Does a fresh install of Microsoft SQL 2012 Datacenter or Standard need any hotfix before installing?

Do I need to run any hotfix or pre requisites before doing a fresh install of Microsoft SQL 2012 Standard or Datacenter?
Please clarify because there's nothing stating this in the SQL requirements.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx
Many thanks.

It's always better if you use slipstream installation to avoid any known issues with setup itself.

  • Migration of the database from Microsoft SQL 2014 Express to Microsoft SQL 2012 Server

I posted a similar thread yesterday, and I realized that there was a serious typo.
    Link: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/b3e201ea-6c7c-43a4-8908-842b714ea451/migration-of-the-database-from-microsoft-sql-2014-express-to-microsoft-sql-2012-server?forum=sqlservermigration
Therefore, I made a decision to post another thread right now.
    I am
writing to ask if there are any known issues when migration from MS SQL 2014 Express to MS SQL 2012 Server version. Are there any step-by-step instruction on how I can go about doing this?
Looking forward to your response. Thank you for your time.
    Regards,
    Jeff Yoo

    Hello,
SQL Server 2012 setup program won’t allow you to perform a downgrade from SQL Server 2014 Express Edition. Backup/Restore
and Detach/Attach won’t help you either.
One option you have left is using SQL Server Import/Export Wizard as explained on the following article.
    http://www.mytechmantra.com/LearnSQLServer/Downgrade_SQL_Server_Database_P1.html
    Hope this helps.

  • Does a Macbook Pro 13 inches (Mid 2012) come up with a Mac OS X install disc?

Does a Macbook Pro 13 inches (Mid 2012) come up with a Mac OS X install disc? What if some problems will occur regarding the OS? How can I fix it? Thanks.

No. Macs that came standard installed with Lion or later don't come with media, and, indeed, some don't even come with DVD drives to run media in.
...What if some problems will occur regarding the OS? How can I fix it?...
Such Macs come with a hidden recovery partition. You can boot from that and restore the OS if that's what's needed, or run Disk Utility to repair the HD. Check out http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 for details.

No. From the very beginning all versions of PSE have been able to coexist.

  • Maximum number of processor sockets in Windows Server 2012 Datacenter and Standard

I have found no documentation on the technical number of supported processor sockets supported by Windows Server 2012 for the Standard and Datacenter editions.
Some donation websites like Techsoup claim that Datacenter supports 64 physical processors and Standard 8, but I can find no authoritative confirmation of this and those look like extrapolation from Windows Server 2008 R2.
So what are the maximum supported # of processor sockets, assuming you have licenses for all of them, for Datacenter and Standard? Do they differ by edition?
In addition, is it true that the total # of supported logical processors in a single system is 640 w/o Hyper-V? It was originally reported to be that, but since Hyper-V's number doubled from 160 in the Beta to 320 in the RC and RTM, did this double too?

You might find some of the information you are looking for here -
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/C/A/2CA38362-37ED-4112-86A8-FDF14D5D4C9B/WS%202012%20Feature%20Comparison_Hyper-V.pdf.  I know there is one change that is not reflected there.  Recently the maximum number of virtual machines supported
in a cluster was raised to 8,000 instead of the 4,000 reflected in this document.
The maximum number of sockets for Standard would be two because that is the maximum number that the license supports.  Standard has never supported 8.  Prior to 2012, it supported 4, and then the licensing changed with 2012 so that Standard would
be sold per processor (socket) with a maximum of two.  Technically, the binaries are the same for Standard and Datacenter, so you can most likely get it to run with more somehow, but it is not a supported configuration.
The maximum number of sockets for Datacenter would be 64 - that has not changed from 2008.  I make this statement based on the fact that Datacenter supports a maximum of 64 virtual CPUs when run as a virtual machine.  Virtual machines don't have
the distinction of socket versus hyper-thread versus core.  They see what is presented to them as a processor.  But, I doubt very much that you will find any off-the-shelf 64 socket systems; most vendors are relying on the core densities instead
of socket density in order to deliver the horsepower.  The above referenced document still shows 320 as the maximum number of logical processors, with or without Hyper-V.

  • HT4623 unable to install ios7.04 to ipad. I had no problem installing it to iphone 5c. Never had any problem before. installing any of the IOS 7 updates, just the IOS7 04

I am having a problem installing IOS 7. 04 to IPad. I had no problem installing it on my iphone 5c. I have didn't have a problem with any of the other installs. I wonder if anyone else is having a problem.

Thank you very much for your quick response. It took two tries, but it worked, it through me a curve, it directed me to plug in to my computer and go to iTunes, so that is how I did it. I am not very iPad savvy, so for me , it was a challenge . It also brought the iPad back to original set up. Had to set up all apps again. Oh we'll, I appreciate your help. Thanks again.

  • Need to uninstall before installing Cloud version?

    Hi,
Do I need to uninstall version 4 before installing my newly bought Cloud version?

Probably not.  Version 4 of what?

  • Why can't I install Yosemite or go back to the way my Mac was before installing?

    Hello,
First, I apologize if someone has already asked about this.
My MacBook Pro, got it around 2010, was running on OS X 10.6.8 (or that's at least what it says when I click on "About StartUp Disk").
So here's what happened: thinking that since everyone is getting on to Yosemite, I downloaded the free update off the App Store.  When it starts to install, it shows it's going to take 22-23 minutes and then it tells me:
"OX could not be installed on your computer File system verify or repair failed.  Quit the installer to restart the computer and try again."
And when I do, the same thing happens.  I want to restart with the Startup Disk, it tells me it doesn't have enough information. Now, I can't make go back to the way it or install at all.
    Thank You,
    Gooner

The bad news is that the most likely reason the installation failed is due to disk corruption that happened to coincide with the upgrade. The installer performs this disk verification prior to installing OS X.
I suggest the following procedure in an effort to "repair" the corruption to the extent that you can boot from or otherwise mount the affected volume sufficiently to extract whatever information can be extracted prior to replacing it. The reason for putting "repair" in quotes is that whatever caused it to become corrupted in the first place is certain to occur again, and falls short of a strict definition of the word "repair".
Boot single user mode (*) then type
    fsck_hfs -rf /dev/disk0s2
Substitute your disk device name for disk0s2 in the above. It will most likely be named either that or disk0s1.
To see a list of devices,
    ls /dev
There is no harm in attempting the above multiple times, as often as you are willing, until it finishes successfully. If it does, back up your information immediately since you may not get another chance.
(*) "You cannot enter single-user or verbose mode if the computer owner or administrator has enabled Open Firmware Password Protection."

  • Any tips before installing Leopard 10.5?

    Hi,
I recently purchased Mac OSX Leopard family pack to upgrade my iMac G5 which currently has Panther 10.3.9, and then to upgrade my Macbook Pro which has Tiger 10.4.11. Before I install the disc, is there anything that I should do or check that might facilitate the upgrade? For example, should I run disc utilities, disc repairs, etc.?
    Thanks,
    Art

    1. Check to be sure you have enough physical memory. I currently have 4Gbytes on my MBP. If not the Apple/Samsung factory memory is available from http://www.macsales.com/ and it is a lot less expensive.
    2. You might want to verify your disk before you install the new O/S.
    3. It might be time to upgrade to 250Gbytes on your disk if you plan to load it up with audio and video.
    4. Check to be sure you have upgraded your router firmware to the latest version. If its more than a year old you may want to consider buying a new router. iChat is a little finicky (b/c of NAT) about the router it uses for video conference. I bought a Time Capsule and ALL my video problems disappeared. Go figure. Mass market routers like Linksys can't keep pace with the new machines on the market.
    5. Install 10.5 via "Archive and install". You will be able to select this "Option" at the "Select destination" screen. This produces the cleanest and most reliable upgrade installation. Also, when you go to 10.5.2, download the Combo upgrade to your desktop and install it from there. This method offers the most reliable upgrade to 10.5.2.
    6. Check any third party applications to be sure they are compatible with Leopard.

  • Some basic things I need to know before install

Hii I am new to ARCH and need to know some things
1)Can I have rasier 4 with thie distro? I heard it's fast and want to use it.
2)I have DHCP network, and I need to provide my DNS and host and not to get it from the modem, How do it right?
3)I have nvidia and generic screen , how to set it up right?
    4) What more Should I know about ARCH? I have read most of the FAQ and WIKI and so on, but more info will be good
Hope to get a lot of answers and info

    Welcome to Arch!
    1. I think you mean reiserfs4: Reiserfs is no problem with the stock Arch Linux Kernel and the archck-kernel available in the extra repository. If you intend to compile your own kernel make sure you enable reiserfs if your config. But I personaly think it would bring you less problems if you start by using ext3 – you wouldn't see a huge difference in speed.
    2. simply done by configuring your /etc/rc.conf file in the network section this way:
    eth0="dhcp"
and your /etc/resolv.conf like this, substituting your nameservers' IPs and your domain name:
    nameserver 61.23.173.5
    nameserver 61.95.849.8
    search example.com
    More info here
    3. RTFM
    4. What do you want to know? I could talk for hours about Arch so feel free to ask…
    Cheers Sigi

  • Installation of Golf Program requires uninstalling Microsoft SQL 2005 and installing SQL 2000

I am running Win 7 and about to purchased a new computer with Win 8.1.
The USGA wrote a Tournament Program which is used nationwide called TPP (Tournament Pairing Program).  It was developed prior to XP but it is updated every time you run the update.  It runs on XP without any adjustments.  To load the program
on Win 7 or Win 8 you are instructed to remove Microsoft SQL Server 2005, which I did.  The program loads SQL 2000 when it is installed.  I am concerned when I uninstall the TPP program that it will also uninstall SQL 2000 (which it installed) and
then there will be no SQL server on my Win 7.
I was going to make sure that I could install the TPP program on Win 8 (before buying another computer) by installing it on a friends new Win 8.1 computer.  But I am concerned about removing the preinstalled SQL Server program.
    1) How does one get the original Microsoft SQL Server back once it has been removed and the recycle bin has been emptied?  Does the SQL program even get sent to the recycle bin when it is removed?
    2)  Is there any harm done by removing the original SQL program be it 2005 or a new one?

SQL 2000 is not supported on Windows 7.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028963/en-us
whenever you uninstall SQL Server, databases files are not deleted. So you can move them to safe location. if they are delete by you then you have very less chances to recover the data.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Express silent installation very slow

Iam doing silent installations often on several Systems.
I install the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Studio Express with this command:
    "SQLManagementStudio_x64_DEU.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /QUIET /IAcceptSQLServerLicenseTerms="True" /FEATURES=CONN,BC,SSMS /indicateprogress"
The installation will take almost an hour to finish.
I never get error messages or so. The installation afterwards is fine.
Is there a way to speed up the installation process?
    Thanks!

    Hi Dennis,
When installing SQL Server Management Studio, it is normal for us taking an hour to finish the installation.
Personally, if you want to speed up the installation process, I recommend improve your hardware device on your computer, such as CPU, RAM, hard disk and so on.
Or you can submit an submit the requirement at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/.
If the requirement mentioned by customers for many times, the product team may consider to add or improve this requirement in the future SQL Server version. Thanks for your understanding.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 - Does the CU1 must be installed before installing CU2?

    Hi,
Is it needed the CU1 before installing CU2?
    Is CU1 a prerequisite for CU2?
    Thanks!

Firstly, SCOM 2012 R2 has Update Roll-ups (URs) and latest one being UR4, Cumulative Updates (CUs) are for SCOM 2012 SP1 - You can directly go for the latest patch available
For SCOM 2012 R2 UR4 refer: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2992020?wa=wsignin1.0, please also find a caveat in it
