E2000 TKIP and AES

I have a e2000 router.  On my older wrt routers I was able to chosse the type of encryption either TKIP or AES.  On the e2000 when I select wpa2 i have no place to pick what type of encryption I want to use.  Does it just use aes as the default now?

WPA2 are using AES by default. But with newer routers, they're usually automatically set to TKIP and AES.
With Eseries routers (E1000/2000/3000/4200), WPA or WPA2 are usually using TKIP and AES

  • WPA-TKIP WPA2-AES Connection speed

    Hi,
    My customer uses controller based wireless network. There is a connection speed problem between two SSID's. First SSID uses WPA(TKIP+AES) and WPA2(TKIP+AES) encryption method and dot1x authentication method. Second SSID uses open authentication (this is a guest SSID)
    802.11 a/n/ac is enable on WLC and client can connect with these methods. But clients connect to the first SSID with 802.11 b/g (54 Mbps) and connect to the second SSID with 802.11 a/n/ac. Customer wants to know why our clients connect with low speed to first SSID even if a/n/ac is enable.
    Sometimes WPA-TKIP encryption methods can reduce the connection speed. Do you have any idea about that and official document about this problem?
    Thanks,
    Burhan,

    TKIP and AES are two different types of encryption that can be used by a Wi-Fi network. TKIP stands for “Temporal Key Integrity Protocol.” It was a stopgap encryption protocol introduced with WPA to replace the very-insecure WEP encryption at the time. TKIP is actually quite similar to WEP encryption. TKIP is no longer considered secure, and is now deprecated. In other words, you shouldn’t be using it.
    AES stands for “Advanced Encryption Standard.” This was a more secure encryption protocol introduced with WPA2, which replaced the interim WPA standard. AES isn’t some creaky standard developed specifically for Wi-Fi networks; it’s a serious worldwide encryption standard that’s even been adopted by the US government. For example, when you encrypt a hard drive with TrueCrypt, it can use AES encryption for that. AES is generally considered quite secure, and the main weaknesses would be brute-force attacks (prevented by using a strong passphrase) and security weaknesses in other aspects of WPA2.
    The “PSK” in both names stands for “pre-shared key” — the pre-shared key is generally your encryption passphrase. This distinguishes it from WPA-Enterprise, which uses a RADIUS server to hand out unique keys on larger corporate or government Wi-Fi networks.
    In summary, TKIP is an older encryption standard used by the old WPA standard. AES is a newer Wi-Fi encryption solution used by the new-and-secure WPA2 standard. In theory, that’s the end of it. But, depending on your router, just choosing WPA2 may not be good enough.
    While WPA2 is supposed to use AES for optimal security, it also has the option to use TKIP for backward compatibility with legacy devices. In such a state, devices that support WPA2 will connect with WPA2 and devices that support WPA will connect with WPA. So “WPA2″ doesn’t always mean WPA2-AES. However, on devices without a visible “TKIP” or “AES” option, WPA2 is generally synonymous with WPA2-AES.
    WPA and TKIP compatability options can also slow your Wi-Fi network down. Many modern Wi-Fi routers that support 802.11n and newer, faster standards will slow down to 54mbps if you enable WPA or TKIP in their options. They do this to ensure they’re compatible with these older devices.
    In comaprison, even 802.11n supports up to 300mbps — but, generally, only if you’re using WPA2 with AES. Theoretically, 802.11ac offers theoretical maximum speeds of 3.46 Gbps under optimum (read: perfect) conditions.
    In other words, WPA and TKIP will slow a modern Wi-Fi network down. It’s not all about security!

  • Provider for VIA's x86 hardware RNG and AES

    Hello.
    For those who are running Java (under Windows or Linux) on a modern VIA processor, you might be interested in downloading this provider, which uses the hardware for true random number generation and AES encryption/decryption.
    Depending on the data size, encryption mode, and processor, AES encryption is 15 to 90 times faster than the default Sun provider.
    The provider is free and can be downloaded here: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=22&DSCat=162&DCatType=1
    A forthcoming version will add support for the newest security features of the processor, hardware SHA-1 and SHA-256 and hardware Montgomery Multiply.

    Nope, that doesn't work either.
    For what it's worth, I always got the "Unknown Card-Ids" message, even with the Testing version of Xorg 7, and with Xorg 6.8.2 - and AGPDMA works perfectly for both of those.
    Now, I tried doing X -configure to create the config file and not getting rid of the vendor/model "information":
    VendorName "Unknown Vendor"
    BoardName "Unknown Board"
    That gets rid of the "failed to initialize ring buffer" error, but AGPDMA is still not enabled:
    Current Operating System: Linux localhost 2.6.16-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Apr 12 18:59:19 CEST 2006 i686
    (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
    (II) Loading extension MIT-SCREEN-SAVER
    (EE) VIA(0): Unknown Card-Ids (1565|1200), report this to the driver maintainer ASAP
    (EE) VIA(0): [drm] drmAgpAcquire failed 1023
    And now, here's something I should have noticed a while ago... Check out these (edited for clarity) screenshots of xorgcfg in textmode:
    In Xorg 6.8.x, VIA cards were listed where the red line is pointing. Now they're not listed there, or anywhere in xorgcfg.
    Likewise, the "via" driver is simply not listed; again, it was in Xorg 6.8.x, even after the installation of the necessary DRI snapshots for VIA hardware.
    Note that the above is observable with any of the available Unichrome drivers installed - xf86-video-via, xf86-video-unichrome, and xf86-video-openchrome all produce the same results.
    Also, I can't confirm this for xorgcfg's graphical mode, for the simple reason that the graphical mode just crashes:
    [root@localhost ~]# xorgcfg
    Warning: Cannot convert string "menu10" to type Pixmap
    Warning: Cannot convert string "menu10" to type Pixmap
    Can't create rules structure
    Think this strange stuff has any bearing on the AGPDMA situation?

  • Aironet 1310 using Peap Auth and AES encryption??

    I have 2 1310 wireless briges in a point to point configuration with the root bridge acting as my ACS server..
    I am currently running Leap Authentication and with Wep encryption but would like to upgrade this to use Peap and AES if possible??
    I'm wondering if anyone has upgraded their solution to this type of encryption?
    thanks

    What IOS version are you running ? 12.4(25d)JA is the last supported IOS version for this product. So you should go with that image.
    If you are using AP as AAA server, then I think only EAP-FAST, LEAP & MAC authentication is supported. Not anything else.
    Here is WGB (workgroup bridge) configuration with EAP-FAST & you can get an idea how to configure EAP-FAST if you choose to. (In your case you have to configure root bridge & non-root bridge in two respective AP)

  • IPad 3 with iOS 6 fails to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES - any solutions available?

    Hello *,
    after upgrading my iPad 3 to iOS 6 it constantly fails to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES - hidden or broadcasted SSID - at home and at work because the device does not accept the WPA2 password. This is also the case for my iPhone 4S but both devices did work with WiFi (WPA2 / AES) perfectly with previously installed iOS 5.1.1.
    I tried to downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 but it seems to be no longer possible to downgrade for both iPad 3 and iPhone 4S as the certification and signage window for iOS 5.1.1 maybe has been closed by Apple.
    Does anyone know about a possible solution to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES with iPad 3 / iPhone 4S and iOS 6 upgrade?
    Thank you very much for any help and advise.
    Best regards from Germany

    iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
    Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Java 1.4 and AES Algorithm PLEASE HELP!!

    I hope this question has not already been asked. I have spent a long time searching the archives and documentation.
    I am attempting to migrate from jsdk1.3 to jsdk1.4 but have come up against the following problem.
    I need to create keys and encrypt files and was doing it by using the following:
    import java.security.*;
    import cryptix.provider.key.RawKeyGenerator;
    import xjava.security.KeyGenerator;
    And in my code am using:
    SecureRandom rnd = new SecureRandom();
    rnd.nextInt();
    RawKeyGenerator kg = (RawKeyGenerator)KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES","Cryptix");
    kg.initialize(rnd, 32);
    key = kg.generateKey();
    But I now get the following exception.
    Unexpected exception in IJCE_SecuritySupport.registerTargets()
    Please report this as a bug to <[email protected]>, including

    I need 1.4 as I need to use the new 1.4 plug-in on the clients to unencrypt the data.
    I have not sent an email to the address mentioned above as I assume it is a migration problem.
    I also had a message saying:
    Netscape security model is no longer supported.
    Please migrate to the Java 2 security model instead.
    I cannot do this as I need the java 1.4 plug-in for something else on the client. If I compile with 1.3 and run with 1.4 there seems to be an incompatibility problem.
    I would be grateful for any advice as I need to ship this soon.
    Thanks Andrew Mercer.

    Hi!
    I was trying to run some examples from the JXTA platform with jdk_1.3 (the classic HelloWorld), and got a very similar exception. The problem is I'm quite a newbie with JXTA and have no idea whatsoever about security in java, so I don't know what to do about it. I got the same messages about migrate the security model and report the whole thing as a bug, and I actually tried to send the message, but the address doesn't exist, so I'm stuck. If you've come across a solution or someone who might help, I would really like to know it! I copy below the text for the exception, in case it's helpfull to you somehow.

    You could try it and see if it works. The files look like drop-in replacements for what comes distributed with JRockit - but you still need to verify it with a test.

  • Reset Linksys E2000 router and now my HP-6310 is Offline.

    I recently reset my wireless Linksys E2000 router...changed network SSID name and WPA security key and now no one on my home network can print to the HP-6310. I am running Windows 7 and when I go to Devices and Printers, &  double-click on HP Officejet 6300 Series, it shows the printer is "offline". My printer is configured as a network printer and is connected to my router via Ethernet cable. How do I get it back online and printing again?
    Would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Delete all instances of the printer in Devices & Printers.  Re-add it with this method:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
    If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
    Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • EAP and AES CCM on 1310 AP/Bridges

    I have a pair of Cisco 1310 AP/Bridges. I am attempting to use them only in bridge mode. I can get them configured using open/wep/wpa shared keys, but when I attempt to configure them using AES CCM and Network EAP I can not get them to talk to each other. The Root Bridge which is setup as the Radius with a dedicated user for the Non-Root gives the error of "NAS shared key mismatch with XX.XX.XX.XX" and the Non-Root Bridge gives the error Interface Dot11Radio0, cannot associate EAP authenticating" I have checked the Radius shared key on the Root and also ensured that the username and password on the non-root match. I can't find much on this on the interwebz. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Ben,
         can you post the configs of the root and non-root bridges?
    the key mismatch error means the key you entered in the local-radius config, and the ip radius-server lines do not match.  When you enter these you want to use 'key 0' not 'key 7'.  the AP will encrypt the key after you enter it.

  • E2000 problems and questions

    I am using the Linksys E2000 for a couple of months now and I have had nothing but trouble since the beginning.
    The wireless connection is bad while the distance between the router and my laptop is MAX 10 meters with 2 REALLY thin walls in between (each wall is like 5 cm's each)
    The speed is horrible I am constantly lagging/freezing with video conversations on msn for example.
    I used Inssider to see which channel was the most suitable one.
    I have disabled the firewall on the router.
    I have a brand new Sony laptop which has
    -Windows 7 (up-to-date)
    -Intel WiFi Link 1000 Wireless-N Adapter with up-to-date drivers
    I upgraded from a crappy TPLINK  router and that one worked better than this seriously NO JOKE!
    I wanna contact Linksys but the thing is I bought the router from amazon.com and I live in Brazil. Will Linksys take this thing back or is there gonna be an issue like "sorry sir, in your case the warranty is only valid in US" orso?
    Another question, I have NOT upgraded the router firmware at all
    My router has version 1.0.03
    Linksys webpage has as latest version 1.0.04.
    Should I upgrade the firmware or not? Because in some cases new does NOT mean better and I have experienced this a lot with (wireless) routers.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply.
    Today I called the number and they told me they don't even sell the E2000 model in Brasil and they can't give me any information about it. They told me to call the US service of Linksys. So I have to try that now I guess. Wish me luck.

    Nope, it should not. Although the version is really old, I would try to move to 7.2.

  • E2000 SLOW AND SIGNAL VARIES

    I have a couple of Vista laptops that used to access our home network via Linksys Wireless-G Access Point and that in turn was connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 v2 EtherFast Cable/DSL 4 port Router which in itself was connected to our cable modem from TIme Warner (RoadRunner service).
    The cable modem is new and was working fine with the WAP setup.
    To "simplify" things I recently bought a Cisco Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless-N Router which i connected directly to our cable modem.
    Our web browsing is now slow, the signal strength comes and goes (from 2 bars to 5 bars, although RARELY 5 bars).  We are at most 80 feet from the router.  there is literally no interference beyond the drywall separating our laptops form the basement (the WAP and Router were also originally in the basement).
    I have already done all the things I have read about in this forum (re-installed, changed channels, no parental controls, updated firmware, no guest option, etc).
    Unless someone has a new idea I am thinking of throwing this thing out and getting something else but I am giving it one more chance through this forum.
    Thanks for any advice you can provide!

    Try to change some of the advanced wireless settings on the router like Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings.
