DVI to S-Video & Composite plug cable needed for output to audio/TV system

I'm in need of a DVI to S-Video and Composite plug cable to replace the Monster iTV Link cable I used with my 12" Aluminum PowerBook. (http://www.monstercable.com/apple/Computer.asp) I use it to output to my audio/TV system.
Whereas the PowerBook used a mini-DVI port and had the audio output jack on the same side of the computer, the MacBook Pro uses a full size DVI port and has the audio jack on the opposite side!
I've been unable to find a cable so that I can connect up to a TV. Does anyone know where I can find one? Or perhaps a DVI to mini-DVI adapter? Or perhaps a VGA to S-Video/Composite cable and I can use the DVI to VGA adapter that came with the computer?
This is very frustrating!

Apple's video adapters have a ROM chip inside them with EDID data contained within the ROM. That is one thing that will definitely be different between the two. The NTSC and PAL version (M9267G/A) gives priority to NTSC. This could cause problems in a PAL country. If you hooked a PAL TV up using this adapter, you might get a rolling (non-synced) screen and you'd have no good way to recover since the image on the screen would be unusable.
I don't think one adapter would have any advantage over the other in terms of PAL picture quality. It would just be a question of compatibility as outlined above. That's my best guess.

  • GeForce4 MX using DVI to S-VIDEO / Composite Adapter

    Hi peoples,
    I'm running a PowerMac G4 Dual-867MHz MDD, with nVIDIA GeForce4 MX Video card.
    I want to connect this PowerMac to the TV, so I bought the DVI to S-VIDEO/Composite, to find out that it doesn't work with this video card.
    My question is;
    is there something I can do to get this adapter working with my current set up, or do i need another video card or something?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

    A new video card would work. e.g.
    ATI Radeon Pro PC&Mac Edition 256 MB. Has two DVI
    ports. The DVI to S_Video adapter will work on one
    port, the other port can handle a screen up to 30".
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition 256 MB. Better 3D
    performance. One DVI port (single-link, no 30"
    support), VGA port, and S-Video port. S-Video to
    composite adapter included.
    There are also used Mac, and modified PC cards that
    would work.
    Thanks for your reply. 3D performance isn't really required, as it's being used a server machine that will be hooked up to the TV, so it's hard to justify a Radeon 9800 Pro. Hopefull I can find something cheap & nasty, else this baby is going on eBay.
    Cheers.

  • Mini dvi to s-video/composite adapter doesn't seem to work?

    basically i'm trying to hook my rather new 2.53 ghz mac mini to my tv, which basically has rca inputs. so, having seen several laptops hooked to this tv as simply as using an s-video to composite adapter, i figured it would be as simple as getting the mini dvi to composite adapter and i'd be good. well, for some reason this doesn't seem to do anything. the other weird thing is that when i hook the cable from the composite adapter to the tv, i get a buzz out of the speakers as the connection is being made. why is a video signal having anything to do with the audio? plugging my playstation 2 into the same input works fine. why the difference?

    That's the setup I've used. Works great for video and photos, but webpage text can be difficult to read.
    I used the yellow composite input rather than the s-video. My old tv is inside an “entertainment center” type tv stand and is so friggin heavy, it’s a pain in the axx to move, so I just used the composite plug on the front of my tv. Since the Mac mini is sitting in front of the tv it works great:-)

  • Mini Dvi to S-video/Composite/RCA

    I have a 2007 black macbook and recently bought a Mini-DVI to video adapter (brand-dynex) and hooked it up to my older television (TV has no hdmi hookup or dvi, just S-Video and RCA) and I could faintly make out my computer screen but it was all "scratchy" and was moving across the screen. I changed the resolution and it became black and gray lines moving up and down the screen. I was wondering how can I hook my computer up to this older TV to watch movies online (I wont be upset with low quality). Do I need to purchase the Apple brand adapter or is there some "tweeking" I can do to make the Dynex one work? thanks

    Honestly, I was afraid of this... Oh well, I bought it off ebay and got my money refunded so no harm done. Thanks for the help and if anyone can figure some application or anything and get their adaptor to work, please contact me thanks....

  • LIVE Streaming Video-Equipment and Cables Needed?????

    I am planning on starting a 24/7 live online tv station through ustream or livestream. I will be using my apple Macbook Pro to do this. However, I would like to be able to play DVD's, and other recordings from a DVD player through a video switch board/video mixer into my computer and into ustream. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what equipment I am going to need to do this. I already have everything to produce my shows. I just need to know what kind of video switch board/video mixer I will need and what connection cables I will need to run the video mixer to my Macbook Pro. If there is a better way to do this, I am open to suggestions. I am on a tight budget, but am willing to spend some money. Please keep in mind that I would like this station to be a 24/7 programming station on ustream or livestream and that I need to be able to set video up to run on an automated schedule. Thank You very much for any and all suggestions.

    What you need is grab video/sound form camera/mic, publish it
    on FMS and let the other clients play it. In a few steps:
    // get camera and mic
    var cam:Camera = Camera.getCamera(); // get default camera
    var mic:Microphone = Microphone.getMicrophone(); // get
    default mic
    // if you have VideoDisplay, for monitoring
    videoDisplay.attachCamera(cam);
    // create new RTMP connection to FMS/your app
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    // new stream should be create *after* nc has connected, not
    before
    // so this is executed after the below nc.connect() succeeds
    nc.attachEventListener(Event.CONNECT, function(){
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream();
    ns.attachCamera(cam);
    ns.attachMicrophone(mic);
    ns.publish("streamname", "live"); // or "record" if you want
    to live+rec
    // connect to default instance of app 'appname' on your FMS
    nc.connect("rtmp://fms.ip.address/appname");
    If you're using Flex2 and FMS2 (the latest FMS is 3), you
    might need to
    cuange the connection encoding to AMF0 (which is what FMS2
    uses) in order for this to work.
    Hope this helps; I've written it from my head so it probably
    has mistakes, but it's the general workflow; the docs in the
    language reference for specific functions mentioned here will also
    help.

  • Does the composite AV cable work for iPad2?

    I could not get a "yeah" from anywhere of the HK reseller/dealer nor HK online store for the Composite AV cable supporting iPad2...whilst it is stated compatible at US & UK Apple online stores...so, is there any driver/version compatibility issue for those sold in HK? Anyone helps with the intell before I buy one. Thanks...

    Thanks guys...it really gets to the situation that I may need to have 3 different cables for different purposes, composite for my analog in-car LCD player, hdmi for my home HDTV, and one for VGA projector at work. All these unfortunately come by different interfaces from different production time. I hope I can get some all-in-one converter or some sort that I don't have to spend big bucks buying 3 Apple cables but probably the newest hdmi. Researching is still in progress...

  • Plug-ins Needed for SMP Target Users

    No Strobe Media Playback plug-ins are available to the SMP target audience.
    The Introducing Strobe Media Playback presentation says:
    Our target audience for Strobe Media Playback and Flash Media Playback are designers, content owners, enterprises, and developers who want to get started easily with an out-of-the-box, feature rich media player. Strobe Media Playback allows you to spend more time on creating content than focusing on how to build, or what media player to use.
    So the SMP target audience is not Flash developers.
    That same presentation says the target audience includes "bloggers, small business" ...
    The majority of bloggers and people who build small business websites are not progammers of any sort, let alone Flash developers.
    Currently the only way to obtain or test any SMP plugins is to build them from the source.
    And the plug-in examples included in the SMP download package demo pages do not include the actual plug-in file making it impossible to actually complete the working demo.
    So basically no plugins are currently available to the SMP target audience.
    Please make working plug-ins available for download.
    Along with some examples and/or documentation of how to use them.
    The analytics and advertising plug-ins would be a good start.
    Thanks.

    "The big gaping hole is demonstrating working plug-ins and documentation for those plug-ins."
    For SMP, might including analytics plug-ins be a good start?
    If you are looking for "demonstrating working plug-ins" the following two analytics plug-ins are accessible:
       * GTrack Plug-in
    http://www.realeyes.com/blog/2010/09/27/announcing-google-analytics-pl ug-in-for-osmf-the-gtrack-plug-in-2/
       * TubeMogul InPlay Analytics
    http://tubemogul.com/public/showPage/osmf_plugin
    There also are plug-in samples in the OSMF project that perhaps could be suited to your effort.
    fwiw, Although OSMF is **OPEN**, many current plug-in partners are not.
    I have pursued an effort similar to what you currently are doing.
    It is awesome that the partners are supporting OSMF, however as I contacted them responses such as "That document is for customers only" was very common.
    btw, My reply is forking this thread.
    If you respond to this response (regarding plug-ins in general), please open a new thread cross referencing this one.
    I will see your reply either way.
    btw #2, I would be interested in the link to the "demo website" you mentioned (if it is public).

    (my god it is hard to simply quote another post in this "forum")
    Thanks for the input Greg.
    I had already saved the TubeMogul example as it has some good documentation.
    The GTrack analytics plugin looks great.
    And very good documentation.
    But again, the file is not available.
    Users must build it from the source.
    This eliminates the majority of the potential users.
    Regarding the demo website:
    The demo website is not yet online.
    I have added demos for the usual stuff - FLV, F4V, MP4, MOV.
    And the latest streaming stuff - F4M, DVR, etc.
    And M3U playlists.
    Added the 3 Flash Access DRM examples found here in this forum.
    Like to add SMIL demos when the plugin becomes available.
    I have made demos for whatever is available from Adobe and Akamai (that I can find).
    Which at this point includes no plug-ins whatsoever.
    Will let you know when it is online.
    Regards,
    Ken McD

  • Why is there no plug in capability for"built in audio out"?

    This feature is long overdue and needs to be added.
    Most films have too much dynamic range for home viewing and
    A simple stereo plugin could solve this nicely.
    Also multi band eqs for our environments might help many of us.
    Please add this important feature to Built in audio in OSX 8.?

    I still want to start the buzz here in hopes others follow.
    Effects for "Built In" audio would be a nice add on to the OS.

  • Cable needed to output video to TV

    I'm a complete neophyte, when it comes to using my computer to watch video in my TV. I have a MacBook, model identifier 5,2. What cables would I need to transfer video from the Mac to a TV with HDMI connectors. Can it be done?

    You will need an adaptor from your video port to HDME if your TV has HDMI ports. Your model has a mini-DVI port so you need an adaptor to go from mini-DVI to HDMI. Check the Apple Online store. Griffen has a multi-use adaptor that may work. If not check adaptors from Kanex(.com).

  • DVI to s-video/ composite Video Adaptors- diff b/w 2 Apple products?

    I am trying to get information regarding the difference between 2
    Apple display accessories.
    - Apple PAL DVI to Video Adaptor -Apple part number MA026ZM/A
    - Apple DVI to Video Adaptor -Apple part number M9267G/A
    The second is not just an NTSC version of the first, in that it
    supports both PAL and NTSC - and apparently the Pin outs are
    different for both. I am trying to work out which will give a better
    result for PAL video output (interlace timings etc). Kbase articles
    just say that M9267G/A supports both NTSC and PAL and that MA026ZM/A
    supports PAL. It seems strange that the PAL item exists if the other
    adaptor supports PAL also ? Apple Australia say they don't know.

  • Trouble with DVI to S-Video/Composite on 480i TV

    Please help. Just connected my 480i TV with my 2008 mac mini. First connection worked perfectly. I changed the screen resolution and now all I have is a flickering black & white tv. I've tried almost every possible screen resolution with no luck.
    Help?

    I can explain the behavior with AirDisplay. OS X has the ability to store different display settings according to how many screens are in use. AirDisplay counts as two screens being in use, same as like attaching an external display to a laptop. So OS X is using different settings for that configuration. As soon as the second display goes away, OS X reverts to settings last in use for the single display configuration.
    Maybe restarting in Safe mode and changing the resolution to 480i will be all you need to do. That is also covered in the link the was previously sent.

  • Mini DVI to S-video/Composite hooked to a projector

    Hi all,
    I have recently opted to sell my PB 17 as I was tired of having a brick on my back all the time.
    I hoped apple would do a new 12' but alas it didn't happen.
    In any way, I mostly use my book for clients presentations.
    I am having an awful problem.
    I bought a minidvi to svideo, and connected it to different projectors and chose the right res for the task!
    everything on the screen (projector) is blurred as ****.
    I cannot manage to get a crisp picture from the projector and this is very annoying.
    I am buffed up with the max ram on a blackbook.
    this is very annoying as this is the main task i require my book to do.
    Is there any way to get this thing working using svideo
    thanX in advance
    JM

    Plug it in using miniDVI (or whatever it is on the Macbook) to VGA adapter
    much better quality then
    I do it at home with my PB 17" and projector
    (getting MacBook too and will buy miniDV to VGA adapter for that too)

    Hi,
    the iMac 9.1 (otherwise known as the "Early 2009" model) has a Mini DisplayPort output port http://support.apple.com/kb/SP507
