Dweaver:.jpg rollover activates .swf in seperate AP-Div

Thursday, May 15th, 2008: 7:22pm PDT
Hi,
I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 and I have built separate Flash CS3
.swf movie clip files that are contained (one at a time) in the
center of the page by an AP-Div Tag on my web page. Around the
center AP-Div tag are eight (8) small .jpeg thumbnails of the Flash
.swf movie clips they represent. I am trying to create eight (8)
disjointed rollovers that swap out the .jpg for the .swf in the
center.
I want to hover over the small .jpeg (still image) and have
Dreamweaver javascript swap out one .swf file for the one being
hovered over. I cannot get this to happen. Dreamweaver CS3 will not
swap out the .swf using the Behavior Attributes palette
"Swap-Out/Restore" feature.
How can I accomplish this task?
P.S.: On the other hand, a simple disjointed static
.jpeg-to-.jpeg works fine.

Div tags 98-101 are positioned in the right place when I'm looking at my page in Dreamweaver. But when I preview the page, those 4 div tags are not where they're supposed to be
I thought I was reading it wrong, but you really do have 101 AP divs on the page. I don't have the time to go through your code, but using absolutely positioned divs as the sole basis for page layout is likely to lead to massive problems. AP divs (or layers, as they used to be called) were all the rage several years ago, because people wrongly thought they would make web pages work like desktop publishing. I used them, too, until I realized they caused massive problems.
It won't solve your current problem, I'm afraid, but I recommend that you take a look at the following page, which describes some of the problems with AP div/layers: http://apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php.

  • Loading SWF in Dreamweaver using DIV and Accordian

    Hi
I am wanting to create a web page with a vertical navigation panel on the left of the page and because this will includes 'categories' and 'sub categories' (see below)
    CATEGORY 1
    sub category 1a
    sub category 1b
    sub category 1c
    sub category 1d
    sub category 1e
    CATEGORY 2
    sub category 2a
    sub category 2b
    sub category 2c
    sub category 2e
Ideally I would want the Category tabs when clicked to reveal the sub categories (Accordian)
I have the Spry Accordian set in a Div at the moment in Dreamweaver and the sub categories
open up and function fine. What I would like to achieve is to make all those sub categories links, to insert a SWF in to the div that is located to the right of the vertical nav column. (see attachment simple diagram) So, say sub category 2a was clicked then in the 'SWF display area div', the SWF associated with that link would appear, the if 'sub category 2d' was clicked the same 'SWF area div' was populated with the SWF linked to 'sub category 2d', if 'sub category 2e' was clicked then the SWF associated with 'sub category 2e' would then load into the 'SWF area div'. The attached image may make things clearer.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me.

    Hi
What you are talking about is an ajax enabled page, you can use html or xml using spry, (see - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/spry/)
Or any type of page php, asp, etc. using one of the javascript frameworks such as jQuery.

  • How to: Save jpg frames to swf animation.

I create signatures for my friends to use in posts on forums
at the end of their messages.
    Examples here:
    http://s12.invisionfree.com/venvenaevici
Recently I decided to try animation, but saving in gif format
isnt allowing me to save with as much detail as I would like and
the backgrounds are comming out grainy and not smooth. After a
weeks worth of trouble shooting I think my solution is to save the
several .jpg files I have refined into a flash, but I dont know how
to do that. Can anyone help?
Also when it is saved I would like it to auto play and loop
like this gif animation I have. If only I could get it to save as
it looks on preview, or if I had proper training :/
    Animation Example:

Background Example without the animation of above:

The program I used to get the animation frames in the first

  • Resize the swf in an elastic div

Hi, i want to explain my problem:
I've an elastic css layout, and there is a div hat countains
my swf, this div has height and width variables, that is, the
dimension of the div is not fixed, height and width are not in px
    but in %.
Now, I want to know how can I do to have the swf resizabe
100% height and 100% width in the div? If I give 100% to height and
width in the embed tag the result it's that the swf don't resize it
self, but there are white spaces in the div (if I click with the dx
buttom of the mouse on th white spaces I see the traditioal flash
    menù).
Someone says to me that the solution is to use an
    actionscript with a stage object.
I'm not an expert of flash, someone can help me with this
    problem?
    Thanks!

  • Displaying an swf below an html div layer

I'm trying to get an swf to display underneath an html div,
but the browser seems to always put the swf on the top-most layer.
I read a while back when I tried this before that it wasn't
possible as the browser would always load plug-in content top most,
but I notice on thsi site (adobe.com) the menu's are html based and
display over the promo swf element within the home page. Adobe use
some fairly heavy javascript to display all the elements to their
page so trying to work it out from that is a bit hectic - if anyone
can tell me the principles to getting html divs above swfs that
    would be much appreciated
    Thanks

I believe if you place the following code in your
<object> tag you will get what you want.

  • .SWF not functioning inside DIV tag

Ok so here is my problem... I'm trying to insert a nice
little xml banner into my site and I'm trying to insert it inside a
Div to control its position. As soon as I insert the file into the
</div> it renders it useless other than a black screen. I'm a
novice at best and I'm trying to work my way through W3Schools, but
for the mean time are there any suggestions as to what I can do? I
know that the files function because if I simply insert them into a
new blank document the operate fine.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

Could you reduce it to just the code that is giving you a
    problem?

  • Movie clip to seperate swf

    hey quick question,
i already made my flash site but realized afterwards that swf file is way too big. i compressed the images in photoshop as jpgs (72 dpi) but the site still loads way too slow during the preloader. the only option that i can think of is to make the site a swf file and the work section as another swf file. how would go about creating a seperate swf from my work section (which is a movie clip)?
    thanks

have you considered removing all the jpgs from the swf and loading them?

  • Preloading SWF for later

I have a character in a game that has alot of animations
associated with him. these animations are triggered by a rollover,
and reside as seperate swf files on a server. what I want to do is
preload an animation from the server, without actualy loading it
into the movieclip. then once the rollover happens I want to play
the preloaded swf in the movieClip. I've tried using loadMovie, but
theres a few frames while the swf is loading where the movieClip is
    empty. Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Simon

Instead of using loadMovieNum create a empty movieclip in
your main fla file. Assign a instance name to this movie clip and
    use movieClipInstance.loadMovie("bigFile.swf");. You can use
MovieClipLoader class to check the progress of loaded content and
then use onLoadProgress event to set movieClipInstance._visible =
    false;
Please let me know if I'm not clear and send me the FLA file
you are using. I'll make changes to the code.

  • OSX 10.5.2 and AR8.1.2 playing swf files

After applying the latest Apple updates to OSX 10.5.2 I find that I can no longer play
swf files from within a PDF file. I'm using AR8.1.2 with FP9,0,115,0 . Consider
    the example:
    http://www.amrita-cfd.org/4adobe/swf/swf.pdf
It contains an /Annot "Click to activate SWF!" that is supposed
to play the swf, but when I click it: a progress bar "buffering" appears
in the bottom right corner of the screen and then hangs. The swf file
is included as an attachment, shock-tube.swf, which can be
opened in an external viewer and so I don't think the swf file
    is the problem.
I have the same problem with the PDF available at:
    http://acrobat.timhuff.net/?p=92
where the swf is embedded using Acrobat,
    rather than my homebrew approach.
I would very grateful if anyone could shed light
    on this problem.
    Thanks,
    James Quirk

    James,
I am seeing what you are seeing even on pdfs with swfs that I created
that previously worked. I guess we will need to file a bug report.

  • How to improve .swf weight in bytes

    Hi guys,
I have quite a sad problem, my swf file is too heavy (roughly
1mb) and i want it a lot smaller.
Problem is, i've done an animation frame-by-frame, including
1 new photo on each new key-frame (52 keyframe overall). Now, i've
tryed saving them as .png, and my .swf file is roughly 650kb. But
someone said me that the best photo format to use on flash is jpeg,
so i changed all the format of the photos to jpg (in fact, each
photo was 60kb as png and 22kb as jpg) but the swf file has no
change in weight (1mb roughly) even if i lower the quality of the
movie, it keeps on 1mb (the exact dimension of all the photos i'm
trying to import). Same problem if i try to save them as .gif.
Did any of you have some suggestion to solve my problem?
    Thx for reading this,
    Mith84

I suggest you think about building this in Captivate instead.  If you are on Captivate 6.1 you already have drag and drop functionality native to the app you can use to do something like this.  If you don't have Cp6.1 and you don't have any plans of upgrading, then you can use Infosemantics Drag and Drop Widgets to do this:

  • Rollover images not properly aligning in design view

    Hello,
I am a self taught Web design teacher and I have seemed to run into an issue with roll-over images as links. I am teaching my students to use photoshop to create two images for rollover buttons. When the students insert the images, everything works fine except for the alignment on page. One link/button makes a new line on the page and forces everything to the right on screen. But when we preview it in a browser, it looks correct. I also don't know any JAVA coding other than what I should be looking at when we create the rollover links. Do you have any suggestions for me?
(also if you find anything that is obsolete in my code, please let me know. Again, I am self taught with NO formal education in it)

  • Bringing Flash .swf files into Captivate

    Greetings,
I use Captivate 2.0. I have been trying to bring a Flash .swf
file into Captivate with very little success. The flash file is
clickable (so that users can review case study information as they
complete Try It simulations). When I bring the Flash .swf file into
Captivate, it works. However, correction (or failure messages)
display every time the user clicks the Flash .swf file. Is there
anything that I can do within Captivate to stop this issue?
Ideally, I would like the Flash .swf to run on top of the Captivate
file so that users can view the case study details without having
    to see the failure messages.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this. I
hope it makes sense to you.

Hi Zabcde (or PMW or P?)
Can I just understand (sorry for being thick) your situation.
You're trying to get a flash movie into a captivate session that
the user can work on, see, interact with whilst they're also going
through a Captivate simulation (try it)? Does that mean that slides
are advancing for the simulation whilst you're watching the flash
movie? Or are they watching the Flash movie as a kind of help to
then go and do the Try It session?
If it's the first, then I would suggest calling the Flash swf
and the Captivate swf as seperate instances in flash (using
loadmovienum or something). If it's the second, you should be able
to remove the failure captions from that slide so they don't bug
    you.
Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick though
    Cheers

  • Need ideas on alt image for swf

    Hi guys,
I made a big mistake.  I've built a website which uses a large, single button bar swf with multiple buttons for navigation.  Now I'm getting reports from some users that the "site doesn't work" or they can't "use it right" - which means that I've got users out there who don't understand flash player, don't have it, or use IE9.  Maybe one or two who use an ipad but I'm doubting that's my biggest problem.
It's for a small town city council election, so there's not a whole lot riding on it from that point of view, but I made it and I want it to be impressive.  Moreover, I don't want to look like the doofus I feel like.
There are seven buttons, in one swf in one div.
So, I want to build something different, or replace something... I don't know, I'm an illustrator picking up web design.
My options as I see them:
    A) Leave it as it is, and place in a series of jpegs (seven of them) which I figure will just stack up on top of each other.  So, put seven jpegs in as alts for one swf.  Make them linkable.
Question one: is this possible?  Question two: can a jpeg be an alt, or a link for that matter?  Question three: if this is feasible, do I have my positioning correct with this highlight below?

    B) Go back to scratch and make seven new buttons.  Subdiv seven times.  Use jpegs as each alt, as a link.
Questions: same as above, basically.  I have all twenty one images for the buttons already made, and I only have eight pages to fix if I go this route.
    C) Leave it as it is, and place in a series of text links.
    D) Keep trying to find a flash detector which actually works for me and ignore the rest of it.  I haven't found one that works so I've just put a small "if you can't use the site you need flash player" line under my main container on the front page with a link to adobe.  It completely ignores the IE9 and Ipad crowd, but I don't know how to fix that right now.
    E)  Put in a series of small text nav links under the main image where I had planned to link to my own site with credits.  But hey, I'm going on two months of completely ignoring my own site to do this one, so why not?
That's all I can think of.  My main priority is that I want it to look outstanding (even on an ipad), but I think functionality is really key here, and more important.  I've been chasing tutorials and discussions for four days now and I'm stuck in a rut.  I'm afraid to commit to doing the button work because I don't understand my options well, and I haven't found the clarity I need to figure it out.

Some of the walkthroughs are telling me the javascript file is in the same folder, some of them are saying to put it in my scripts folder... one even says it needs to be in the folder with the images...
So I place the basically unaltered javascript file into (I assume is correct location) scripts folder,  I use the small script prompt line in the head, I remove my swf info which Dreamweaver built me, and put in the info that swfobject generator gave me:
