Dynamically refresh a list box in a web report

Dear All,
I am having a serious issue with one of my web reports. I am using Oracle 9i PL/SQL Cartridges for developing my web reports. The problem is :
I have a drop down box for department and also a list box for locations.
I want to dynamically refresh the locations list box whenever the user selects a department.
I know I have to refresh the page somehow to get the list box requery from the database.
Can anyone please send me a sample code or suggest how to do it. I am new to PL/SQL cartridges.

althought his is not a PL/SQL cartridge forum i'll give it a shot.
the basic behind the solution would be that your procedure need input values that would be used to create this cascading effect. so you would have e.g. input values for region and country for a form that should provide selection fro region country and city.
when the procedure is called for the first time without any parameters, it would generate a drop down list for the first (region) parameter. when the user selects a value javascript would kick in that would submit the form that basically calls itself, but this time passing the value for the region parameter.
now the procedure would create two drop down lists (region and country) because it had a value passed for region. both drop down lists would have a javaScript event that would submit the form. the only difference would be that the region list would need to clear the value of the country value before submitting so changing the region would produce a new country list.
i hope that was clear enough. as for the code example. that is simple javaScript and you can find tons of examples on the Web. just look for "JavaScript" and "OnChange".

Dynamic retrieval in list boxes using JSP

Dear All,
I have a list box in a form which is created by extracting data from oracle database. There are approximately 26000 records which are added dynamically in the list box. There are five rows in the form and each row has to have a list box with all records. Now if i retrieve all records for all list boxes, the page takes high time to load. I also tried using String array to read once and write them using loops in list box. But even then the loading time is quiet high. Is there some better way so that the page loads fast enough. I am using Oracle Database and the table is indexed.

Well, it's big enough to make any page slow... but you can try to load all the list boxes in the client side with javascript.
i make that usually, create a javascript strings array and on the "onLoad" event fill all the list boxes with the values in that array.
but anyway is too much data.

Creation of Dynamic Date Variables to be used in WebI reports

What we are trying to achieve is to create 4 optional filters (Current Day, Current Week, Last Week, Last Month) on 4 different dates which will allow the users to use them in WebI reports.
When using an optional SAP Customer Exit variable in BEx and creating a Universe on top, the filter becomes mandatory (i.e. the whole Universe is filtered by the SAP Exit, irrespective of whether the filter is used in the WebI report). Even if the filter is flagged as optional at the Universe level, it still behaves as mandatory.
If each filter becomes mandatory then we'll have to create 16 different Universes (for each optional filter and date combination)! This is not feasible.
I've seen in other posts that MDX Statements are not currently supported for Universes base on BW and SAP Exit should be utilized.
So with the existing BO version, is it possible to create optional dynamic date variables or is that a product limitation?

In BEx, I would create this query very easily using the "Amount" key figure twice in my results and restricting each with a different SAP standard out-of-the-box delivered variable. For your reference, the variables in BEx are: 0FPER and 0FYTLFP.
If I expose these variables in my OLE DB for OLAP query, they are not transfered into the universe, but rather act as filters on the entire universe. I've seen in documentation that only "Ready for Input" variables can be transfered as options into the universe which is not something that I have seen mentioned in this thread.

Also, I don't have a good way to mimic the standard out-of-the-box functionality given with BEx in BO. The only work around I can see is to require users to enter the current fiscal period and have the BO reports filter based off that user entered value. This is unfortunate as the entire purpose of SAP Exit variables is to avoid having to require user input at report time.

Sort variable values in selection box in BEx web report.

Hello friends,
In my BEx web report I have cal/month selection. When I do dropdown to select values it starts with 01/1960 and I have to click 10 times to get to 01/2006, 02/2006 and so forth.
Is there a way to sort these values so I can get most current cal/month in first list?

I would consider changing the read mode for the dropdown box. Are all of those dates actually relevant? Check out the properties of the dropdown box in WAD.

How to add Tabs and List Boxes in Webi Report in Reporting Area(Not Report Filters & Input Controls)

Hi All,
I have a requirement to use some components called List Box and Tabs in my WebI report for presenting the information by dynamic dimension and measure selection using list box and segregate information by using Tabs as in below image.
Image was prepared in MSPaint not executable webi report.
Is it possible to integrate the list box and tabs into Report Zone in BO Webi? as show in below image?

Hello Muralidhar Reddy,
The exact tool for your requirement is SAP BO Dashboard or SAP BO Design studio. WebI is a tool for ad-hoc reporting tool and we have limited functionalities to make dashboards using webI. You can have all those chart options in WebI and you can use Input controls or drill filters for restricting data. But you cannot have these selection components in reporting area. Tabs as shown in above post, you can have in bottom of the report.

9i or 10g application running with JAWS - activating List Boxes

The keyboard shortcut for activating List Boxes in a Web environment (either 9i or 10G) is to use ALT+DOWNARROW key. THis works absolutely fine when running without JAWS screen reader, but as soon as JAWS is loaded then ALT+DOWNARROW does nothing -- this seems to render any FORMS application inaccessible. I cannot believe that this is the case, given Oracle's position regarding section 508 / accesibility etc. Has anyone come accross this problem before, any ideas??

For web application using PL/SQL and the old Oracle Application Server, it doesn't make a lot of difference between 9iASR2 and 10g. Last year we migrated one of our critical web application from OAS to 9iASR2 with no change of code. The new system is actually much more stable with less system crash.
I would still recommend to migrate directly to 10g and skip 9iASR2.
The reason is 10g(9.0.4) is really a maintenance version of 9iASR2(9.0.2) with all the required bug fix and some new features. We have been trying to migrate some applications to 9iASR2 for more than 1 year now but some technical issue stopped the production implementation. We are currently waiting for the 10g Windows version or we may try out the Linux version.
There is a lot of good feedback related to 10g.

Hi all,
I am creating a report which has a list box prompt. When I am selecting a single value from the list box the report is working fine, but when I am selecting multiple values its not returning any data( although data is there). Does anyone know how the prompt values are passed to the report query by the crystal. I kno it passes the value to the report as an array. But how does it pass the value to the report query.
I am using command query to fetch data from the DB.
Crystal Report Version: Crystal Report XI R2.
DB: Oracle 10g
Also does anyone know how to pass the values of the list box prompt to the report query in comma seperated format.

In regards to the latter part of your question
The following examples are applicable to Basic and Crystal syntax.
The examples assume that list is a String array consisting of the 3 elements: "Chocolate", "Vanilla" and "Strawberry".
Join (list)
Returns the String "Chocolate Vanilla Strawberry".
Join (list, "***")
Returns the String "Chocolate**Vanilla**Strawberry".
Not sure about the first part of your question,sorry.

Poor performance when using drop down box on web report

We are using dropdown box functionality in web reporting to allow easy selection of characteristics values. We have 4 dropdown boxes
that represents Region, Area, Country and division.
We need to use booked_values = 'Q' to show only relevant values for selection in the dropdown. However the issue is takes a long time for results to appear
on the template. Read from Fact table is quick but process of deriving drop down values is very slow.

1) If the values in the drop down box....are NOT dependent on user selection...then webserver can send them along with the first page....and cache them on client m/c...for multiple client/server dialogs....
2) If the values are changing based on what the user selected from a previous input......then...you need to do some research on how SAP Webserver could optimize the "network traffic"......For example: a) Apache webserver has a module that compresses the content on the webserver side and then send to the client...b)A Client browser plugin decompresses the received packet and displays appropriately....
3) We may need to research the latest SAP webserver capabilities....

Getting subreport (tab) of a Webi report

I'm looking for a way (with Web Services SDK or/and with Business Objects Enterprise SDK) to refresh a tab (subreport) of a Webi report and to download it.
I'm knowing how to refresh and download a webi report already but I do not find a way to only get a subreport :s Using DocumentInformation or other? A special query?

So we loose a feature by updating the BO from 3.1 to 4.0?
Here is the way we use today with the 3.1 (but who will be obsolete with the API 4.0 because reportEngine becomes obsolete) :

Best tool to reduce the network bandwidth for WEBI reports

Hi Experts,
We have a central BO XI server installed in Head Office. Few users are needed to connet to Head Office from their place (Regions) to access the WEBI reports.
For this we have two options to refresh the report.
1. BO InfoView
2. Web Intelligence Rich Client
My question is , which is the best way to reduce the internet bandwidth. Since my users are on remote location and doesn't have good link, which one is the best option to reduce the bandwidth consumtion.

If you're launching Webi Rich Client in 3-tier (ZABO) mode there should be no difference from Infoview refresh, as WRC will utilize same webi report servers for refresh as Infoview does.
If you use 2-tier mode with WRC, then refresh will be local, using local connection to the reporting DB.
I'd say Infoview will be less bandwith intensive and you will be sending only structured and prepared data tot he client browser, not the rough data report needs.
To further decrease bandwith, you can design your server infrastructure to have regional processing, that way most communicatyions with be local and requests go to central location only for main data...

Last Refersh date in Webi Report

I'm getting different last refresh date and time on the webi report(using drill down report). I am getting the right date on the main report, wrong date showing on the sub report report.
Could anyone advise me ASAP?

Thanks 4 reply, main report is showing correct 'Last refresh Date' but Sub Report showing a day ahead (Ex. if refresh the report today its showing 7th July,but the sub report showing 8th July. as 'last refresh date').i already refreshed the drill down report, but its still showing 8th July, its really strange.

How to populate list in tree view dynamically

I am new to Indesign Plugin creation.
I want to create list in tree view dynamically.
I tried wlistboxcomposite sdk sample in indesign cs4.
I have some doubts in this.
1. Can i write my own method in WLBCmpTreeViewAdapter class because it's implements ListTreeViewAdapter
If it's possible how can i call this method.
2. In this example they populating static string in constructor like this

Hello Susana,
To maintain dynamic values for a specific answer, select your survey in the Survey Suite and go to the maintenance of survey attributes (CTRL+F12). Under the tab 'Technical settings', you can maintain the 'Callback to PBO' function module, which allows you to modify the survey at runtime. (The function module you specify here is called by the survey tool runtime environment at PBO.)
As an example, you can have a look at the function module 'CRM_SVY_EXAMPLE_DYNAMIC_PBO', which contains a section to set answer options at runtime. Of course, you would have to program your own logic to meet your specific requirements for setting the values.
