Dolphin error: Can't mount partition: PermissionDeniedByPolicy....

Hello,
This is an aggrivating error that I've been dealing with for a while now -- ever since I switch to Arch from Kubuntu, actually. When I attempt to mount my Windows partition (NTFS) from the Dolphin file manager, this is the result:
An error occures while accessing 'Volume (ntfs)', the system responded:
org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy:
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed auth_admin_keep_always <-- (action,result)
I don't know whhow to fix this. I remember in Kubuntu if I attempted to mount a fixed disk, PolicyKit would pop up and ask for the password. This is the behavior I am looking for.
Also, before anyone asks, yes, i'm in the 'storage' group:
$ id
uid=1000(ryan) gid=1000(ryan) groups=7(lp),10(wheel),91(video),92(audio),93(optical),95(storage),96(scanner),97(camera),98(power),100(users),1000(ryan)
Anyone know how to fix this?

btw, here's my /etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf:

    "Firmware","disk error","can't mount it": Is this the end? My iShuffle is DEAD?
    I think it's dead but as my last breath i will try to find any different solution before to bury it. Sorry for my English, I am Brazilian, but I will try do my best for you understand me. It’s me who needs help.
    I have an iShuffle 512MB (purchase OUT2005), a mini iPod 6GB (purchase SET2005) and a PC running Windows XP SP2 (ADM Athlon XP 2600, HD 120GB, 512MB RAM, 6 USB 2.0).
    My mini iPod 6GB (miP6) works correctly with iTunes 5 or 6, with its original factory software and settings and now with iPod update October 2005. I don’t know if everything started when I first connected them two at the same time but they were working fine in the beginning.
    One day my iShuffle, connected to my PC USB and transferring music from iTunes, , started to turn off and turn on, that is, iTunes showed it connected and then disconnected even I wasn’t touching it. When it came back in iTunes I started to try to transfer music to it and this time it came off, and then came back without that music I tried to transfer in. This situation didn’t go better even when I try to change my iPod to the other five USB ports, neither in my Notebook (PC WinXP SP2). I have reinstalled iPod with the original CD software, reinstalled iTunes and all the things I read at this forum. The situation was going worse until now, I don’t know why, I can’t use it anymore. The current situation, after all I did – and I will explain what was - is:
    1) When I connect it to a USB in my PC or Notebook, windows recognize it as a mass storage device and iTunes don’t start automatically.
    2) I go to windows explorer and there it is, “Drive E: removable disk”, but…
    3) But it looks like a Drive, with no disk in it. It’s a kind of a CD-ROM drive with NO CD inside it. This way, I can’t format it because I can’t format a drive, just a disk, even partition it.
    4) When I connect it to other PCs (winXP), with no iPod software installed, the systems first recognize it as Apple iPod and then as USB Mass Storage device, but the same way at my PC: OKB.
    5) When I try to run iPod Updater I receive most of the times this message: “Can’t mount it”. Some times it recognizes it as an iPod but I receive the message, during the restoring original software process, “Firmware update failure. Disk write error”, as you can see here: http://www.ivan.med.br/ishuffle.jpg.
    6) So, to try to use Updater, at this time, is out of question. If there is anyway to save it, I think it must be through other software or adjustment, I don’t know. I will show you a brief of what I have done until now:
    “Windows-try”
    - Current updater. Reinstalled old updater and run too. Reinstalled iTunes and all this stuff.
    - Changed USB connection and reinstall USB drives.
    - Installed iShuffle at another machine the same way described in iShuffle Manual.
    - Tried to format it using windows explorer format tool and other no-windows native tools.
    - Used partition magic and other tool to try to build anything in it.
    - Used Click Administrative Tools, double-clicked Computer Management, and then clicked Disk Management in the left pane. Nothing appeared. When I connect my miP6 it is there, and everything works fine. Just remember.
    - Used Windows tools (CMD tools) as DiskPart and MountVol. Nothing.
    “DOS-Try”
    - I used a bootable win98 formatted floppy disk, with USB ASPI support, and the system recognized the two USB devices I have connected that time: my Apple “DEAD” iShuffle and my Pendrive. But it could not assign a letter to iSuffle device, only for the pendrive. I’ve used DUSE software too and the same answer, even with an instruction INT13 that allow me to use Fdisk. But even Fdisk could not recognize the iPod as a Disk.
    So, this is my story. If anyone could understand it and know anything better than to bury it, send me your message, PLEASE. If you want to send me any software or tool you think can help me, my e-mail address

    Same problem in the US...after 1 week of use, hit the reverse button while playing and it stopped, never to resume. Tried the latest software updater for both the ipod and itunes, and received the Ipod Service and Can't Mount Errors. After multiple attempts, all I get is the updater screen stating Initializing.. Additionally, when I tried to reinstall, it stated that the ipod needed to be formatted, yet I received a message that the ipod couldn't communicate. Seems like too many people are having the same issue!

  • Time Capsule Error "Can not mount"

    I have been using time capsule with the 1TB router for months. After the recent updates, when time capsule runs I get the error "can not be mounted". I have turned off the router and restart the laptop without success. Anyone have similar problems and anyone have a solution for a novice?
    thanks

    I'm having the same issue of an "Unmountable Drive" issue with my Time Capsule. I did find this from GDMACK in another thread:
    "Solved the problem by making the name of the time capsule hard drive "TIMECAPSULE" with no special characters or spaces."
    I don't know if it will help our issue but it's worth a shot.

  • Error: can't mount ipod

    Hey,

    Also when the ipod and the computer are connected it say's it's charging but My ipod doesn't come up in Itunes. I try to export my library but nothing happpens yet my ipod always says do not disconect
    HELP ME!
    HP pavilion 7940   Windows XP

    If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve this issue.
    Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
    Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
    The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

  • External drive error, does not mount: "Partition map check failed because no slices were found"

    Hardware: MacBook late 2009 (2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo 2 GB RAM 250GB HDD) running 10.9.4, Hackintosh MacPro (3.29Ghz i3 16GB RAM 1TB HDD) running 10.9.4, external 3 TB Seagate Backup+ drive
    As you can can see from the screenshot below,
    The external drive was initially plugged in a Netgear WNDR4500 router by USB to be used as NAS. I was in the middle of updating the firmware when there was a power outage. Upon reboot, the drive no longer mounts, whatever it is plugged in (router, Mac, PC, etc.).
    I ran DiskUtility on the partition map and volume, same errors. Here's an what I see:
    As you can see above, the "Mount" icon is greyed out and I get the error message "Partition map check failed because no slices were found". If I select "the Archive" partition, the "Mount" icon is not greyed out but clicking it doesn't do anything. My HDD is basically unreadable.
    I issued a few Terminal commands to see what was the problem, here are the results:
    What can I do?
    Currently running analysis on TestDisk and it is 50% after 48hrs. Need some help!

    @ Allan Eckert: Unfortunately, reformatting is out of the question, I have 5 years of work on this!
    @ Loner T: Yes, the firmware did successfully upgrade after router reboot and a bit of troubleshoot.
    Thanks for the quick replies. Keep 'em coming!

  • Help!  "Can't Mount IPod"

    After multiple resets, reboots, and re-installs (both iTunes 6.0.5.20 and iPod updater 2006-06-28) I still get the error "Can't mount iPod" when running the updater. I have the flashing "Do not disconnect" message on the iPod and iTunes says "No iPod connected." In My Compter it shows removable disk that I can't do anything with. I've updated the iPodService from manual startup to automatic. I also do not have the option to restore the iPod (button is there, but greyed out.)

    I thought apple was supposed to have
    great customer service.. is anyone working for apple
    reading the forums???
    Apparently not. I have been going through all of their help articles and discussion board solutions on this topic. Mine is similar to yours. Nothing works, so I have clicked the feedback button at the end of each article, and described my issue there, along with a suggestion that they read their own discussion board. It might help if
    1. Everyone who has the "ipod wont mount" "Ipod Freezes" "Do not disconnect stays on forever and ipod freezes and causes everything to hang" "Ipod freezes and makes the computer, itunes, updater etc etc. hang" issues,
    2. And have tried the 5 rs and all the other suggestions ad nauseum,
    3. Go through the help site and click every feedback button in articles pertaining to this issue, and send their version. Write it out concise first in notepad, and then just click and paste. I think it is the only way to get someone's attention. Apple is asleep at the wheel.
    My next step is to go to itunes store, Amazon and every other site I can find and post my review. It will not be favorable. Luck, and please post if you find a solution.

  • Can't mount volume in obt1 - device offline

    Hi,
    I am trying to mount my tape volume in Manage: Drives, but keep getting the error:
    can't mount volume in obt1 - device offline
    OK, so the volume is offline, but my question is how can i get it online? Anyone have any ideas?
    thx.
    S.

    The error device offline refers to the tape device not volume. When the device is "in service" it should be able to mount the volume.
    In EM, go to the devices page. Insure that the library and drives have a status of "in service" which means the device is logically available to Oracle Secure Backup.

  • KDE's Dolphin can't mount NTFS partitions after upgrade to systemd

    Hi, I just finished to migrate my system to a pure systemd setup. Everithing seems to work fine, except that Dolphin can't mount NTFS partitions anymore, as it was able to do before. I'm not 100% sure that systemd is the culprit, but nevertheless it is a big change in my system so I assume that it may be the problem.
    Trying to mount with Dolphin I get this error message:
    An error occurred while accessing 'sATA-a', the system responded: The requested operation has failed.: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
    Error opening '/dev/sdb1': Permesso negato
    Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Permesso negato
    Please check '/dev/sdb1' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,
    and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at
    http://tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-faq/#unprivileged
    I used to get this kind of error aeons ago when trying to mount from CL; puzzling enough, mounting from CL now works:
    $ mount /media/disks/sATA-a
    $ ls /media/disks/sATA-a
    Documenti Download $RECYCLE.BIN RECYCLER sATA-b System Volume Information Temp Video
    This is the relevant entry in my fstab (I don't know if Dolphin cares about it...):
    #sATA-a
    UUID=D6789B21789B0003 /media/disks/sATA-a ntfs-3g noauto,users 0 0
    And finally:
    $ ll `which ntfs-3g`
    -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 125K 21 apr 12.13 /bin/ntfs-3g
    Can anybody give me a hint? Thanks.

    OK, the mess is growing up. Today I switched my laptop to systemd, and the mount problem has appeared  on this system as well. So I am confident that this is a systemd-related issue, and maybe some stock Arch config file is broken. I have this entry on my /etc/fstab for the ntfs-3g drive:
    UUID=88705BA9705B9D2E /media/vista ntfs-3g noauto,users,exec 0 0
    I compiled ntfs-3g with internal fuse support and did the setuid trick:
    $ ls -l `which ntfs-3g`
    -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 125K 16 apr 2012 /bin/ntfs-3g
    I can mount the disk using the command:
    $ mount /media/vista/
    $
    It works flawlessly, so ntfs-3g works. If I try to mount it with udisks I get:
    $ /usr/bin/udisks --mount /dev/sda2 --mount-options users,exec
    Mount failed: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
    Error opening '/dev/sda2': Permesso negato
    Failed to mount '/dev/sda2': Permesso negato
    Please check '/dev/sda2' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,
    and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at
    http://tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-faq/#unprivileged
    It sounds to me that udisks is trying to mount the disk as a different user, but I'm not an expert so I might be wrong. If I remove the entry in /etc/fstab then udisks will ask for the password. Repeating the same steps but for an ext3 partition, I am able to mount with udisks when there is a proper fstab entry, and I'm asked for a password when that entry is commented out.
    Based on these findings, I strongly suspect that there is some problem with logind configuration in my system. I have been going round and round for hours, serching the web and the wiki (which BTW is in a very bad shape, containing outdated or no informations about mount policies in the polkit and udev sections), and now I feel I need some help to go through it... thanks.

  • 1 of my HD partition suddenly can't mount and want me to initialize! HELP!!

    Hi,
    If anyone who frequented these kind of problems before please let me know your solutions solving these problems. Thanks very much!!
    I'm a musician and a frequent mac user,I have a Power Mac G4 dual 800 with 1.25GMhz ram running on Mac Os 9.21 but with Mac OS X installed (I need to use Mac OS classic due to some of my music softwares still need to be updated before I upgrade to OS X),I've put the Hard Disk in 2 other sub partition HD at the beginning and have been using it to put all my important audio files and songs files. No problems at all before these nightmare started!
    The serious problem I'm having now is I suddenly can't mount one of my partition HD anymore.
    -I heard weird sound when starting & re-starting the Mac. (Heard some Hard Disk weird sound like sound "crutch" sound" and since the partition can't be mounted, the first thing shows up after I boot the computer is asking me if I wanna Initialize the Hard Disk because it's unreadable. There is 2 choices for me "Cancel" & "Initialize" But there is no effect when I choose "Cancel" so I use the Force Quit.
    2 little message saying my Main Hard Disk & the other partition are damaged but they still showing up properly and still running dangerously I think.
    -I have tried to start-up by using the installer Disk came with the computer and runs the First Aid Kit to verify the disk. I can see the partition and can see the icon of it but it's just different from others (in a black tone basic classic icon) and after running the verification some following messages appears:
    "Mountcheck found serious errors" (in red) then "Overlapped extent allocation,2.60" (in red) and "Hard disk need to be repaired" so I run the Repair mode and it just can't fix because it says it's not been mounted.
    I've also checked the main HD and the other partition which sometimes had some problems with it but no problems been found.
    -There was few times my computer do Freeze or appears a Bomb asking me to restart when I recording something using the partition for saving the data and a weird sound of hard disk comes before freezing. It seems it's always the same place of the hard disk. Also When I inserted a blank CD-R disk into the drive it just freeze and appears a Bomb message instead asking me if I wanna use the Toast or i-tunes for preparing the disk which I always used to do.
    I really hope the computer can hang on just for 1 more month before I have a break to fix everything and backup everything inside or initialize everything inside.
    P.S. I've another Powerbook G4 running on OS Tiger but it's mainly for my internet use. ( I don't use internet connection for my PowerMac G4)
    And the Combo super Drive is DOWN,I just can't insert any Disk inside anymore. So if having another Mac is helpful for my issue,anything I would try.
    Due To I'm having some urgent important jobs now so I really can't initialize or setup other new computers for my works now.
    HELP! Thanks!!!

    Just because you can't find them does not mean they aren't there.
    Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
    You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
    You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.

  • Can't mount my Windows partition

    Hey Arch Forums.
    I've installed Arch64 and Arch32 on my desktop and laptop respectively, both on an array of Ext4 partitions (both have separate partitions for /, /home and /var). I followed the beginner's guide down to the letter, and now have both machines running GNOME.
    Both machines also have a separate NTFS Windows XP partition, but the trouble is that neither can mount, browse or access the Windows partition without being root.
    First off, typing 'mount /dev/sda1' (that's the Windows partition) resulted in '/dev/sda1 not in fstab or mtab.'
    So, I added /dev/sda1 to fstab with options 'rw,users,noauto 0 0'. Rebooted, but then I found out that it decided to automatically mount itself anyway and it wasn't showing in places, and I still couldn't access the partition without being root. Anyway, so I sudo umount it, and then discover I need to add my user account to the 'disk' group to be able to issue mount/umount commands.
    This worked, but it was still automounting on boot and I still couldn't access it without being root. I basically want to be able to just select the 'Windows' entry from the Places menu, have it mount and show on the desktop (it's not showing on the desktop when I boot up atm), and have Nautilus open up with the partition's root directory.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Well, I was trying previously to mount it with ntfs, as that's what was used under Ubuntu. But it's working now with ntfs-3g, I don't need to be root to read/write the disc now. However, I'm still having trouble with mounting it as non-root.
    First off, this is my fstab:
    none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
    none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
    #/dev/cdrom /media/cd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    #/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    #/dev/fd0 /media/fl auto user,noauto 0 0
    UUID=6cae25c5-cc5b-42ae-ad3a-70e892274a34 / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1
    UUID=f7e4d887-43d5-4ac4-869f-a2a5e4c16e2f /var ext4 defaults 0 2
    UUID=4a07547f-1fd6-41ea-8db7-469120830111 /home ext4 defaults,noatime 0 2
    UUID=08d54f59-520a-4e8e-9a9d-d440f2eff54e swap swap defaults 0 0
    UUID=5AB82DB8B82D9393 /media/Windows ntfs-3g defaults,users,exec 0 0
    As you can see, it's mounting on boot up at the moment. When I put noauto into the options, it doesn't mount, but when I'm on the desktop and try to mount it as non-root, I get the error "ntfs-3g-mount: user has no write access to mountpoint /media/Windows". As I was typing that out, another error appeared telling me that DBus encountered an error as it did not receive a reply.
    When I issue the mount command in terminal, I get "mount: only root can do that." - what should I do?

    No way around this. Your phone has to be restored using a computer running iTunes. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

    Hi, I am trying to fix a feezing problem on my iPod (on startup the display shows a folder with an exclamation mark) and was trying to do a factory restore on it when I ran into the following error messages.
