DW CS3 loses CDATA directive

DW 9.0 Build 3481 on Windows XP.
I'm converting the results of a mySQL query into XML, so that
I can use Spry. I paraphrased an example on the Spry web site to do
this conversion and it works great.
However, I noticed that if I made changes to the page from
the Code or Split tab, all would be well, but if I made any change
at all on the Design tab, when I saved it, DW removed the CDATA in
the line below. This, of course, breaks the XML that is generated.
Original line in the page:
<<?php echo $column; ?>><![CDATA[<?php echo
$row_rsAll[$column]; ?>]]></<?php echo $column;
?>>
DW changes it to this:
<<?php echo $column; ?>><?php echo
$row_rsAll[$column]; ?></<?php echo $column; ?>>
I've worked around this by rewriting the line so that it's
all inside a <?php ?> tag, but I thought someone might like
to know this is going on.

• Dreavweaver CS3 Loses All Logins and Passwords Regularly

Dreamweaver CS3 regularly loses all saved logins and passwords.
All I have to do is closeout Dreamweaver, shut down Windows, reboot, then open Dreamweaver and all my saved passwords and logins are gone. This doesn't happen every time, but has happend 3 times over the past two months.
Any ideas on how to avoid this? any ideas how to get back all of my saved passwords and logins, so I don't have to re-enter them all the time?
I'm running CS3
Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad CPU
Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
2.39 GHz, 3.00 GB of RAM

Although it's for DW8, does any of this help?

• CS3 loses css formatting in design view for non-templated pages

We recently upgraded to CS3. All of the pages on our site are
templated except the home page. The home page, when viewed in
design view in Dreamweaver, looks as if the css styles are missing.
Sometimes refreshing the view causes some of them to appear, but
not all. This didn't happen in the old version. And it's not
happening (so far) on our templated pages. Any ideas?

DW6x was not the sharpest knife in the drawer and would
tolerate lots of
things that DWCS3 will not.
I suggest you do the following -
* Change your doctype from this one (inserted by DMX6x, and
broken) -
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01
Transitional//EN">
to this one (valid and complete - the way DMX6x *should* have
done it) -
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01
Transitional//EN"
http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
Now your page will render in Standards mode, and not quirks
mode (a very bad
thing).
* Change this (in your stylesheet) -
vertical-align: top;
end FedFAQ
/* ********************** COLLAPSE/EXPAND MENUS
to this -
vertical-align: top;
/* end FedFAQ */
/* ********************** COLLAPSE/EXPAND MENUS
I am sure that by doing this you will see a remarkable change
in your
page....

• DW CS3 Loses Server Behavior

I have set up the PHP tutorial from
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setting_up_php.html.
Site definitions are setup as per instruction, however, when
opening the send.php or view.php pages, the server behavior is lost
in the applications tab. If I try to set them up on that tab again,
it takes me to a new site def. session.
If I create a new PHP page, the behaviors are there, I can
create a connCafeTownsend DB connection, but when I add a RS, the
Site def. is gone again.

• Adobe Photoshop CS3 Will Not Install PLEASE HELP TRIED EVERYTHING

I downloaded from Adobe the Photoshop CS3 Extended Trial directly from Adobe. (BTW I am on Vista 32)
The first time I tried installing, ADBEPHSPCS3_WWE.exe successfully unpacked, I successfully transitioned to the Adobe Photoshop CS3 installation, and it appeared to install. After 30 minutes or so, the installer finished and simply said that shared components had installed but the Photoshop CS3 Component install failed.
I always got in the log Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC,version="8.0.50727.163",type="win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18 e3b",processorArchitecture="x86"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information
This, I know, is everyones typical problem.
I turned off firewall and antivirus.
I uninstalled ALL Adobe and Macromedia programs, including Flash and Acrobat.
I used Windows Install Cleanup Utility to remove them.
I downloaded the CS3 Clear from Adobe and cleared at levels 1, 2, and 3.
I created the Administrator account on my computer and tried everything on the Administrator account.
I tried installing Photoshop CS3 with compatibility mode for XP SP2.
I tried:
1. Open an Administrator command prompt by right clicking on Start -> All
Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt and selecting "Run as
Administrator" and clicking "Allow" for the elevation prompt
2. In the command prompt, type the command below
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
3. Reboot the machine
I tried:
Get command prompt up. It has to be run with admin rights so save yourself some time and run it this way.........Start/programs/accessories/.....right click command prompt and click run as administrator.
Then paste these commands in 1 after the other
regsvr32 vbscript.dll (THEN PRESS ENTER)
and
regsvr32 jscript.dll (AGAIN PRESS ENTER)
I even tried installing in Safe Mode but the CS3 setup would not initialize.
I do not know what else to do. I have CS2 which I will use, but I was really hoping to move to CS3 which is supposed to be better and faster. Does anyone know anything else to do? I am not a computer noob but I am not about to reinstall Vista. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I was in the same predicament and after spend many hours over several days trying a multitude of things I finally found an easy fix (below):
========================================
Assuming you have Internet Explorer 7 go to:
Tools/Internet option/Advanced
Click the Reset dialog box. This will bring IE7 back to its default settings. You should reboot your computer. After logging back into Windows load IE and let it take you though its initial setup. When you are done close IE and install Photoshop.. This worked for me,,, hopefully it will work for you!

• Problems opening & resaving NEF files with CS3/CS2

I seem to be having problems sending my NEF files to Photoshop from Aperture. This started happening just today & I'm not sure what to do.
What happens is that when I open a NEF file in external editor, instead of just opening up as a psd file in CS3 or CS2 directly like it used to do, it now opens Adobe Raw instead which means that I am unable to resave back into my Aperture Library. Is there anyone who has experienced this as well? Any suggetions as to the cause and a solution? I tried checking preferences for both Aperture as well as Photoshop but nothing seems to work.
The only thing I can think of is having just updated Adobe Raw to the latest version, 4.3 I think. Other than that Aperture did start up about a week ago & declared my library corrupt & proceeded to rebuild my library. Other than that it was behaving normally until today. Its really irritating & counter productive to be unable to resave my edits in Aperture.
Any help or suggestions will be very welcome indeed. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the tip Eduardo, but I checked the preferences and they seem to be correct.
It seems that only images in certain projects were affected. Could be the ones that Aperture rebuilt earlier. I guess I may have to try exporting the raw files from the affected projects, then deleting and reimporting the projects again. I did try to rebuild the thumbnails but it doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for me to try before I do this?

• Saving CS3 file as CS2 file

I am trying to save a document cover that I created back as a CS2 file. The art department in my company has not upgraded to CS3 yet. How do you go about doing that. I still have the old version. Please help!
kt

All later versions open the earlier versions. But not the other way around. So if someone has CS3 they can directly open a CS2 file.

• CS3 misses .xmp files from PSE4

I have used PS Elements 4 on Windows for a couple of years. Most of my photos are in RAW (from a Rebel XT). I have it set to save RAW adjustments in .xmp sidecar files. When I look in the directory with Windows Explorer, the sidecar files do, in fact, exist.
I just bought & installed PS CS3. I intend to continue to use PSE4 organizer because I have a lot of collections, tags, etc. I have configured PSE4 to use PS CS3 as its external editor. CS3 is configured to use .xmp files.
When I open a RAW file in CS3 via the PSE4 organizer, the file opens, but the adjustments are not used--it's as if I never adjusted the image.
If I open the file from CS3 Bridge, or directly with PS CS3, it works right. If I adjust a file in CS3, then save it, and re-open it from PSE4 organizer, it works right.
How do I get it to work right when I open a previously adjusted RAW file from PSE4 organizer?

Thank you for taking the time to respond Mr. Castaneda.
Using Bridge in this context, while obviously an effective work-around, only serves as an unnecessary resource hog.
The simple issue is this: What used to take half a second in keyboard taps now requires either the use of an additional program (Bridge) or several additional steps in Finder.
I can't help but to suspect that there is some way to configure my system to behave in the desired manner.
I do use Bridge regularly, but when all I want to do is process hundreds of RAW files in the largest batches possible, I don't see the need to waste resources on it. And it does slow things down noticeably.
I like to use Bridge for sorting, renaming, editing, labeling, etc. But to use it just to open up files seems a little inefficient.
Maybe I'm picking at nits here, but I'm just baffled that this system behaves differently than the one I used a few days ago (same OS, programs, and updates).
Many thanks!
Best regards,
Michael

• CS3 trial not installing!

Hi,
I have just performed a clean install of Leopard on my iMac and am trying to install a trial of Photoshop CS3 I downloaded directly from the Adobe website.
Shared components install correctly but the actual Photoshop application fails to install every time!
I am currently performing a system update to see if this will solve my problem, I suspect it won't but will keep you posted!
Can anyone help?!
Thanks,
David

David,
Glad I could help.
>It seems I have a corrupted disk (which would account for why my machine greys out from time to time with a message asking me to restart it,
If Disk Warrior and Disk Utility cannot fix the problems, I would be concerned as to the integrity of your drive and data. Actually, I would be very concerned here. You may have a failing hard drive.
My recommendation: as your system appears to be in bad shape, try and create a fresh, clean drive -- the only way to be sure that all corruption is being wiped out, and to be reasonably sure that your hard drive works properly. Back up all data. As in immediately. Do it again (you should not have just one set of backups).
Pull out all of your original software and system discs. Wipe out your drive (the long formatting routine which will mark and segregate bad sectors); not the quick erasure of file and data addresses. If this cannot be done, or cannot be done on the first pass, look into needing to replace a failing hard drive -- a real possibility.
If you can format the drive without a hitch, then one by one, install all your apps from the ORIGINAL discs or downloads and all updates. Periodically during this process, particularly if you have a lot of stuff to install) boot off your System disk and repair permissions (yes, they can go south as you install software) and do it again immediately after installation.
Last, restore all your files from your backup and repair permissions again. If you have a failure at any stage here, consider that your drive or some other component of your computer is bad.
While it is possible that your system is "merely" very badly corrupted, I'm very concerned about a greyed-out screen.

• Is there any way to get an old copy of CS3?

I need to recompile an Actionscript 2 project (one line change only). It seems Adobe no longer provide downloads for older versions, and the latest version doesn't support AS2.
Do I have to buy a copy on ebay?
Thanks

Hi abrahapr,
You can try downloading Adobe CS3 from the direct download links available at : http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
But make sure you follow the important steps mentioned on the page before initiating the download.

• Save as pdf vs save as postscript

hi,
I see a great difference in my screen between: files saved as pdf and files saved as postscript and then converted into pdf.
My question is:
Does this difference applies when printing?
In other words in order to get the best printing quality (besides of the paper, etc), do I need to save as postscript and then convert to pdf?
Thanks in advance.

That's a good point about lossless and lossy compression.
The real question becomes are you trying to convert vector into raster, or not. If you are, you do lose some information in the process, because vectors are always approximated by raster. While raster regions can have inside and outside topology that is converted into vector polygon of different topology inside and outside, you don't have direction. Vector back to raster you lose the direction of drawing of vectors if they go from point A to point B.
If you did a pure postscript print job, you'll likely gain more information than PDF to postscript or vice versa. A software called Ghostscript I've heard has a much better rendering of postscript prepress than just PDF. Though I've never tried it myself.

• Level 3 postscript in Photoshop

A technician for our CTP system says that Photoshop CS3 does not directly support postscript level 3. He says that Photoshop does not take advantage of 1024 levels of gray and thus is more prone to banding than gradients created in InDesign or Illustrator. If Photoshop files are linked to InDesign it still uses the inherent NON level 3 embedded with it and thus is more banding prone. Is this true? I have a hard time believing that and it is pertinent to an issue we are working with.
Thanks

Hello Pedro,
I think you can because it is the L3 logical device that has to be associated to the VRF.
Have you tried and have you got any issues ?
Hope to help

• Dreamweaver to iWeb or .Mac?

I was wondering of there was a way to upload pages I have made with Dreamweaver to iWeb or if there was a way to upload my site directly to my .mac account. Would I have to upload it to my iDisk and somehow import it from there to my .mac account?

I find Dreamweaver to be the best program I have used for web dev. If you use Photoshop CS3 you can directly import your files to Dreamweaver keeping all your layers which is nice. But as the other post suggests download the trial and try it out. Adobe has some basic tutorials that are free on their site to help get you started with the demo.

• Save as Workflow vs Application

I've made a great little workflow but there is a small problem with it.
When I run the workflow, the thing runs exactly as planned:
Downloads pics from a CF card
Sorts RAW vs JPG into diff folders
Imports JPGS into iPhoto
Sorts new photos into new Album
Starts a full screen slideshow of the new Album
but when I save the workflow as an application and tell Image Capture to run that App when a CF card is inserted, it stops after the sort line.
Any suggestions?
