Echo in audo in Preview or Published project only.

I'm using Captivate 2. I've recorded audio on a bunch of
slides for a training presentation. When I listen to the adio from
inside Captivate it's fine, but when I preview the project or
publish it there is an echo. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I guess the slide must have been corrupted. We deleted the
slide, recreated it, used the same audio and now it's fine.
Strange. *srug*

  • Is there a way to play an mp4 file at the beginning of a published project only when the project is accessed from a specific site?

    Is there a way to play an mp4 file at the beginning of a published project only when the project is accessed from a specific site?
    A little background info. I use Captivate 7 and currently have over 100 projects that I maintain on a quarterly basis. I publish using the SWF format and upload the swf/htm files to a server where they are then accessed from a few locations (within our online documentation, in our software product, on two different websites). Many of the projects are linked so some will be viewed as a series and others viewed as a standalone video. Each video uses the same template and includes an intro and end slide. Now my organization wants to implement a new intro to all videos (those I publish and those from several groups across the organization). My current intros provide overview material for the specific video so the new intro, which is an animation with audio in mp4 format, would need to be placed at the start of each project. The issue is, the intro adds 9 seconds to every video and in many cases doesn’t add any value (say, if a user accesses the video from within our product or views the videos as a series). I’ve talked it over with my boss and we want to try to add the intro only to videos accessed from site X, not any other location. So now to my question. Is there a way to play an external mp4 file (intro) only when the published project is accessed from a specific site, therefore eliminating the need to update each project? Maybe there's a way to add a parameter or variable to the URL or the html code?
    Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Please let me know if you need additional information.

    AimeeLove,
    I have a solution for you.  You may have to modify the code a little bit based on how long the timeline animation is for your clock.  I based mine on 3 seconds to complete a minute hand sweep around the clock.
    Milliseconds for each point on the clock:
    12 = 0
    1 = 250
    2 = 500
    3 = 750
    4 = 1000
    5 = 1250
    6 = 1500
    7 = 1750
    8 = 2000
    9 = 2250
    10 = 2500
    11 = 2750
    In the mouseover section for 12 o' clock, put this code...
    myVar = setInterval(function(){
         var pos = sym.getPosition();
         if (pos > 0 && pos < 50){
              sym.stop(0);
              clearInterval(myVar);
    },10);
    When you point to the time, the setInterval method loops every 100th of a second and checks the current position of the timeline.  When the timeline reaches the range between 0 and 50 milliseconds (almost impossible to hit 1 specific point), the timeline will stop at 0.  Also, the clearInterval will be fired to stop the loop.
    In the mouseout section, put this...
    sym.play();
    clearInterval(myVar);
    It start the clock again, and it also clears the loop in case you mouseout before you reach the range.
    Make sure that myVar is a global variable so you can clear it from the mouseout section.
    Repeat this for each point on the clock.  To avoid potential conflicts, you may want to use my12, my1, my2, etc. instead of myVar.  I put the milliseconds at the top that you would use as the beginning of the range.  50 milliseconds should be enough to catch it.  So, for 5 o' clock, you would make your range between 1250 and 1300.
    Let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!
    Fred

  • Font issues when in preview or publishing project (Captivate 4)

    I am continuing to experience problems with fonts in my projects.
    As a standard, I am only using Verdana 11 pt and 10 pt in my slides. This standard/consistancy is quite evident when I am viewing the slides in edit view. However, when I preview or publish the project, the text from slide to slide is not consistant.
    It appears as through some slides display Vendana slightly squished... it is clearly Vendana just reduced in height. I have tried various options, such as setting the quality mode and so far,nothing has helped.
    Please see the attachment, which should better illustrate what I am describing. Each of the five 100% cropped screen captures are from separate slides and I have combined them into one jpg.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Shawn
    Sorry I didn't see this before you went to the trouble of deleting the dat file. I would have speculated this would have had no difference whatsoever.
    It's common to see folks report issues with Transparent captions. Normally the report is that the captions are "blurry" or "fuzzy". Usually it's because of anti-aliasing. There are ways past it.
    Fellow Adobe Community Expert Paul Dewhurst initially discovered that if you simply highlight one blank character using the color #C0C0C0 the caption would render without anti-aliasing.
    Later we discovered that if the caption had a bullet point anywhere in the text, it would render without anti-aliasing. That seems simpler to me than using the highlight. What you do is just add a few blank lines, apply the bullet to the last line, then size the caption so you don't see the bullet. (assuming, of course, that you had no bullets elsewhere. In that case it would be unnecessary to do this)
    The Captivate developers added in an option where you may enable/disable anti-aliasing globally. This is done via Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality.
    Hopefully something there was helpful... Rick

  • Audio Recording: Different Volume in Slide Preview vs Published Project. Thoughts?

    I use Captivate 6 and use a  external NADY USB microphone to record my narration.
    I record  audio for each slide separately using Captivate's "Record Audio to Slide" function.
    When I preview the slide in Captivate, the sound level is fine. Meaning I can hear the audio when the volume on my speakers are at the halfway point.
    But when I publish the video, and watch it on my computer, or on YouTube, I have to put the volume all the way up in order to hear the narration.
    Any thougths on what I may be doing wrong?
    Is my system too old or not powerful enough to support publishing audio/video?
    I understand that I may have to play with the sound levels to get the right sound to begin with. However, I don't understand why audio preview (both in slide preview and in "edit audio" player) is at one volume level, and publish is another volume level.
    Captivate Settings:
    My audio settings are set to Near CD Bitrate (96k)
    I calibrate the microphone each time I use Captivate.
    I publish to MP4 Video using the YouTube XGA present
    All files reside on my C: drive. I do not use the network to store, run or backup files.
    My system is:
    Windows 7
    Processor: Intel Core 2 CPU 4300 @ 180GHz
    4 GB Ram
    64 Bit OS
    Sound: SoundMAX integrated Digital HD Audio
    Microphone: NADY USB Microphone
    Drivers for Microphone and Sound card are up to date

    Hi Vikas.
    I tested recording audio  with one slide. The published version did not appear softer when recording just one slide.
    I then created a new project.
    I got the same softer audio when publishing.
    I also had 4 slides which cut of the first second of audio. (I made sure to move the audio about .25 seconds from the beginning of each slide, so there was blank space before and after the audio.)
    One slide didnt publish the audio at all.
    This project was smaller than my first.
    This project consists of 23 slides. most with audio.
    This time, I did all recoring via: Automatic demo,( no panning).
    I did not use the "video demo" function.
    What can be done to publish projects with audio successfully in Captivate 6.0.1.240?

  • Twitter Widget not appearing in preview or published project in Moodle

    Hello,
    I am running Adobe Captivate 6 on a Mac. i have MAMP installed and followed the Twitter Widget installation guide here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/captivate/cp/using/WSedb8e841cbc0b796-1c6e5ece129f9bd28c5-8000 .html
    When I preview my project in captivate or in web browser the widget does not show, neither does it when I publish the project to my local "test" moodle.
    The widget "icon" appears in the edit window.
    I think utilizing this tool in an elearning environment is an awesome concept and have been wracking my brain to figure it out.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Hi there
    WOW! I downloaded and looked at your file. After opening, I simply attempted to preview. It seemed to lock up my PC for a  really long time as it processed the file. I left it alone and after the preview finally opened, I saw what you did. So I canceled. Then began to inspect the project.
    Overall size is 720x540. Respectable.
    79 slides. Within limits.
    Hmmm, no objects on slides 1-11?
    Question slides for 12, 13, 14
    Then I look at slide 1 and about fall over! The timeline shows that this slide is timed for 3,600 seconds! That's an hour!
    I look further and see that ALL slides are timed for 3,600 seconds!
    I have no clue how that happened, but you probably simply need to adjust the timing to something far more reasonable on each slide. Personally, I've never had a need to time a slide for longer than maybe, MAYBE ten seconds.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Why does image animation not display in project preview or published?

    Most of my slides involve 4 images. I've staggered their appearance at .3, .5, .7 and .9 seconds. All works well when I preview the individual slide. But previewing the project, or publishing it, results in them all appearing simultaneously at .0 seconds. How do I correct this?
    Thanks,
    bberg1

    Thanks for your reply. I checked the timelines and they look correct. Of course, I can see the timelines only in the preview of the individual slides, when the animation works fine. Capturing the slide preview timelines would therefore not help with the problem. Once I preview the entire project, the timelines are not accessible, and the images 4 images appear all at once at .0 seconds rather than sequentially at .3. .5 .7 and .9 as in the slide preview. What is most puzzling is that some of my projects, with the same settings as far as I can determine, work just fine in both the slide only and project preview.

  • Captivate 6 project will not preview or publish in Captivate 7

    I have a project created in Captivate 6 that will not preview or publish in Captivate 7. I can make edits to it and save in Captivate 7 though. Does anyone know what may be occurring here?

    Preview from this slide does nothing, and does not show an error message.
    When I try to publish to SWF I get this message:

  • Inserted FLV files not playing in a published project.

    The issue: Inserted FLV files display (play) when previewing a project but not in a published project.
    My setup: Windows XP and Captivate 5
    Questions:
       1) When in Filmstrip view only the movie playback bars show, not an image of the actual movie, is this correct?
       2) When I preview a project for the first time, the FLV files display (play) in Preview mode, HOWEVER, any time I preview the project after that, the movies do not play.
       3) When I publish a project, the inserted FLV files do not display (play), they only show the movie playback bars.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Oh yeah, all the files are in the same directory.

  • On preview or publish captivate 4 plays all animations

    Hello,
    I have a weird problem.  I have two slides that previously ran well on preview and publish.  First, I tried importing them into my presentationg, but captivate went crazy with them...it seemed to try to play all of my text animations at once, made weird clicking sounds, the tool bar moved to the top of the screen and the whole thing just flashed.  So, I deleted the two imported slides and the presentation went fine.  I found a posting here that suggested copying the slides instead of importing, so i tried that.  No luck.  So I rebuilt the two slides and tried  again.  No luck.  I can get the two slides to run fine when by themselves, but when I either put them into my main project or vice versa, it goes wacky.  After such attempts, I have to rebuild the slides, because they no longer work by themselves.  I have checked every setting I can think of to make sure they match in both files (I start with a template, so they SHOULD match).
    I have adequate RAM and other such things on my computer.  I run windows 7 and have updated captivate.
    Thank you anyone for your help.
    Teresa

    I had the same problem, where graphics (images) placed on a page are simply NOT WYSIWYG. That said, it turns out the internal mechanisms of MUSE do track the position of things, and so, by, for example, placing an image ON TOP OF TEXT can solve its location issue. You simply adjust based on reviewing the HTML/CSS. It's a bit hit and miss. The resultant HTML and CSS will place the image correctly, even though it looks awful onscreen. This problem seems to occur in longer length (scroll down) type pages.
    Now THAT said, another problem: MUSE does not UPLOAD ALL, but always uploads only new files. Problems on web review of a site disappear (and this of course, could involve the server used) disappear, for the most part, when you manually delete BOTH the HTML and CSS of the particular page FIRST, then MANUALLY, through a third party FTP program, upload the good HTML and CSS. This assumes you have already uploaded the required media.

  • Captivate 4 previewing and publishing issues

    I downloaded and installed Captivate 4 on my computer. I'm a
    current user of Captivate 3. I imported one of my projects into
    Captivate 4, but when I try to Preview or Publish the project
    nothing happens.
    When I published the project to HTML, it only created the
    "standard.js", "ProjectName.htm" and "ProjectName.swf". I'm
    wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue with Captivate 4
    and how I can fix it.
    BTW, I just checked, and this only happens with the project
    that was created using Captivate 3.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ricardo

     Had the same problem on coverting from cp3 to 4, getting the "Exception EConvertError in module converter.dll at 0000BBF3".
    I had 8 files to convert. 4 worked fine and 4 did not, ie got the error msg above. 1 of those that didnt work did convert after retrying the process several times. As for the others this is what i did:
    1. launch the cp3 file in cp4
    2. when asked to save as new version do so, as a new name obv
    3. cp4 will then ATTEMPT to convert the file and you will soon see the Application Error
    4. close cp4 and launch the file you created in step 2
    5. now cp4 will launch and coninue the process it ATTEMPTED in step 3, you will again be asked to convert the file. do so again. this time however it should FINISH the process for you.
    6. cuss under your breath that cp4 should have done this for you in first place and you have lost hours of work.
    7. then cuss again that cp4 doesnt have the drag and drop question type that includes option for images.
    8. but then praise cp4 that it does however have the right-click functionality.
    hope it works for you :-)
    @_toll you are a genius. I've lost 5 hours worth of work trying to resolve the same issue. One more note to add to your instructions is that I found that (step 2) the message asking you to "Save As" pops up behind the Cp4 screen. So if you are stuck in "Reading Project" mode check to see if there is a pop-up message behind.
    Uuuuuggggghhhh, Adobe why are you so hard to get along with?!?!

  • Animation does not show when previewed or published

    I have an animation that appears to be working, and shows in edit mode, but that does not appear at all when I preview or publish. It is a countdown clock I need to an activity.

    Hi there
    What version of Captivate are you using?
    If it's version 4, note that you may choose an Actionscript version to use.

  • Linking PDF files to a published project.

    I've scoured over forums for a couple days now looking for an answer to this. I have CS5, and I'm extremely new to this program. Here's what I have going on:
    I'm creating a series of courses. The first intro/welcome course, has a menu. I want each of those menu items to pull up another published project. I publish my courses as PDF. I've read that when you set a button to pull up another file/url, your flash settings my prevent this. I've gone through the steps to fix that, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. I think I'm missing a more simple step. When I publish, I receive a message that lists the files that I have "linked" and states that they may need to be exported and placed into the published folder. Now, I'm not sure how to export them, but I have copied the relevant files into the final project folder to no avail. I've also read that if you are operating on a network, that this may pose problems, but I'm not on a network. Am I missing a really basic step to linking the files before publishing? Thanks so much for any assistance.

    Thanks, I had read the "relative link" response in other forums but just couldn't get it to work. After playing with it for a while, I just got a little bit closer to the desired result. On the drop down menu next where you enter the file name, I chose "new" instead of "current" and checked "continue playing project". When I preview the project, it works great. But, when I publish, the link does not work anymore. Could anyone provide some detail to what each of those selections do in the drop down menu? They might be the key.

  • Slide background is all white after preview or publishing

    Using Captivate 4 I spent a lot of time getting my project perfect.  when I preview each slide by them self they are all fine.  However when I preview or publish a group of slides or else the entire project soem slide end up totally white, like they have no background.  Each slide plays fine by it's self.  Does anybody know how to get around this bug?

    Are you running these on a server or web server when they are blank?  If so, did you deploy the JS file that is needed to run Captivate?  You must have standard.js in that directory.
    Update your Flash player or compile to the flash player that you have.
    Could be a weird resolution of an image file on the slide.  I have seen some that don't translate well and you might want to avoid 2 or 4 color images.
    Hope this helps.

  • Audio missing in published projects

    I am using Captivate 4 on a Windows XP machine. Audio was working fine in Captivate and in all published projects until several days ago. Now it has quit working in published projects (preview in browser and published projects) although it still works to preview slides within Captivate. I have read everything I can find on the forums on these issues and have tried the following suggestions:
    1. Removing the Captivate folder from my Documents and Settings directory so that the default audio settings were restored.
    2. Downloading the audio patch update through Help>updates
    3. Installing the NSAudio.dll patch file
    None of these things has made any difference. Desperately looking for a solution now... Anyone have any ideas what else I should try?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    Whitney

    LOL, glad you got it sorted!
    I suppose it could have really been anything. Perhaps you just needed to reboot. Perhaps it was related to critters. I'd personally be surprised if that were it.
    My personal vote goes for either phase of the moon or sunspots...

  • Quiz in Preview vs Publish in Captivate 8

    When I preview a projected in Captivate 8, the quiz portion works as it should: I can answer the questions and they are calculated normally.
    When I publish, however, the project does not allow me to answer any of the questions--it moves through them, and even if i do manage to answer a question and hit submit, it doesn't record it. It looks like the slides have a default 3-second duration, and when published the slide moves on automatically instead of allowing me to read the question, answer it, and click submit.
    In between preview and publishing I am not making any changes to the setting. I get the same result viewing it uploaded to SharePoint (so others scan view and provide feedback on the project prior to uploading it to the LMS) and when I open it locally from my computer.
    I've tried looking through the forums here to find anything that's similar, but came up short. Any help or direction would be appreciated!

    I'll take a look for the pausing point.
    I unchecked Back and Clear, and the only thing I deleted was the name of the slide (multiple choice, etc). I left everything else as is. It works perfectly fine in Preview, which is what's got me confused.
    I have another module I created simultaneously, with a quiz as well, and that one also works totally fine when published and uploaded to SharePoint.
    Yesterday, I tried deleting all the quiz components and redoing it from scratch, and this time I didn't modify anything save for the font and unchecking the boxes I didn't need, and ended up with the same result. So I'm very confused as to how one module works fine and the other one does not.
    I did notice on upload this time that one of the program files didn't upload properly (project.json). The second module doesn't even HAVE that file type. Both were developed at the same time, with extremely similar components. The only differences are the audio and pictures.
