Downloading in excel from sqvi report format in the background

Dear All,
We have developed couple of report using SQVI format for couple of reports. Now for those reports my client wants to download them in excel sheet and attach to the email, when email is triggered automatically to the specified email id's. This is urgent issue which need to be given b this week end. Thanking everyone in advance for your replies.

Hi,
Get the report name in selection screen of SQVI, something like AQ30SYSTQV000002MARA==========.
Create a new job in SM36 with a step with this report
In this job add a SPOOL Destination with defined email or list of emails
When job is executed the spool will be automatically sent to the mailing list. If email attachments configuration is to generate an attachment in html format, that html can be saved from Outlook to local disk and opened in excel, as many html files.
If you want something more professional you'll need to create a program in ABAP that actually does the same as the SQVI but creates a file in excel format, using abap2xlsx probably, and then sends it to the distribution list.
Most excel functions in SAP requires the Excel in the frontend computer, so they cannot work in background or in the server side. abap2xlsx is useful in this cases.

Limit the number of record to download to excel from a report

I am just wondering if there is a way to limit the number of rows that I want to download to excel from a report in apex, right now when I click download to excel it downloads all records. If I am displaying 15 records on report page I want the ability to download only those records.
Any help with that would be appreciated.

The same report query runs for downloading the data into excel, I don't think you can limit the number of records in download.
You can achieve it using custom code, like on click of download excel redirect to another page and then restrict the data as per your need, or you can use the custom procedure to download the limited data.

Download to excel from web report generated through ITS

We were on SAP 4.6B. We have several abap reports for which we have a web interface using ITS. On the broweser output we have provided a URL which reads 'Download to CSV file' . This has been achieved by modifying the function www_get_report. The mod first generates a unique filename and exports the name to the memory and generates the hyperlink. The abap report program ftp'ies a the csv file to the ITS server path as in the URL.
Now we have upgraded to ECC 5.0 and we want to achieve the download to CSV option without the modification. What would be the best way to achieve this in the netweaver platform.

How to avoid the "filter cells" during download to Excel from WAD

How can we avoid seeing the "filter cells" in the link:

which we have every time a Bex query is downloaded to Excel from Web application designer?
The objective is to find a way to avoid the filter cell rows from happening period.... and not asking the users to manually delete the excel rows.

You can achieve this by formatting your output using HTML table tag.
Try the following code.

i'm using below method to dowload to excel from frontend (Backened is R/3).
1) l_string will have the entire xls date ( with sepeartor cl_abap_char_utilities=>horizontal_tab and cl_abap_char_utilities=>newline)
2) Converitng string to xstring using FM SCMS_STRING_TO_XSTRING
3) pumping excel date to browser using IF_HTTP_ENTITY~SET_DATA
4) creating URL using GUID_CREATE fm.
it's downloding the excel file but funny date.
example
percentage 1.5 coming as Jan 50 and Percent 3.5 coming March 50.
How to avoid this funny conversion.

Does the track play correctly in Quicktime Player? If it does then it is an iTunes issue. If it doesn't then it is possible the file was not completely downloaded, or is corrupt.

Its better to use DMV's to view only active sessions from users (spid>50) as mentioned by Shanky.
You can do that using sp_who2 but it requires a bit of programming to list only user sessions.

Stop download to Excel from converting string of digits & dashes into date

Hi,
How can I stop BI and Excel data from converting a column of string data that is comprised of numbers and dashes into a date format when it is downloaded into Excel?
I'd like to solve this problem in BI, so that any users can download the data from a BI report into Excel without having to change the Excel date column back into a string column.

hmmm... That is very interesting. I just tried on OBIEE 10.1.3.2 ( a version before yours) on Windows XP with Office 2003 and an Oracle 11g DB backend and it did not have any problems pulling the value as text and not a DATE
Can you try something for me? In a new report, add any old dimensional (year, month name, etc) field twice into the report and change the second column formula to be following: '7001-2'
Try to export that report and see if that value comes through as text or a date. If it is something about the SQL server data set, then the above test should come through as text object in your excel download because we aren't pulling it from SQL Server, we'll creating it directly in OBIEE. If the above test does come through as a date, then it should mean that SQL Server isn't the issue. And if that is the case, I am starting to wonder if there's a setting in Office to can be enabled/disabled to avoid any data casting.

Is it possible to download to excel when a report running in background

I tried to execute one ALV report in foreground and background. In foreground the report is giving excel download but in background no excel download is coming. Is there any specific reason for that?

If you wnat to download excel in back ground
You have to download in application server only.
EX:

OPEN DATASET v_filepath FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE.
    IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
     LOOP AT i_errors_bat.

                       INTO v_string.
        TRANSFER v_string TO v_filepath.
      ENDLOOP.
   CLOSE DATASET v_filepath.
Note : you can download in presentation server also.
but it requires lot of authorizations and have to use
FTP commands.
Reason is Apllication server in back ground has to
recognize the from which system request came.
Better go for OPEN DATA sets.
Don't forget to reward if useful.....

I am downloading the data from an internal table to excel file using FM gui_download. The date field in my internal table is in the format MM-DD-YYYY (stored as Char 10 field). But when it downloads to excel, the date format changes to MM/DD/YYYY. I want to keep original format of MM-DD-YYYY in excel.
Please help, sure points for helpful answers.
should i use FM gui_download only, or is there some Other useful FM.

Issue with Data download to excel from ALV

I am trying to download data to excel from ALV.
The number of records are 26000.
When I am trying to download I am getting an error displaying a pop up saying that
problems came up in the following areas during the load
TABLE
The log displayed is not clear.
I need to know the limitations while downloading to excel... I tried in SDN but of no use. I am using office 2007.
What is the max downloading limit(MB)
What must be the Length of line that can be downloaded.

Hi ,
First check whether your ALV grid OUTPUT is Consistent or Not .
if there are any inconsistency then you need to rectify that .
for Checking COnsistency / Inconsistency .do following steps
1) execute ALV report
2) Press Shift+Mouse Right Button (Twice) in blank area of report
3) you will get result whether ALV is good or not .
