Edge server role hardware requirements

I'm new to Exchange Server 2007 and am in the early stages of planning the installation and deployment. This server will be used in a company with approximately 25 users.
My plan is to use a one machine for Client Access, Hub transport, Mailbox, and Unified messaging.
What are the hardware requirements for the machine that will be running the Edge Server role? Are they different than the machine that will be running the other four roles?
Would 25 CALS be required for the edge server and 25 for the server running the other four roles?
Thanks

You will find all Hardware requirements here (all roles)

All clients only need one CAL for all Exchange server
I don't even think that you need a CAL for the EDGE server
You do need an Exchange Server License for every server you have

  • BusinessObjects Edge 3.1 - Hardware Requirement

    Hello Group,
I am looking to get Hardware requirement for BO Edge 3.1 server (Web, App, DS and DB).
Servers are VS and hosted in the cluster resources.
    Thanks,

You'v just quoted the minimum requirements here and I would not advise that.  For a start from the XI3.1 side, Tomcat and OS alone will need 1GB RAM, which leaves 1GB for the application.  4GB minimum in my experience.
You should really do some sizing of users, usage and report sizes - http://service.sap.com/sizing > Sizing Guidelines > Anlaytics and pick the XI3.1 zip file.  You don't have to spend hours on it but do some background.
For DS, it will totally depend on how many developers and how much throughput and response time required.  Again, anything less than 4 GB would be false economy I think.
As it's virtual you can start with 8GB for the application and test it - you can allocate more later.  More CPU will help things along - I would start with 4 vCPU's.
30GB space is not enough by any means as you have patch space, file space for FRS and possible files for DS.  I would allocate 100GB.

  • Flash Media Server VOD hardware requirements per client

Hi I was wondering what the hardware requirements are for VOD
use of FMS 3 per client.
What I want to do is to be able to calculate what kind of
machines would be required to cater an x amount of clients at the
same time. For example CPU usage per user for a 500 Kbps video is
40 MHz, memory 100MB etc. or if there is a formula. If I have that
then I can also calculate the cost per view etc.
If you have a server with a Gbps connection to a network you
could cater for 2000 users but then if the memory usage is 100MB
per user that would not be possible etc.
Any kind of relative information (even server suggestions)
    would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Installing and configuring additional Edge Server role[2007] in AD site

    Hello Guys,
We are planning to migrate our edge server to a new hardware. so my plan is to install new edge server and configure in a new hardware first and then decommisioing the old one.
Currently we have four servers deployed as below.
    Edge Server - INEDGE001
    HUB/CAS - INHUBCAS002 & INHUBCAS003
    Mailbox - INMBOX004
Kindly provide the steps for this edge server harware migration.
    ~Karthick

    Hi,
Based on my research, here are the steps about moving Edge server to a new hardware:
1.Capture all of your Edge Transport server configuration data
2.Shut down the existing Exchange 2007 server
3.Reset the computer account for the existing Exchange 2007 server
4.For drives that contained Exchange 2007 data, configure drive letters on the new server to map to or match the configuration of the old server.
    5.Setup new Exchange 2007
6.When the Setup program has completed, install the Exchange 2007 service pack that was installed on the existing server.
7.Install any Exchange 2007 post-service pack hotfixes that were installed on the existing server.
8.Copy the ImportEdgeConfig.ps1 script to the root folder of your user profile on the server that you are restoring.
9.Validate the configuration file, and create an answer file that will provide server-specific information when the file is imported
10.Open the answer file, and modify any settings that are invalid for the server.
11.Import the Edge Transport server configuration by using the ImportEdgeConfig.ps1 script.
12.Run the EdgeSync process to replicate Active Directory information to Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) and perform regularly scheduled synchronization.

  • Lync Edge Server required for Sykpe Federation

I have a very simple and quick question I hope some people can help a newbie to Lync 2013 with.
Basically we have just installed as a trial the Lync 2013 Standard edition on a server for use of IM and Persistent chat only. We are not worried about the VOIP stuff. All is working great and everything so far is installed on one server.
I have been asked by management to add the ability to add Skype contacts. So I know I have to enroll for PIC and setup a Skype external access federation which is fine.
My question is though... can I install the "Lync 2013 Edge Server" role on the same server as my Front End Lync Server? I really dont want to pay for another Windows license to have a Lync Edge Server in my DMZ.
I am looking for some advice on why I wouldnt want to do this and if I can actually do this type of setup? The end result for me would be to have all Lync installation on one server. We only have around 50 users so not massive...
    Thanks in advance everyone!

    Hi,
You need the aditional server for federation with Skype (PIC). You can't  install FE and Edge on the same server.

  • Exchange Server 2013 Edge Transport Role

    Dear,
I have a question regarding Exchange Server 2013 SP1 that, I have installed Edge Transport Server Role on separate box without Domain Joined. Obviously I installed Exchange CAS and Mailbox on Same box with
Domain Joined in Corporate LAN.. But my edge is placed on DMZ and it is ready with all configuration, Mailbox Server Synchronization is also installed with Edge. Means all required configuration are properly configured and it is verified. But I want clients
to OWA Access from Edge only. Because I want to restrict my internal network from the internet. So kindly provide me any possible ways to access OWA from Edge only ??. I have see some another methods like "Web Application Proxy instead of TMG because
    TMG is expired"..
Kindly provide me possible ways or URL so I will configure it..
    Thanks.

  • How to install and configure ms exchange server 2007 both role hub and edge transport role in one network

How to install and configure ms exchange server 2007 both role hub and edge transport role in one network

    Hi,
Edge role is design for perimeter networks, to keep security risks minimum.  So it’s not recommended to have edge role in internal network. Must have separate network or subnet for edge services.
If you are playing around it in labs, then you can put edge role within same subnet as other exchange roles and no specific requirements in that case.
    Thanks.

  • Is Distributed Transaction Coordinator services of the application role are required by SQL Server 2012 for clustering and support of SharePoint 2013.

All I want to know is if Distributed Transaction Coordinator services of the application role are required by SQL Server 2012 for clustering and support of SharePoint 2013.
I have been planning and deploying my companies first Windows Server 2012/SQL Server 2012 Always On cluster and Always On Availability Groups Multi-Subnet cluster and instances for SharePoint 2013, and I will be brutally honest, the documentation on either
the MSDN and TechNet leave alot to be desired. Continually finding links in the documentation will take me from a Windows 2012 reference to a page talking about Windows Server 2008 or R2, The differences of which there are so many when it comes to configurations,
settings, roles, services when working with SQL Server 2012. I have been confused, frustrated, screaming mad, with all the misdirection in this documentation.  The documentation takes me windows 2008 R2 which is different than 2012!
Tired and trying to pick myself up off the floor!

In general, DTC is not required for SQL 2012.  But, since you are asking specifically about SharePoint, it would be better to ask in a SharePoint forum.  They would be more likely to know those situations where FTC might be needed by SharePoint.

  • Oracle 10G in Linux server Hardware requirement

The reason is: Because a motorcycle has no doors.
And this is as a valid answer as any other to your question. You can run Oracle 10g XE on a notebook. You can run Oracle 10g Enterprise on a 64 CPU HP Superdome. You can run Oracle 10g RAC on a 60 blade servers, each with 8 dual-core CPUs and 64GB RAM.
So what is the best configuration? That depends entirely on WHAT you are planning to do using the Oracle RDBMS product. And it should be a concern that your approach is thinking that Oracle RDBMS is like Microsoft Excel and you can quickly and easily determine am optimal h/w and RAM config for it. Oracle RDBMS is not a desktop product like Excel. You do not fit h/w to it. You fit h/w to your requirements - as you would fit your choice of Oracle products to use to your requirements.
Very Urgent. We do not do "+Very Urgent+" here. This is a volunteer forum - where paid professionals are providing free opinion, advice and recommendations. That is without any warranty and guarantee. In a forum that does not provide SLAs or escalation procedures.
You want "+urgent+" support? Then pay for it and use http://support.oracle.com

  • Does clustered MSDTC require Application Server role in Windows 2008 R2?

I'm reviewing a windows 2008 R2 2-node Active/Passive cluster which has clustered MSDTC and SQL Server.   The strange thing is that Application Server role is not installed. I thought MSDTC requires Application Server role in order to be
    clustered.

    Hi Mark,
I look into this more and it seems to me the Application Server role (at least for the Distributed Transactions area) is just another way to configure Distributed Transaction Coordinator instead of using the Component Services Administrative Tool.
Also, the configuration has nothing to do with clustering.   So, MSDTC requires configuration regardless of clustering or not and the configuration can be done through Application Server role and/or Component Services Administrative Tool.
    Is my understanding correct?
    Thanks.

  • MBAM 2.5 Recovery DB Prerequisite - Required Permission - instance login server roles "processadmin"

    technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn645331.aspx
We have successfully deployed MBAM 2.5 Stand-alone topology in a lab environment.
Now we are moving to install / deploy MBAM 2.5 in a QA DB server.
    Prerequisites for the Recovery Database
    Required SQL Server permissions
     Required permissions:
SQL Server instance login server roles:
       dbcreator
       processadmin
SQL Server Reporting Services instance rights:
       Create Folders
       Publish Reports
Question: The QA team is reluctant to assign processadmin permission.
    1. Is there any document where is explains exactly WHY we need to assign "processadmin"?
    2. If we assign "processadmin" will it by any chance have any effect on other DB instance running on that SQL server?
Thank you in Advance for your help.

    1. I haven't seen any document on why it needs to be assigned processadmin permission.
    2. processadmin permission have rights to start stop and restarts the  sql instance not other instanceses.

Is it possible/supported to install the Edge Transport Server Role on the same machine that the Client Access role is installed on now that 2013 SP1 has added support back in for the Edge Transport Role?

    No.
Unless something has radically changed from before...
    EDIT
    No, nothing has changed:
"If you want to install the Exchange 2013 Mailbox or Client Access roles on a computer, see

  • Minumum hardware requirement for Siebel Document server?

what is the minimum hardware requirement for Siebel document server?

To install the Document Server, perform the following steps:
    Obtain the required hardware.
    Install the Siebel Server.
    Install third-party applications.
After installing the Siebel Server, you may have to follow some of the steps described in Configuring the Document Server. The Document Server is a component of Siebel eDocuments, which can be installed during installation of the Siebel Server. Consult with your system administrator to verify that the Document Server has been installed and configured according to the requirements listed in the following sections.
    Hardware Requirements
The Document Server is supported on the Windows 2000 platform. To maintain stability and performance, the Document Server must run on a dedicated host machine. The Siebel Server on this machine should host one instance of the Siebel eDocuments component group. No other components should be running other than required system components.
To support more users, you can run additional instances of the Siebel eDocuments component group on additional dedicated host machines.
    Installing the Siebel Server
Install the Siebel Server on the dedicated host machine of the Document Server. For more information about installing the Siebel Server, see Siebel Server Installation Guide for Microsoft Windows.
During installation, you will have the option to enable component groups. Select the Siebel eDocuments component group. Do not enable any other component groups.
This step can also be performed after installation is complete, as described in the section Enabling the Component Group.
    Installing Third-Party Applications
    You must install Microsoft Word.
    To install Microsoft Office
Log on to the server machine using the same user account that the Siebel Server NT service uses. This user account must belong to the Administrators group.
NOTE: The install must use the same account to be used by the NT Service. The installer configures COM security settings so that the installing user account will have the correct permissions to access and launch the application. If the install uses an account other than the Siebel Server NT service account, errors may occur when the Document Server tries to launch the application.
Install Microsoft Office using a Typical, or complete, installation. Verify that your version of Microsoft Office will install the Web Authoring Tools (HTML) component with the Typical installation. If it does not, you will need to use the Custom installation option, and install all of the typical components as well as the Web Authoring Tools (HTML) component.
Start the applications that will be used by the Document Server. This forces the applications to register themselves.
    Close the applications.
    Regards,
    Joseph Arul Dass
