Do not disconnect....Do not disconnect...Cant see ipod in ITunes

I am a rookie at this whole ipod thing...Here goes...I have downloaded about 500 songs so far on my 30gig ipod and now when I go to plug into the USB port all I fricken get is "Do not disconnect"...but hold on...I also cant see my ipod anywhere on the itunes "dock" or whatever you call it.
Does anyone have any suggestion...much appreciated...And since I can't see my ipod I also can't download or do anything with it really

I had that happen to me the very first time I tried using it. But I reset the Ipod, then connected it and Itunes was able to find it.
I'm not sure if that is your problem, but have you tried that?
I'm a novice myself, trying to learn all I can as I recieved the Ipod for christmas, and am still learning.
I need to learn how to get my music videos from DVD onto my Ipod.

first of all, no one is going to respond to this becuase limewire is used basically in your situation illegally. But let's say you import a cd, left click on the songs you imported and hit get album artwork, if nothing comes up, the album sn't in the itunes database, get it online. And I suggest never to mention limewire and music files on the same post here, since limewire is a file sharing program. Use Itunes, it's easier. theo

There are 3rd party utilities available that "rip" content into a compatible format - most include an iPod and/or iPhone format selection. If a video plays in iTunes, iTunes includes an option to convert a selection for iPod/iPhone.

Help! -Itunes wont sync, Set-Up Assistant pops up, Cant see iPod contents..

I have several problems happening at once - please help if you can!
When I connect to iTunes, my iPod starts to sync, but then I get an error message "Cannot synchronize ----'s iPod. Unknown Error (-48)"
It then jumps straight to the Set Up Assistant, as if its the first time I've connected my iPod! (I've had it for a year now). I'm too scared to go through that option in case it wipes the music/video off my iPod.
After all this, my iPod's name Imine) is actually visible in the left side panel of iTunes - BUT, i cant see any of the contents ie songs, video etc.
Funny thing is, I can still load songs & video onto the iPod, and it synchronizes and saves. But, I just cant see anything thats on the iPod (meaning I cant edit or delete, which is annoying), as iTunes only recognizes it as a brand new ipod.
So, what can I do?
I've tried to reset the Ipod, and reloaded iTunes. I've even used an earlier version of iTunes on a different computer and the exact same thing happens there (which leads me to believe somehting happened to the iPod).
I dont want to restore the iPod - I have nearly filled the 160GB capacity and I simply cannot back it up anywhere as no computer i have has enough memory and all my original music is overseas at home.
Why is itunes not recognising the ipod, but it still saves data on it??? How can I bypass the Set Up assistant?? (its irritating).

I am also having the same problem. This is my second ipod (I've added a shuffle and already had a nano). The nano works fine. When I connect the shuffle, it is grayed out in the left pane. The main view only shows two tabs, Settings and Contents. It doesn't seem to matter how I have the syncing setup.

Cant see iphone in itunes after the most resent itunes update

After updating itunes I downloaded the new iphone IOS. After connecting my phone, an error msg could not update iphone. Now my phone has the connect to itunes screen and will not come off regardless of what i do. I cant see it on the computer or itunes now. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and a number of other things on the apple website, no joy. To me it sounds like a software problem to me, but i dont know. Does anybody have ANYTHING else?

I had the same problem yesterday and called Apple Support and was walked through uninstalling iTunes (I had just gotten the latest update to it) and reinstalling it. My computer (Windows Vista) did not recognize the phone and would not sync. I powered down my computer, took it home, powered it up and plugged in my iPhone 4 with a different sync cable and it worked. The computer found an Apple driver that it couldn't find with the other cable. The defective cable will still charge my iPhone 4, but it will not sync. I have used that same cable since October, and it is the original shipped with the product. Go figure. I have not yet updated to iOS 4.3 and am going to wait a bit.

Corrution/inability to see iPod in iTunes - how do I restore without iTunes

When I connect my iPod (4th Gen) to my Mac, iTunes immediately says there is corruption and it needs to be restored. It was working fine last time I connected, but heh.
All right, fine, but I can't even select the iPod in iTunes, let alone restore it. My iPod always drops out of the source list (unmounts) whenever I click the OK button on the warning, leaving me no opportunity to get to the Restore function.

However, I can't even reach the iPod's tabs in iTunes, therefore I can't reach the Restore command. It stays mounted long enough to spew error messages, but automatically unmounts as soon as I dismiss the error messages.
Can I restore/reset/reformat the iPod without access to iTunes? I have nothing on it that cant be recovered.

HT203175 I don't know whether these articles apply or not. Here's what I seeing in my iTunes program. When I open iTunes, I see little exclamation points next to EVERY song that has been downloaded. Therefore, I can't play them from my computer or dwnl

Can somebody help me get rid of these exclamation points so that I can download all my songs to my iPod? Please? I don't know why they appeared, as I did have the songs working before and they were on my iPod. But, I didn't want ALL of them on there and I didn't know I could "select" which songs to send to the iPod. However, it's been a few months since I messed with it. But, yesterday, when I went to select my songs, I noticed all these excalamation points on everything that was there. Help, please! Again, I can't play them from my computer AND they won't download to my iPod!

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

I have a brand new ipod nano...less than a week old. Worked fine until yesterday...it locked up, then I lost all of my music. When I tried to connect to itunes...it doesnt show up in itunes when connected. When I disconnect, it says it needs to restore to factory settings. Which would be fine...but it locks up itunes and I cant do anything. Does any one have any suggestions. I am not very happy at this point. I am curretnly using windows Vista and the latest version of Itunes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes to see if that would help and it didnt. So, I am at a loss. Please help.

Okay...got mine working...here is what i did....uninstalled and reinstalled both Itunes and quicktime on my computer. Still wouldnt work, still locked up my computer. I found another computer that had an older version of itunes on it...connected my ipod to it, and it finally restored my ipod settings. Took it home to connect it to mine, and it worked. Hope this helps anyone else out...Especially since this seems to be a reoccurring problem that Apple isnt taking care of. good luck

Deleted files are not actually gone and still appear in iPod outside iTunes

I have a 60 GB Video iPod: When I deleted around 70 Podcast files (mp4) from my iPod using the new iTunes (7.0) they weren't actually deleted. In iTunes it reads that the mp4s no longer exist, but when I disconnect my iPod from the computer the mp4s are still availble on the iPod to play (they were never actually deleted). According to iTunes the files no longer exist; but that isn't the case, because the files DO exist and are still on my iPod. iTunes, for some reason, can't read that the files are still there: Right before I originally deleted the files I had 17.52 GB available, and it still reads that I have 17.52 GB availble; deleting those Podcasts should have freed up an extra 3.78 GB... so, even with iTunes not reading the Podcasts anywhere, iTunes still has the free space at 17.52 GB: How do I find the Podcasts, since they were NEVER deleted, even though iTunes seems to be unable to locate the them? And how do I delete them for sure? Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm having the exact same problem and I took my iPod to the Genius Bar this morning. They re-formatted it and re-loaded it. I took it home and the same darn thing just happened again.
