Do you recommend an extended warranty

Hi,
I just purchased the following laptop en eBay for $239.00:
[Apple iBook G4 12.1"/1.33GHz/512MB/40G/CM/APX M9850LL/A|http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-iBook-G4-12-1-1-33GHz-512MB-40G-CM-APX-M985 0LL-AW0QQitemZ120500665948QQcmdZViewItemQQptZApple_Laptops?hash=item1c0e663e5c#ht_400 4wt988]
The total came out to $316.00 including taxes, shipping and 1 gig of memory I purchased from OWC.
Do you recommend purchasing an extended warranty from [Squaretrade.com|http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/email-landing5?ccode=bswar_adword036:keyword&gclid=CJmtqtWf4Z4CFRQhDQodZyBjOQ] to cover the laptop?
The price is $40.00 for one year or $60.00 for two years.

aigoosung:
Glad you had a good experience with your iBook G4. If you type in "logic board" in the search field in this forum you will find that the iBook series, both G3 and G4, has had significant logic board issues. The logic board is expensive to repair/replace. Thus my suggestion that it might be worth getting the extended warranty if it covered everything and did not have excessive copays or deductibles. That is not to say that all iBooks have logic board issues, but it was enough of an issue that Apple had a recall on the logic board early in the history of the iBook, and the Danish government sued Apple on the issue. Otherwise I would not normally recommend and extended warranty. I have never purchased one myself, but I have never purchased an iBook.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

  • FREE Extended warranty offered by Motorola

Recently my Motorola Droid XT 926 went dead. Verizon (on line customer support) and my local Verizon store both told me the only thing that could be done was to buy a new phone for $499, since my 2 year contract was not yet completed to be eligible for an upgrade. They did not offer any type of "discounted" replacement. Rather than spend the money, I took it to a local cell phone repair center (called CPR) located in St Pete, Florida. The manager there confirmed my suspicion that the battery was in fact dead, just a few months beyond the 12 month warranty offered by Verizon. Upon checking with Motorola, he informed me that in fact Motorola offers an additional 12 month warranty on many of their phones, but the general public is unaware of. When I returned to my Verizon Store and brought this to their attention, I was told that they had no knowledge of such a program and that "Corporate" had not informed them of any such program! Wonder why? Obviously to take advantage of unsuspecting customers and suck them into paying $499 for a replacement phone! I contacted Motorola with the information given me by the manager of Cell Phone Repair and sure enough they do offer it. So rather than have to buy a new phone through Verizon ($499), Motorola agreed to either repair or replace my existing one, with a turn around time of 5-7 days totally FREE! They even offer Free shipping to and from! One would think the sales staff at Verizon (being the largest retailer in the country for cell phones) would be aware of this and offer this information to their customers. I have spent over $37,000 with Verizon during the past 10 years and this is the type of service a loyal customer gets from Verizon! So, thanks to a small local retailer (CPR, St Pete, FL) and Motorola, my problem was resolved professionally and in a quick manner. I rate both of them A+! No thanks to Verizon (their on-line chat support, their phone support, nor the Store personnel)! I give all of them an F! Hats off to CPR & Motorola! Verizon, your coverage may be the best, but your customer support and sales staff are terrible!

The warranty covers for manufacturer's defects beyond the one year given by the device manufacturer.  So if the charge port is not working because it is loose or otherwise damaged, that isn't covered because it is not a manufacturing defect. In that case, you would file an insurance claim if you have the insurance other than just the extended warranty.
In any case, I would check local electronics repair places to see if you can get the charging port replaced at a reasonable price.  I would look at reviews for these types of repair places, also, and ask around.  I have a place locally with a great reputation and super fast service, and they replaced a tablet charging port for around $60 for the parts and labor.  If the phone is otherwise in good condition, that would probably be the best option.  Then you cancel the extended warranty, because once something is replaced with an after market part, the warranty is void anyway.  Hope this helps!

  • Macbook extended warranty?

I didn't get the extended warranty when I got my macbook a couple months back. I was planning on getting it later before it ends. I heard doing this I'd have to let the store I buy the plan from keep my macbook for a little while to check it out to make sure nothings wrong with it and I'm not just getting the extended warranty because I know somethings wrong. it would make sense if they did this yet at the same time it doesn't because as far as I know you have to get it before the intial warranty is up, so if you got it in that time why would you need an extended warranty to take care of it if the original is still active.
does anyone know if this is true?

The only problem with this is that Apple will not
talk to you on the phone about problems with your
MacBook 90 days after purchasing it. You'll have to
pay a $49 per-incident fee, or buy AppleCare.
As another poster pointed out, that fee is waived if it's a hardware problem. Furthermore, even if you pay that several times, at $137 for five years total coverage from VISA, you're still going to be ahead. The best way to get service when you're covered by VISA is simply to take it to an Apple service provider and get them to fix it or send it to Apple.
Another great thing about VISA performance guarantee is that they have a no lemo policy. if the repair costs more than 70% (not entirely sure about the percentage) of the original purchase price they'll give you a new one. Same thing if it needs repair for the same issue more than three times. They're also always on your side and won't argue with you. Fast and great service has been the norm since I started using this service three years ago.

  • W500 Extended Warranty

I am thinking about purchasing a  Lenovo ThinkPlus - Extended service agreement - parts and labor - 3 years - on-site - 9x5 - NBD P/N 41C9176.  As I just ordered a W500 from the Lenovo Outlet store, with a 1 Year warranty.  How close to end of the current 1 year ( or if it was a 3 year warranty), would one have to wait, before extending the warranty for 3 more years?

Somewhere on the Lenovo Support web site, there is a web application that takes your machine's serial number and retrieves the original warranty start and expiry dates. Once you purchase the extended warranty, the warranty period is extended from the original warranty start date, and the web application will display an addition field showing that the machine is under an extended warranty and display the expiry date of that warranty as well. If you sell the machine during that period, the extended warranty is still valid, it's attached to the machine, not the person who bought it.
I would definitely get some level of extended warranty for the longest period you think you will be using the notebook; I have the "EasyServ" depot 5 year international warranty to sometime in mid-2013, and when the discrete graphics had trouble, I received my repaired machine 2 days after dropping it off in the packaging that Lenovo couriered to me after determining that a repair was the only solution (it helps that I live in a city that has a Flextronics repair facility, which is where Lenovo does its warranty repairs, but the basic depot service should be quite fast no matter where you are, once the machine arrives there, since in most cases the repair parts are already there or on order).

  • IPod Battery under extended warranty

Can someone tell me if you have the extended warranty for the iPod, the battery replacement is covered. I can't find that option. I can only find an out of warranty replacement for a fee.

Thanks, But do I need to call, because there is no replace the battery for under warranty option in the iPod service website.

  • If you buy an IPad online would it have an Apple warranty and can you get extended warranty from Apple

If you buy an iPad online would it have an Apple warranty. Can you get extended warranty?

If you buy it from the Apple Online store yes it will have full 1 year warranty, and the possibility to directly buy Apple Care +.
If you buy it from somewhere else, it may not. If the online seller is not an Apple authorized reseller then you may need to take to to an Apple Store for physical inspection before purchasing the Apple Care Plus extension.
If its not sealed and new, the warranty timer may have started to elapse, and it may not be eligible for Apple Care +.
But without knowing where you plan to buy it its hard to say for sure.

  • Can you transfer extended warranty when you sell an ipad?

Does anyone know if you can transfer an extended warranty to the new owner when you sell an ipad?

Is the AppleCare Protection Plan transferable?
Yes. If you choose to sell or give away your Apple product, you can also transfer the ownership of the AppleCare Protection Plan. Please see the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms and Conditions for complete details.

  • I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

I can't get a signal through whole house because of a brick wall   What range extender do you recommend to be used with my wireless router ( apple brand)

Very few 3rd party wireless extenders will work with an Apple router, so your best bet is always to use an extender that is the same brand as the main router. An AirPort Express is a popular choice for this type of application with another Apple router.
If you had a Cisco router, then a Cisco extender would be your best bet.  Same for Netgear, etc.
But......a wireless extender can only "extend" the quality of wireless signal that it receives, and not much of a wireless signal is going to make it through a brick wall, so whether any extender might do what you want is open to question.
You won't know whether an extender using wireless to connect will work to your satisfaction in your home until you actually try it out in your home.
The performance will always be much better if you can connect the extending device back to the main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection.
If it is not possible to run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet power line adapters might be able to send the signal over the existing AC power lines in your home. The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.
In practice though, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you decide to try a pair of adapters, it might be a good idea to understand the store's return policies before you buy.

  • Extended warranty for Satellite A300-15C

    Hi
I am new here so sorry if I posted it under wrong thread.
I want to buy extended warranty for Satellite A300-15C (1+1 standard warranty) so I wanna ask which warranty package gives the longest protection for this model.
2+2 is the longest? ID: SE5054I-PDB.
Secondly, and more importantly, the laptop is more than 1 year old. When i was buying it, in retail store they told me that the extended warranty can be activated at any time, but now I see that there is this 30 days deadline policy. Is there any way how to overcome?
    Thanks

  • Flex 2 14 - Extended Warranty

    Hi,
I purchased a Flex 2 14 laptop in July 2014 during a promotional period in India where an additional extended warranty for 2 years was being provided on this machine.
Now trying to get that additional warranty has become an absolute pain where i seem to be going around in circles. The status for the same being that the extended warranty would be provided within 21 days post validation of documents, I would like to paste the communication that has been ongoing with Lenovo Support team for the same. I have highlighted the statements below for reference. The email sent by the Lenovo Team on 3rd September states that my crednetials have been verified successfully on August 19th and that i would receive the extended warranty within 21 days. After waiting for 21 days and nore i sent the Lenovo team an email again requesting them fr the status and the respone that i reeived from Lenovo Team on September 12th stating that my documents had been sent to Verification team and it is waiting approval. You can clearly see from these mails that it is not being driven to a conclusion.

You can clearly see that i am being sent around in circles on this topic. It really scares me that if this is the case with just getting the Additional warranty in place what would actually happen if i ever had an actual problem with the laptop.
I hope someone from Lenovo will look into this concern and help.

I dont think a display model is a good buy, no matter how cheap it is.
Every now and then I come across non-functioning display models. My advice would be to return it and buy it new.
You could try contacting warranty services but I won't recommend that. A display model can have deep inherited problems since there are so many people who access it and use it without care.

  • Best Buy Extended Warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on

My daughter bought me an iPad 3, when it first came out, for Mother's Day.  She was talked into buying the Best Buy Warranty instead of the Apple warranty.  For the past 3 months I've been having nothing but trouble with my iPad so my daughter said I needed to hurry to Best Buy before the expensive extended warranty runs out.
I went to the Best Buy on 62nd and Broadway (NYC) and, after waiting and hitting the counter a couple of times, was able to speak to a tech.  I use the title tech loosely here.
He first said that my problems were a result of the new software update, then it was too many apps, next it was "Hey, after two year the battery is going to be slow".  So, essentially, it will lock up, freeze, shut itself off, need to be charged twice as much as it used to and be unresponsive to my finger tough (as well as my stylus).  He himself saw the issue as he would have to swipe a number of times to clear the screens - so he ran the "Geek Squad Triage App".  According to my app, the ipad is fine.
So now, after an hour of watching him just move screens and open apps, and putting my entire iPad back to factory default, I was told "Oh well, we can't do anything at all unless we see the issue happen in front of us."  "You have to recreate the problem and then we will take it and send it away for repairs."
This was NOT what my daughter was told would happen - she was assured that if there were a problem, and they could not fix it there, they would take the iPad and replace it with a refurbished iPad - which APPLE would have done.  They need to do some honest advertising - you will have to bring the iPad to us, we'll stare blankly at it for awhile, we'll reset it, we'll open and close apps and then send you home saying good luck.
I am beyond furious and intend to file complaints with the store, the Geek Squad Co., the BBB and, just to be certain that people are not taken advantage of again - as my daughter was - at every location I can find that asks which Warranty to choose, or allows me to review this warranty.
Shame on you Best Buy and Shame on you Geek Squad - you've taken advantage of a young person, not to mention a wounded veteran, to make a couple of dollars more off of her.  She is absolutely heartsick that this happened - and I could not be more angry if I tried.
Up until now I've always went to Best Buy for all of my electronics, my TV, my Computer, my Laptops - but after this I cannot justify going there again.
Stay away from any Extended Warranties or Geek Squad members at Best Buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Ftrainryder,
I’m sure if I had received such a nice gift, like an iPad with Geek Squad Protection (GSP), I would also be angered after being turned away when trying to receive service. Please pass my apologies onto your daughter if she feels that she was misled when purchasing the GSP for your iPad.
The information she was given about the protection plan is correct. This being said, the Geek Squad agent should have sent your iPad out for service if he was experiencing the same issues as you had described. I am so very sorry that you didn’t receive that option.
The agents are supposed to do what they can to replicate the problem our customers are experiencing with their products before sending anything out. It sounds as though he spent a healthy amount of time troubleshooting with you and testing your device. The Geek Squad app is a good tool that both employees and customers can use to test the widespread functions of our mobile devices. The issues that he spoke of can happen; however, they generally aren’t issues you will always experience after owning a device for an extended period of time.
I would like reach out to the store leadership at the Upper West Side (Store 1448) about your recent visit. As such, I’ll be sending you a private message to get some more details from your interaction with the agent. • How to register the Extended Warranty in Finland

    Hello
I recently bought a Toshiba laptop with the extended warranty. When I registered the laptop there was a message that I should send copy of the receipt by e-mail. I accidentaly clicked the message away and forgot what the e-mail address was.
Could not find it on your website so can you give it to me?

    Hi Aki
This was just a reminder you can still register your notebook or purchase an additional the extended warranty on the Toshiba pages.

  • How many times can I extend warranty (Thinkplus Extended Service Agreement)?

I have a T60, which came with an original 3-year warranty. Before the warranty expired in August 2009, I purchased Thinkplus extended service for 1 year (41C9279) for $199, which expires in August 2010. Can I purchase additional Thinkplus extended service for 1-2 more years before the August 2010 expiry date?
Lenovo still offers 1 and 2-year post-warranty services for my T60 (2007-C2U model), as this link states:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=TPAD-PWMA
But I read somewhere that the warranty can only be extended once. Does that mean I cannot purchase more extended service agreements? And if I can, does the Thinkplus extended service also apply internationally, if the original warranty was eligible for international warranty?
    Thanks

Model 2007 is pretty well-covered when it comes to IWS, but without knowing what country exactly you're planning on travelling or moving to, it's tough to say.
    Here's the list, though:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/warrantyLookup.do?type=2007&iws=on&sitestyle=lenovo
As for extending warranty for another year, give Lenovo a call and check first hand. The rule of the thumb is that the machine can't be under warranty for longer than five years of the original purchase date, at least to my knowledge.
    Hope this helps.

I bought a brand new Mac 27" desktop that came loaded with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the hard drive, 1Tb, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new one as I had extended warranty with them. They recycled the drive immediately (like a fool I didn't ask for it back to get the data off it.) But luckily I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it worked great except I downloaded it to the desktop and not the original location so it got squirrely. I also have an external 1.5Tb drive that I wanted to make bootable so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3 . I then went ahead and installed it on the newly installed drive too.
I think that because I have a new drive Adobe thinks I have a news computer. I bought the 27" Mac brand new from Ebay and it came loaded with software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6 but Adobe said it wasn't valid. (I have owned CS2, CS4 and now CS6 which came preloaded onto the Mac by the seller who told me that the software was registered to the Mac???
I am going to re-download the backup but this time to the original location (I still don't think it will work with Adobe. What can I do about this?
