Does T420S Optimus nvidia controller (nvs 4200m) support 3dvision on an external monitor?

All:
I use 3dvision for video and photos.  I've tried initially to move my 3dvision compatible monitor to the displayport output on the T420s.  All of the 3dvision software loads but it does not appear that I can shift into the correct video mode.  Does anyone know if this is possible with the NVS 4200m.  The toughest aspect of this mode would be the ability to output 1920x1080x120hz.
Thanks
Ken

Displayport.  For now I've got a passive Displayport to DVI adapter so it only does single link but I've tried running 1280x720x120hz which is within the capability of single link - but no 120hz option.
Window might not be detecting the display correctly, see if you can find a driver for the monitor. If not you'll have to force it.

I ask in reference to using 3dvision but I've connected a 3dvision capable monitor (essentially supports 120hz refresh) but the driver does not list 120hz refresh option.  Nvidia website isn't clear on the NVS 4200m capabilities so can someone tell me whether or not I should be able to get 120hz refresh out of the card?
    Thanks

  • Do the 12" powerbooks support 1920x1200 on an external monitor?

I have a 1.5Ghz 12", and am thinking about getting a 24" widescreen monitor. The company says to make sure the graphics card supports WUVGA (1920x1200), and i wanted to check this out before buying.

  • T420s Optimus Issues

    Greetings,
I have a T420s that is an Optimus capable model.   I am trying to achieve a 3 monitor set up and I have the correct docking station (the plus model), however, my optimus does not work properly, I have a monitor hooked up to almost every port in hopes of detecting them (2 DVI, 1 VGA, 1 Display port):
    1)  In Optimus Graphics Mode (Via the BIOS), when I log in to Windows, I can open up Device manager and watch the NVS 4200M drop off of the device manager and either give a generic graphics card name and indicate there is an issue with it or not appear at all
     A) The NVIDIA Control panel will not load as it indicates I do not have an NVIDIA GPU installed
    B) No NVIDIA Context menus are available
    2) In Discrete Graphics Mode (Via the BIOS), the Intel GPU does not appear in device manager, however the NVIDIA GPU Works fine
    A) NVIDIA Optimus Graphics settings do not appear under "Manage 3D Settings" on the NVIDIA control panel
    B) I do not have a "View" menu on NVIDIA control panel from which I can check the feature to add GPU selection to the
right click context menu when dealing with applications
    C) I somewhat expect this to be the behavior using Discrete Graphics mode
    3) In integrated graphics mode (via the bios), the NVIDIA GPU does not appear under device manager, however the Intel GPU works fine.
    A) I assume this is the correct behavior
    NVIDIA Details:
    NVS 4200M
NVIDIA Control Panel Version : 4.3.980.0
    NVIDIA Driver: 276.58
    Intel Details:
    HD3000
I've reinstalled all GPU related drivers for both cards, and reinstalled using the generic package that lenovo provides.  This has not corrected the issue.    I used the ones dated April 2012, from this site.
I've reinstalled everything again, attempted to install the drivers directly from NVIDIA and it states I must install an Intel driver first before allowing me to proceed
    Any ideas?

I don't think its in the list it may be somewhere else. Only current ones are listed usually. Go to the support website and see what is listed for your machine type and build number.
You may have to call support but why did the OEM image get replaced if there wasn't a customized tested image made for it. Clearly if you need this driver as well you're just starting with collection of likely issues that they may not be able to resolve. Support may say to put the image back on and then call if you have problems.
Not knowing what was done requires hands on by a seasoned tech who may be able to resolve it in time. There are machine specific which need to addressed and without them installed and the lenovo tools and Thinkvantage installed you could be in for long weekend working on it.
    Good luck.

  • Macbook pro does not support Final Cut Pro preview on external monitor?

I have been editing on Final Cut Pro from my imac for approx 1 year with an external monitor attached with no problems. I recently bought a macbook pro, for Final Cut Pro editing, and discovered that the monitor does not work. The Final Cut Pro preview on the external monitor freezes and in the preview pane of FCP it flick between two images.
I have been reading around some forums, and have seen a couple of people with the same problem.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to run the external monitor with FCP?
    Thanks!

You have probably already done it but ensure you have updated the OS and Quicktime prior to attempting to instal Final Cut Studio.
I recently had a hard drive crash and after installing the new hard drive it would not read the OS installation disc. I ended up using an external drive case and installed the OS on the drive from a different Mac Book, then reinstalled the hard drive in the other Mac Book. Then it booted right up. I updated all the original software before attempting to install any additional software.
Everyone kept saying it wouldn't install due a possibly defective optical drive and I can't say why but it wasn't the drive. As soon as I had the system up and running again the optical drive functioned flawlessly.
    I hope this helps you.

  • NVIDIA and external monitor

    W520, Windows 7 (64 bit), NVIDIA Quadro 1000M 2GB DDR3, purchased November 2011.
    Problems (related?):
-External monitor remains unrecognized when connected to W520.
-NVIDIA not recognized or working.   Maybe reason external monitor not recognized?
Tried to connect this computer to an HP2511x external monitor (via VGA direct to the computer or through docking station) but the monitor is not recognized.  Last made this connection about a year ago and it worked fine at that time: plugged the VGA cable into the W520 and the external monitor connected automatically, in duplicate mode.  The HP usually is connected to another computer and works fine, and the VGA cable was tested recently and is good. Tried the options at Fn/F7 and windows key/P:  the HP monitor remains black.
Studied the external monitor issue in forums and learned about the NVIDIA comments.   In follow up, I learned that the NVIDIA device is not listed in my Device Manager, under Display Adapters or elsewhere.  Right-clicking the desktop does no bring up the NVIDIA Control Panel.
When I do a search for the NVIDIA Control Panel, this message appears:
“NVIDIA display settings are not available.   You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA  GPU.”  This appears whether VGA connected to the external monitor or not.
I attempted, several times, to download the NVIDIA driver from the NVIDIA site via auto detection.  The auto detect page instructed me to download Java, but Java is already loaded and current.  So I entered the NVIDIA info manually, which eventually lead to this message:
    “NVIDIA Installer failed”
HD Audio Driver – Not Installed
    NVIDIA WMI – Not Installed
    nView – Not Installed
    Graphics Driver – Failed
3D Vision Driver – Not Installed
So, I went to the Lenovo website and downloaded:
“NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 7 (64-bit) - ThinkPad”
After a restart, right clicking the desktop still does not show the NVIDIA Control Panel.
    The Device Manager shows:
    -Intel(R) HD Graphic Family
    -Unknown device
I clicked on the Unknown device and read:
    -Device type: Display adapters
    Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0
Device status: Reinstall the driver for this device. (Code 18)
Then I clicked the Reinstall Driver button, which lead to this message:
“Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.  Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.  NVIDIA Quadro 1000M”
I went through the above processes several times to be certain that I did not miss something.
There is a GeForce shortcut on the desktop and when clicked, leads to this message:
“GeForce Experience encountered an error and must close.”
    Tried rebooting to BIOS:
    BIOS>Config>Display: the options are:
-Boot Display Device (ThinkPad LCD) default
    -Graphic Device (NVIDIA Optimus)
-OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus (enabled)
Changed display to Graphic Device, tapped F10 to save and exit, then save, before computer goes into normal mode.
Try Fn/F7, duplicate, then extend, then projector and in all cases the HP monitor remains black, unrecognized.  Message on W520 screen:
“Unable to connect to a computer.
    No projector was detected.”
So, back to reboot> BIOS>Config>Display were I find that the setup reverted to the default.  Changed display to OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus disabled.  Save, reboot, Fn/F7 and again no recognition of the HP monitor.  Reboot, BIOS etc, and the display option is back to the original default.
What do I need to do to get NVIDIA and the external monitor working on this W520?
    Thank you.

    Hi RR
    1. Ensure your BIOS is set to NVIDIA Optimus for multiple monitor connectivity.
    2. Download and update your Intel and NVIDIA driver from it's official website. Clicking Intel and NVIDIA will link directly to the download page for latest driver.
    3. If the 2 above succeed, but Fn+F7 still can't display your external monitor. Try right click Desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > Set up multiple displays. (The only workable method for W520 - Windows 8.1)

  • Tecra S5: No 1920x1200 & 1680x1050 support on external monitors?

    Hello,
    I have a Tecra S5 with nVidia Quadro NVS 130M (512 MB)
Officially, according to Toshiba the external monitor specs are:
    +max. resolution : 2,048 x 1,536+
    +max. refresh rate : 100 Hz+
    +non-interlaced resolution with max. refresh rate : 1,920 x 1,200+
I try to work with 2 different external monitors with no luck.
First I had a Samsung 245B, 24'' (1920x1200). I install the Samsung driver, but this resolution was not supported.I tried also the forceWare from laptop2go.com, but again no luck.
So, I change my monitor and bought a Samsung 2243NW, 22'', 1680x1050. This resolution is the same with the native resolution of Tecra. I thought that this resolution could be supported. But still no luck. I could change the resolution to 1400x1050, or 1600x1200, but not the 1680x1050.
It it really a pity that Toshiba doesn't support 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 resolutions. The majority of nowadays monitors use those res.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for your time

    Hi
You should firstly check if you graphic card would support such resolution on external monitor.
The user manual should provide all details.
If the graphic card doesnt support you favorite resolution then there is nothing to do.
If the GPU will support such external resolution then you have to check if the graphic driver would also support such resolution. The point is that even if the graphic card would support the external resolution you will be not able to choose it if the graphic driver doesnt support it.
As you see more factors are important

  • Photoshop window does not display unless connected to external monitor

I use a MBP connected it to an Apple Cinema Display used as an external monitor (not a dual display) when in my studio.
When I use Adobe Photoshop CS 5 without the monitor the image window does not display on the MBP. If I plug the external monitor in, the window is displayed correctly on the MBP. Photoshop is opening and "displaying" the image window offscreen. Nothing gets it back onscreen, except plugging in the external monitor.
I often use Photoshop away from my studio so this is a big problem. PShop is essentially unusable unless connected to an external monitor.
    Is this a known issue?
    Any workarounds?
    Any ideas?
There is a previous discussion on this topic from January 2012, but it remains open and unanswered. Hoping there are some new ideas. Thanks for the help.

The MacOS still thinks the second display is available and valid -- so Photoshop puts the documents on the last used display and the OS doesn't give any errors.
Once the OS notices the change in display configuration, Photoshop should go back to the main display and force images and dialogs back to the main display.
Applications rely on the OS for the display configuration, and sometimes the OS gets confused or holds onto outdated configurations a bit too long...

  • T420s-NVIDIA NVS 4200m shows up as Standard VGA

    Hey all,
So I've had this problem for a while now, I know that in my T420s there is a NVIDIA NVS 4200m GPU, but it refuses to recognize that it even exists. I'm running it in NVIDIA Optimus mode, but in Device Manager, all that shows up under the Display Driver are Intel(R) HD Graphics and  another which says Standard VGA Graphics adapter (which can't start due to a 'Code 10')
Why is it that my NVIDIA doesn't show up? How can I get my T420s to recognize and use it over the Intel HD?
Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I got my new T420s today with nVidia NVS 4200M and after turning it on, it just showed standard video with 1024x768.
In device manager it showed both standard VGA graphics and NVIDIA NVS 4200M but when I right clicked on the desktop it did not give me an option to choose nVidia, but just standard VGA.
I updated the nVidia graphics driver from here (7 Nov 2011, the one from April 2011 was not enough)

Well I have the same notebook and had trouble updating. See if the OEM one is in the build in SWTOOLS and reinstall that. If it takes then the update will be prompt in driver updates. I would verify your BIOS is current as well.

Does the Thinkpad T420 running windows 7 Home Premium support the windows 10 upgrade? Also, my machine is very slow to start (3- 4 minutes). Will the upgrade to windows 10 help this issue?

The T420 is not supported by Lenovo for Win 10. That doesn't mean that it would not mostly work, but it does mean that you will certainly have some 'adventures, along the way, and may find that some things just don't work with Win 10 - whether those things are important few you will depend very much on how you use your T 420.

  • Which display driver package do I need for Nvidia Quadro NVS 110m?

    Hi there,
I'm new to (Arch) Linux and was wondering which display driver package I need. I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a "nvidia quadro nvs 110m".
In the Arch Linux beginners guide it says:
    1. nvidia-96xx slightly newer cards up to the GF 4.
    2. nvidia-173xx Geforce FX series cards
    3. nvidia newest GPUs after the GF FX
Consult the NVIDIA-Homepage to see which one is for you.
But on the NVIDIA-Homepage it says:
The GeForce M series and GeForce Go series notebook GPUs use drivers that have been customized by the notebook manufacturers to support hot key functions, power management functions, lid close and suspend/resume behavior. NVIDIA has worked with some notebook manufacturers to provide notebook-specific driver updates, however, most notebook driver updates must come from the notebook manufacturer.
And they just forward me to Dell Support which obviously neither offers a linux driver nor linux driver information for the D620.
So which of the three packages do I have to install?
Are these packages open-source drivers? Do I need proprietary nvidia drivers to get full 3D-performance?
Does anybody have experience with the D620?
Although I'm new to Linux and I like the KISS idea behind Arch Linux, I still want to have all that Compiz Fusion eye candy. I also want to play a few games which need 3D performance (once I'm familiar with wine). ;-)
Thanks in advance for your help,

    Thanks a lot.
Final question: How does Arch Linux deal with license issues? If the nvidia package includes the original nvidia drivers linked above, doesn't that cause any legal/moral problems? Like in Ubuntu for example they always point out that it's proprietary software you're gonna install when enabling the nvidia drivers.
    Just wondering...

I'm having trouble installing the right driver for Nvidia QUadro NVS 110M video card on my laptop. What ever driver I install it requests for a reboot and when I restart, I get a blue screen.
Things that I have tried (all resulted in blue screen after restart).
    Update driver using Automatic update
Downloaded driver from Dell support site (for Vista)
    Downloaded driver from nVidia
    Downloaded beta driver from nVidia
Please note: It used to work on Windows 7 before on the same laptop - I was trying to replace HDD and cant seem to make it work again with the new OS installation.Chandra Sekhar

    Hello,
    I'd suggest you installing the XP driver in Compatibility mode. Remove that hardware device in Device Manager, right-click on the driver executable/installer file and select the Compatibility tab; click the checkbox before Run this program in Compatibility mode for option and select Windows XP in the list-down box;
If the problem still persists, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system (only the beta version) and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; some old driver is not compatible with new OS. I suggest that you should wait for another period of time till the retail version is released and push the vendor company to upgrade their device driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!
For more details, please look at the first Sticky thread at the top of this forum.
What can I do if my hardware does not work?
This will give you some guidelines.
    Good Luck!
