Dynamic sub-topic slide counter in Captivate 7

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me guidance on the following routine that i would like to implement using Captivate 7.
I would like a front-end menu selector slide to dynamically count how many slides are allocated to each of the sub-topics so that it can 'show' when all slides have been completed topic by topic.
I envisage puting a pre-loaded topic selector onto my master slide, so that when you load a new slide into the filmstrip, you would choose from a 'dropdown' as to which topic this slide belongs (this dropdown would not be visible in runtime)
This way, when i enter the package in runtime, I can use the system variable to count how many slide are in the total package, but when i get to the menu slide, it will have dynamically counted how many slides are alloctaed to each topic before i enter the topics. Once the total amount of slides allocated to a topic have been completed, the menu button will indicate this.
It is the sub-topic dynamic counting part of this query that i am having trouble with.

OK, Captivate has a system variable that calculates how many slides are in a total package, but, for example, my package is broken down into sub-topics of:
Colours
Animals,
Cars
Flowers
etc ....
When I am developing the content and I add a new slide from my Master template, there will be a dropdown menu (not visible in runtime) from which I select which topic this new slide belongs to (ie Colours, Animals, etc ......). So I can do this for all new slides added to my package. (Probably a variable set for each slide which will be 'Slidetopic = Colours' or 'Slidetopic = Cars')
When I finally run the package, I will have a 'Menu' slide where I can choose which sub-topic I want to visit, but I wan Captivate to dynamically count how many slides are there allocated to 'Colours', how many are set to 'Animals', etc, etc .....
This way I can then determine exactly when I have completed the 'Cars' topic and change the menu button to indicate this fact.
Upon initial entry, I would suspect my menu screen will display information such as:
Total slides = 40
Colours = 12 slides
Animals = 8 slides
Cars = 14 slides
Flowers = 6 slides
It is the dynamic counting of the sub-topic quantity where I am hoping that someone may help me.
Does this make my ambitions any clearer Lilybiri ?

I can't get my Dynamic PDF Widget to work in Captivate 7

Hello all,
I've been trying to get my Dynamic PDF to work in my Captivate 7 project. I have created a button on the final slide where I want the user to open the PDF, I have named it correctly to correspond with the Dynamic PDF. I have also updated everything within the editor to appear how I would like it to appear. I have also tried viewing it in various formats such as Published, In a Browser etc. and nothing appears to work for me.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Peter,
Please make sure that the pdf is also saved in the same published folder .
Also test the behavior in other browsers as well like Chrome and Firefox .
If you still face this issue then try to add the published output in trusted location of Flash.

I know you can add a progress bar to the skin, but is there
any way to insert an actual slide counter in a Captivate project or
skin?

If you are using Captivate 4, you can acheive this using
Variables.
1. Insert a text caption and set it to appear for rest of
project
2. Insert variables cpInfoCurrentSlide and rdinfoSlideCount
into the text caption.

Selective slide scoring in Captivate 7

Hello there.
Let me present this as a scenario...
On Slide 1 I want the viewer to select A or B using buttons. If they select A they go to Slide 2 which has a question to answer. If they select B they go to Slide 3 that has a different question to answer. In both cases they then go to slide 4 and on through the presentation/quiz. They only ever answer the question on slide 2 OR slide 3, never both.
All that works fine and is easy. However, when the scores are totalled, the non-used slide counts as skipped, so the viewer can never score 100% and has always "missed" a slide.
How do I get the programme to ignore the slide that has not been required for the particular viewer?

So make slide 1 a pretest (yes, I just searched for "Branch aware" in the handbook PDF). I shall give that a go and report back, thanks (though in reality "slide 1" is in the middle of a quiz).

It will only let the pretest sit at the start of the quiz, unfortunately, so moving everything around is an option but not my preference at this point.

Problems copying and pasting multiple slides from one captivate to another.

I have been able to copy and paste several slides into
another captivate and suddenly this has stopped working. I am using
the ctrl key to select multiple slides (a set of 3) and the using
the Edit drop-down to select copy slide. Then, I click on the other
captivate and click paste slides. It is only bringing 1 slide, the
first one, and not the 2nd and 3rd... any ideas. I've had another
set of eyes look over my shoulder... and we're both scratching our
heads.
Also, for some reason the text entry boxes are being copied,
but the failure caption associated with it does not come along. It
also copied the button but lost the association with the text entry
box. WTH?

This might work, this might not. I have copy paste problems
on a regular basis and all that works for me is closing Captivate
down and then re open and continue. At worst, a reboot tends to
solve this glitch in my experience.

I can't seem to access my East/West Colossus samples in logic. I call up a new session, slecet software instruments, go to where Audio Units instruments are on your channel strip. Colossus does not show up. It worked before.
I wanted to go back to using tiger it seemed to work better so I tried to installed that but had problems doing so. I then installed 10.5 back to the way I had it before when all was fine. So I install 10.5 again went well. In stalled Logic/pro went well. Installed East/west colossus.
Audio Unit Mangers states Successful valuation everything passes But This Error message.
ERROR: AU incorrectly reports Dynamic Configuration capability (bus count is not writable)
Does anyone have an idea whats going on

How can I disable the "go to last visited slide" option in captivate?

Can anybody tell me how can I disable the "go to last visited slide" option in captivate so that every time when i launch my captivate file from a LMS, it WILL NOT go back to the last visited slide? I know that Lectora has a checkbox for this but i can't seem to find it in Captivate.

Are you deploying on a LMS? In that case check the option 'Never Send Resum Data' in Preferences, Quiz, Reporting, LMS Customization Settings.
If you are not deploying on LMS, check if Self-paced Learning is disabled in the TOC?

Imported SWFs have max slide count?

I have an animation slide in my captivate presentation.
On the animation slide is a SWF file (created by Captivate)
that contains 19 slides.
When I run the SWF in standalone mode it works fine.
If I run the new presentation with the SWF imported, the
animation slide stops after 12 slides are shown in the SWF file on
that slide.
Is there any way I can fix this?

Try extending the play-time of the animation-object and see
if that helps ...

Code for Presentation Slide Counter

I have a slide presentation I have created with a slide
counter. My problem I am haveing is the slide counter updates
current frame and total number of frames from the "_root" or which
is the begining of the flash document. I have created a preloader
on a previous scene. What happens is the slide counter is adding
these 3 or 4 key frames into its total. So when the presentation
starts it shows its starting on "slide 5" and not 1.
Question: Does anyone know how to have the code read the
amount of slide in the current scene rather than the entire Movie
(_root)?
I have pasted the code below. Any ideas, help, or suggestions
would be more than appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What is wrong with the Views/Topics/Messages counts in the Leopard forums?

I would guess the first one is right
At Category level the Views versus Posts look similar in low level thread areas
Depending when the software counts a View for the category List (It may not count the Original Post) the others would seem to be right as in busy forums some posts move down the list quickly.

Single question slide issue in captivate 6

Hi,
I am new to captivate 6. I need to achive following functionality:
1. Single check point question slide without result page which will be MCQ or any type of question.
Consider the sinario for MCQ question
2. If user doesnot select any option, he should be informed about the same (which is happening at my end but not more than 1 time even after the attempt count is infinite)
3. There should be next button in disable state
4. if user selects wrong answer and click submit, he should get wrong feedback without the whole screen patch. He will click on retry button to close the feedback and reset the question
5. if user click on right answer and click submit, he will get right feedback and next button will get enabled
6. This Question should reset everytime you visit the page.
Let me know if this is possible in captivate 6?

Page Counter Variable & Captivate 4

Hello - I can't get a simple page counter variable to work that I snagged from Captain Captivate. When I click to preview, the project will not show. I’ve tried F4 and F12, it will not preview the project. When I click F3, it shows the variable text. I’ve downloaded his sample file, this will not preview either. When I delete the variable the previews work. Any ideas on how to solve this problem or is there another option for creating a simple page counter?

Hello,
You are talking about a slide number? There is a system variable cpInfoCurrentSlide that gives you that number. To have it on all the slides:
insert a Text Caption on the first slide, in which you insert this system variable, you can add other text as well
change the timing of this Text caption to 'for rest of project'
preview: you will have the slide number on each slide.

Cp6 - Ignoring slide(s) in the slide count? "$$cpInfoSlideCount$$"

My template uses the last slide (or more) as help slides. These slides are only accessable by way of a HELP button.
My issue is that I do not want these slides to be counted with the displayed value of the system variable "$$cpInfoSlideCount$$"
How can I accomplish this?
1) Either... by subtracting a known number... example 2 help pages so subtract 2 from $$cpInfoSlideCount$$.
2) Or... Telling Captivate 6 to not count the help pages (but still display them upon request).
3) Or... creating a custom variable, give it a value = $$cpInfoSlideCount$$ and subtract fixed value (i.e. 2). However, using this solution, that fixed value must be easy to change if the help slides grow or shrink.

But how do I set up the arithmatic?
Value: cpInfoSlideCount-2
Where 2 is the number of help pages.
Okay, that doesn't work (with or without the $$). It seemed like a logical approach.
How do I set the new page value?
It's been a while since I last used Captivate but I know I've done this before. Wish I could remember.

Retrieving & displaying values from a slide in Adobe Captivate 5.5

Hi,
I am using Adobe Captivate 5.5.
1.In a slide I assign a variable with "active" or "disabled" when user clicks Active button or Disabled button in that slide. This I do with Javascript.
2.In the next slide I am able to retrieve the resultant (active/disabled). And I want this result to be displayed on a button as a label or display in a Test Caption. Is it possible to do. If so how?

I am able to save the text in a java script variable and show the same in an alert (as you observed) but not clear/sure how to assign or save it to a user defined variable in Captivate. Kindly suggest how to first create this user defined variable and how to displays the contents in Captivate.
