Droid Charge Issues

I have only had my Droid Charge for 2 months and I absolutely hate it!  It locks up all the time and I have to take the battery out.  Then it switches to 3G where I live.  Now, it won't charge.  I charge it every night.  Charged it last night, barely used it today and it's almost dead.  It's been on the charger for 2 hours now and is still showing a dead battery.  I have about had it with this phone.  Of course Verizon is absolutely no help!  They're the ones that talked me into this phone.  I wanted the Iphone and they said this one was way better.  It's a piece of crap!!!

I haven't had the opportunity to read through all of the Droid Charge Issue posts but it appears that we are ALL having similar problems to an extent....
I have had my charge since May and if memory serves me correctly, I had it replaced once within the initial month or so of having it
I have ALWAYS had an issue with 4G coverage..I've always been told that it's due to a lack of a connection in my area but friends in my home are able to get 4G service and I can in certain parts of the home. I was actually getting 1X service which is just RIDICULOUSLY unacceptable for what I paid for this phone.
Lately the 4G/3G service in my home has not been AS BAD but still is not great. I never had a signal at work and was told it was due to the structure of the building as the service was designed to work outdoors, really?? so I'm going to sit outside and make phonecalls and get the internet connection I need?! umm  NO.
my Biggest complaint recently has been my phone freezing, the screen during off during a call in which i need to use the dialpad and cannot get the screen to come up and the CHARGE's inability to CHARGE!!!! When I use my wall charger (YES the SAMSUNG charger that came with the phone) or a cigarette lighter charger in my car the phone goes back and forth from charging to not charging. I have to move it a million different ways for it to charge and cannot guarantee that it will charge during the night. Due to the nature of my job and the situations that I am put into while at work, I need my phone to be RELIABLE and CHARGED at all times! I cannot deal with this charging issues. It was not happening as recent as two months ago. I noticed that my car charger worked fine and then one day would bring up the message asking if I want to access the media or mass storage instead of charging it. The mere sound of the beeping going from an uncharged to a charged state every second without any movement is making me what to end my contract.
Verizon needs to do something. I have not turned my phone in yet because I am NOT WILLING To pay all of the money that I do to be sent a REFURBISHED phone that was turned in for the same issues!
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I was also talked out of buying the iPhone back in May (of course theres little profit on them for VZW!)

  • Samsung Droid Charge 4G issues

So, so far I have had a lot of issues with my Samsung Droid Charge.
4G has been extremely spotty. I have been in both 91304 and 94598 zipcodes. Both areas where there is supposed to be solid 4G coverage. Sometimes the phone will go an entire day constantly on 4G, sometimes it will be on 3G for hours at a time without going to 4G. Sometimes it will go to "1x" and will not let me go on the 3G network.
I went to the Verizon wireless store today and they swapped my simcard to see if that improves it, but it has not.
Sometimes I go to the system selection and i try to select "CDMA mode" and then select "LTE automatic" to reset it, and it will get 4G again, but only for a brief while and then it will go back to 3G.
Sometimes I will also just not be able to get any data connection for awhile as well, not even 1X, not 3G, not 4G.
Does anyone else have these issues with this phone?

I don't think is the phone itself but your location, I too purchased the Charge 4G and Verizon also said that my ZIP was in a solid  4G area....but the area is really about 10 miles radius around downtown, checking by ZIP is just Verizon advertisement and really does not work, that is a place where you can check using your actual address. Check where is the nearest antenna  from where you are is also a good idea, goggle "search for cell tower"
I only get 3G here, it works fine on 3G  at speeds +/- 770 kbps down and 800 kbps up and  fast when I am the very VERY SMALL 4G coverage 23220 kbps down and 4700 kbps up...but funny thing is, the REAL speed difference accessing Internet sites is just noticeable but not as fast as I was expecting...my DSL loads as fast as the 4G with only 6500 kbps down, go figures
You are never going to notice speed differences in general on small files. The real tests will be how fast LARGE files download. like a 100MB game vs. 512KB picture. The picture would load just as fast whether 4G or 3G with very little time difference, but the game you would see a drastic difference.

  • DROID Charge Bluetooth Sync With Acura TSX (Handsfreelink) issues

I have an Acura TSX 2011 w/Tech Package. I have a lot of trouble with pairing this Samsung Charge with the TSX. I had samsung Omnia Previously and there were no issues with pairing that phone with this car. However, Samsung or Verizon must fix this issue completely for Samsung Droid Charge, or I have to pursue legal channels to obtain compensation. There is no way I am letting verizon or Samsung off the hook.
If I can't use Bluetooth (one of the most basic functions now on any Smartphone) I have to either hold my phone in my hand while driving or use speakerphone (also have to hold that while driving). In Connecticut, it is illegal to drive while on the phone at the same time. If Verizon cannot get this issue fixed, then I have to report this to the Attorney General and seek legal remediation because verizon is legally obligated to provide phone that supports handsfree in Connecticut and that includes Bluetooth.
Hopefully someone at verizon is reading this.
    Good Day!

Ok I do not have a 2010 TSX tech but I tried it in a 2011 TSX tech and guess what! it worked on that one also. I would like to reflect back to when I was all over this forum complaining about my Bluetooth issues. I have a Pioneer navigation system in my car that has bluetooth calling and audio capabilities. When I was swapped out from the Thunderbolt to the Charge I was very disappointed to find that my new Charge would not work on my Pioneer and my Thunderbolt was perfect. I excepted it because I hated the Thunderbolt so much at the time because I just wanted a phone with a good data connection and no rebooting. So after sadly entering my car for weeks on end without being able to use my bluetooth audio I just decided to try it again. This time magically it work and has ever since. The VZW peeps were glad to hear this because it would be one last thing I was jumping down their backs about but I was sadly disappointed that they didn't take an interest as to why weeks later I have a connection. This seems to be the case also with these TSXs because I drove a few and again was angry that they didn't work but today as I go out and try to give you a gleam of hope I find that ( aside from some slightly poor audio quality ) the dang thing is working. So I guess it's up to the Samsung Bluetooth gods to decide if they are going to grant you your Bluetooth wishes. Wish I was more help but it looks like you're either going to have to deal with it, get a different device, or pray for a cure.
ChristinaB_VZW From what I gather from all this is maybe when you send this info to product investigations tell them to try a new device and not one that has been used. Just a thought but even a used one should have the popping crackeling noise coming through. So I guess there are two issues. Thanks G

  • Droid Charge Many Issues

I have been having a lot of problems with my Droid Charge. I was wondering if other people are having the same issues? This is my first smart phone so I am new to smartphones.
Here are the issues I have been having.
    1. 4G 3G reception is not consistent. I have been in areas (zipcodes 91304 and 94598) where 4G coverage is solid, but my phone is always down on 3G, and sometimes will even go down to "1X" when other friends around me are on 3G. Sometimes I restart the network connection by going to CDMA and then back to LTE and sometimes this will work, sometimes it won't.
I went to the Verizon wireless store today and they replaced my simcard. This has not helped however.
    2. Charging using laptop - the phone charges extremely slow, but this isn't the issue because I heard this is normal. One time while charging off my laptop, it got really hot, not sure if it was the screen or battery or both, but the screen no longer accepted touch inputs. I couldn't even hold down the power button to restart or shut down the phone properly. I was afraid it would continue to get hotter, so I had to just unplug the battery to shut off the phone.
    3. Charging in my car using a power inverter and a wall charger (the one that came with the phone) - when I do this, the screen goes wacky, and will not accept my touch inputs, or the puzzle piece you use to unlock will go somewhere my finger totally isn't. I have to unplug the phone in order to get touch input/control back. - this issue was solved by buying a car charger, but I have never had any electronic device that had issues with a power inverter before, cell phones, laptops, TV's, they were all fine so I don't understand why this phone can't use it.
    4. Also, while using GPS, sometimes the phone shows me in a part of town 3 miles away from where I am, and then after a long time, like 5 minutes, it will get my location correct, after jumping around for awhile. I'm not sure if this is normal.
Has anyone else had these issues and no how to alleviate them?

I'm beginning to think that "Rule the Air" is the BIGGEST LIE in the wireless world or at least, with the Droid Charge.
I work in zip code 10041, live in zip code 10036, and work out in zip code 10019. My connection speed regularly drops to 1x or no connection. Sometimes, my phone displays 4G but takes minutes to load Google or return search results.
My associate who sits next to me  has the same experience.
I've read in other forums that the Dord Charge seems to have WEAK 4G radio (especially compared with the Thunderbolt). Some suggest there's a firmware issue as well.
I've mentioned this to a tech service rep who confirmed I shouldn't have connection issues in my area. He also recommended shutting dow the phone every two days. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Also, I've noticed that the battery is draining faster now (after jsut 1 month of use). I usually end up charging my phone at noon at in late afternoon.
I wish I could still return this Droid Charge.

  • Need help with Droid Charge camera shuting off phone

We have two droid charge phones that we got in April on Amazon.  We are trying to troubleshoot with Samsung and getting not much help.  Phone dies quickly at times, but not other times.  It consistently shuts off when taking pictures, though, on both phones.  It is clear to us that the phone has a problem because we have two.  I've seen two work-arounds.  One is getting a bigger battery that requires a new larger phone back.  The other is to put the phone in Airplane Mode.  Apparently, this problem is due to a "power load" issue.  So, the phones are inherently defective.
We like the phones and at brief times we have been fooled into thinking they are working fine... because once in a while the camera works fine. We haven't had any replacement phones because it seems that so many have this issue and therefore, figured what is the point.  We would like to know if other Droid Charge cameras don't have this issue because we expect to be able to use the camera.  We have 3 little boys and we already have lost pictures from the last day of school because we counted on this phone.  Sounds like a small problem until you look at it that way.
Really wish Amazon, Verizon or Samsung could get us a good solution to a seemingly nice phone.

Nolpost and smsmoot, I’m sorry to hear of the issues you are having with the phone shutting off when using the camera. This is no fun! I use my camera often and would hate for it to reboot my phone every time I use it. I can only imagine how frustrating that must be. But don’t worry guys because I’m here to help!
How long have you guys had this issue? Does it happen every time you use the camera? Did you notice this started after the software update? If so, have you performed a hard reset http://bit.ly/w21WpW since the update?
If you have already performed a hard reset and are still experiencing this issue, please send me a DM with your name and mobile number so I can access your account and further assist you.
I look forward to hear from you guys.

  • Any Chance Droid Charge (Samsung SCH-I510) Will Get Another OS Update?

I received the Charge, free of Charge (pun intended!) a little over a year ago.  They were giving them away for a 2-yr contract renewal, and I bit!
I've had the Charge for approx. 16 months.  During that time, I have received 3 OTA updates (FP1, FP5 & FP8).  I have also noticed several problems mentioned in these forums already.  Most notably, the problem causing me the most grief is when multiple instances of the phone are created (launched by me, after no activity after each app instance).  All app instances appear simultaneously, and the poor person on the receiving end of the phone call hears me talking through several phone apps simultaneously ... echoing like mad.  Usually, a reboot clears this up.
I should mention that this problem doesn't happen nearly as much since FP8 was pushed.  Don't know if that was a coincidence or not.  But the problem does still happen occasionally.
I recently had another critical issue happen.  All of a sudden, I was getting force closes from many apps simultaneously, including system apps (com.android processes).  The phone became unusable.  Factory reset didn't resolve the problem.  After doing some research, I found that I could push stock software and re-partition the memory space again through ODIN.  I did this, and had no success at first because the phone thought I was using a non-stock battery, even though nothing had changed with the battery (stock battery received with the phone).  After pulling the battery, and re-installing, and pushing the stock software w/ re-partition (pushed the original EP4D flavor of OS), the phone operated as it did when I first received it.  Verizon pushed the "OTA" updates (FP1, FP5 & FP8), and my phone was back to good-as-new performance.  Actually, the phone is quite snappy now.
Needless to say, I'm still concerned about the Charge.  I am not up for contract renewal until March of 2014, so I'm just planning on doing a factory reset whenever I have these problems.
I recently read an article, stating that a bug was discovered in Feb 2013, which allows many devices made in the last 4 years (since "Donut" flavor of Android) to be susceptible to a bug taking advantage of "Master Key".  It claims that a dev could unknowingly push an apk to the Play store, which is infected with this issue.  It seems to be a stretch.  Here's the URL to the article:
    http://tinyurl.com/kj63ae8
I have followed the suggestions outlined in the article, and found that the Samsung droid charge is susceptible.  However, I've read a bit on XDA, and found that this is not really a huge problem, as it requires a user to install an infected apk, which doesn't happen all that often.  It's a flaw in the OS which bug-devs are not actively taking advantage of, it would seem.
Here's my question, I know the few Droid Charge owners out there are still a bit hopeful that it will get an update to the Jellybean OS.  Any chance this is possible?  I for one, would love this!
    Thanks for your consideration.

  • Going deaf thanks to my Droid Charge screeching...

Have had my charge for about 4 months now, and off and on get the screeching reported by many Droid Charge owners.  At first, assumed it was a new kind of "digital static" associated with the 4G, but have come to find it is far from normal compared to other 4G phones.
Verizon refuses to fix, replace and continues to have me "wipe the phone"...
Just wanted to see how many other Charge owners were experiencing this deafening screeching sound to gather names for the class action lawsuit when we all go deaf from it.

    For VZW:
    Hardware version: i510.06
    Model# SCH-I510
Firmware version: 2.3.6 (no updates available)
    Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-FPI
    Build # SCH-I510.FPI

I have had the same issue since I bought the phone. My mom has the same phone and the same issues. We can never complete a phone call with each other! Either there is a horrible screeching sound, or one of us can no longer hear or understand the other due to distortion. I've contacted Verizon in store and by phone and they are absolutely no help. They used to have the best customer service and the ability to upgrade when a phone was a piece of crap. The people are perfectly pleasant, but Verizon has not provided the employees with an actual solution. Just a list of "cure-alls" that fix nothing. I may have to look elsewhere next time I get a phone since I have had this phone for over a year and the problem is not resolved. Unfortunate, since I have been with Verizon since 1999.
I'm about ready to chuck my phone out of a window!

  • Trouble charging Droid Charge

    I can't charge my Charge!
I've had this phone for about a year, and for the past few weeks, when I plug it into the charger, the phone doesn't always "recognize" that it's connected to the charger. Same with the USB to computer, as well as with other chargers. When I plug it in to charge, the phone constantly beeps, indicating that it's connecting and disconnecting every few seconds with the charging device. So, it's not getting a consistent charge and I can't get it up to 100% and the beeping is
Is it the Micro USB port on the droid itself? What can be done? I do not think that I caused this damage...

        Hello pru1979,
The low battery beep is certainly an unfavorable sound. I can just about imagine how frustrating it can be to not be able to hear the beep when plugged into the charger. It will be my pleasure to assist you with your Droid Charge connecting properly to the charger. May I ask are you using the original charger and battery that came with the device? Also, is there any physical or liquid damage on the phone? I suggest removing the battery and plugging the device into the charger without the battery installed. If you get an electrical feedback from the device’s screen then the charging port is functional and the issue may be the battery. If you do not get any feedback then the issue could be the charging port. In either case, I’m sure that we have a resolution for you once your provide the results of this testing. I’m looking forward to your next reply.
    Thank you…

  • Frustrated with Droid Charge

I have the 4G Samsung Droid Charge and I have horrible coverage!  It is so frustrating.  Even with WiFi, the apps stop constantly because of the poor coverage.  We even have that $200 antenna that is supposed to extend our coverage. My husband has the GZone Commando and his phone has excellent coverage sitting right next to mine.  There has to be something I can do.  Anytime I try to play a game or do anything, the apps close.  Is anyone else having issues with the Charge?  I would love to get some suggestions for fixing this.

When I stream movies or play games at work, it is on the charger the whole time.  I ran that speed test this morning and this is what I got – I think this is the problem –
WiFi (at home) – Download:  4919 kbps,  Upload: 4193 kbps and Ping: 46 ms
Verizon Network (at work) – Download: 1181 kbps, Upload: 122 kbps and Ping: 164 ms
Wow - I just ran it again at work so it's the Verizon Network and this is what I got:
         "Network communication issues"
    and again:
download: 4 kbps, Upload: 34 kbps and Ping: 207 ms
    I'm using speedtest.net
What should it be if I want to play games and stream movies?
Last night the game I was playing stopped and had to be restarted 8 times in 15 minutes.
    Thanks for your help.

  • So frustrated with Droid Charge and the Customer Service

Going to receive my 5th Droid Charge tomorrow!  Phone drops calls, phone shuts down when taking pictures, battery last for 2 hrs and there are no batteries in stock.  The CSR told  me to go to Amazon and order on and then Verizon will reimburse me...yeah, right!  Or they will give me a Thunderbolt which I checked out after I got off of the phone and it doesn't sound any better.  Can't understand why I have to settle for a phone that doesn't work most of the time.  I have never been late on paying my bill and expect better quality and service than I am receiving.
No real recourse...take it or leave it attitude when speaking to ALL Verizon employees!  They say they care but the service doesn't reflect their words.  Been a customer for over 17 years and hate to move to another company and sure don't feel I should have to pay to get out of a contract on a phone that I have to shut down and bring up again when I need to make a call or send a text.  SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!

  • Droid Charge Signal Strength after FP5 Update

I updated my Droid Charge this morning to FP5 and I noticed that I have half the signal bars that I used to.  When I had FP1 and I was home connected to my Network Extender I had 4-5 bars lit up, now with FP5 I only have 2 bars.  Anyone else see less bars after the update?

I've also seen this problem since I updated my phone last week.
In my office I always got 5 bars with the occasional 4 bar signal. Now I regularly get 2 bars there with a 3 bar signal once in a while. I checked with other people around me who have Verizon and they are still getting 4-5 bars while I'm standing directly next to them with 2.
I've noticed that when I'm outside in areas where 4+ bars were typical that I'll now get 1-2 and 1 is very common.
I even purchased a network extender for my home almost two months ago because the reception in my house was poor (typically 1-2 bars). That worked perfectly until I updated my phone. Now, I can be 5 feet away from the extender and my phone will suddenly drop to 1 bar for a little while. That never happened before the phone update.
I've also noticed that even when my phone says I have full bars on my network extender I have issues talking on the phone. The call doesn't drop, but the person can't hear me any longer and eventually calls back to try again. This is another problem that never happened while on the network extender prior to this phone update.
I have seen at least one issue where I got a voicemail without my phone ever ringing or reporting a missed call. That was a frequent occurrence at my house when I had poor reception before I got the network extender.
I have noticed that my data connection has been worse and that it at least seems that I'm more frequently in 3G where I would have typically been in 4G. I even had an issue the other day where the phone claimed it was in 4G but it would take several attempts to load any web pages. At that time I was standing next to someone with an IPhone and browsing freely on 3G to the same sites.
Now that my phone is often showing 1-2 bars I'm back to a situation where my battery drains more quickly - battery life was a major problem before I got my network extender. It seems that now the situation is flipped so at home the network extender seems to be working enough for that so the battery doesn't get killed, but when I leave the house I have to charge it midday to keep things running into the evening.
What can be done here? Is there any way to back out of this update?

  • Droid Charge Software Update

I thought this was a routine update. I installed it. Many problems. No benefits. Why? I called cust no service and tech no support and they said there is nothing they can do. They can't fix anything and they can't undo what they called an upgrade. Are they kidding? I called for a credit on a new phone. The rep said no and would not let me speak with a supervisor. I then got a call asking me to rate the service from 0 to 10. It was very easy to press 0.

Since the posting, I received a third replacement for my phone. So far it is the best working phone out of all of them. It occasionally freezes up and I have to do a battery pull to get it stable again. I'm just quite unhappy because I didn't really even want the phone to begin with. Verizon called me and said they wanted to give me the early upgrade last year so I was like fine, but it has been a nightmare. Then I am approved for an early upgrade by two different managers from call centers and am told that they need to call me back to do the order, but I never get called back. When I call back, I get diverted and the new person on the phone ends up just wanting to send me a replacement Droid Charge. Then I finally get someone who will give me the upgrade, but then am surprised to find out that by upgrading, I will no longer be able to keep my current contract.
I have been a Verizon customer for one hell of a long time and have never had an issue until this past month, and am exhausted from having to make so many calls to Verizon. If nothing is resolved with my account by the end of my contract period, I am going to someone else.

Why would they sell a phone that was defective?   Why do they not own up that the device did not and has not functioned?
Let me add some other issues I missed.
    7) Dials multiple times the same number.
    8) Dials the number minutes after trying to call a phone number
    9) constantly force closes applications.
    10) Battery life is non existent (I have bought at least 8 spare batteries)
    11) Slow to respond
Let me just post what I have done.
    1) I stopped by a store
    2) Called customer service
    3) tried to create a question in forum and verizon deleted it.

  • Droid Charge - dropping service, no incoming calls, screen freezing, going black...

This is my 4th Droid Charge. I've never been so disappointed. Nor have I ever needed one to work more. Not a good time to have a phone that just plain is not up to par.
This replaced a Fascinate, that I did not have problems with until Verizon did some sort of "download" on.
Ph #1 - literally acted possessed. Until the manager saw for himself after treating me like a mental case. ie "Well, set the screen time out for TEN MINUTES, if the screen keeps going black!" So he did & it went black, not to be "restored" without being turned off & re-started. Then, when it did "time-out" suddenly it went into V-Cast...no one was near it. It also would go into airplane mode...I could not retrieve voice mail; after entering the 2nd of 4 #'s, the screen went black.
Finally, it got replaced after then entire staff "witnessed" the phone I had to live with day in & day out. Guess the customer is always wrong....until proven time & time again, that the phione REALLY IS defective despite years of never complaining about a phone.
Ph#2 - I NEED the voice dial....I do. I travel in my work  I have appts. If I am going to be late  NEED to be courteous & call. While driving on the freeway, getting off & stopping only makes things ten times worse.  While in the cup-holder, I can tap that....say who to call...and viola...BUT....it immediately says "Turn phone off" ...then try again. Well. how many times can you do that?? I mean really. How many times are you expected to turn your phone off for an app that comes installed ON the phone & should work. Right??
Ph#3 - Would NOT hold the signal...AND Voice Dial did not work.... did not back up info....messages did not come through, nor did phone calls. {even in the Verizon Store!! NO SIGNAL...they erased my phone for the umpteenth time!!! Grrrrrrr]
Ph #4 - arrived with YouTube loaded...to "How to Use Your Android Phone" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No kidding.
Screen locks up. Screen goes black & phone turns itrself off. Will not hold a signal...calls not coming through....
I saw others are also having these same issues. VERY frustrating trying to do "business" from a phone that is totally uncoopereative & unrealiable.
    Very disappointed in this phone.

Steve, if the tech says get a replacement then that is what I would do.
But before I did, I would have them walk me thru a hard reset.
Sometimes that will help with ALL sorts of problems.
    Godd luck!
