensure the transport mechanism is configured properly for your environment.

Must be the server has different clients,one declared as application server ie abap stack client and the other declared as Integration server ie XI. U might be trying to open idx5 in application server client, in which idx5 exists but you cant open the screen even, that can be achieved through we02.
000 is the default client when XI server is installed .We can create separate clients on the system through sccl tcode.
As told we can find the client on sap logon screen.
Logon to sxmb_adm and check whether the client is declared as an application system(r/3) or Integration server(xi).Try idx5 in xi not r/3

DNS server configuration and behaivour

I'm looking for detail explanations which can explain how Mac OS X 10.6 *DNS client* works and may be configured.
According to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2227251 nothing is not guaranteed like order and failover.
According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4030 failover will take affect when DNS server returns with SERV_FAIL (0x2) error code. What about NXDOMAIN (0x3) error code (which is more interesting scenario)?
What I'm looking for DNS client?
I'm looking for several DNS servers configuration which allow to split DNS domains for several areas. This, for example, may be very useful for VPN connections when VPN DNS server will resolve internal resource and another server (configured before VPN tunnel established) will resolve external resources.
Is there any possible configuration to achieve this requirement for Mac OS?

In your scenario:
1. You configured to different DNS servers and probably only one of them replied to DNS queries. And this is OK.
2. When non valid IP configured means that DNS server will not reply to DNS query and than failover will query the second DNS server in the list. And this is also OK.
I'm looking 2 different DNS servers configuration when one of them will reply to different domains. For example:
First server will reply to *.mycompany.com.
The second one will reply to any query except mycompany.com domain(since it is not published).

InDesign Server configuration and fonts

When you start multiple instances of InDesign Servers you specify the different configuration names.
Is it possible that 2 instances of InDesign Servers running on the same server with different configuration names have different fonts installed?
I.e. can I install some fonts of configuration level, not for the entire server?

There is no document titled "InDesign Server Installation and Configuration Guide". This was an error in the CS2 version of Introduction to InDesign Server.
You'll find the CS2 version of Introduction to InDesign Server in the InDesign Server CS2 ESD (the server download bundle). Even better you'll find the CS3 version in the InDesign CS3 Server SDK. Available at the following URL:

The information about Java/CORBA is specific to CS3, but the information about scripting and SOAP applies to CS2.

LDAP-Server configuration and using

can anyone tel me how it function with the LDAP-Server in the Adobe LiveCycle Es?

LiveCycle ES has an administrative console you can get at http://localhost:8080/adminui. You can log in with administrator/password.
Under the Settings section, you can go to User Management and then Domain Management.
In there you can define a new Enteprise Domain and create a new Authorization and Directory for that new domain.
In the Authorization, you can select LDAP. Under the Directory, you'll be taken through a wizard that will help you configure the LDAP connection to get the list of users and groups.
Then go back to Domain Management and select "Synch Now". You can set that synchronization to occur periodically.
Once you can connect to the LDAP server properly and get the list of users, you should be able to log to the different interfaces using users from the LDAP system.
You might need to give them LiveCyle roles to access some of the interfaces like adminui, workspace, etc. You can add roles under Settings/User Mangement/Role Management

Error: SQR configuration and the BRB datasource definition..

Hello, I've had Hyperion installed on my computer for about 6 months. Ihave two existing connections to seperate servers with DB2databases. I use existing ODBC drivers for the connection. I wastrying to install a third connection to a server/database and madesome changes to perhaps the driver. When I try to run a report nowI seem to connect and get an error : Failed to produce HTML outputfile. Most likely causes include: SQR configuration and the BRBdatasource definition used for this report. I get this error forall the connections now. I've tried unistalling and reinstallingthe software. I've checked the SQRDIR and BRIO_HOME and they seemedgood. I have the server installed on my computer. Are there any suggestions as to what I might have done tocreate this error? Thank you, Sheila

How many processes are running simultaneously ?

Calling Reports from a Form - Application Server Forms and Reports Services

We currently are running App Server 10G Forms and Reports and Oracle DB 11G. Forms are running fine with the Apps Server but what I need to find out is how do I set the path for the .rdf files of the reports and how do I configure the Apps Server to present the Reports? I am sure we have to edit a .conf file and add the server name but not sure what to do or how to do it?
ps. I am a newb but I managed to get both of Apps Server and Database configured on my lonesome so I am just missing the info on the Reports side of things.
The Developer has asked the following questions :-
We want to run a report created in report builder from forms by using the following command in forms;

what does v_url need to be - we need to find an example showing the v_web_address and v_rpt_server

Running Sun App Server 7 and 8 on the same box

Are there any known issues with running Sun App Server 7 and 8 in the same host box ? Currently I am encountering some class not found exceptions with Sun App Server 8 . Sun App Server 7 runs just fine.

It's not advisable to run separate installations of
ColdFusion 7 and ColdFusion 8 single server on the same machine the
re are several services that will try to use the same ports.
However, you can install ColdFusion Enterprise using the
multi-server configuration and then deploy the J2EE versions of
ColdFusion to JRun. You can change the JVM that each instance uses
(we recommend the latest 1.4 for CF7 and the latest 1.6 for CF8),
and everything should run fine.
ColdFusion itself is essentially just a J2EE application, the
J2EE server itself is JRun 4. So the specific answer to your
question is "don't install 2 copies of JRun 4 to the same machine".
But yes, it's 100% possible, I'm running this configuration in my
own development environment.

Split Permissions for Server Configuration

I'm currently migrating our organization to Exchange 2010. We have 3 different Exchange servers worldwide and different administrators for each. I'm trying to give the other 2 remote sites "Server Configuration" administration so that they may
manage their own Databases and Receive connectors, etc.
When I give their users the Server Configuration rights in RBAC, it's giving them rights to edit databases in ALL locations, not just their own. And this is when I have the scope set to only their OU which contains their server.
Is there a way for me to give them rights to only their server configuration and not all of the servers in the organization?

I've given the remote admin account "Administer Data Store" rights in ADSIEdit at the server level, however they are still unable to make any database changes, everything is locked. Does anyone know exactly what rights are required for users
to make changes to DB's, add DB's, etc. on their server?
EDIT: OK, I've got my answer after a little digging around. This is just for reference:
First I found this article which specifies how to make a custom write scope for specific DB's. This is great, except for the fact that I want full Server management including Receive Connectors, Virtual Directories, etc.

So in the end, I created two write scopes for two of our remote sites that have Exchange Servers. Then I copied the "Server Management" RBAC role and forced the custom Server Scope I defined. The result is exactly what I want, they
have full server management but only within their own scope. Any changes outside of the scope on a different server get a Denied message.

Install Developer 7.1 trial on a Discovery Server

Hi, I am trying to install CE 7.1 on a discovery server (V3) and it seems to be tripping over the existing installed maxdb. My first question is
'Is CE developer edition supported on MS Server 2003 (32 bit)'
The various documents available seem to contradict each other.
The other question is to do with the error I get during the install. It is at step 14 I think when it is preparing the database and the file XCMDOUT.LOG has the following:

It looks like it genuinely was a dll version issue. I did a standalone install and that had slightly later dll's installed so I copied those over and the install continue.

We want to define standard server configuration and roll it out to all developers to avoid error-prone configuration at the workplaces.

You can also run the the Server Assistant (/Applications/Server/Server Assistant.app) and save the resulting configuration to a file or as a directory record.
If that file is present at the root level of any local drive, or present on a directory server, when a new copy of Mac OS X Server boots up for the first time (Think USB pen drive) it will automatically configure itself and reboot.
This can be very useful if you need to setup many servers at once. However, you are only storing the serial number and a few basic settings (time zone, which services to turn on by default, etc) so this feature isn't really all that great for disaster recovery purposes. It can, however, save you a few minutes dealing with serial numbers when you need to rebuild a server NOW.
Also, since none of your services will be configured yet, it's usually best practice to setup a server without any services turned on (except maybe remote desktop) and then turn them on after you get things setup. This is where those "tear" sheet .plist backup files from Server Admin come in handy.

Installed MySQL ODBC, system DSN configured and working, provider still not showing in SQL 2005 provider list

As per the title, really.
I need to fetch data periodically from a MySQL DB. Installed the 5.1 MySQL 32bit ODBC driver onto the SQL server, configured and tested the DSN, all fine.
Provider still not showing in the list in Management Studio.
Can anyone offer any advice? is it a simple case of restarting services? I haven't tried that due to the server being in production.

Is this a 64 bit SQL Server? For a linked server you can only use OleDB data provider, have you also installed OleDB for MySQL? If not, then you have to use the ODBC OleDB provider together with a System DSN.

Software Configuration and Change Management for ABAP

Hi all,
we developed an ABAP application with about 10 developers and shipped it to Customer A.
Then we do corrections and enhancements for a new Customer B. But then Customer A finds bugs in his shipped version, which is not the current version on our development system.
Now a lot of time is wasted debugging the current version and finding out why the bug is there in the shipped version A but not in the current version.
So its difficult and timeconsuming to manage those different versions of the same application for different customers.
This effort increases with each new customer dramatically.
The ABAP workbench only knows linear versioning of single ABAP objects like report, function module or class.
Now the question:
Is there a standard transaction or external ABAP software that supports such a Software Configuration & Change Managment, i.e. allows tagging, branching, maintaining multiple development branches, allows running transactions and reports of older revisions, etc. like so many non-SAP/ABAP SCCMs like CVS, Bitkeeper, Subversion or Monotone do in the OpenSource world?
I found one called Conigma from Galileo Group, but am wondering if there are others, or whether there is someone having used such a tool.

In ABAP world, there is supposed to be one development environment for one production system.
The transport of changes follow the path
DEV --> QAS --> Production.
One golden rule is while making any changes to a program in Development, ensure that the version is compatible with production and QAS.
If there is a change request already open for the development object then that earlier change request should be finished first and the changes should get transported to QAS and production.
It seems you are trying to handle two production systems using one development system. That will surely bring some serious fun
Though, if you have no other option then keep the record of versions applicable to your different customers.
Later retrieve the version according to the customer before making any changes.
