DVD decoder question

The majority of DVD decoders are available online for download. Problem is the computer I want to install the decoder onto does NOT have the internet. Could I purchase a physical CD with a DVD decoder on it or maybe download the DVD decoder on a computer with the internet then burn it to a CD?
Suggestions.
Thanks
Points up for grabs

Certainly .. I take it that you are backing up a DVD you already own? If you need to "decode" a DVD, use Mac The Ripper.
http://www.mactheripper.org/
You can then make a burnable folder (right click on desktop or ctrl+click and choose new burn folder). Place the downloaded .dmg file in this folder. Double-click on the folder and select Burn. Insert a blank CD-Rom and you're off!

Note: Don't delete the original .dmg file until after the burn. You will be placing an alias to the original file in the burn folder.

  • DVD Decoder Card Not Working

I have a lombard 333 that I have a dvd decoder card installed in. It also has a dvd drive. When I put a dvd in, it shows up on the desktop and seems to work fine, but when the dvd player opens it says the dvd player is not compatible with this machine. The decoder card shows up in the toolbar at the top of the screen. I tried other dvd drives with no luck. I also put the card and dvd drive in another lombard 333 which did the same thing. I have used the lombard and card before to play dvd's with no problem, now it does not work. What is wrong? Could my card have gone bad? Is there a way I can fix it? Thanks

    Mac,
Unfortunately, no version of OSX supports DVD Player on the Wallstreet or Lombard. I am assuming you are booting into OSX since you have listed 10.4.8 as your OS. The only workaround is to boot into 9.x to play DVDs.

  • I installed a hp dvd rw in my computer, put it wouldnt play because i dont have a dvd decoder help

Hi, I installed an hp dvd lightscrid 840rw on my computer. It didnt have one before it seems to be working ok as i installed a burning program with it,But when i try to play a dvd movie with windows media player it keeps telling me that i dont have a dvd decoder installed on my computer,so how do i get that,as i said the burn program was nero11 but that didnt help

    Hi,
Try installing the standard codec pack on the link below as this contains the mpeg-2 decoder required for dvd playback - during the installation, just accept the default suggestions.

After the installation has completed, restart the PC.

  • DVD @ access questions?

I am putting together a short promo DVD for a client and I have a catalogue of their products as an image on the DVD that you can access via the main menu. What I want to do is have it so the products are 'clickable' and will take the user [when online] to the clients web site. I did a search but I cant find out how to link this page to the DVD access settings in the inspector. Any help? Also, can you link a button to open up and email application so the user can email direct from watching this DVD? Questions questions questions....thanks in advance. Oh, Im on DVDSP2.

DVD@ccess is actually quite limited and not entirely compatible with the range of DVD playback software/hardware available on a PC... you might be better off using eDVD from Sonic (which is PC software, making use of the Interactual Player, rather than @ccess).
However, @ccess links are embedded in to a menu - so any button you have got needs to go to a menu that simply has the @ccess URL embedded and the menu needs to time out to return to where the button was. For launching a web site simply use the standard URL for the site, include the http:// info in that.
Now, sending an email is not going to work all of the time, but you can try it out and see if it has the functionality you want. The URL to place into the menu for DVD@ccess is the HTML 'mailto' code. simply write:
mailto:[email protected], replacing name, domain and .com with the revelant info. If you have got the @ccess links enabled on your Mac, try simulating the menu with this in it... you should see Mail launch (it takes a moment for it to appear, but should work). Whether or not this will work on a PC with Outlook I don't know...

  • Sat Pro 6000 - DVD decoder needed

I have owned my faithful Sat Pro 6000 for nearly 6 years. I have had to use the recovery discs and reformat back to factory settings. Now I am unable to play DVD??s, I am asked for the decoder.
Why is this requesting being made now? Can this be downloaded?

In my knowledge the DVD software cannot be downloaded.
On the Toshiba recovery CD you will find an image which contains all preinstalled tools on the notebook!
Many Toshiba notebooks were delivered with the WinDVD software and this program can be used for DVD movie watching.
If you ask ONLY for the DVD decoder plug-in for Windows media player so you will have to download it from the Microsoft site.
    Search simply in the net!

    Hi kole
Ivan25 is absolutely right. But nevertheless if you want to use the Windows Player, you need compatible codecs. You can find the latest Windows Media Player 9 Codecs Pack on many sites in the World Wide Web. I found this site. Please take the look.

  • "DVD DECODER NOT PRESENT" in Lombard 400mhz G3?

I recently bought a Lombard 400mhz G3 Powerbook online which plays DVD'S fine in OS9. However my freind as since bought the same model - 400mhz 1mb cache DVD Rom etc but his won't play DVD'S in OS9 at all. The system profiler says "DVD DECODER NOT PRESENT", how can this be and what is the likley problem?
    Thanks.

    Mark,
Your mentioning the PRAM reset was interesting...I vaguely recall this issue a long time ago with the same results.
Are you sure the PRAM reset was successful? One way to tell is to turn AppleTalk 'off', then reset PRAM (allow 2-3 chimes); the default setting is 'on' after a reset. there are other items stored in PRAM also:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
You might also boot to a compatible MacOS System CD and check the System Profiler that is in the booting System Folder just to make sure some oddball software issue on the HD is not causing a problem.
I hope I have not lead you astray. If the decoder was on the logic board and died, I hope it will not interfere with the operation of the PC card. I just don't have an answer to this because I have never run across it. I can only hope this is successful...

  • Compatible DVD decoder not installed

Hello. I am so helpless...and need advice, please someone....
I was working on a project in Premiere Pro and my computer(Windows XP 1GB) crashed. I heard compatibility problems with CS3 and Vista, so I took my computer to a repair place. It came back with a new hard drive, but the computer says "Compatible DVD decoder is not installed in the computer." All it has is Window Media player..... I have CS (the initial CS version), and I need Windows XP so that I can use Premiere CS version. I do not have any newer version of Premiere than CS. I am sorry, but I am totally lost and have no idea what to do.....

The message is probably telling you that your trying to play a DVD-Video disc without having an
MPEG-2 codec installed. Except for some versions of Vista, Windows doesn't come with an MPEG-2 codec. Most of the time it gets automatically installed with a DVD player software that often is bundled with a DVD drive. Maybe you have an installation disc of such a player lying around somewhere.
Otherwise you will need to buy the codec:
    DVD Decoder (MPEG-2 Decoder) Plug-ins
You can check whether or not a Media Player compatible MPEG-2 codec is installed with this utility:

There is a free player here.

Probably better to buy a decoder that has support.

  • DVD-RW question

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but it's a simple question: Can I erase-reformat-rerecord DVD-RWs with my Mac Pro? My former Mac couldn't handle DVD recording so it's new to me. Perhaps a reference to an Apple help page. Thanx,
    Ken

    Hi,
I don't know about the Finder, but I suppose it's possible with Disk Utility. If you have Toast there are 2 options to delete RW media (+ or - doesn't matter): a fast mode will delete it, but you must use Toast to burn something the next time and a slower mode will take longer, but the media will be writable with any software.

  • DVD Formatting questions

    Hey there!
So here is the deal:  I've edited a movie in 1080p in Final Cut Pro X.  I've exported a Apple ProRes HQ version of my film with Compressor 4, and burned it.  The problem is, as I'm sure you already know, that the quality *****.  The gorgeous footage we took looks washed out and grainy.
I know full well that DVDs do not support HD.  But when you go buy a DVD in the store, the quality is fantastic.  What am I doing wrong?  I have the CS5 suite with Adobe Encore if I need to use it.  I know there is a way to make my footage look awesome on a DVD, I just don't have any idea how!
I know this isn't a Compressor question specifically, but I really have no clue where else to ask the question.  I know the big studios have huge budgets to make their DVDs look amazing, but as far as I'm aware, they are using Adobe Encore or DVD Studio Pro to design the DVDs, and programs similar (if not exactly) to Compressor.  What settings should I be using to make my footage look good?
Any help would be absolutely amazing.  Thanks!
    -David

Take a look at the workflow in this article.  This article shows you how to convert your HD footage to DVD.

  • External DVD Burner Questions

I am looking into purchasing an external firewire/USB 2.0 DVD burner with Lightscribe for my PowerMac G5. I have 2 questions: 1) Do Apple stores (at the mall) sell DVD burners? I cannot remember if I seen one there or not. 2) What burner would you recommend? I need one with Lightscribe and would like to have firewire. The USB 2.0 is not necessary. I want an external drive if possible as well. Thank you for your help and advice!

Be aware that lightscribe technology is still quite in its infancy and others have had trouble with it. In addition, any attempt to label disks often yields in unstable shorter-lived disks than leaving the existing label side empty. I use jewelcase inserts to keep track of my disks.
If you must get lightscribe, some Apple Stores do sell LaCie Lightscribe drives occasionally. I've not always seen it there, and it really depends on the stock. You can look up places like http://www.macconnection.com/ http://www.maczone.com/ http://www.cdw.com/ and http://www.macsales.com/ for possible compatible drives. In addition, http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ has a good drive database to search from compatible drives.

  • DVD Decoder Card and OS X

I have a CardBus MPEG 2 Decoder card from MCE but am discovering to my profound disappointment that Apple did not provide support to the card under OS X.
Why did Apple chose not to continue support for this peripheral?
Is there some way that I can get it to work under OS X? (The card works great in OS 9)
    Thanks,

    Daffy,
I have never read or heard of any such software to enable Apple DVD Player on the Lombard or Wallstreet running OSX.

  • SuperDrive and DVD-RW Question

Hello, I have a 1GHz G4 iMac with 1GB of RAM. It has the stock superdrive installed, below are the specs from Pioneer:
    Writes 4X, 2X and 1X speeds for DVD-R (General 650nm discs only) &
    2X or 1X for DVD-RW
Writes to CD-R/RW standard and high-speed media
Rewrites DVD-RW discs at 1x speeds more than 1,000 times
Read speeds up to 6X for DVD (single layer), 24X for CD-R/RW and
    16X for CD-Audio Extraction
I have been trying to use DVD-RWs I purchased from Target, but none of them seem to be working. I insert the disc and they get kicked back out after about 30 secs. First I tried Immation DVD-RW. I am not sure what the speeds of these are. I took them back and got TDK DVD-RW. They are 4X and compatible with 2X. Does this mean my superdrive will not read these as they are not 1X?
I have been able to write to DVD-RW using sony DVD-RWs that are 1x-2x speeds, I got these a couple of years ago, and wanted to get new ones.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am confused with all of the lingo when it comes to writing and rewriting with these things!
    * - On a side note, does anyone know of a good inexpensive Dual Layer DVD writer I could put in?
    Thanks

Hi,You've surpassed my experience as I've never owned a tower based Mac since my brother had a Performa 6400..
For non Apple hardware - you'll have to check out the OEM (i.e. Pioneer) website for firmware upgrades.
...but if it ain't broke don't fix it!
The only firmware update I've done to an optical drive is on my TiBook where Apple had removed DVD-RW support and reduced DVD-R burn speed from the drive's 2x capability down to 1x. To me, that was worth the update!
OS X Tiger (10.4) is, however, very supportive of third party drives (although I suspect that support does not go as far as distributing firmware updates!) - so updating to that will help if you are having difficulties taking advantage of your Superdrive. The other option is to install a third party drive like Patchburn. Having said all that the Apple has shipped many types of Pioneer optical drive in its desktop Macs so Software Update may well provide updates unaware that it's a replacement drive (but that's only a guess).
