Down-level Poster.png just a white box on IE8

Hi everyone,
I've created a very simple Edge Animate banner consisting of a background image and two layers of text that fade in, it shows up perfectly in everything except for (understandably) IE8 and I assume IE7, all I see is a white box.
I inserted the animation via Dreamweaver using Insert/Media/Edge Animate Composition, it went into a "mainbanner" div with CSS:
#mainbanner {
          clear:both;
          width: 1000px;
          margin: 0 auto;
          border: 0;
          padding: 10px;
These code lines have been inserted into the <head> section of the Dreamweaver template and subsequent index.php page:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge"/>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
This code was applied to the "mainbanner" div by Dreamweaver after doing Insert/Media/Edge Animate Composition:
<!-- The following tag displays an Edge Animate Composition -->
<object id="EdgeID" name="EdgeID" type="text/html" width = "1020" height ="437" data ="../edgeanimate_assets/jb_mainbanner/Assets/jb_mainbanner.html" >
</object></div>
Don't know why the animation that has 1000px width has a width of 1020px shown in code when imported yet shows correctly as 1000px in the browser but hey!
I've checked that the down-level poster (Poster.png) I created has been linked to the animation; has been uploaded to the web server; is showing the appropriate static version of the animation but after one whole night of trying everything I can think of all I still get on IE8 is a white box!
Can someone please give me some help with this, many thanks in advance.
Chris

I've just made the Poster.png appear on IE8 by extending the CSS #mainbanner width to 1020px (despite the image being 1000px) and removing the padding temporarily. However two issues still remain:
The image is now not aligned with the header and footer so I need to insert padding again plus there is a still a white box behind the .png that I simply don't want!
At least I have made some progress since waking up this morning with a fresh head!
How can I remove the white box that looks like a placeholder behind the static png on IE8?

  • Down-level Poster capture not working in version 1.0

    I click on the capture poster and the software does nothing.  Edit down-level state shows nothing is set up.  I need to capture the poster image for a down-level state for IE8.  Why isn't this working all of a sudden?  Does someone know a manual/coding workaround for me to implement?  I can import my own image file to the library, but have no programming knowledge whatsoever.  Thanks!

    Hi, lsmith-
    Any chance you're trying this on an unsaved file?

  • No video, just a white box

    Hi, I've had a good look through this forum and have made
    sure that I have done the following when uploading flash video:
    1. Insert .flv file into web page.
    2. Upload .flv file to internet via ftp.
    3. Upload Script folder with "AC_RunActiveContent.js" inside.
    4. Upload web pages along with "flvplayer_progressive.swf"
    and "clear_skin_2.swf".
    5. I have enabled .flv in MIME settings of web host.
    However, all I get when I go to one of the pages with a video
    on it is a white box, the video doesn't load.
    You can see what I mean if you click on one of the videos

    Best regards, Matt.
    EDIT: thought I should add that I've played all the .flv
    files in VLC Player and they all work fine.

    PC with FF 2.x, IE6 and Safari 3x - works for me.

  • Suddenly I can't view imbedded video on any site!...just a white box!

    Recently I lost all ability to view videos on the web through Firefox 13. Videos still work fine w' IE and Chrome and YouTube still works. But w' imbedded video on Yahoo, news sites etc. I just have a big white space. I've also noticed that some adds don't load (perhaps they're video clips as well) and are also a blank white space. Is there a plug-in or extension required for this? I tried downloading new versions of Adobe Flash but I'm not sure how, or if, it installs into Firefox. I'm not sure what changed. All used to work fine.....not sure what changed.

    Do you have the newest Flash plugin, version 11.3, released last Friday? Check out this new support article: [[Flash 11.3 crashes or does not load in Firefox 13]]. Does anything there help?

  • DW4: FLV Video Showing as White Box

    I am trying to read through all the past posts, but need to get this out to a client quickly and haven't yet found an answer to my issue.
    I had an .mp4 file that I converted to .flv using Media Encoder. I inserted the .flv file per instructions. I now have the .flv file , along with the clear_skin_1.swf file and the flvplayer_progressive.swf file in one folder. The expressinstall.swf and swfobject_modified.js files are in the scripts folder. I have loaded them both to my server. Upon viewing in browser, all I get is just the white box.
    Here is the link: http://chameleoninteractive.net/clients/isca/isca.htm
    Could really use the hold on this. Oh! and just ignore the video underneath...it is a placeholder and altogether different.

  • White Box on Start-Up..

    After seemingly updating from 9.0.4 to 9.1 fine, upon restart, and where I get to the area where Finder is supposed to load, I get just a white box. It's reminiscent of the type of alert box that comes up when you're attempting to force quit an application in OS 9, but there's no text or buttons in it.
    There's also the little "waiting" watch icon, but it doesn't appear to be spinning. The mouse moves around fine though.
    The machine starts fine with Extensions off, but I don't know where to go from here. I even tried just doing an OS 9.1 Base configuration of extensions. Is it possible to perform a Firmware Update from safe mode? I just need to get this machine running OS X, and I have the firmware update on CD. However, the machine doesn't seem to notice that I have the CD put in the drive in Safe mode.
    Help!
    Brian

    Hold down the Shift key as the last extension loads; if your issue is with the Finder, this may enable it to boot correctly. If not, create a new extension set with only the Apple CD/DVD Driver and Foreign File Access enabled, restart your computer again, and then copy the updater to your hard disk. Try running it from there.
    eww: Brian is working on an iMac DV SE; this is the other computer listed in his system information further to the right, and can boot into Mac OS 9.04 and 9.1.

  • White box syndrome!

    Hi all. I am working with InDesign 2014 CC. Lately, I have had trouble with my display. When zoomed out, all objects appear in place, like they should be.
    However, when zooming in to at least 50%, the document just displays white boxes where the objects and text should be.
    This has never happened to me before, and I've been working with InDesign for quite some time. I have tried resetting my preferences, but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this annoying bug? Another thing of note, when I recreate the document, and drag in the objects and text boxes, or copy them from the weird buggy document to a fresh new one, everything displays as it should.

    Hi Ryan,
    If the problem only occurs in one particular document, and elements copied into a new document display OK, then surely it is the original document that is corrupted. Have you tried exporting to IDML to clear the corruption?
    Regards,
    Malcolm

  • White box where Flash should be

    Hi,
    I don't know if anyone could help me on this (I'm not the main programmer of our company's website) but just the other day we noticed that the main flash animation on our company's website (www.afhu.org) didn't display on some browsers, notably IE6.   It works on IE8, FF, Chrome etc.  What the user sees instead of the animation is just a white box the size of the flash object.
    I believe the flash lines from the homepage are as follows;
      <!-- BEGIN: main column -->
      <div id="MainColumn">
        <div class="Column" id="LeftColumn">
        <img src="files/rothbergampitheater.jpg" width="478" height="478" alt="rothbergampitheater.jpg" title="rothbergampitheater.jpg" />
      <p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer">Get Adobe Flash Player</a></p>
      </div>
    <script type="text/javascript">
      var so = new SWFObject("/sites/all/themes/afhu/flash/afhu.swf", "mymovie", "478", "478", "8", "#EEEEEE");
      so.addParam("wmode", "transparent");
      so.write("LeftColumn");
    </script>
    I've seen postings on the web referring to this but most seem older.  I'm not sure if this issue has always been with us or is new.  We haven't changed any code recently and I would think we would have seen it before but perhaps not.  Can anyone tell me from the code above (or from our website, www..afhu.org) if the Flash coding looks 'correct'?  Thanks $1mil.  !

    you must have some code adding swfobject.js to your html but other than that your code looks ok.
    but it's an older version (1) of swfobject.   you might want to update to version 2 and see if the problem is resolved or, read about swfobject issues with older browsers and see if this is something that's been fixed with version 2.

  • Pngs flicker and appear as white boxes when scrolling down page in Chrome 37.0.2062.120 m

    Hello,
    I have noticed that pngs flicker and appear as white boxes when scrolling down the page in Chrome 37.0.2062.120 m in windows only. Chrome on the mac is fine and this issue doesn't occur on the windows version of chrome canary. It would appear that the pngs are reloading when I scroll.
    There is alot going on in this animation, I am going to sprite most of these pngs to reduce sever requests which may help, but im certain this isnt the root cause of this issue.
    Has anyone come across this issue before?
    Please link to the animation in question here.
    Any advice much appreciated. http://new.oliverrice.co.uk/oliverrice.co.uk.html

    So I have created a sprite for the majority of the png's that form my symbols. This has reduced the total number of sever image requests from over 70 to 5. this has worked really well and feel adobe could add a feature that creates one sprite from all the images within the library. The animation seems to run a lot faster than before and loads much quicker.
    I am however still experiencing the problem mentioned above in chrome 37.0.2062.120 m.
    The animation also runs slowly on the I pad and I phone which I guess is down to memory usage? The animation wasnt intended for the iphone, but it would be nice to see it run on the ipad.

  • Creative Cloud App just showing blank white box! Cannot install Photoshop

    I'm trying to install a Photoshop trial - have followed instructions to install the CC app. The icon appears on my desktop and a Creative Cloud folder appears in my Explorer folder but when I click on the CC app, all I see is a white box.
    Occasionally, I have managed to get list of apps to show - but when I click on the "Try" button next to Photoshop, again it goes to a blank white box. Can't do anything! No spinning icon showing that something is loading - just blank white.
    Very frustrating. Just want to download the trial so I can decide if I want to buy. Am on Windows 8 (64 bit). Have tried uninstalling and re-installing using a different browser (Firefox & Chrome) but still same result.
    Please help!!
    Thank you,

    Hi again Jeff - I just read on a similar thread that another user had the same issue with blank CC app and realised the problem was her username having an ampersand "&"
    I have an ampersand also in my username on the computer - do you think this might be affecting the issue?
    She gave instructions for changing the username (although the link is for Win 7 and I'm using Win 8) - but I'm nervous about changing big system things like that. What happens to "permissions" on certain folders - am I likely to be locked out of making changes in certain folders?
    Here is what she wrote on that thread:
    If you have ampersand (&) or other non-alphabet characters in windows user folder name (Example: C:\Users\Bob & Mary), then Flash Builder will fail to install (happened to me), Creative Cloud will display white screen, and/or other miscellaneous problems.
    I confirmed this to be true and works:
    1) I had blank Creative Cloud window as shown in the first post.
    2) I renamed the display username and window user folder name by doing the instructions here:
       http://www.ghacks.net/2011/03/28/how-to-change-a-windows-account-name-and-user-profile-fol der-name/
       (Example: Change from "Bob & Mary" to "Bob n Mary" - without the quotes)
    3) After logging back in my newly renamed account, I opened Creative Cloud and login interface shows up! :-)
    I would prefer not to do this if you have another suggestion? But just thought I'd mention this as well to see what you thought.
    I have also since tried uninstally CC, deleting both the OOBE folder and the AAMUpdater folder, then re-installing CC again... same result. I always get to the list of Apps fine but the minute I click on the "Try" button next to Photoshop, the whole App window goes to a blank white screen and freezes.
    Thank you.

  • Help! When in "graphic watermark" setting, how do I remove white box around my watermark? Already saved in PNG

    I'm trying to upload a saved graphic watermark to my photos in Lightroom 4 but no matter what I do, I can't get the white box around the watermark to go away. I've already tried saving the watermark file in PNG like other sites suggested but it does no good. Other sites tell me I need to save the watermark in another version of adobe and check the box "transparent" but Lightroom is the only version of adobe I have. Any help ASAP would be greatly appreciated!!!

    I have also been trying to solve the same problem.  Where does one take an already created watermark and make it transparent?  I have Photoshop on my old Mac and e-mailed my solid white background watermark to myself, opened it in Photoshop and "erased" the white background.  Transfered it back to my Lightroom on my MacBookPro and exported the test photo w/ the "erased" background watermark.  I had no idea if it would work….it did not.  OR : How does one create a transparent watermark?  I have a graphic I want to use w/ my name.   Please HELP!!!

    Hi,
    I have taken a look at your .fla and seems your source file name is not matching with what is available(Bob_Dickson.f4v) & what is specified(Bob Dickson InterviewH264.f4v) in the Component Inspector panel. Either rename your movie from "Bob_Dickson.f4v" to "Bob Dickson InterviewH264.f4v" probably the easiest way or change the Source name for your flv playback component in Component Inspector panel to "Bob_Dickson.f4v" and re-publish the swf.
    Hope this helps
