Docking station - port replicator

Hi,
I am considering purchasing an IdeaPad U350.  Which docking station or port replicator works with it?
Thanks.
Larry  H

I'd think any USB port replicator would work Larry.  I'm using a Kensington SD100 with my U350 with no problems.  --RH

  • M6800 disables internal NIC when "docked" in Port Replicator

When I "dock" my new Dell Precision M6800 laptop (i.e. place into a Port Replicator - either a Dell PR02X or PR03X - neither one works), the internal NIC is disabled and the only network connection available is through the wireless adapter. When not using the port replicator, the wireless adapter is turned off by the 'system' and the Ethernet LAN is connected as expected.
Both port replicators work fine with a different laptop (model M4600) and the M6800 connects properly when not using the port replicator. If I turn the wireless switch off and power up, I have no LAN connection at all.
I have downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/precision-m6800-workstation
I have "Local Area Connection" above the Wireless adapter in "Adapters and Bindings"
I have also disabled all Power Management settings on the Ethernet Adapter.
    System: Dell Precision M6800, Windows 7 Pro SP1 (64-bit), Intel Ethernet Connection I217-LM, Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260, ...

Not sure if it applies to someone else, but I came upon this forum searching for a solution about my ethernet issues with the PR02x. (Ethernet port not working when connected to docking station)
Solution: Check the power supply of the docking station to see if it's comparable to the one supplied with the machine (12.3A @ 19.5 V Output). I replaced the power brick/adapter for the docking station and it works now.
Other solutions that I saw on another forum is adjusting the power management options for allowing it to turn off to save power or switching out the PR02x for the PR03x.
If I connected the ethernet cable directly to the back of the laptop, it would work. If I docked the laptop into a port replicator (with the same ethernet cable), it would only work on wifi only (wireless connection). If I connected the M6600 into the same port replicator, it would work with the ethernet connection (not wifi only).

  • T60 USB ports when in a 2504 docking station

Thinking about getting a 2504 docking station for my T60.  If the T60 is docked can the T60 USB ports be used or can only the docking station ports be used?

All USB ports can be used while docked.

  • Not Getting "Undock" Option in Windows 7 with W520 in Docking Station

I just bought a W520 which is my 5th ThinkPad in about 10 years.  This one is different in that I don't get the option to "Undock" in the Windows 7 "Shutdown" option list.  I also noticed the W520 doesn't seat as securely into the docking station as my prior ThinkPads, but the docking station ports all work correctly.
Is there something wrong with my hardware or Windows 7 settings?

    Hi all
I guess, this article would help
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/94468d2b-4ae8-4228-90a6-2c5ae...
If the undock option is not available, you could just put your laptop into sleep mode (or simply close the lid by default) and just undock the docking station from it. Resuming from sleep mode does not take much time either.
    Have a nice day!

  • Does iPhone 4 work with the Creative X-30 Docking Station?

    Dear Forum Users,
I have been shopping for new computer speakers and a docking station for my iPhone 4. I decided to get Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II speakers, and just found that it includes an "iPod Docking Station" port to connect the Creative X-30 Docking Station.
The X-30 dock is quite unique in that it includes S-Video, Composite Video, Line In, USB ports, as well as speaker connections. See the Creative website for details:
    http://sg.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=13&subcategory=58&product=1 7507&listby=
The X-30 dock was designed for use with iPod and iPod Touch, and supports a large range on them. I'm wondering if the X-30 dock will work with my iPhone 4. The reason why I'd prefer this dock over the Apple one is that it has many more features!
It'd be great if all features worked, but fundamentally it must allow sync with iTunes, and audio output.
Thanks anyone for your comments! This product was not sold in the America's, so I have not been able to find or test it out myself.
    Bryce

It will probably work, but if the product does not include the "made for iPhone" certification, you will get the warning message indicating the docking station is not compatible with the iPhone when connected and do you want to enable Airplane Mode. If so and Airplane mode is not enabled, this may result in "GSM buzz" with the speakers.
The manufacturer should have a contact link to confirm if this product will work with and is recommended for the iPhone. The "made for iPhone" certification is supposed to ensure this.

  • Don't want the phone to go to sleep after plugging it into the docking station

When I plug the phone into the docking station it switches into to the sleep mode immediately: the screen goes black. This is not what I want to happen. In fact, I have a loader which uses the docking station port in the car. So, when I put the phone into the holder it goes to sleep, so each time I have to switch the screen on immediately. This is tedious. Such a behaviour is inconcvenient at home as well.
In SmartConnect I went through the options related to the desktop charger but I did not find anything useful. There are no actions like "keep the screen on" or "wake up".
    Any ideas?

  • Port Replicator vs Docking station. What's the difference?

I've just received a port replicator for my T410, and I find that I can't lock the Thinkpad to the unit. I presume THIS is the difference between a replicator and a dock.... Is that true?
However, looking at the description of the port replicator, it says, and I quote, that it has "a cable lock slot to secure  both your port replicator and your notebook".
So how can it secure the notebook? I've had to get a second Kensington Lock to lock both the replicator and Thinkpad down securely ------ or am I missing something here?
UPDATE: Ok - so now I see that the Kensington Lock on the Port Replicator does lock the laptop to the unit. Thus the only differences I can see is that a D/Station has some extra ports (Parallel printer, couple more displays, headphone & microphone). Is that all?

Port replicator just replicates the port choices on the laptop, while the docks offer more port choices that are not available on the laptop itself.

  • Port replicator, docking station 2504

I need to ask dumb and dumber questions.
First the dumb question.  I have a T61 that I upgraded to Windows 7.  I used the automatic driver utility and everything works fine, both docked in a 2504 or undocked.  I would like a more detailed user manual than the one you can get in support.  That one says to go to the Lenovo help in ThinkAdvantage to "port replicators" for detailed instructions, however that is replaced with the Toolbox for Windows 7 which does not have any info for port replicators.  Is there any way to get a detailed user manual or the detailed help for the 2504 port replicator?
If I had that I may not have to ask the second dumber question. The key,  which I have, can not be removed unless it is in the locked position requiring the key to unlock and use the dock.  Is there any way to remove the key in the unlocked position so the key is not needed?  I really don't need that type of security and worry I may someday lose the key, even if I leave it in the lock.
    Thanks for any help

    thanks for reeply.
I can only take out the key when it is in the unlocked position,  when I move it to the locked it is held by something in the lock,  I have pushed buttons, unplugged the power but it still only can be removed with the key "vertical" or unlocked, with the key horizontal or locked it is stuck in.
because I do not have the detailed help for this mini dock, they were lost in the Windows 7 upgrade, according to the very basic mini dock user guide it says to go to the Lenovo help in ThinkAdvantage under port replicator for detailed help, but that was only available with the original OS, Vista,  Windows 7 Lenovo upgrade has a ThinkAdvantage Toolbox which does not have that help available,  I believe there must be a certain button or a release slot I can't see to release the key

  • Quality issues with VGA port on Type 2504 docking station

    Hi,
I see quality issues on the VGA output of the Type 2504 docking station with a T61. The monitor image is blurred, not much, but enough to be irritating. When I compare the DVI output with the VGA output on two equal NEC MultiSync LCD 2170NX monitors it is a clear difference. If I connect the LCD monitor to the VGA output of the T61 itself, the picture is clean. I have tried both monitors with different cables in different configurations and also adjusted monitors manually, and my conclusion is that it must be the VGA output of the 2504 that generates the un-sharpness. I have got several 2504 docking stations from the IT department to test and all attempts show the same unsharp picture on the LCD connected to the VGA port of any 2504. Recently a colleague got a new laptop and docking station. He also used DVI and VGA on the old setup and had no visible difference between the two monitors. His new setup is a different T but his new dock is also a 2504. Now he has clear difference between his monitors. He also tried several 2540 docks and cables but the difference is still present.
The unsharpness is not immediately present when just looking at a dual head setup. But after a while it becomes tiresome to look at text, specially black on white, on the monitor connected to the VGA port. There is a slight shadow on the right side of all letters. When looking at non-aliased fonts, they look as if aliased on the VGA connected monitor. Already aliased fonts tend to "smear" and I have the unpleasant feeling that my eyes are not focusing correctly.
My question is: Is there a different VGA DAC on the docking station, or are the analog signals just wired through from the laptop VGA DAC? Older IBM docks do not have this problem, we have a lot of them at work in dual head configuration with DVI + VGA to compare, and we only see this problem with the 2504.

VGA is an analogue signal... so it can be affected by the quality of DAC chip used by the GPU associated electronics, the quality of connectors on the vga out and dock (that is why good analgoue audio equipment use gold plated stuffs) and the quality of copper wire and shiedling used in the cable (i.e. Low Oxygen Content Copper wire).
The above is general description for all people to use <---- so please don't feel offended if i repeat something that is already said.
There is NO conversion electronics on the dock per se, they are just passthrough, so no conversion.
I guess the problem lies with improper shielding somewhere. I have the same problem with my T61/60 and dock and my T40,41,42,43 on five different docks.
So i have ended up using lenovo usb2dvi converter on T61 and have two dvi output and bypassed the vga altogether.

  • Connect multiple devices to one Thunderbolt port with docking station

    Hello everybody,
for a video editing setup I would like to use all devices connected until now directly to my iMac just with a Thunderbolt docking station on only one Thunderbolt port. What I do not understand is, whether bitrate will stay the same for each device or will be splitted? Has this to do with daisy chaining Thunderbolt devices?
So this will be the setup:
1 Thunderbolt cable from iMac to Thunderbolt docking station
    devices connected to docking station:
    one Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt
one external USB 2.0 hard drive
one external USB 3.0 hard drive
    external HDMI monitor
    Ethernet connection
So the general question is, will all of these devices get only part of the bitrate that Thunderbolt provides or can each device, theoretically, get full Thunderbolt bitrate?
And are there different types of Thunderbolt cables (Thunderbolt 1 or 2) that I have to pay attention to?
    Regards DonTimo

Also, if you use the Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display, it will have an additional Thunderbolt and Firewire ports on its back.

  • W510 Docked in 433820U Port Replicator USB Ports Occassionally Stop Working

Has anyone had the problem where the USB ports on the 433820U Port Replicator stop working? I've had it happen on several occassion where the USB ports on the port replicator stop working when I do something seemingly unrelated (e.g. unplugging a CAT5 network cable, dropping something on the desk near the docked laptop). Once this happens, I have to unplug the USB devices from the port replicator and plug them into the laptop's USB ports in order to continue using the keyboard or mouse, or turn the laptop off and then back on. I'm trying to figure out if this is a defect in the port replicator or some outdated driver. Anyone else have a similar problem?

This system supports USB3 ports but they are only USB2 on the port replicator. What's up with that?
    Hi William:
I kinda, sorta think that the reason that the USB connectors on the Dock are only USB2 has to do with the speed of the connection between the big dock connector on the bottom of the notebook and the USB ports on the back of the Dock.
I notice a similar problem when I had a W500 and a earlier model Dock.  That earlier model dock had an UltraBay in it.  If I put a hard drive (installed in a caddy) in the Dock, it ran very slowly - as if it was connected by USB - but if I put the same hard drive in the same caddy into the UltraBay on the side of the W500, it ran very, very fast.  So, all I could attribute this to was that the data just could not flow through the dock connector on the bottom of the notebook as fast as it could flow through the UltraBay connector on the inside of the notebook.
Perhaps the same concept applies to the USB connectors on the Dock... maybe the USB3 connectors on the notebook itself have a faster data connection into the computer than the USB connectors on the dock, which need to pass through that big dock connector on their way to the computer.

  • W520 Docking station usb ports

Ok so I have a W520 and have it in it's proper docking station.  I was wondering if the USB ports on the BACK of the docking station are USB 3.0, or 2.0.  I'd prefer if it was 3.0 but theres no way to tell.  Hoping someone could help me out.
    Thanks!

  • Thunderbolt Docking Station with 2 Ports...

I'm new to the forums. Please forgive my noob status. I have a Belkin Thunderbolt docking station with 2 Thunderbolt ports (as well as a number of other useful connecting ports). My MacBook Pro has 2 of them also. If I connect my MacBook with TWO cables, one in each port, will this double (or at least increase) the transfer speed to and from my laptop, over and above the use of 1 TB Cable?
    Thanks!

That dock is designed for one TB input from your Mac.  The other ports on the dock are for additional TB devices to be connected.  They are not made for parallel inputs.
