DV PAL preset?

I have heard that there is something called the "DV PAL Preset" that you can select in Compressor, but I don't know how to find it in the program (to convert from NTSC to PAL)
Please help ASAP!

Any frame rate conversion or size conversion requires re-encoding. NTSC to DV PAL requires both size and framerate conversion.
As far as I can see, there is no default Setting for DV, but you can copy any of the existing settings to make a custom setting, and then set the file format to "DV stream", and select "PAL" as the format. Then make sure to enable Frame Controls and set Rate Conversion to "Best", and Duration to "100% of source". You probably also want at least "Better" Resize filter.
Please don't ask two questions about the same basic problem, and please search the Discussion group before asking. Chances are that basic questions like this have been answered before.
Cheers,
Bernd

  • 1080 50P PAL preset for MOV files recorded with the Panasonic GH3

Dear Adobe team and PE11 users,
With my Panasonic GH3 I'm recording 1080 50P MOV files. I bought this camera because the mov compression is much more easier to edit then AVCHD. There is already a solution for the (non english) premiere elements 11 software with a preset for 50P AVCHD files but I can't find any discussion about MOV files. Does anyone have the same problem and a solution (with a MOV 50p PAL preset). Untill now PE11 recognise the 50p files as HDV 1080 25i files in the project settings...
    best regards,
    arjan

  • PAL Presets for Blu Ray

i have a project shot on the Sony EX1 at 1920 x 1080 p. I want to export using ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER to 1920 x 1080 progressive 25 FPS. Most options are for US standards, when I click PAL it only offers interlaced.
If 1920 x 1080 Progressive 25 fps is not possible for blu ray, what settings do you suggest?

1080p @ 25 fps is not part of the Blu-ray spec. Call Sony and complain.

  • Microsoft DV AVI Pal Preset Poor quality after re-encoding

    Hi!
I have Dv Avi Pal video on timeline.
And I have noticed that If I export it to DV avi Pal it loses quality - red T-Shirt becomes more red.
But If I import that exported video and export it once again - it becomes more red.
Is it Mainconcept DV codec bug or what?
    Thank You!

DV, 1 TB of source material is around 80 hours. You can export from the same source material using AME to any format you choose without more than 1 gereneration loss.  So what is your problem?
Here is one example of exporting from the same source to 7 different export formats in one queue without further generation loss:
No need to intentionally create extra generation losses and no additional storage capacity required.
And exporting 4 hours - about 4 hours.
If your system takes around 4 hours to export a simple  4 hour DV timeline, that simply means it is time to get a faster system. Exporting a 3 hour single track DV timeline to DV takes around 21 seconds on my system in the best case, meaning no effects at all. With many effects and multiple tracks 3 hours takes less than 3 minutes.

Do not use H.264. Use Pro Res or send the timeline straight from Final Cut to Compressor an a PAL preset (or one that you make yourself.) I prefer sending out self-contained versions in case I need to re-rencode or want to make items for various formats.
Movie setting up Compressor *in case you need it) is [here|http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/compressor.mov] Make sure to use PAL and/or make sure you make your preset PAL

  • How to deliver PAL .mov

I need to deliver via FTP a 4min video in PAL format for broadcast.
    I'll be shooting in DVCPRO-50 (4x3).
Is there a way to convert to h.264 in PAL format?
I'm very familiar with compression, but have never had a request to deliver in PAL. Is this something the person receiving should be handling?
Thank you in advance for you help

Finish the project then drag the thing into Compressor. Under Advanced Standards conversion, you'll find the PAL preset.
    It will take a while.
Alternatively, Graeme Nattress sells a standards conversion plugin for FCP that is very well regarded. It works faster than Compressor and yields (reportedly) better results.
Or, take it to a post house that has the hardware to do the conversion.

  • Using Presets

    Hello everyone
I'm new to AE and slowly finding my way. After watching some good basic tutorials around the web I'm about to actually do something at last!
I'm making a short animated opening credit/ indent, about 5-6 seconds, which will be a standard clip I can load in to all our Pr projects from now on to open our movies. I know this is basic but to get going I'm wondering the best pre-set to use for this composition. We're in PAL country and our footage will generally be HD captured on a Sony Z1. Completed projects would generally be authored to DVD and played on a commercial player or the web. Would it be best to use HDTV1080 25 or HDV1080 25? Out of interest, when would I use preset HDV/HDTV 720 25 or the presets Cineon or Film 2k or 4k?
As I mentioned, I'm in PAL land but my settings default to NSTC HDTV 1080 29.97. It's no major deal but is there a way to default to a PAL preset? I had a look in preferences but I couldn't find an obvious solution.
    Hope someone can help.
    Ossie

    > Out of interest, when would I use preset HDV/HDTV 720 25 or the presets Cineon or Film 2k or 4k?
You would use those composition settings presets when your output was intended for one of the formats named in the composition settings presets.
See this page for information about choosing settings at the beginning of your work depending on what your output will be.
I very strongly recommend that you start here and work your way through the materials linked to:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/toddkopriva/2010/01/getting-started-with-after-eff.html
    > As I mentioned, I'm in PAL land but my settings default to NSTC HDTV
1080 29.97. It's no major deal but is there a way to default to a PAL
    preset?
The composition settings for a new composition should default to using the last set of composition settings that you used. Is that not happening? Or are you referring to a different set of settings, such as output module settings? Please be as exact as possible when asking such questions. Words like 'preset' and 'settings' are very vague; there are lots of different kinds of presets and settings.

  • MPEG2 MXF IMX PAL export problem

    Hello!
This is new for me (IMX PAL) so I do not know it is a bug or a simple user error.
    What went wrong? My steps:
    1. Export a video from AE in YUV 422 avi format
    2. Import it to PPro (Black Magic Design PAL preset)
    3. Export it to desired IMX 50 SD PAL MXF.
    4. Then import this MXF to recheck it before delivery.
I was shocked. Colors were altered in a strange way comparing with original video.
Trying to find out what is wrong I exported again to MXF but this time to XDCAMHD PAL preset and this time colors were OK (but of course not desired format). So it seams that only MXF IMX PAL is "affected" on my system. After this I decided to make a simple image of my problem.
This is one frame from timeline with composition of original bars and tone, exported avi YUV422, MXF IMX 50 PAL and MXF XDCAMHD 50 PAL.
All files imported back to PPro timeline and exported as a tga frame. You see, only IMX PAL is wrong.
This may be isolated to my system only so before contacting Adobe support I want to ask if somebody could check this for me.
    Thank You!
    Robert Falkowski, MM Studio.

May I ask again about my problem?
Almost one year later and now my local TV station insists on delivering IMX 50 SD PAL (via ftp) and still I have no workaround for color shift on export :/
Could somebody export 1 sec of  PPro CS5 timeline to .mxf IMX 50 SD PAL then import exported clip and compare it with timeline content?
Mind You, it has to be IMX SD, HD is ok.
I need an answer badly because I have not know if it is a Premiere CS5 error or only my sys problem.
BTW1: I do not know why Adobe support ignored me completely :/ Sad but true.
BTW2: Is there any (new) software to export/convert video to (.mxf) IMX 50 SD PAL format file?

  • Wrong capture presets & how to correct them

Ok, I've been a real dufus:
I have shot my material 25fps progressive, 16:9, PAL, DVCam. For reasons I can't comprehend I used the "DV PAL 48 KHz" preset and "Capture Now" to capture my whole tape, which was was successfully imported as 8 seperate clips due to (ordered) timecode breaks (using a Sony DSR-11 deck via "Firewire PAL" preset). I have created a sequence using subclips from those master clips.
    PART 1 - WRONG PRESETS?
I know I have to recapture my clips using the anamorphic setting, but rummaging around the "advanced" section of "Audio/Visual Settings>Capture Presets>DV PAL 48 KHz>Compressor" I noticed that the settings were 'interlaced' and the aspect ratio was set to 4:3. Should I change these to 'progressive' and 16:9 so I can capture/edit/output my film to same quality as I shot it?
PART 2 - CORRECTING THE PROBLEM
When I try to Batch Capture my original 8 master clips (with the new settings), it fails with the familiar "timecode error: end of tape reached" even though in 'Capture Now' FCP is meant to overcome my ordered timecode breaks with enough pre/post roll to allow me to recapture my clips. How do I get round this? I have seen a suggestion that I recapture the whole tape using the same clip names and then use "Reconnect Media" to associate my master clips to the new media files (I tested this idea with a duplicate master clip but got a warning of 'attribute mismatch' when I went to reconnect the duplicate to the newly capture media file apparently because as the media in/out timecodes weren't quite the same).

    - The 'Advanced' tab is actually in the 'Quicktime Settings' section not 'Compressor'. Do I take it that the 16:9 box in the 'Frame Size' area is for converting 4:3 on the tape to 16:9 in FCP rather than capturing 16:9 as shot on the tape?

  • 1080i60 file to PAL dvd

i have a motion based animation. 1920 x 1080 that i need to convert for use in a pal dvd. seems simple, but all i need to do is run it through the 1080i60 PAL preset in compressor (which only changes the fps to 25) and then compress that as a mpeg?
    am i missing anything?

Hope you asked us to disregard because you figured it out or got help, not because you're giving up!
There are some excellent white papers (pdfs) on this site about FCP workflows.
One thing to keep in mind is that changing the easy setup will only change the default settings for new elements you create. Existing sequences will keep their original settings, which if you think about it is the way you would want it.
Also, you don't have to make a separate version of the project, you can duplicate the sequenc ein the original project - I find file management easier this way.

  • Dv pal anamorphic?

we have recorded some material that was obviously shot at dv pal anamorphic settings.
when i open the quicktime clips in qt-player, it shows as
    DV 720 x 576 (1024x576)
in final cut, we have tried finding the correct settings for timeline, but no matter what we try, fcp seems to insist on adding black bars on top and below.
when encoding, we end up with 4:3 video, neatly blackboxed.
as nicely as this is, i would like to know how to get fcp to treat the video at it's native format and how to get compressor to encode it as such.
would prefer the dvd-player to decide how to display the video from there on...
any suggestions on where to look?
there used to be an "anamorphic" setting in fcp once upon a time, but that seems to have disappeared - or has it been replaced? if so, with what?
    thanks

    Hi Rene,
In oder to have handle FCP this in the right way you need to capture it as DV PAL anamorphic in the first place. An Easy Setup should exsist, but you can simply use DV PAL preset and set the anamorphic checkbox in the capture preset (preferences) as well as the timeline presets.
I you by accident did not capture the material as Anamorphic, you easily tell FCP that it really is anamorphic, by checkmarking the anamorphc column in the Browser.
If you forgot to set the sequence/timeline settings to anamorphic BEFORE dropping footage in it, then first set the settings of that sequence by checkmarking the anamorphic chekmark in the timeline settings (Command 0).
Then choose all clips in the sequence and Remove Attributes (Command-Option-V). In that pop-up menu choose Distort. This will remove the aspect settings that FCP created automattically when you dropped anamorphic material in a 4:3 timeline or vice versa.
    Hope this helps.

  • Project from fcp NTSC to PAL dvd

Can someone give me the steps needed to take a NTSC fcp6 project and burn it to a PAL DVD? I have DVDSP 4 and iDVD 7. Thank you Maria

You will need to convert the NTSC footage to PAL footage (and ultimately a PAL m2v)
There are a few ways to go with this. One way I use that is often fairly good is export the NTSC timeline in a Uncompressed Codec (not DV or HDV) then run that through Compressor for the conversion using one of the PAL presets (i.e, Format Conversions PAL DV, PAL HDV etc.) but by tweaking the default by making a copy of the Apple preset and adjusting Frame controls to "Better" across the board. The encode that to a PAL m2v.
There are other techniques using Compressor, and also third party plugins such as Nastress (which is very good). Depedending on budget you can also take it to a place that does hardware conversion

  • NTSC to PAL conversion help

I am editing an NTSC program in FCPx (Project settings are 720p HD, 920x720, 29.97fps;  Render format Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) )
In Compressor I am trying to ocnvert the program to PAL using the *H.264 codec (.mov).  There is no "PAL" setting option for this format, but I have set the frame rate to 25fps, however my program duration is being affected, with the 30min episode coming out at around 34mins, obviously slowing down during the frame rate conversion. What can I do to prevent this?
(*Ideally I want to create a MXF format render, but Compressor seems unable to do this?)
Help much appreciated ASAP as I have a deadline of today!
    thanks,
    Geoff

Even if you can't make MXF, you should probably still adhere to the rest of the specs, namely MPEG-2 encoding at 8MBps.
For the framerate conversion, make sure Frame Controls are On, and set length to "100% of original", and use the highest-quality frame conversion. It is very slow, but unless there are very fast-moving objects, it will produce excellent quality. Be sure target framerate is set to 25fps (it should be if you use any PAL preset.)
The company to which Russ H linked seem to make an MXF export plugin for for FCP and Compressor, though perhaps not directly for FCP-X, but I have no experience with them.

  • Non intrelace setup for PAL

hello, I'm new to whole mac environment, switched to Final Cut Studio a week ago. And I got big problem. For 99% of my footage I work in progressive mode. I use AJA Kona3 to capture from digital Beta, I got a bit of problem with fields. I capture using PAL preset - its 625i25 ( 720x576 ) - Aspect CCIR 601. It grabs frames as full ( not interlaced ). But still on the timeline they are set as interlaced with Upper fields. and I get jiggy edges, so I have to change properties in every shot from Upper to None. Then it looks ok. I know I'm doing something wrong - just cant put my finger on it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Pawel

    wow, lightning fast response,
The problem is that I cant use anything else then 625i25 - thats how AJA describes it.
This is how I got A/V settings set up
    Sequence preset :
Frame size : 720x576 CCIR 601 / DV PAL (5:4) - I use non square pixels for every comp
Pixel Aspect Ratio: PAL - CCIR 601(720x576)
    Field Dominance: NONE
    Editing Timebase: 25
    QT video Settings
    Compressor: Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2
    Capture Preset
    Frame size : 720x576 CCIR 601 / DV PAL (5:4)
    QT video settings
    digitizer: Aja 8-bit Digitizer
input: 625i25 (720x576) - i cant make new presets ( and in that resolution i got only 625i25
in Kona3 Control Panel i got 625i25 set as Primary ( Native ) format. and again I don't have 625p25 to pick.

  • NTSC equivalent PAL comp settings

    Hi,
I've created a number of NTSC short films in AE CS4. Burned onto DVD using Encore, they play fine. Now, I want to create PAL versions. I think I've worked out the equivalent comp settings to use but I'm not sure. Please can you look over the settings below and let me know if you can foresee any problems in the PAL settings and, if so, offer alternatives. Thanks.
For NTSC I use these comp settings (this is NOT for rendering; please see below for that.)
Preset - NTSC D1 Widescreen Square Pixel
    Width - 872
    Height - 486
Pixel aspect ratio - Square pixels
    Frame rate - 29.97
If I want to create PAL versions of these films, what settings should I use for the individual comps, please?
    Is it these?
Preset - PAL D1/DV Widescreen Square Pixel
    1050
    576
    Pixel aspect - Square Pixel
    Frame rate - 25
The PAL width seems very big, but then that's the default when you choose that PAL preset, so I'm guessing it's right.
    RENDERING
I add all the above NTSC comps to one final comp, which is rendered to m2v using these settings
    Preset - NTSC DV Widescreen
    Width - 720
    Height - 480
Pixel aspect ratio - D1/DV NTSC Widescreen (1.21)
    Frame rate - 29.97
If I want to render the PAL comps, what are the equivalent settings, please?
    Will they be:
    PAL D1/DV Widescreen
    720
    576
    D1/DV PAL Widescreen (1.46)
    25 frame rate
    Thanks for any help,
    Steve

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks for helping out.
No, there are no frame rate issues. Everything was created in AE.
I've heard PAL players will play NTSC, but do all PAL players play NTSC and, if not, what percentage don't? I'd be interested in any stats that anyone has.
The problem is that this DVD is for a small commercial project that will sell predominantly in the US and UK, but potentially anywhere in the world through my website, so it has to play any and all PAL players. Any problems, and I'll get disgruntled emails, refund requests and a bad reputation.
So I could take all the NTSC comps using the settings above, nest them in a PAL comp, again using the settings above that I've listed under RENDER, and everything should be fine? Is it really that simple?
    Thanks,
    Steve
