Diskgroup not mounted during cluster startup

Hi,
I have a 2 node RAC(11GR2) on VMWare 7.1.4. OS is Solaris 10
I have registered 2 instances in the cluster.
srvctl add database -d dbrac -o /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 -a "extdg,nordg"
srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2 -n vmsol2
srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1 -n vmsol1
After after registering the 2 instances, initially the instance were automatically up when ever I execute a ./crsctl start cluster.
But now the database instances on both nodes are not comming up; only ASM is up.
While checking ASM disk group, I found EXTDG and NORDG is not mounted. So I mounted the disk group and started the database.
Then I manually mounted, the disk groups and started the database.
SQL> alter diskgroup nordg mount;
Diskgroup altered
SQL> alter diskgroup extdg mount;
Later I tried removing the the database configuration from the cluster using SRVCTL and added the database to cluster again.
srvctl remove instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1
srvctl remove instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2
srvctl remove database -d dbrac
srvctl add database -d dbrac -o /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 -a "extdg,nordg"
srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2 -n vmsol2
srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1 -n vmsol1
Still database is not starting during cluster startup.
Why did the disk group is not getting mounted while cluster is starting? Can someone help me?
Regards,
Mat

Hi,
Thank you for your replay.
Disk group was mounting previously without doing any modification in spfile after executing the following commands.
srvctl add database -d dbrac -o /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1 -a "extdg,nordg"
srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac2 -n vmsol2
srvctl add instance -d dbrac -i dbrac1 -n vmsol1
But suddenly this issue happened.
I do not have metalink access. Could you please help me?
Regards,
Mat.

    Hi Parvez and Ivaylo,
Has any of you used the startup mode setting? I tried using it and set it to always but the application still won't start. Is there anything I'm missing?
    My application-j2ee-engine.xml looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE application-j2ee-engine SYSTEM "application-j2ee-engine.dtd">

  • ORA-15001: diskgroup "FRA" does not exist or is not mounted

    Dear Experts,
We noticed the error "ORA-15001: diskgroup "FRA" does not exist or is not mounted" on the 2nd node of our 4 nodes RAC database system.
During this weekend, we moved our system to a new data center. After the move was done, we were able to bring up the 4 instances around 3:00 AM. However, 4 hours later (7:00 AM), OEM Grid control alerted us with "archival error" on the 2nd instance. From our investigating, we saw the FRA was dismounted. Below is the oracle alert log file (For secuirty reson, the SID is modified):

ORA-15001: diskgroup "FRA" does not exist or is not mounted
ORA-15001: diskgroup "FRA" does not exist or is not mounted It is my understanding, that Oracle will automatically mount the diskgroups on the ASM when the instances are started. In our case, all other diskgroups are started OK but not the FRA diskgroup. Is this a bug with FRA where FRA can not be automatically started up after recycling the instance? Did anyone experience the same situation? Can someone advice?
    Thanks!

  • Fingerprint Reader Not Detected during startup on Windows 7

    Dear Community Users/Tech Guru,
I am hoping somebody could shed light into a weired issue I am facing with this *stupid* Microsoft OS. I purchased a T400 last year and brought a x64 bit Windows 7 three months ago and have it setup for clean installation. I followed the procedure published in lenovo.
I had the security setup of my notebook to use pre-desktop authentication and single sign-on. I had everything setup and running.
However, after a few weeks I began to noticed that upon power up and giving a fingerprint swipe on the bios authentication, it would halt on the windows startup page (where we would normally login). It turns out that the fingerprint device is not detected! Something is not workin properly during the startup of bill gates Microsoft Windows 7! I would try a reboot on the system and it will load properly afterwards.
But I find it stupid that Windows doesn't detect my fingerprint device on startup! This happens when it's a cold boot using a battery (at least 70% of the time it turns out that way). I disabled  the single sign-on but retained the desktop authentication (means I have to swipe twice). But this f*ck OS is still not detecting it during cold start.
    Anyone... please advice?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I attempted to reset the policy settings of CSS but then the pop up screen just got stuck:
    - I did a reboot and reset the fingerprint data and password (after exporting the
      settings),
    - uninstalled the fingerprint reader and CSS
    - uninstalled the CSS. I had encountered some issues while uninstalling it
Windows is reporting that the installation log file could not be found. I manually
downloaded the driver from the site and used the installer to remove it from my PC
    - Reinstalled both CSS and Fingerprint driver
    - Import all my security settings (password and fingerprint)
    - Tested CSS and used fingerprint as default login method in battery mode
    - Enabled Single SignIn method in CSS and BIOS
So far so good, the reinstallation fixed the issue. I did recall that there was a windows update before this mayhem on the fingerprint reader started.

  • Internal hard drives not mounting on startup

Problem: I recently did a clean install of Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on my Early 2008 Mac Pro. Since then, one or more of my four internal hard drives will not mount at startup, and it's seemingly random which ones will or won't mount; it differs from one startup to the next. Obviously, the boot drive starts up, but the remaining three drives are hit-or-miss.
Troubleshooting So Far: I can open Disk Utility and mount the disk(s) manually, and when I click Verify Disk, the hardware checks out okay. After my most recent startup, I brought up the System Log in Terminal (sudo syslog -B) and found this entry for one disk ("Media 1") that did not mount:
    Apr 25 10:40:09 new-host-2.home fseventsd[48] <Critical>: event logs in /Volumes/Media 1/.fseventsd out of sync with volume.  destroying old logs. (454 0 68038)

There were no entries for the disks that mounted correctly. Can anyone make sense of this for me? The system jargon is a little beyond me.
    Thanks for your help!

Is "Media 1" the name of the volume, or is it just "Media"?

  • Startup disk "Not mounted", needs to be repaired but can't get it to mount

I did a Verify Disk because my HD has been having issues. It told me I needed to backup and reformat, so I went ahead and backed everything up and went to DU in recovery mode.
But when I got there, my Macintosh HD showed up as "Mount Point: Not Mounted", so I did the following:
I clicked on the Macintosh HD from the list and clicked "Mount". It gives me the following:
    Mount failed
The disk "Macintosh HD" could not be mounted.
Try running First Aid on the disk and then try mounting.
So I click "Verify Disk" and it gives me this:
Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD"
This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk.
So I go to click Repair Disk but it's grey and cannot be selected, I assume because my drive is not mounted.
So how can I'm in a paradox and REALLY need help with getting my startup drive mounted again. Can anyone help?
Let me know if I can provide more info for troubleshooting and thank you in advance!

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How to NOT mount a harddrive on startup?

    hi,
on my macbook pro 13" (2,3 GHz, early 2011, macosx 10.8.2), i replaced the DVD drive with an SSD. so now, the macbook has a 256GB SSD and a 500GB harddrive inside. i only use the harddrive as a media drive for final cut pro editing, all other things are done by the SSD alone.
right now, on every startup the harddrive would mount, although i most often do not need it.
question: is there a way to keep the harddrive from mounting, so the default startup would bring up only the SSD? is there even a control panel or utility like that to manage that task?
    thank you!

There's another way to solve your problem: rather than preventing it from mounting, you could have it automatically dismount after you log in to your user account.
This might not seems as neat as not mounting it at all (after all, the system has to mount then dismount it), but it does have some advantages:
    1. It's very quick and simple to set up, and to disable at any time if you wish.
2., It means your disk is still available if you ever have to do some troubleshooting in the recovery HD or Safe Mode (say if your SSD is playing up or something).
Here's how to do it if you wish:
    1. Open the Applescript editor (click on Spotlight in the menu bar and type 'applesc' and hit 'return' on your keyboard).
    2. Copy and paste the following in the editor window:
tell application "Finder" to eject (first disk whose name starts with "Name")
    3. Replace the word "Name" with the first word of the name of your disk as it appears in the Finder sidebar (not the first word in its pathname),. E.g., in Finder sidebar, my disk is called 'Buffalo 500GB HDD', so I'd put 'Buffalo' in the script).
IMPORTANT: be sure to retain the double quotation marks "" around the name of the disk.
    4. Now let's test it. Click the 'Compile' button in the task bar and, assuming there's no errors, then 'Run'. Check in Finder sidebar that your disk has disappeared.
If you get any errors on compile or run try deleting the script and typing it by hand. Sometimes copying and pasting text over introduces buggy characters. If you type it, watch the punctuation. If you get errors and can't solve them, post back.
    5. Assuming the test works, choose 'Save as' from the Applescript File menu and in the dialogue box change 'File Format' to Application. Choose a location to save to ( /Applications is preferred ) and click the 'Save' button.
    6. Go to
 > System Preferences... Users & Groups | Login Items.
Click the '+' sign in the Login Items tab, and add your new application to the list.
    7. Restart the mac and test. The disk should dismount after the login process has finished.

  • 10.5.5 update Startup disc not mount to desktop

Since updating to 10.5.5 my startup disc (Main) does not mount on desktop or appear in finder.
Disc utility says all is normal. In fact the volume appears in sysprefs as startup volume.
I tried deleting com.apple.finder plist to no avail.
    Automatic login is disabled.
    Any other suggestions?
What about DiskWarrior or other utilities?
    TIA, John

check finder preferences general and sidebar. make sure that hard drives are set to show up in the sidebar and on the desktop. if that doesn't help, it might be the invisibility bug. check out this link

  • 2nd internal drive not mounting, melodic tones at startup

Main drive with System folder on it opens fine at startup, 2nd drive which is a 160 GB Maxtor drive will not mount, nor show up on Disk Utility. Both drives are connected correctly to a Sonnet Tempo ATA/133 card and have been working fine for over three years. Yesterday I went to startup and my computer made a melodic tone similar to a cell phone ringing. Is this an indicator that something's wrong with the drive? The computer is a 867mhz Quicksilver running OS 10.2.8. I tried a few things, I ended up disconnecting the 2nd drive from the ribbon connector & power supply and the melodic tones quit playing at startup. I tried the same ribbon connection and power supply from the dead drive on my good drive and it works fine. I can always replace a bad drive if that is the case, but I had some important video projects on the drive without a backup (lesson well learned here, ouch!). Is it possible to retrieve the data even though the drive will not mount? Any app suggestions or how do I attempt to accomplish this? Thank you!

Many hours worth of work recovered from failed drive! Cool! If anyone out there experiences what I just went through here is what I did:
The Maxtor drive wouldn't spin at startup, apparently the drive has a melodic tone that is supposed to "kickstart" the drive into spinning again when it fails. Well, it didn't do it's thing for me, so I went out and bought a Western Digital drive (supposedly a more reliable brand) with the same 160 GB capacity. I installed and partitioned it, then I installed the bad Maxtor drive in the third bay and ran another cable to my Tempo ATA card's second patch. I left the computer side door open, started up the computer and the drive started to make it's melodic tones again. I knocked on the top of the bad drive with a rubber hammer - wwrrrr, the drive took off running again! It didn't mount the first time, but after a restart it started up on it's own and mounted. What super luck! I was able to transfer all of my work onto the new drive without a hitch. I also found that is very important to read directions pertaining to the proper way to connect a jumper connector on the back of a drive when using multiple drives with an ATA card. I don't trust the Maxtor drive anymore now, so I will just pull it out of the machine. Thanks for the tips Noble B!

    With xfce4 I use .....mount /dev/sd(xx) /mnt/md...
    Setup .../mnt/md in /mnt with ..cd /mnt...mkdir /mnt/md
This will mount the flash drive.
I do not know automount for xfce4.
