Duplicate rows being eliminated from OBIEE reports...
Hi,
Duplicate rows are being eliminated from OBIEE reports even though I have not specified the 'DISTINCT' clause under the advanced tab of the answers request.
I read somewhere that this is a bug and the only solution is to include the table key column.
Please let me know if this is correct or if there is another solutiuon to prevent this issue.
Thanks in advance.
Hi user11935561,
I've also noticed this too. And I did one of two things in the past:
1) Yes, when applicable, I've added a unique identifier to the report so that duplicates were shown.
2) Sometimes when I hit this I had a situation of a few dimensions in a report (lets say CUSTOMER and PRODUCT) and a measure (let's say sales $). If the customer 1 bought product A at $10, and he bought it on two different days, I was only seeing the DISTINCT record coming through, i.e. I was only seeing CUSTOMER 1 PROD A $10 instead of $20. Then I went into the RPD and changed the aggregation rule of Sales $ from None to SUM. The sum would force a group by get the correct information back from the RPD. So make sure you have your aggregate measures defined in the RPD and that should help you get around some of these issues.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
-Joe

Link from OBIEE Report to BIP Report
I have a requirement in which I need to Create a Report in OBIEE and the values used in the prompts to execute the report in OBIEE needs to be passed through a link to BIP and Execute BIP report for selcted parameters.
The Report is working fine and I am able to pass the parameters from OBIEE to BIP but to make BIP Report function correctly. I have to apply same set of Parameters in BIP and they are visible in the header of the BIP Report.
Now the Requirement is to hide those parameters from BIP Report and BIP Report should run for the selected parameters from OBIEE dashboard.. On doing this the values passed from OBIEE are not getting filltered in BIP report and BIP Report is running for all records. Is there an alternate way to achieve this?if you are on 11.1.1.6 version you can do it i think .

Enhancements to Parameter Display Options
Enhancements to parameter display options include:
Support for radio button and check box display of values
Parameters that are defined as a menu in the data model can now be configured to display the menu options as a list of radio buttons or check boxes. Parameters configured to support one value support the option to display as radio buttons. Parameters configured to support multiple values support the option to display as check boxes.
New options for placement of parameters in the report viewer
Previously the report viewer always displayed the parameters in a horizontal region across the top of the viewer. In this release the display of the parameter region can also be configured in one of the following ways:
In a vertical region along the right side of the viewer
As a dialog
As a separate full page
New report viewer action button to show or hide parameters
This release adds an action button to the report viewer to enable users to hide or show the parameter region. This enhancement complements the new parameter display options. When report parameters are configured to display as a dialog or in a separate full page, the parameter display region is dismissed when the viewer displays the report. Use the Parameters button to redisplay the parameter region to make new selections.
Search added to menus
All parameter menus having more than a specified number of options provide a Search option. For more information, see Section 3.3.1.1, "The Parameter Search Dialog."
Option to remove the Apply button
Reports can now be configured to remove the parameter Apply button. In these reports the action of selecting a new parameter value automatically reruns the report. -
Execute query from OBIEE report
Hi,
Is it possible from an OBIEE report, after filtering records, to simply execute a (insert) query/function/stored procedure with this subset of filtered records (only id's are enough) as parameter ?
RegardsI'm first trying to count the checked boxes, to see if it is really doing the right thing.
HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT counts the checked ones, right?
so in my process i have:
begin
if HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT is not null then
:P80_TEST := HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT;
end if;
end;
but nothing is displayed in the field P80_TEST...
what is wrong?
Regards,
Sofie

Oracle tuning: How to find percentage rows being accessed from a table
Oracle recommends that full table scan on a large table is good if the number of rows being accessed is more than 20%. My question is how to I find out how many rows of the table is being accessed if I have a complex SQL which involves 10 other tables.
Hi,
there are two approaches to SQL tuning. One is to list all things that could possibly be wrong with the database, search for typical solutions, and try them all one by one.
The other is to find out what is taking all the time and work on it.
As I'm sure you've already figured by now, the first approach is unreliable, error-prone, inefficient. In one word, wrong. The only reason it's still around is because:
1) 10 years ago Oracle diagnostic tools weren't as advanced as they are now,
2) some people never learn
3) there's no way to stop these people from writing stupid things on the internet.
So forget all about these unreset HWM, low ratios and other dreadful things that could be wrong with your database code, and focus on things that are wrong. Follow instructions in this forum's FAQ to find the root cause of the problem (if you have questions along the way, post them here, we'd be happy to help). If this leads you to HWM, then fix it. If it doesn't, don't waste your time on it.
Best regards,

Would like to update a table based on 1 row being returned from a join.
Hi, hope you guys can help.
I'd like to update 1 rown that is returned from a join query. The following code returns 1 row.
SELECT pt.*, pv.* FROM
--SELECT pt.template_id, pt.property_code, pv.value FROM
property_template pt inner join
property_value pv on pt.template_id = pv.template_id
WHERE property_code = '500_URL';
Based on the row returned i'd like to update a column called VALUE from the property_value table.
I've tried the following code but it updates every row in the value column.
update property_value set value = 'http://10.14.64.170:8080/XTI/UPLOAD'
where exists
SELECT pt.*, pv.* FROM
--SELECT pt.template_id, pt.property_code, pv.value FROM
property_template pt inner join
property_value pv on pt.template_id = pv.template_id
WHERE property_code = '500_URL'
Any help with this would be appreciated. You need this
UPDATE property_value pv
SET value = 'http://10.14.64.170:8080/XTI/UPLOAD'
WHERE EXISTS (
SELECT 1
FROM property_template pt
WHERE pt.template_id = pv.template_id
AND property_code = '500_URL'
);Regards

Duplicate Networks Being Broadcast from my WRT54G (kind of)
When I search for networks to connect to I see both my SSID/secured network (despite broadcast of SSID being turned off) and I see an unnamed/unsecured network being broadcast with the same router MAC address. I'm positive that these are the same network, as I was using channel 11 and changed it to use channel 1 and both of these networks now show channel 1.
I have the latest firmware for my WRT54G ver.3 router and I've reset everything to factory defaults and reconfigured the router from scratch and it still broadcasts 2 networks. Any idea why?
Thanks!MAC addresses can be faked. Are you sure the unnamed/unsecured network is not coming from your neighbor?
As far as I know, there is no way a WRT54G can generate two different networks at the same time. Certainly, it is possible that software might give a network a double listing, but it should not be listed as both secured and unsecured.
In some systems, "ghost" network listings can stick around for a while. They generally represent some of the "test" configurations you had, before you reached your final network settings. These networks do not exist anymore, but they continue to be listed.
To get rid of them do the following:
Give your router a new unique SSID. Do not use "linksys".
Set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". (Note: I used to recommend setting SSID Broadcast to disabled, for security reasons, but newer cracking methods have made this old trick useless. Also, broadcasting your SSID makes it easier for your computer to find and lock on to your router's signal.)
Now go to your computer, to "Preferred Networks". Delete the network with your old SSID. Delete all networks with SSID "linksys". While you are there, delete any other networks that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.
Reboot your entire system.
Now reconnect wirelessly to your router. If you have trouble, go back to "Preferred Networks" and enter your new SSID, encryption method (if any), and key (if any). (Note: if you are using WEP, be sure to enter WEP "key 1", not the passphrase)
Now recheck for available networks. Be sure to click on the "Refresh" button. The unexplained networks should be gone.
If you still have unexplained networks, then you need to check other sources:
1) A wireless computer with the wireless card set to "Ad-Hoc" mode. (Did somebody from school loan your child a computer?)
2) Another wireless router plugged in. (Is you child having a LAN party?)
3) Your neighbor (or that guy parked in front of your house!) has a network with the same name and a fake MAC address.
Hope this helps.
Let me know how things turn out for you. -
Report Generates Duplicate Rows
Each,
I have a report which when generated and run as 9i report on Linux generates duplicate rows. Whereas the same report running on 6i client server works perfectly fine. Running against the exact same database.
The report generates a delimited CSV file.
On Client Server
Reports 6.0.8.12.1
Windows XP
On 3 tier
Reports 9.0.2.3.0
Red Hat Linux
Database 9.2.0.4.0
Examples Here. This line generated in client server.
Feb-06 ELDC DATA TRANSFER 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Yet on 3 tier 9i. Also note the asterisk.
Feb-06 ELDC DATA TRANSFER 0 0 0 0 0 ** 0 0 0
Feb-06 ELDC DATA TRANSFER 0 0 0 0 0 ** 0 0 0
Feb-06 ELDC DATA TRANSFER 0 0 0 0 0 ** 0 0 0
Feb-06 ELDC DATA TRANSFER 0 0 0 0 0 ** 0 0 0
Feb-06 ELDC DATA TRANSFER 0 0 0 0 0 ** 0 0 0
Feb-06 ELDC DATA TRANSFER 0 0 0 0 0 ** 0 0 0
Any ideas what is happening here. There are two ways you can work around this bug.
1. Layout Model/Main Section\Property Palette --Set Report Height - 9999.
Do this after you complete creating the layout. After completing the development of the report just change the report height to 9999
2. Set page height to 0 in the report .prt file and use that file name in system paratmeters. ( desformat - *.prt file ) You have to copy this file to the server if you are running web reports. This will take care of all your delimited reports.
To get rid of the asterisk try adding to_char for all the amount columns.
Also, the font on Red Hat Linux may not be an exact match to the font in the report. -
Crystal report returning duplicate rows - Linking issue?
Hello,
I know this is a commonly brought up issue - that duplicate rows are returned in Crystal reports for various reasons. In a lot of instances, where it's only a single row of data per case that I'm looking for, I'll move them to their own group. But that solution doesn't work here.
The tables and links used in the simple report I have are illustrated in the attached "Report Database Expert Links.jpg" file, and the conditions and report fields required as as follows:
Select Expert conditions:
{CLAIM_PERIODS.CPE_START_DATE} < Today and
{CLAIM_PERIODS.CPE_END_DATE} > Today and
{CLAIM_ROLES.CRO_START_DATE} < Today and
IsNull({CLAIM_ROLES.CRO_END_DATE})
Report Design fields (in Details section):
CLAIMS.CLA_REFNO, CLAIM_ROLES.CRT_CODE, PARTIES.PAR_PER_FORENAME, PARTIES.PAR_PER_SURNAME
So what this report is to do:
It looks for benefit claims which are live (have a CLAIM_PERIODS.CPE_START_DATE prior to today, and CLAIM_PERIODS.CPE_END_DATE after today), and for these claims gives a breakdown of all people in the household (everyone associated with that claim, where CLAIM_ROLES.START DATE is prior to today, and end date is null - to pick out those who are currently active in the household).
This works fine otherwise, but the issue is that each live claim can have either one or two rows present in CLAIM_PARTS and CLAIM_PERIODS (so could satisfy my first two conditions twice). For claims with only a single claim part active, I get each household member listed once. But when they have two claim parts active, I get eveyone listed twice.
Is there a way - either in how I'm linking the tables up, or how I'm arranging the report design, that I can have every household member only appear once no matter how many related rows there are in CLAIM_PARTS and CLAIM_PERIODS?
Many thanks in advance,
Sami
P.S. I don't seem to be allowed to attache image files to my post, but have embedded the content instead:Thank you very much Don - this is a feature I wasn't aware of previously, and is a big step in the right direction for me. Really useful.
In the report mentioned, this sort of works. It works very well on individual fields - so I could just "Suppress If Duplicated" on the forename and then remove duplicates on that column when exported to Excel (or simply bring in a unique field such as the party reference number and do likewise).
However, is there a way to get Crystal to do this for me? So to suppress the whole line based on whether or not I'm suppressing this one field?
Just applying "Suppress If Duplicated" to all fields at once seems to have slightly unpredictable behaviour - not suppressing every field in the row. So I experimented a bit with using the "Suppress" tick to do this, then applying a formula to it. But the closest I can get for the formula is something like:
- {PARTIES.PAR_PER_FORENAME} = previous({PARTIES.PAR_PER_FORENAME}) and
{PARTIES.PAR_PER_SURNAME} = previous({PARTIES.PAR_PER_SURNAME}) and
Which will only compare the current row with previous. Is there a way to do the same comparison but with all previous rows? -

There are in all 7 columns in the table where id is Unique Id.
The expected output is something like.

Eliminate duplicate rows from the report 6i output
Hi All,
I have generated a report output with the group by and summary options.
For Ex: report has num and amount columns
I had to sum the amount group by num
NUM AMOUNT
1 100
1 50
2 10
2 100
After group by and summary functions the report is generating the output as follows...
NUM AMOUNT
1 150
1 150
2 110
2 110
I want to eliminate the duplicate rows and want the output as follows...
NUM AMOUNT
1 150
2 110
I tried all the ways to implement distinct, but not able to.
I donot want to implement distinct on the query but want to perform at the report level.
Please help me in this ASAP.
Thanks,
VijayIt would be helpful if you post your query, should by something like
SELECT NUM, SUM(AMOUNT)
FROM TABLE
GROUP BY NUM
ORDER BY 1this would not create duplicates with your given example data. -

If you are using Pivot Table, try changing measures from columns to rows and see. I vaguely remember doing this would address your need

How to retrieve data from xml file into obiee reports
Hi all,
I've got a situation here. A xml file is stored as blob in oracle database table. Now i need to retrieve data/info from that xml file into obiee reports. How am i supposed to proceed with this ?I will go for a table function:
http://gerardnico.com/wiki/database/oracle/table_function
In two words, you can create a function that behave as a table. Then you create a function to pick up your xml, you parse it and you send back the rows.
I know that Oracle has also a library for XML files but I never use it until now.

How to Not Display Exact Duplicate Rows in Report
I have a report that displays many duplicate rows where all fields in several rows are exact duplicates. I would like to know how to make it so that the entire row does not show up if it is an exact duplicate of another row. Any ideas? Thanks.
I literally have been pulling my hair out for the past 3 days with the same issue. I'm new to SSRS. I created a new report where I basically only wanted to show order header info, but unfortunately, some of the info I need to show at the header
level is only kept at the detail level. So, when I linked the order header to the order detail (one to many) I got a duplicate row for every line that was in the order detail. I tried to group just by order number (thinking it would roll
all the dups up) but that didn't work. Doing a group on all the fields on the report did the trick.
I owe Mainiac007 a beer!!!! :) -
