Echo on outbound calls when on Home Network Extender

Hello, I'm having serious trouble making outbound calls. Someone in my neighborhood has a network extender.  I get this little house with curvy lines above it that indicate that I'm connected to it while in the basement.  about 80% of the time I make an outbound call it will last from 2-10 seconds, before the other person's end drops, and I hear a perfect echo of my voice. It doesn't sound like an echo though, it's like myself talking back to me. It has about a 1 second delay.  This has happened on 3 different phones over the last 6 months and sometimes takes over 5 calls to finally connect and have it go through and be stable.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there a way to opt out of a network extender and make my phone only connect to towers?  It's killing me and I need to figure this out as I am about to start up a business and will be making most of my calls from the basement. Thank you!

Yeah if they white list their own numbers but you may still need a network extender to offset theirs

  • Cannot receive calls when using Edge network for data?

    Hi,
This afternoon someone was trying to reach me urgently and all her calls to my iPhone went straight into my voicemail. My phone never rang and never showed missed calls.
I spoke to Aaron at Apple, thinking there might be a problem with my phone, and he told me that when the Edge network is in use, then the phone will not ring and calls will be routed straight to voicemail.
Is this really expected behavior? I was not aware of it.
    iPhone 8GB

This has nothing to do with EDGE all other phones will notify you and pause the connection. i posted about this 2 days ago but the thread got deleted.
here is a video that proves this, the noise is from the GSM but the user is clearly on the edge network.
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=NMm2AY-_TTY
this is from Tier 2 suport at Apple.
Everyone having this issue should call 1-800-MY iPhon. Ask to speak to Tier II support, the person you get may try to help, and may need to give you a case number. You'll probably have to wait a while on hold.
I just spent an hour on the phone with Tier I & II. The tier I guy started by saying that when you use EDGE it will always go to voicemail. I told him, I was on a user forum & some people said they don't have the issue. He then tested it on his phone & experienced the direct to v-mail issue. We talked about how this was a real problem & how both of our nokia phones didn't have this issue (he actually had the E-61 also). He gave me a case number & transferred my to tier II. The tier II guy told me that this was a software issue. That a pop-up needs to be designed into the software to allow the user the option to disconnect the data connection & accept the voice call, or not. I told him that I'd read on a user forum that some users get voice calls while using EDGE. He said that if they are using you tube the call will automatically interrupt & switch out of you tube. We then tested this on my iPhone & it worked (i.e. the call interupted you tube). He said the software currently decides to disconnect data or send calls to voice mail during EDGE transmissions based on what the user is doing. Phone calls take priority over you tube & widgets (stock & weather)but safari and e-mail take priority over phone calls. He said the thought was, it would be more annoying to users to be in the middle of sending an e-mail and having mail disconnected for a phone call, than having the call go to voicemail. The ideal solution is to have a choice (like other phones allow) but right now the iPhone software does not have a pop-up designed allowing the user to accept the call or keep the data connection. (He seemed to be familiar with this on other phones while being tethered to a macbook to use their data connections & getting voice calls during downloads).
He said he was submitting this to the engineering group & said the more people that call tier II about this & submit it as an issue via online feedback, the higher priority it will get to be addressed in the first software update. So if you want to see this fixed start calling and submitting the issue http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html in as much detail as possible (specifically say that other existing phones Nokia S60s etc. have this function).
and here is a thread that is discussing this serious problem. note it is now many pages long.

  • Which method will be called, when invoking home.create() ?

    Hi,
In a Stateless session Bean, I want initialize some variables, whenever a bean is created or retrieved from the pool. So I used the ejbCreate() method to initialize the variables, but it is called only first time when I call the home.create(). If I call the home.create() method next time it doesn't call the ejbCreate().
Which method will be called, whenever I call home.create();.

    hi siva,
first of all Ejbcontainers maintain a pool of stateless sessionbeans .when you call home.create() the ejbCreate () method is definitely called and you said you are initializing some variable and may be you are trying to retrive that value after home.create() method.. when you try to retrive the value thee value may be same as you have initialized or different depending upon the no of stateless session beans in the container. you have created a bean and there is no guarantee that the same bean will be called when you invoke retrieval method..
    i hope you understood.
    cheers

  • Slow authentication when off home network

    Hi,
I use my G4 in the office, at home, and on the road. My network guys at work set me up with a "mobile account". When I log in at work, it takes less than 15 seconds after hitting the "login" button before the standard OS X screen starts assembling itself, which is great. Logins are similarly rapid when I'm somewhere without network access, like on a plane. My problem only kicks in where my Airport can detect a wireless network, e.g. at home or in the airport. When my computer can sense a network but I'm not at work, logging in takes an inordinately long time (at least five minutes).
I am not a net jock, but I know enough to suspect that this delay has something to do with an attempt to authenticate. Any suggestions on how to change my settings such that authentication is only attempted on my office network, and just use cached data elsewhere?
    Thanks,
    Chris

You probably need a local firewall to block outbound kerberos traffic (port 88 udp/tcp) when you are off your home net. See:

  • Slow program execution when on home network

Can anyone help? My Satellite Pro A60 runs on my office network and all is well but when I connect it to my home wireless network any program (and it doesn't matter which) takes about 1 minute to open, once the program is open that program will work fine and speedy. If I eject the wireless aerial all is fine and all programs open up fast. This delay occurs for ANY program that you care to open - even Solitare!!

    Hi
It will be interesting to know if this happen just at the beginning or all the time while WLAN is activated. If this happen just at the beginning it can be possible that the unit search automatically for some network folders or even printers. Because of this the opening of the different applications can take a longer time.

  • BT Netprotect Plus and Home Network.

I have just upgraded to BT Infinity and BT Netprotect Plus. My old Desktop, with LAN, and my Netbook ,wireless, both run Windows XP and previously had Mcafee Internet Security on both. Prior to the 'upgrade' the home network was fine. Now in lets call it 'Mcafee', Home Networks, My Home Network, the Desktop sees the Netbook as having an 'old' version of Mcafee although it has been uploaded three times, the latest today. This stops me in my tracks trying to get the network working again. BT Help was no help, apart from, offering to charge me to sort out something which was no problem before. Any good ideas out there?

  • Where to physically place Network Extender within house for best cellular coverage?

I have a 2 story house with all my networking equipment in my basement home office. My goal is to locate the network extender where it will offer me the broadest coverage throughout my house.  Should I place it on the main floor?  Top floor? Attic? Or just leave it in the basement?
As a comparison, I have a wi-fi repeater on my top floor which does a pretty good job of broadcasting a wi-fi signal throughout the house and well into my back yard.  Just wasn't sure whether this would be the same case with the network repeater or not.
Also, I've verified my phone is registered and using the network extender, but should I also be seeing the number of cell signal bars increase at well?  Standing 4 feet away from it, I'm able to make calls fine, but I'm still only seeing 1-2 bars on my Razr Maxx HD (4G).
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have noticed this behavior, too, with the network extender.  I live on top of a small mountain, right off a major interstate on the PA/NJ border and regularly experience my phone service connecting to a tower in either state.. When I'm connecting to a NJ tower, I typically have 4G LTE service, but when I roam onto the PA tower, I typically see 3G service. If my phone was last in 3G mode when I enter my house (and thus connect to my network extender), my phone's cellular signal shows 4-5 bars, whereas if I happened to be in 4G mode when I come in the house and connect to the network extender, it will show between 0 and 2 bars.....but regardless of how many signal bars I see, I'm still able to make crystal-clear phone calls whereas I regularly experienced dropped calls before getting the network extender.
Overall, I think it's great so far....and the extender is still sitting in my "test" location right in one corner of my basement, but it allows me to make calls all over the house and even into my yard.  The only thing I've been noticing is some difficulty in sending/receiving texts.  I had a couple separate instances this weekend where I wasn't getting replies to my texts, but as soon as i moved out of range of my network extender, I got a flood of them.

  • Network Extender - Losing Concurrent Connections to DROID?

Would having a DROID or Blackberry device that is turned on eat up one of my three concurrent Network Extender connections, even if the DROID is not calling someone, but it's data connection is active?

When using the Network Extender, it keeps a connection active on your phone, regardless if you are not receiving a call. The Network Extender uses one of your connections for staying in a ready mode to receive a call should one come in. The Network Extender will also use data for any applications or emails that you have setup on your device.  For more information about the Network Extender, please visit the link below:

  • Why Can't VZ do the Right Thing For Once and Permit Network Extender Owners to Close their Networks?

Given the fact that the Network Extender can be set for managed access or open access, clearly it can technologically be configured so that a closed network could be set up so that ONLY those users that are included in the "priority list" could access the Network Extender.
If I had to guess, Verizon, prefers to benefit from your internet connection and your investment in a network extender by bolstering their network in poor reception areas for all of their customers in the vicinity on us Network Extender owners' backs rather than to do the right thing and permit a customer who has paid for the device as well as their internet access to close the network.
I find this sleazy and hope VZW will rethink its approach to this.  We who subscribe to VZW for our cellular service pay the highest rates, on average, in the country for cell service.  We have also paid hundreds of dollars for the Network Extender, and pay for the internet that is used to facilitate the phone calls made through the network extender.
Once it a while it would be nice if VZW did the right thing for its customers and not blatantly, at least, put their corporate greed about the needs of their customers.

I called Verizon tech support, and was informed that there is an option to close the Network Extender. This would allow only numbers on the white list to connect to the extender. Is the information I received incorrect? I spoke to them just the other day. Have you tried to configure the extender recently?
My post asking for clarification is here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1002928#1002928
Thanks for any information you can provide.

We have had Verizon Wireless service since 2007. We have 6 lines on our account. Unfortunately in 2012 when I (903.647.0073) upgraded from the iPhone4s to the iPhone 5 I started having reception problems. I started having dropped calls in my home. I had to go outside to get reception without dropped calls. I was told that because of metal in my home I would have to purchase a Network Extender for $250. And we HAVE not metal in our home. AND our other lines all work fine. I felt this was ridiculous. We already pay $350+/month for service and I should NOT have to purchase additional equipment for a service that I already pay for. The manager of our local store at the time gave us at no cost a Samsung Network Extender. It worked beautifully until about a month ago. I went to our local Verizon store and was told that I would have to purchase an extender. THIS is RIDICULOUS. We have been loyal customers for over 7 years and have been very satisfied with our service. Unless this issue can be resolved without purchasing an extender we will be switching our service as our lines come up for renewal. I regret this as we have been very happy with our service. But we should NOT have to purchase anything extra for one line that will not get good reception. Again, we pay $350+/ month for a service that does not work properly, simply RIDICULOUS! Currently the "sys" light flashes red (slow) and the GPS light remains red. Please help this very frustrated customer.

Regardless with what carrier your with you might have the same issue, My recommendation would be to get a router that will help you with viewing live traffic and keep a tally of your usage and any device connected to your internet connection.  You can go with the peplink balance 20 and be able to look at your traffic by the hour, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.  Look for trends, see what computers or devices are doing what I attached a screen shot so you can see an example of mine.  You can purchase the router at 3gstore

  • Network Extender Dropping Calls when handing off to Outdoor Network

If I stand right next to my network extender, it works great.  the moment I move outside a 15 ft ring, I begin to drop calls.  i believe it is because my Blackberry is now getting a stronger signal from the outdoor network and I should be handing off to outdoor network.  Instead of the call continuing, it drops.    Also, the same thing happens when I am on a call inside my house, get into my car and drive away; I drop the call.  I have called VZW Tech support and was told to power down the unit, yadda, yadda, yadda and call back if I still have the problem. Well, I still have the problem, so I am posting this in the hope someone has seen this and it saves me the hour long support call that doesn't resolve my issue...

I have the exact same problem with a Verizon/Samsung network extender that started dropping calls after about 30 seconds into a conversation. This problem started at almost the exact same time as those reported on this forum. Verizon has not once mentioned that it may be a problem on their end and we quit using the extender almost a year ago. However, with new smart phones in the household and multiple reception problems, we need to find a solution. I think Verizon owes its customers/supporters a solution since it sold the extender devices to the consumers at substantial expense. I for one, would like to either get my money back along with the time spent trying to rectify the problem, or get a solution that will allow us to carry on conversations in our home. It is ridiculous with the amount of money spent on monthly Verizon Phone bills, that we get such poor service - simply ridiculous!

  • Outbound Calls stop working when Lync Edge server is offline

    All,
We have had an issue inside our environment after one of our virtual hosts died and took out our sole Edge server, basically users could not dial out and were getting the error "Network is busy" on the client. Internal dialling worked perfectly to our Lync
users but the users could not dial out via our Cisco CME server.
Our configuration is a Lync Enterprise Pool with 2 servers, DB cluster and a single Lync edge server, the mediation servers are installed on our enterprise pool servers as a single server and the CME is looking at the mediation servers directly and has nothing
    pointing at the edge server.
This issue affected internal users (as the external users were all kicked out due to the server being down), the strange thing was that you got errors in snooper about the server being unavailable when you dialled out, no idea why it did this. Even stranger
was that the call itself was sent to the CME as a debug SIP showed traffic being attempted between the user and the number which confused me even more as my mobile actually rang for a single ring as well.
Has anybody got any ideas as to why the Edge server would do this to internal users?
    Thanks
    James

Lync checks the bandwith policy against the Edge server. As the Edge is not responding Lync is unable to check the policy and the call fails.
For the time being you may want to remove the Edge from the topology, then Lync checks against the Front End server.
I hope you do understand, that this is not a great solution, but a drastic workaround suggestion to a hidden product defect! In hidden product defect I mean Microsoft Lync document team is cynically silent and trying to cover the tracks of this product defect.
What I would consider as a straight and honest retroactive action for the Lync document team, to add a big warning section to a) single server edge deployment page + b) the Call Admission Control caveats page on Technet:
"Warning: PRODUCT DEFECT / PRODUCT LIMITATION comes here
If you associate an edge server or pool to a FE pool, and enable Call Admission Control, your single / pool edge will become SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE for your entire enterprise telephony when doing outbound call attempts!
So if outbound calls is important in your company (hell, of course it is!) then deploy at least 2x Edge servers in the same pool before enable CAC!"
But I think that warning message is way too much to ask for, thatswhy is this 2,5 years old topic still open.

The local firewall is off out of the box.
The log on the Netscreen shows nothing out of the ordinary. Shows the connections being established then closed.
Support for the firewall is long gone.
I can try calling Apple but I do not look forward to that call just to be told the firewall is at fault and there is nothing they can do about it.
