I wildly guess about why, and have simply Ctrl-P again to print to Adobe PDF, and maybe half the time it works, without any changing, for example, the Photoshop image that I want converted to PDF. Sometimes, superstitiously, I reduce the res/file size and it goes through, but not always. The diagnostic tells me next to nothing, although I was a programmer for 20 years. There seems to be an Acrobat component named "Distiller," and "readstring" is failing for some reason that only one of the product programmers, or someone with similar knowledge, can understand, and the programmer does not tell me the user what to do about it.
What is the cause of the "ioerror"
The product I am using is Acrobat 6.

I do not know anything about Distiller, which I presume is a component of Acrobat 6 Professional. I would know nothing about "opening a file in Distiller." The ioerror occurs when I try to print, via ordinary means, a JPG file while in Photoshop to the printer listed as "Adobe PDF." Usually this works perfectly. When it does fail with the error log inserted into my original post, I just ctrl P again, and about half the time this works. When it does not, I make the totally uninformed guess that the JPG file may be too big, so I resize it smaller. Sometimes it then gets converted to PDF correctly, but sometimes it fails with the same "readstring" error message log. The success and failures appear haphazard, but as a former professional programmer I know that there are deterministic reasons, even if nobody ever discovers them. Debugging programs is very hard work.
Perhaps someone can suggest a means of forwarding the error message to someone in Adobe programming, who already knows what the error message should mean to me, the user.

No PDF is created. I've tried 'save as' and 'print'. I have created a PDF from this document several times before with no issues. I haven't replaced any of the screenshots in this version. Where can I find the graphic that is causing the problem? How can I solve this?
    Thanks,
    Niall.

    1. To turn "off" the graphics, simply use the esc v v shortcut (this is a toggle on/off) at the book level (no need to remove anything).
    2. Render in Error's context means, then run it again with no graphics visible (but it's obvious from the Distiller error messages that the problem is in a JPEG that can't be properly interpreted).
    3. To isolate the page containing the errant graphic, a binary search apporach means do one half at a time, i.e. the first half of the book abd then the second half, to see where the error occurs. Then split the offending half section into two-halves again and re-create the PDF until you've narrowed down to the page with the error-prone file.
However, you indicate that you're able to create the PDFs properly when printing wthout Generate Acrobat Data enabled. What is you default printer instance and which joboptions are specified?

  • Can't create PDFs - Distiller Errors

I'm running a Mac Dual Intel with 10.5.8 and CS3.  I had a problem the other day when opening a PDF file which resulted in being unable to boot up completely.  To resolve the problem I initially tried to reinstall the OS while saving users & network, which didn't work.  I was then able to create a new user and get going.  Everything is working except creating PDFs.
If I try to print to a pdf it just spools, sits for a few seconds and then stops.  If I print a .ps file and try to distill it, I get the following error message:
%%[ Error: undefinedresource; OffendingCommand: findresource ]%%
    Stack:
    /ProcSet
    /RRCustomProcs

%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
I have used the original CDs to uninstall & reinstall Acrobat 8 with no luck.  I still get the same message.  Any ideas?

I haven't moved up to OSX 10.5 yet, but I was wondering if you can do what I do in 10.4
In the Print Dialog window in the bottom left is a PDF button. Click on that and you have the option "Save PDF as Postscript". And then drop your postscript file onto Distiller.

Need Help With Adobe Distiller 9
    Hello Everyone,
    My Challenge :
    =======
I am using licensed version of Acrobat Distiller 9 for testing.
The logic converts the Excel to ps file and then ps file to pdf.
So on local (i.e my computer) it form .ps file and then I am able to conver it to pdf.Everything works fine.
But now I have setup everything on the server, on the server .ps file forms but when I try to convert it to pdf it
    gives me the following error.
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: PK    ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
It looks like the ps files get formed but somehthing is a miss. because if I try convert it to pdf manually it gives me the erorro,
From the code it just hangs.
I am using a windows applpication  and have created a servic which should run everyday to print the reports

The code sample is something like this

It references a batch conversion file that he wrote which will do what you want.
The script name is batch_convert_CS3. You'll have to copy the link and paste it into a browser window. The old links have not been reset.

  • Distiller error log, cant understand what it means

Im trying to create a postscript file from a booklet created in Pagemaker (yeah i know, but thats what they made it in!).  When I try to use distiller to create the PDF from it, im constantly getting this error...
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: get; ErrorInfo: CharOffsets  fonts/TimesNewRomanPSMT%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Im sure some font is making this not work, there is some times new roman being used on most all the pages but its just basic times new roman that i always use for everything.  I dont know what this TimesNewRomanPSMT thing is, i dont even see a font called that in the pagemaker file I have either.

An EPS file is a graphics file of the PS type. The wikipedia explanation at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encapsulated_PostScript might help.
When you say you print to a PS file, that set the fonts and stuff in place. Normally with Acrobat, you would print to the Adobe PDF printer. This printer driver creates a PS file that is tailored to PDF production and then calls Distiller to automate the conversion process to PDF. If you want to do the PS process, select print-to-file with the Adobe PDF printer. Then open that file in Distiller and see if you get the same error message. If you are printing to a PS driver and the Distilling, it is likely the setup in that driver where the font embedding and such are defined. I may have misunderstood your post, but that is my take at this point.

  • Distiller error from Indesign EPS-file

I cannot generate a pdf in distiller pro 9 from a EPS generated by Indesign CS4. The EPS is quite large (2.32GB) both in filesize as in dimension (177cm wide by 40cm)

Usually the nostringval error points to a font.  You might try replacing any fonts that appear in the EPS file.  The syntaxerror portion refers to possible data corruption but could also point to missing font elements.

  • Error: invalidfileaccess; OffendingCommand: imageDistiller

I use AcrobatPro 8 to create pdfs from a CAD program called Chief Architect.  It used to work just fine, but now whenever I try to print a CAD layout sheet with an image pasted on it (my typical image is just a black and white .tif image), Adobe will not create the pdf and I get the following error log:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
    %%[Page: 1]%%
%%[ Error: invalidfileaccess; OffendingCommand: imageDistiller ]%%
    Stack:
    -dict-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
This only happens when the CAD layout contains an image file.  If the layout has only native CAD drawings, the pdf creates just fine.  I have removed, reinstalled, and updated both the CAD program and Adobe 8 and I still get the same results.
Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance

is it happening with a particular type of image or it happens with any kind of it. which version of Acrobat 8 are you currently on? are you able to print to a phycical PS printer, if not then it is most probably not a Adobe issue.

  • Trying to print a web page results in Distiller Error

I'm trying to print the following web page to a PDF for a client
    http://unikavaev.com/price-list
however when I select "Adobe PDF" as the printer, and hit Print, it goes to save it, and isntead of creating the .pdf file, it just creates a log file with the following information:

I've tried the variuos fixes I've seen in the forums, but none have worked. This did work previously on my old install, but just recently got a new build, so this is a fresh installation of Creative Cloud with Acrobat XI.

I just tried it using Firefox and Acrobat XI without any issues -- maybe the problem is related to the browser. Have you tried printing from a different one?

    Hi,
The D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later - the latest version that is compatible with Photoshop Elements 12 is Camera Raw 8.5 as far as I can see.
You need to either buy a new version of Photoshop Elements or use the free Adobe DNG converter.

  • PDF Distiller Error

I have been trying to help my co-worker fix the below distiller error unsuccessfully for the past day.  When printing a pdf with tags and bookmarks, the pdf file gives an error in NotePad and the pdf fails to print.  I've searched some forums and have found other people with similar issues, but no answer as to how to fix this.
The really strange part is that I can print the pdf just fine from my computer, but my co-worker cannot print the same book file to pdf without the error.  I would just print the file for her, but there are several similar ones to print and they all produce the same error in the same spot.
I'm guessing there must be some setting that is different on my computer from hers, although I can't find anything set different in FrameMaker.
If anyone has any suggestions or knows how to fix, that would be awesome!

    I tried the following:
    1. Open Acrobat Distiller -> Font Settings, delete all fonts except the one with "Resource\font". Closed the dialog and reopen the Distiller. I did not see any sign that Acrobat Distiller tried to search the whole hard disk for fonts.
Please advice, Thanks! FYI, PDFCreator works well in this case.

So, the key thing here is that Distiller can't find Cambria. Distlller indeed doesn't search the whole disk for fonts - not sure why you think it would, since you have to add font directories Removing them cannot make this problem better - only worse. Try adding the specific font directory that contains Cambria.

OK, are you using IE or Firefox? The steps you are using are not clear. If it is a web site you are looking at, what is the URL so others can see if there is an issue? The error simply says it can not find the font mentioned and is using Courier instead. This is not uncommon and may just mean that your system does not have the font used on the site (like Helvetica or such). You may be able to select in the job options to create the PDF even if there is an issue with the font embedding. As I said, knowing what you are looking at would help a lot.
I am surprised you got this far with AA8 in Win7. It is nice to know what seems to work with the new OS. You might want to update. AA8 is currently at AA8.1.7.
