Doubt regarding internal  activity about snapshot controlfile

We knows that to maintain Read consistency, RMAN create a duplicate read consistent version of current control file known as snapshot control file. Now from docs, it has been mentioned that “RMAN needs a snapshot control file only when resynchronizing with the recovery catalog or when making a backup of the current control file”. I have a RMAN backup script where after allocating channels it is first taking whole database backup and then archivelog backup is taken once whole database backup is complete. In the end, it is taking current control file backup, now two doubts here:
1) We know that at the start of backup rman needs to resysnc recovery catalog with current control file - so a snapshot control is created before initiating full backup of the database?
2) Now in the end once when the whole database backup & archivelog backup is complete , while taking current controlfile backup as per written script, does it again create a new snapshot controlfile or just the snapshot controlfile is accessed and does the snapshot controlfile remains in locked state(read only) during entire backup operation ?
Any explanation behind these internals will be highly appreciated.

Hi,
1) We know that at the start of backup rman needs to resysnc recovery catalog with current control file - so a snapshot control is created before initiating full backup of the database?
I think snapshot controlfile is not created before initiating the backup because RMAN synchronize the recovery catalog with controlfile at the end of backup operation so that latest backup information also gets update to the recovery catalog.
Yes snapshot controlfile is created while taking controlfile backup.
Thanks

  • A theory about trees (ApEx 4.0) regarding save activated node

    Hallo all!
Can someone please confirm (or not) my theory about trees regarding save activated node in ApEx 4.0(.1):
With my first tree I tried to set a varchar2-value for the last selected node ... didn't work. After many tries I was succesful with changing this to a numeric value...
...Is this a bug or a feature? ;-)
    Btw.
Another supposing regarding the source-code of trees is that this can't be longer than 4000 bytes. Is this right?
And if so ... can I put a Funktion in there that returns the statement (like in classic reports, but with static row-structure)?
Hope this time someone out there is attends my thread.
    With kind regards...

    Hi,
Pre-Apex4 you could make use of the A1 and A2 columns in the tree SQL along with the tree template to conditional set the color of the node text. Does anyone know how to achieve this in Apex4? I've tried using the tree SQL shown below but this displays the HTML (SPAN tags) as text.
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
                when level = 1             then 1
                else                           -1
           end as status,
           level,
           '<span style="color:red;">'||"ENAME"||'</span>' as title,
           null as icon,
           "EMPNO" as value,
           null as tooltip,
           null as link
    from "#OWNER#"."EMP"
    start with "MGR" is null
connect by prior "EMPNO" = "MGR"

  • Settlement of internal activity cost to primary cost element.

    Hi Gurus,
My client has a  urgent requirement to settle the internal activity cost captured through Warranty order to a primary cost element (FI), also need an offsetting entry to another primary cost element against the first one.
Note: The value should flow to COPA also.
Please suggest the way through which it can be achieved.
    Best Regards,
    Ramakanta

When you do settlement of the order, you can post to FI all the balance of the order.
Just configure int he peroid end closing tab of the order the settlement cost element (P&L) and the g/l account (BS- offsetting)
For sure you can do this on a internal order, i don't know about warranty order (but shall be the same). Otherwise you can first settle to an internal order and then to the desired GL account.

  • Determine location of snapshot controlfile

    Hi,
Do you know how to determine the location of the snapshot controlfile, whatever your rman version is?
In 9i and 10g, I can do RMAN> show snapshot controlfile name;I wonder if this is possible in RMAN8i, since the show command does not exist.
I found out the X$ table where it is stored, x$kccfn and an internal query done by Oracle, select fnnam from x$kccdi di ,x$kccfn fn where ((di.disfp=fn.fnnum and bitand(di.diflg,8192)=8192) and fn.fntyp=0);, which provides the correct answer.
But it is not too much easy :-( Is there a recommended way to check it in 8i?

  • Internal activity material cost not displayed in report s_alr_87013558

    Hi all,
I have an material attached to the internal activity.
this internal activity is inturn attached to a network
which inturn attached to a WBS.
After the PR and PO creation of the material attached
the cost report s_alr_87013558 shows values in the
WBS element not in the network activity to the material
    was attached
How to catch the cost value to network activity instead of WBS elment
Can anybody have a clue why it is happening
    Thanks and Regards
    pv

    hi sreenivas,
    thank you for the suggestion
in budget report the actual and commitment value is pulled
to respective network activity or wbs element depending upon the account assignment category during the automatic PR
    creation from CJ20n
In my scenario during automatic PR creation it is Q(project make to order) instead of N(network).
Can you throw some light to this where in
i can generate auto PR with account assgnment category N
for a material attached to network through internal activity
    Note:
to catch the cost we also need to activate the cost rel indicator in purchasing doc tab for material in cj20n

  • Doubt regarding SHDB transaction

    Hi All,
I have a doubt regarding the Process Tab in the application tool bar of SHDB transaction. What is the use of the following check boxes?
    1)       Default Size
    2)       Cont.after commit
    3)      not a batch input session
    4)      END: Not a Batch Input session
    5)      Simulate Background mode

    Hi,
Basically these are the properties for CALL TRANSACTION using. You need not worry about these unless you really need those.
    1) Default Size: it will set the Default screen size for CALL TRANSACTION USING...
    2) Cont.after commit : it will set indicator that CALL TRANSACTION USING... is not completed by COMMIT. after commit also the process will continue
    3) not a batch input session: sets indicator that present session is not batch input
    4) END: Not a Batch Input session
    5) Simulate Background mode : session will be run in foreground. but similar to back grpund
you can see the documentation by placing the cursor on these and click f1.

  • Training and event management - Internal Activity Allocation for Attendees(PV18)

    Dear all,
I run the PV18 transaction (Internal Activity Allocation for Attendees). Lets imagine that I successfully allocated 1000 EUR in the CO module. Then I realize that it was a mistake, and I want  to correct this by sending -1000 EUR to CO.
My question is: how can I do that? Is PV18 capable of doing this? Or this has to be corrected manually in CO module?
    Thanks
    Nándor

    >>I tried to create it and the system generated a message about using the allowed name space.
if it is a warning message, I think, you can go ahead & create the HRTEM entry in TTYP table.. you can check if this will let you get past the Activity Allocation.

  • POC calculations of internal activity and service activities

    Hi,
I need some help regarding POC.
In the scenario, I am using two activities----Internal and service.
The internal Activity is used only for scheduling and confirmation of activities. There is a work center attached to it, but there is no cost attached to it.
The service activity is only related to cost.
Now, I want to calculate the POC for internal activity similar to the MSP i.e, POC calculated at the activity level will role up to give the POC at the WBS level ( this POC will  be related to the POC as per the confirmation of the work that is the actual % of completion).
To calculate the EV only the cost from the service activity will work. i.e, the actual cost which is coming from the RA Bill (ML81n) and the planned cost from the services in the service activity. So this POC will be different from the POC calculate in the internal activity confirmation.
How to map both the scenarios in the same project ?
    Kindly furnish some idea.
    Regards,
    A. Bose

    Hi Abhra,
You can use both activity types if required but I would recommed you to look up on the three types of activities so that you are able to choose the best option that fits your business requirement:
    1) Internal
    2) External
    3) Service
You can use confirmations for both service as well as internal activities. This will help you with your POC calculation as the values will be aggregated to the WBS level. I tried to inquire from you which EV method you are using because that may assist you in determining the POC of activities (either service or internal) based on specific requirements.
Now for EV to work you need to plan cost at the activity level for fair reflection (please note that this is also aggregated at the WBS level therefore if you do not plan cost at activity level, you will however get some estimated value at the WBS) of earned value. Based on your statements, I assume that EV is being calculated for the service activity correctly (as it has planned and probably actual cost) but not for the internal activity. I'm afraid without planned and actual cost, EV cannot be calculated. Have you tried using cost from the work center (which is assigned to a cost center)? You may use activity types in the confirmations as well.
Please let me know if this is what you were looking for.

  • Snapshot controlfile

    Hi folks,
what is the difference between snapshot control file and backup control file ?
    Thanks & regards.

    Hi,,
    For example:
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO ‘/oracle/ora10g/dbs/snapcf_test11g.f’
RMAN needs a snapshot control file when resynchronizing with the recovery catalog or taking a backup of the current control file. The default location is platform specific and depends on the Oracle home of each target database. In Linux environment it locates in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory. You can change its location with this configuration.
    For example:
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO ‘%F’
By default, RMAN automatically names control file backups and  saves them into FRA. To configure RMAN  to write control file backups to the specific directory:  %F will generate a unique filename likes  c-‘IIIIIIIIII- YYYYMMDD-QQ’ . Here  ‘IIIIIIIIII’ is DBID, ‘YYYYMMDD’ is date and  ‘QQ’ is hexadecimal id. You can also backup controlfile to specific location.
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO ‘ora_home/oradata/cf_%F’;
    Thank you

  • Best practises regarding Internal and External access to SIM

Currently we have two separate Active Directories one internal and one in the DMZ and plan to have one SIM on an segmented network allowing access for our internal users directly to SIM UI and external users thru portlets that talks to SIM.
The external AD hosts some internal users that also needs access to the DMZ applications so we can save efforts in managing to separate SIM environments in development, tests, upgrades, unique UID etc...
What are the best practices on the market is this a preferred choice with only one SIM or with one SIM internally and one SIM in DMZ hosting suppliers, customers etc?
With a single SIM environment are you allowing internal users accessing SIM from Internet to change internal AD password or have you restricted the functionality in some way for internal users accessing SIM from internet?
How about challenge response questions are you allowing users to have the same both internally and externally or setup different for different user interfaces?
Anyone willing to share how your environment is setup for internal and external access?

Yes for handling the access to the SIM we probably need to look into some kind of access management solution to get it to work in a secure way.
The question is a bit complex with many different factors controlling the outcome of the SIM implementation, but I hope to get some idées with this thread of how we can solve it.
The question still remains if its common to have one or to SIM's and what internal users is allowed to do in SIM from Internet.
Ex are internal users allowed to change their password in internal Active Directory thru SIM from Internet or what have others done to limit the functionality?

  • PS Workforce planning, Person Assignment in internal activity.

    Hello PS colleagues!
I’m trying to use the workforce planning functions but I can not get the screen for person assignment in the internal activity.
I have done this, IMG I go to this path:
Project System -> Structures -> Operative Structures -> Network -> User Interface Settings -> Layout of Activity Detail Screens -> Define layout activity detail screens
Then I create all tab, I copy the standard to my network profile and there is tab 8, in standard is call ”Admin.” then when I try it out it do not appear in the project, I use project builder.
Does any one what more I need to do for this to work??
Please help me out with this.

    Check the consulting note 543362
This note explains the steps/configuration node that needs to be in place for workforce planning

  • Doubts regarding WAN Network sizing formula parameters

    Hi
We have used the following SAP document - Front end requirements for SAP Business solutions
We have some doubts regarding the formula. Sometime we have the feeling it does not address very well issues as user's concurrency, WAN Optimization and contingency. However,  it might be only that we are not using correctly the formula, so we would like to confirm some information regarding the parameters.
    C = X * N * D * 0.25
    The parameters are as follows:
C: Bandwidth in kbps that is needed for the SAP GUI
X: Amount of data per dialog step in kilo bytes
N: Number of active users (independent of the number of sessions)
D: Average number of dialog steps per minute per user7
    Numerical factor: ~0.25 = 8 (kb/kilo bytes ) * 1.25 (protocol overhead) * 1/60 (min/s) * safety factor
1.58 (response time, peak load, different technologies)
The number of active user is the average number of concurrent users (from the total number of users) which are using the network? Therefore, we should calculate first the concurrent users number?
Does any body knows what is the reasoning behind the Numerical Factor and the safety factor? It is a contingency factor? It is related with a network bandwidth contingency?
    Has anyone apply WAN Optimization?
Has anyone apply any additional contingency measure additional to the safety factor?
    Kind regards
    Gonzalo Pérez-Prim

    Hi Gonzalo,
As you said, the number of active users is the mean number of concurrent users, since idle users don't normally need bandwidth.
I think that safety factor is an estimated number provided by SAP engineers to increase the final amount, just in case you have different issues that could lead to a lower network transmission rate. As it's a general estimation, please take into account that the particular issues of your network can have some influence in the speed calculation.
Please take into account that maybe you want to switch the option "slow network connection" in SAPGUI, just to decrease the ammount of traffic between frontends and server.
    Hope this helps
    Best Regards

  • CN01 assign Material Component to internal activity

    Hello gurus;
In transaction CN01 / CN02 can I assign only one Material Component to internal activity without Bill of Material (BOM)?
It is possible? How can i do?
    Best regards,
    Mariano

    Virendra;
    Thanks for your response.
I saw the SAP Help portal in [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_46c/helpdata/es/4c/227a7746e611d189470000e829fbbd/frameset.htm]
and I must use a Bill of Material to assign material component. There is no other choice
This is the point where I disagree with SAP, cause the client says that they use Operational Networks, cause it's more simple to assign components to activities.
    Best regards.

  • Define Cost Elements Range for Internal Activity Allocation

    Dear All,
I have the following scenario, for SAP standard they have defined the Secondary Cost Elemenets 641000 - 641999 as the Internal Activity Allocation.  I would like to ask where in SPRO configuration can I change this range with my own custom Secondary Cost Elements 400000 - 499999.
    Thanks

I have not come across any SAP standard number range. They are client specific.
Also your question regarding number range for Secondary cost elements is not clear. For creation of same you dont require any number range I suppose.
Number range in SPRO can be maintained in KANK
