DW is previewing locally instead of remotely

When I use the "Preview" drop down to choose what browser to preview my file in, Dreamweaver isn't going to the server to bring the file up in the browser.  It is pulling the local file so that on my .asp pages where i am using include files, they won't appear correctly in the browser.
When i click that preview drop down, it no longer asks me if I want to update the file on the server to preview it.
How do I get this back to the way it was, and do you have any idea why this might have changed in the first place?  I don't remember changing any settings, but I may have and didn't realize what I was doing.
I am using DW from CS5 on OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
tia!!!

Ok, I found the answer.  Please note, I have never previously defined a testing server in DW, so I have no idea what or how this was changed, maybe it was a DW update, or an OS update, or a change in our network that caused DW to detect that a setting needed to be changed - I am completely clueless...
Anyways, when i go to the Manage Sites dialogue box, choose a site, click edit, and then select Servers, i turned the checkmark on for Testing as well as Remote.  And Wa-la!!!! - DW is back to previewing the way it used to.
I had to go and do this across all of my sites, and they are all working successfully!
Thank you to anyone who put some effort in on my question.  I truly appreciate your help, time and efforts.  I hope this post helps somebody else along the way!

  • Cannot preview locally, only remotely

    I'm sure there is a simple answer to this; I just don't know it:
    I want to preview pages locally before I publish.  However, none of the graphics show up when I save to my local site then Preview in Browser, and the hyperlinks don't work either.
    • I have site preferences set to "links relative to site root."
    • When I look in the Properties of a particular graphic, it shows Src as "/images/navbarnew/STIcon.png"  (/images is a folder in the root),  but nothing shows up in the browser.
    • Likewise when I try to follow a hyperlink while previewing locally, I get an error message "cannot be found."  Here is what appears in the browswer window after clicking the link:  "file:///smarttime/index.html"  (the correct location, on the web site, would be "[url.com]/smartime/index.html" Apparently, the link is being saved local to my file system, not to the site root. Why is this?  (Maybe I created this page before I saved the preferences?)
    • Here is the actual HTML:
    <td><a href="/smarttime/index.html" target="_top" onClick="MM_nbGroup('down','group1','smarttime','/images/navbarnew/STicon-down.png',1)" onMouseOver="MM_nbGroup('over','smarttime','/images/navbarnew/STIcon-over.png','/images/n avbarnew/STicon-owd.png',1)" onMouseOut="MM_nbGroup('out')"><img name="smarttime" src="/images/navbarnew/STIcon.png" border="0" alt="SmartTime" onLoad="" /></a></td>
    So clearly the links (graphics and hyperlinks) work fine remotely. Maybe something with my browser settings?
    Thanks in advance!

    If you are using links relative to the site root, you need to use the option to preview using temporary files. Go to the Preferences panel (Edit menu on Windows, Dreamweaver menu on a Mac), and select the Preview in Browser category. Select the option to preview using temporary files. This will display your images correctly and allow you to follow links.
    Alternatively, you need to set up a local testing server.

  • Encore CS6 Freezes in Preview Mode when using Remote Control buttons

    This appears to be one of many issues with ECS6 and I've seen them all from the library problem on out. I authored a DVD in ECS6 (with latest updates as of an hour ago) and all went without error. I discovered two things:
    1. Music was missing from the main menu video, but was there in the submenu video and there in preview.
    2. Remote could not navigate buttons on submenu.
    This led me to use the "remote control" buttons instead of the mouse to try and debug this and this is rather consistently crashing Encore. So not only have I not resolved the music or button navigation problem in my finished DVD but I've discovered a rather repeatable crash.
    Anyone seen this? The buttons I chose have bounding boxes which are crazy big relative to the visible area of the button and I can't make them smaller. As a result they overlap (but don't turn red). didn't know if that was part of the remote navigation issue.
    I'm using:
    1. ECS6 (with latest patches)
    2. Resource library from ECS5.1 because the forums seem to indicate that the library issue is not resolved.
    Hard to believe the resource files would make a difference but there it is.

    For the music missing part -
      Did you link the Audio of Menu as in the below screenshot .If you have not then the audio will be missing
    Also. for the crasher in navigating button, please post a screenshot to better understand your problem

  • Challenge: call local ejb from remote ejb on weblogic 9.2

    Hi ALL,
    How do I call to local ejb from remote ejb object. The jar file is deployed on weblogic server 9.2, if you want get it http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/lindembe/BEAProject.jar and the source code are http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/lindembe/BEAProject.zip. It is a sample app with two ejb that works so good on JBOSS, JOnAS, but BEA Weblogic.....
    The complete problem you watch http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=768718&messageID=4387570#4387570
    or
    http://forums.bea.com/bea/message.jspa?messageID=600043148&tstart=0

    Your code in SigemFacadeBean should just do:
    InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
    when you lookup the local EJB. (This will work on all app servers. There's no need to put an app-server specific intial context factory in your code.)
    Also, you can remove the jndi-name setting for the local ejb from your weblogic-ejb-jar.xml. jndi-name is only applied to remote ejbs.

  • Local, Testing server, Remote server uploading

    I have my web files in a local directory, say c:
    webfiles\myweb. I also have a local testing server at
    c:\Apache\htdocs\myweb, and finally a production site at
    www.myweb.com. The problem is that when I edit a file in my local
    directory it updated the testing server and not the production
    remote - which is what I expect. My problem is that I don't know
    how to update the production server as there does not seem to be
    any menu choice for this. I am sure I am doing something stupid,
    but I can't figure out whats wrong. Basically I don't quite get how
    the relationship between the 3 file locations interact with each
    other. Any help would be sincerely appreciated as its driving me
    crazy.

    Expand the Files panel. On the toolbar, there are three icons
    in a row -
    Remote | Testing | Site Map. Select the Remote icon, and you
    will now be
    connecting with the Remote site for PUT/GET. The testing
    server will now
    only be used for Previews or Live Data displays.

  • In OBIEE 11g How to Change  Import Type Local Machine to Remote Machine

    Hi All,
    I Have Installed OBIEE 11g Client tools in my Machine and server is in Other Server.when i tried to Import metadata i am getting Connection Falied error.
    When i tried to import metadata in import type option i can see only one option Local Machine that is also in Disable mode.
    how to make import type option to Remote.
    Thanks and Regards
    Kiran Kumar

    In BI EE 10g, there was no Oracle Client bundled along with BI EE. So, BI EE will use your Oracle DB Home client to connect to the database. So, when you try to connect to the database through the Repository or BI Server, it will try to find the tnsnames entry in the Oracle Client of BI EE 11g instead of your database. There are 2 options to work around this
    Copy your tnsnames.ora and Paste it to
    1. Drive:Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1}network\admin
    2 Drive:Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\network\admin
    TNS File like,
    DBName =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Your Server IP)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = DBName)

  • Install EBS on local disk from remote win 2003? Can't pass file space check

    I have a portable 250G hard disk on my poor performance win xp,I want to install EBS 12 on my portable hard disk,but I xp system's performance is poor,so I connect to a fine performance win 2003 through mstsc and I can access my 250G hard disk from remote computer win 2003;
    But when I indecate to use remote hard disk "\\tsclient\M\ebs" as my base directory,I meet some err log like below:
    RW-20012: Error: - Free disk space on system returns zero:
         probable cause - mount point does not exist.
    RW-20013: Error: - Not enough free disk space on system:
    Database ORACLE_HOME = \\tsclient\M\ebs\db\tech_st\10.2.0
    required = 3280.0
    actual = 0.0
    If I choose local disk as my base directory ,It pass the file space check;
    Can anyone meet such problem? Please help me ,thanks in advance!

    Instead of using "\\tsclient\M\ebs\db\tech_st\10.2.0" as a directory path, map this network drive as any other free drive (i.e. F:\, G:\ .. etc). You should be able to proceed with the installation then.

  • How to Preview local file

    Currently DW is set up to preview in browser using the file
    on the remote server, which is not what I want.
    I have spent the last hour searching for the preference that
    will direct the browser to preview the local file. Will anyone
    please point me to the right preference?
    Thanks

    This means you have defined a testing server for your site.
    You probably
    don't need one. Are you developing static HTML pages? Or are
    you using
    ASP/.Net, PHP, CF, or JSP pages? If the former and not the
    latter, then
    remove the Testing server defintion from the site definition
    (just set it to
    none) and that'll take care of it.

  • Confused, which MySQL database to connect to: local (WAMP), or remote?

    Hello, new to dynamic sites, have successfully installed WAMP and set up my local/testing/remote sites in DW CS4.  Most tutorials I've found recommend making the "MySQL Connection" in Dreamweaver to the local (WAMP) installation of MySQL, which I am able to do.  But my remote site already has an existing MySQL database and tables.  So should I be making the MySQL Connection to the remote database instead?  Or exporting the remote server's database and importing it locally for development purposes?  What's the best practice?
    If making the connection to my local database is recommended, how do I transfer any changes that I make on my local db to the remote database?  Do I need to export locally & import to the remote db, using phpmyadmin, every time I make changes to the local database?
    If making the connection to my remote database is recommended, I have 2 questions: 1) do I even need my local WAMP MySQL database for anything?  and 2)  I was able to connect to my remote MySQL, (first got "MySQL ERROR 1045 Access Denied", but then went into my remote server via CPanel, found the "Remote MySQL" function, and entered my long current domain name as a new Access Host), but since I'm at a home office without a static IP, will I have to keep going into CPanel and entering in a new Access Host every time my IP address changes?
    Apologies for the confusion.  Any pointers to recommended best practices would be much appreciated.

    Update: my IP address changed slightly yesterday and I was denied remote MySQL access again.  Went back to CPanel and modified my Access Host domain with a few wildcard characters (blah-blah-blah-%%%%.dsl.bell.ca).  That got me back in.  Is this what most people who want remote MySQL access do?  Is it a (significant) security risk?
    Or do most people without static IPs just not bother with remote MySQL access?

  • Composition runs properly locally, but buggy remotely

    Hi friends. Just want to preface that the following composition works locally whether I am launching an Edge Animate Preview, or looking at the composition through http on my local Apache installation.  When I access the composition through a remote server, is when the errors occur.  The silver lining is that the same errors occur regardless of who is accessing the page across location and browser.
    With that I'll post the document.compositionReady code:
    /* Initialize Sound */
    var assetsPath = "media/";
    EC.Sound.setup(
            {src: assetsPath + "Coaching_5.mp3|" + assetsPath + "Coaching_5.ogg", id: "slide_5"},
            {src: assetsPath + "Coaching_5a.mp3|" + assetsPath + "Coaching_5a.ogg", id: 'slide_5_1'},
            {src: assetsPath + "Coaching_5b.mp3|" + assetsPath + "Coaching_5b.ogg", id: 'slide_5_2'}
        function(){ EC.info("Sound setup finished", "DEMO"); }
    /* Initialize Z-Indexing */

    sym.$("polaroid_1").click( function() {
              shiftButtons(1);
    sym.$("polaroid_2").click( function () {
              shiftButtons(2);
    /* shiftButtons will trigger a series of GSAP animations to show popup content based on selected photo icon */
    function shiftButtons(_arg)

                 TweenMax.to(sym.$("polaroid_2"),1,{css:{left:680, top:170}});
                        TweenMax.to(sym.$("popup_1"),1,{css:{left:33}});
                        TweenMax.to(sym.$("popup_2"),1,{css:{left:1000}});
                        EC.info( "clicked on pic 1, depth = " + currZI);
                        currZI++;
              else if (_arg == 2)
                 sym.$("polaroid_2").css({"position":"absolute", "z-index":currZI});
                        TweenMax.to(sym.$("polaroid_1"),1,{css:{left:0, top:170}});
                        TweenMax.to(sym.$("polaroid_2"),1,{css:{left:0, top:70}});
                        TweenMax.to(sym.$("popup_1"),1,{css:{left:-1207}});
                        TweenMax.to(sym.$("popup_2"),1,{css:{left:481}});
                        EC.info( "clicked on pic 2, depth = " + currZI );
                        currZI++;
    function playAudio(_arg)
    EC.info( "audio trigger: " + _arg);
    EC.Sound.play("slide_5_" + _arg);
    function stopAllAudio()
       //EC.Sound.stop("slide_5");  // Not used for now
       EC.Sound.stop("slide_5_1");
       EC.Sound.stop("slide_5_2");
    What's happened here when viewed remotely, some of the Tween instructions were "skipped" (not executed).  I solved the problem with the two popups not firing by simply combining them into a single div and "pushing" that single div with all of the popup content around the stage.
    After that however, I'm finding that remotely, the first time audio should play (when launched by a button click) it does not play.  Every subsequent audio trigger works, just not the very first one.  I'm wondering if there is a conflict here with the stopAllAudio() function.
    Thank you.
    Patrick

    I had already tried commenting out the second line (setting of the FileName property) on the report object and got the same results.  If I comment out the first line, I need to replace it with something like...
    ReportDocument cr = new ReportDocument();
    ... otherwise where would I specify the path and filename of the report?  If I replace that line with the web report object like I was originally...
    CrystalDecisions.Web.Report cr = new CrystalDecisions.Web.Report();
    ... this won't work either because the Logon() routine (borrowed from the sample app) expects the report reference passed in to be a CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument object.
    Incidentally, this alternative approach from the sample code, unlike my original code using Web.Report, won't even work in my development environment.  So I'm back where I started.  Since all of my other reports work just fine both in the dev environment and on the server, I'm forced to assume that the problem is something specific to sub-reports since none of my other reports have them.  If I can find a way to apply the LogOnInfo to the sub-reports using the Web.Report object, that might do the trick.  No luck yet, however.
    Oh, and one more thing, I found a surprising bug in the Logon() routine of that sample app:
    // If the ApplyLogon function fails then return a false for this function.
    // We are applying logon information to the main report at this stage.
    if (ApplyLogon(cr, ci))
                    return false;
    It should be...
    if (!ApplyLogon(cr, ci))

  • Locally persisting URLClassLoader remote classes

    Hi.
    I will use URLClassLoader for loading classes from remote URL (http).
    I require persisting locally downloaded classes for reuse in future JVM invocations running my application in order to improve performance in server and response time in client.
    I understand URLClassLoader does not behave this way (please correct me if I'm wrong) but before coding a custom class loader I wonder if you know of any utility or project providing this functionality .
    I also require:
    - Class loader loads the latest version of the classes, checking timestamp or UUID of downloaded cached local classes against those in server.
    - Downloading the .jar where the .class is packaged instead of just downloading the .class.
    Finally I have some questions about network class loading:
    - Does remote class loading overloads the system serving the classes? The same system will also serve web applications and possible database and I want system resources devoted to web applications, not streaming classes all the time.
    - Is remote URL required to be a public folder? I want tokeep my classes private and streaming them through a front servlet.
    Thanks for your time. Regards.
    Antonio.

    I understand URLClassLoader does not behave this wayNot sure about that. I would investigate further before committing yourself to any code.
    I wonder if you know of any utility or project providing this functionality .JNLP.
    - Class loader loads the latest version of the classes, checking timestamp or UUID of downloaded cached local classes against those in server.JNLP.
    - Downloading the .jar where the .class is packaged instead of just downloading the .class. URLClassLoader already does that. See the Javadoc. It explicitly says that the jar is downloaded.
    Finally I have some questions about network class loading:
    - Does remote class loading overloads the system serving the classes?Compared to what? JAR files aren't particularly large, and they are downloaded once at most in the lifetime of the URLClassLoader. Even if URLClassLoader downloaded individual classes, that would only happen once per class per client JVM.
    - Is remote URL required to be a public folder? I want tokeep my classes privateI guess you could use an Authenticator for that but you'll get tangled up with other uses of it.
    and streaming them through a front servlet.You're worried about performance and you're adding extra processing? Just stick them somewhere on an Apache web server, or in a Tomcat under the path to an existing application. You don't need your own servlet for this, it doesn't add anything.
