Dock connection failing 11 days out of warranty!!!!!!

My dock connection is failing. I bought an FM transmitter and the speakers in my car cut in and out. My sister's Ipod works fine in the same transmitter. My ipod is 11 days out of warranty. Is there anything I can do? I can't believe they won't do anything for me 11 days out of warranty. This is my 3rd ipod I have had to return. They claim it will cost 130.00 to fix. Is there anyway I can replace the dock myself? Thank you.

Hi Terry,
I would suggest trying the following to at least get you up and running with an operating system.
Before trying this, make sure you can still read the 25 alpha/numeric code from the Windows COA label underneath your notebook.  As long as you can, carry on with the procedure below.
First, use another PC to create a Retail Windows 7 installation disc yourself  - you must download the correct version, ie if your notebook originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact version you would need to download.
Download the correct Disc Image from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here.
Provided this works OK, you may well find you will be able to retrieve files from the failed HDD using the external caddy.
Regards,
DP-K

  • 'Dead' spot on ipod touch screen - 103 days out of warranty - any ideas?

There is a section of the screen that is 'dead' and it is where the cancel & ok buttons are - this means that I can't play games properly and can't download apps etc as I can't touch ok. I went to the genius bar and they said it was 103 days out of warranty so buy a new one or live with it! Have done the 5 Rs, no joy so it is hardware. Surely it is reasonable to expect that a product doesn't break down in this way after just 18 months? Is there any consumer legislation that can help me get it fixed / replaced? Thanks for any help.

I feel your pain. My 1st generation Touch lost Wi-Fi three weeks after the warranty expired. Apple said, "hardware failure" and told me they'd replace it with the same model for $129 or I could buy a new one. It cost $400 when new! I think it should last longer than a year and three weeks. I purchased the Touch on a credit card that has an extended warranty program. I'm working with the credit card company to replace the failed iPod.

  • "Connection Failed" to server, out of the blue

Starting mid-yesterday and through to today I’ve had three users me ask why they can no longer connect to the server via Finder.
It appears that users, even though they enter the correct username and password, get a ‘connection failed’ message when they hit enter. However accessing the shared volumes on the server still works via Go > Connect to Server.
It seems non-admin users are the only ones affected, with the pefadmin account as well as mine having no issues logging on, however when I tried to log on as a rather important user for instance, I get the same error, meaning there is something wrong on the server.
This is puzzling as I have stayed well clear of groups and permissions for fear of something like this happening, however it has and I’m reluctant to go in changing permissions etc. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this?
The networking is an all Mac environment, the user computers are iMacs running 10.6.6. The server is 10.5.8.
    To sum up:
    No issues two days ago.
Yesterday some users could not access files.
    Issue persists today.
No change in configuration through whole time period.

Open iTunes and click on Music Store in the source list then scroll down the pane. Unless the Windows layout is different, it should be right at the bottom of the page.

  • Ipad update failed, says network connection failed or timed out, but have good coverage, tried several times

Been trying to update my ipad, and it keeps failing. the screen message I get says network failed ot timed out. Have no problem with internet coverage. Have tried on several occasions now.

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    Then restart the device.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • 8330 freezes up - 14 days out of warranty!

Has anyone come up with a solution other than popping the battery a dozen times a day?
I'd toss the thing except I'm locked into a wretched contract (NEVER again!)
    Would appreciate your assistance.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!!
I'd treat it much the same as an "uncaught exception:
There's pretty much no diagnosing those -- they are the equivalent of the random errors in Windows for which tracing the root cause is fruitless. Basically, these are the last out in the programming code -- some event occurred for which there is no handler in the code. The fix is a code update that handles the event...but, again, knowing what the event is is pretty much impossible. So, there are a few things to try:
Sometimes, the code simply becomes corrupt and needs to be refreshed -- just like a reboot:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
There might be an updated code set from the carrier -- check them via this portal:
     http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
The toughest possible cause is a badly behaving app. To find it, one must remove apps one at a time, waiting a while in between (I usually recommend a week), until the problem ceases...thereby discovering the offending app.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Lenovo Edge E530 dead 20 days out of warranty

Customer has just returned an Edge E530 which is dead, light by power socket is lit, tried removin battery, holding down power button, tried new PSU, tried removing bios battery all to no avail.
I think this is disgusting that they only last 385 days.

    Bumping this for help. Please!

  • Optical drive on iMac at work, barely one year old, won't read CD's....disc utilities shows disc unavailable!  Rarely used and out of warranty, what a rip off!!  I have been on MACS since the 80's and things are getting more and more difficult

Optical drive on iMac at work, barely one year old, won't read CD's....disc utilities shows disc unavailable!  Rarely used and out of warranty, what a rip off!!  I have been on MACS since the 80's and things are getting more and more difficult to deal with. Why did it quit after barely being used? Any help from Apple?

It depends on what you mean by "barely one year old". If the iMac is only a couple of days out of warranty, Apple's been known to make exceptions and extend the warranty, though it's by no means guaranteed. If it's several days or more out of warranty, then Apple will fix it, if it's a hardware problem, but the repair won't be free. This is no different now then it would have been with a Mac purchased back in the 80s.
Why the drive failed, if indeed it has, is impossible to say. Could have been a static shock, a weak component that failed when power was applied, or a mechanical fault in one of the tiny parts used in optical drives and hard drives that finally broke.
    Regards.

  • My button has stopped working and Apple refuse to fix it. This started happening 9 months after purchase. Product now out of warranty, but the fault is common.

    Hi Apple users,
A few months ago my iPhone 4 button stopped working and has made my phone unusable. Most of my friends that have had iPhones for about a year have a similar fault.
I recently contacted Apple to discuss this and ask how to fix it. They said that it would cost £140 as it is 1 day out of warranty. I should have called a few weeks ago.
As it is known that the fault happens gradually over a period of weeks, I fail to understand how that is not an issue Apple would like to chase up and fix. So, Apple, if this is common, then your design is faulty. I will no longer recommend iPhone to friends.
If anyone else has had a similar experience, do please post your comments here. I'm now chasing up apple to find out if it really does cost £140 to repair something that is broken due to a manufacturing fault.
    E

I don't believe it is as common as you believe it is, I've only known one person with a defective home button (and I know many people with iPhones) and she took it in and had it replaced under warranty.
Did you take your phone in to an Apple Store or did you call? Either way, make a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple Store and ask to talk to the manager and explain your situation calmly. If that fails, call AppleCare and ask to be transferred to customer service. Again, discuss it calmly.

  • Ipad network connection failed

My ipad has been extremley slow latley and whenever I open the internet or when its plugged into itunes it says either network connection failed or timed out. AND my wifi is on. Also my home button has been very sketchy lately. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
    Restart the iPad.

Probably a good idea to get that repaired. If you just purchased this iPad you have 14 days from purchase for an exchange or refund.

  • Dead hard drive just out of warranty

Does HP really not stand behind their products?  My hard drive has failed two months out of warranty and their customer support has been no help in resolving the issue other than trying to get more of my hard earned money out of me.  Anyone else have this problem?   Any suggestions, I'm not sure it makes sense to put more money into this product.

Yes if you can get your hands on a Windows 7 disk.
    Here is the Service Manual:

This is a great deal on a 500 gb 7200 rpm hybrid drive...it has a built-in solid state drive so runs a bit faster than a standard hard drive.  $80 shipped.

  • IPad not detected by computer. Not charging. I'm pretty sure its the dock connection inside the actual iPad, and there is nothing that apple will do because it messed up literally messed up 3 days after my warranty was up. Anything I can do?

My iPad has been messed up for quite a while now. It won't charge correctly. It's not detected by my computer. I'm pretty sure its the dock connection. Apple won't do anything because my warranty was up literally 3 days before I noticed the problem. Should I just send to to someone who works on iPads and hope for the best? Is there anything else I can do? It woudn't bug me if I already had iOS 5 installed but alas, I do not. I just got an iPhone and want to enjoy the benefits of iCloud. Also I can't update Pages because it requires iOS 5 and that's super annoying.

Further to my last, I am just asking for that check as a double precaution.
You stated originally that your IPad "won't charge correctly". Can you be more explicit?
Is there any charge in it at all? What does the indicator say? If the battery is completely drained then it might take 20 minutes or more to indicate that it is charging. At the end of the day, you could have a virtually drained battery which is one problem and also the unfortunate experience of an iPad not being detected by iTunes for a completely different reason altogether. (Hope you get this post before replying to my last.)

  • Failing dock connection?

This problem seems obvious enough, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask around and see if there are people out there with similar experiences.
I have a 80GB iPod Classic. It gets connected and disconnected to a dock connection multiple times a day: Syncing podcasts twice a day, using it as a portable HD, and plugging and unplugging from my car stereo (Alpine iDXA100). Obviously, this is going to put some wear on the connection, but I wouldn't think it'd be enough to warrant the current symptoms:
    • Whether it's the iPod dock at home or a regular iPod cable at work or on the go, I have to pinch the cable (and I've tried multiple ones) or hold the iPod in the dock just right for it to not immediately disconnect from the machine(s). Often, I'll get a warning that I only have the speed of a USB 1.0 connection when I know it's a 2.0. Sometime I do get full speed, and sometimes I don't.
    • Thankfully, I've never had a problem with connecting to my stereo. I spent the extra $20 or so for the "high-speed iPod cable" for the system, and it seems to have paid off in scroll speed on the head unit and connection reliability.
It's this second point that makes me hold back from taking it in. Do you think this is a cable-quality issue, as in the connector on the cable itself, not the iPod, is at fault, or is it just that the Alpine cable was made with a greater tolerance?
I've tried the dock and computer cables with other people's iPods and they seem ok, so there may be a combination of issues here. What can the collective experience of Apple Forums tell me about this situation, hmm?

I have the same IPod and the same problem. I've bought numerous connectors with limited results. Near as I can tell the plug in port on the IPod needs service.
Has anyone else had theirs serviced?? If so, what was the cost?

  • HT5479 My brand new ipod nano is no longer connedting to my brand new jbl wireless speaker. It worked fine the first day and now either cannot find the apeaker or the connection "fails."  Any advice?

I bought my dad a new ipod nano and a jbl wireless speaker from the same apple store. Everything worked perfectly with the bluetooth connectivity the first day. Then my dad accidentally hit the "forget this device" button when he was trying to turn the bluetooth off. Now the nano either does not recognize the device or it will recognize the device but not connect. I would appreciate any advice.

Does it charge on a computer? Does it appear in iTunes?
    If so:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

My 5S just started doing this on Thursday: every fraction of a second or so it oscillates between connecting and disconnecting with the charger (USB or wall, doesn't matter). Since it's still under the limited warrantee, I took it to the local Mac dealer (I live in a small town w/out an Apple store) and they shipped it off. I'm waiting now for the replacement--telephonless, too!
What concerns me is that many people seem to be having this issue.
You were right to be suspicious of the Apple store employees. Once they replicated the behavior that you experienced, they should have immediatly offered to exchange your phone. Anything else, in my opinion, is unacceptable. As long as your phone is still doing it, I'd go back, ask for the manager and tell them to exchange your phone.

  • Vehicle Dock connect with line out exist?

    Mornin' all,
I have a 3G 40G iPod that has a Griffin Airclick Wireless remote occupying the top connections so the earphone output is 'taken'. What I'm looking for is a product that has a dock connection on the bottom that can charge and specifically has a 'Line Out' much like the home dock, but this one needs to work in a vehicle. Does anyone know if such a product is made, or a possible work around?
    Thanks a bunch...

You may want to look at reviews online.
Also, why don't you want to use a dock?
