Edit find/change (not finding all instances)

I am using Edit>Find/Change to change a brand name in a document — however, this feature is not finding ALL instances of the brand name. I am having to manually/visually edit through the entire doc. Suggestions?

You could check whether "Case sensitive" is switched on in your find/change dialog. Also check that your find format options are cleared. Click the "More Options" button if the find format options are not showing in the dialog.

Find All Instances Scripting

Hello, I was wondering if there was a way to programatically use the Find All Instances function with scripting? At the moment my work around is very slow but works.
I have a reference to a VI and I have my project open, I then want to find all the places that this VI is used. At the moment I get all VIs in Memory (Application >> All VIs in Memory), then for each VI I get all SubVIs on the block diagram (Traverse References). Then for each subVI in each VI in memory, I get the path to the VI and compare it to the path of the VI I want to find.
As one can imagine this takes too long. Especially when I can right click my VI's Icon and say Find all Instances and get all 6 instances seemingly instantly. I searched for a while and couldn't figure out if this was possible or how to do it. Thanks.
Attached is my attempt, which just counts the number of times the search VI is called.

Well that was easy, not sure why I didn't think of that. In any case I made a new VI that does what you mention and it indeed works much faster. Attached is the improved version in case someone was interested.

Find all instance of sub sequence

Hi,
I am using TestStand 3.5
I have created one sub sequence. I am calling this sub sequence at various places in my Seqence file. I found that the parameter value I am passing is wrong. I want to change it. Is there any way by which I can find out all the calling place of this sub sequence? How? (e.g. in LabVIEW we have Find all instances).

Hey LabVIEW_Vish,
The best I got for you is to hit Ctrl-F and check Limit Search to: Then you can choose All Sequences. When you do your search you'll see a list of all the places where your search word exists. Then you can double click on any element in the list and it will take you to that instance. Your search window should stay open so you can go back to it Window>>Find 'keyword" in: etc..

How can i find all instances of my device?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me I can find all the instances of an ethernet card from a C program. At the moment I use a brute force approach, checking for each physical point of attachment by opening the driver /dev/mydriver and doing a putmsg DL_ATTACH_REQ with ppa= 0,1,2,etc., and checking to see if I get a DL_OK_ACK back.
Is there any more intelligent way to find this out?

ddi_get_instance() returns the instance number of the device corresponding to dip.
The system assigns an instance number to every device. Instance numbers for devices attached to the same driver are unique. This provides a way for the system and the driver to uniquely identify one or more devices of the same type. The instance number is derived by the system from different properties for different device types in an implementation specific manner.
Once an instance number has been assigned to a device, it will remain the same even across reconfigurations and reboots. Therefore, instance numbers seen by a driver may not appear to be in consecutive order. For example, if dev-ice foo0 has been assigned an instance number of 0 and dev-ice foo1 has been assigned an instance number of 1, if
foo0 is removed, foo1 will continue to be associated with instance number 1 (even though foo1 is now the only device of its type on the system).

Find all instances in footage

Is there a way you can search for an instance of something in footage? We have footage of a photoshoot that I'm trying sync with the acutaly stills. I was hoping to figure out a quick way to place a marker on the timeline for every strobe/flash.

There's a script called "Magnum: the Edit Detector" (listed on this page) that will place a marker at every place where it detects an edit. The way that it works is that it looks for any abrupt change in the scene and places a marker there; it uses a frame-by-frame comparison to find these abrupt changes. I think that a flash might be enough to trigger the detection of such a change, if you have the sensitivity settings cranked way up. Even if Magnum doesn't work for you as-is, it gives an idea of the direction that you can go to do something similar---or even what script author you could contact.
The expression method underlying Magnum's functionality is the sampleImage method.

Find bar doesn't find all instances

Title says it all, really. When I look for text it isn't always found. See the image which is from http://www.hsqldb.org/doc/guide/databaseobjects-chapt.html#dbc_common_elements

"Edit with" does not open all selected photos in PS3

If I select several photos and then click on "Edit with" Photoshop, often only one or a few of the selected photos will actually open up in Photoshop. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

all selected photos should be opening in Photoshop as the external editor unless you're in Primary Only mode. click the Primary Only button icon that has the 1 in it, it's between the Viewer and Browser on right side

ProtectLink not registering all "Instances Blocked"

I currently have a trial version of Protectlink running on oiur RV220W wireless N network security firewall. I have set up several URL filtering categories and tested them to ensure they work (IE aution site - Ebay.ca & Ebay.com). Both of them get blocked by protectlink when it is selected in the filtering, however they do not get added to the "instances blocked" count. they also are not getting thrown into the syslog on our syslog server (Splunk). i have enabled the remote logging to the proper server because i am getting other logging information from the router, but the blocked events are not coming through. like i said the web sites ARE getting blocked in the browser, however they are not getting added in the "instances blocked" calculation OR getting sent to the syslog. Are there any other setting that i need to do so that these will get added? I would like to be able to create a report on how much this technology is actually getting used.

Both the Listeners SCAN and Local Listeners Should be in the Grid_home/network/admin not in the ORACLE HOME.
If you have created your local listener in both the servers thru grid home..

How can I find the instances of a subvi programmatically

When one subvi appears for several times in the blockdiagramm, who can I get a ID number for every instance of the subvi?
When I right-click on the subvi -> "Find all instances" then I get how often the subvi appears on the blockdiagramm but i need the information programmatically.

LabVIEW won't let you save "DAsst_mxwScript_Get SubVI Refnums.vi" for a previous version of LabVIEW since its a "toolkit vi" if you try to do this with the "Save with Options" feature. However, LabVIEW *will* let you invoke the "Save for Previous" VI server method on toolkit VIs :-)

QUESTION: How can I locate all instances of a field in mult tables

Hi all.
So im just learning Oracle and I have an interesting question.
I just learned how you can query things from multiple tables by using the tablename.fieldname in the select.
My question is this. Lets say you have, oh, 100 tables and you have referenced a field like IDNUMBER in ten of the tables.
Now I want to write a query to pull the ID number from those tables but I dont remember every table I used it in.
How can you easilly find all instances of where a field is used in multiple tables? Im hoping I explained this right.

No, I don't have a solution, just pointing out that you may not be able to depend on a fully automated solution either. It depend on how rigorous your organization is about enforcing naming standards.

How do I change the default color (gray) that 'Edit - Find' uses?

When I search for a key word in a PDF file viewed in Safari web page using Edit -> Find
It defaults to highlighting the text it finds in light gray which is very hard to see. I would like to change the highlight color to something much easier to see on the page - like red for instance.

What version of Pages & what version of OS X are you using?
A problem with an early Software Update for Snow Leopard caused a lot of problems. The problem is not whether or not your system is the current version but how it got there. You must use the combo updater, not the one from Software Update unless it specifically states it is the combo. Software Update will only offer the combo if your system is two or more versions behind.
If you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 (or '08 if that's what you're using) folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

Finder Not Showing All Files in Folder?

I have had this happen to me in Tiger before but in the past week or so I have come across two instances where Finder is not displaying all the files in a folder. On the first occurrence, I was moving files over from a samba share and for some reason Finder was not reading a few music files. Thus, those files did not get moved over, and just now I was reviewing some bank statements and one of the PDF statements I saved yesterday did not appear until I did a "killall Finder" in Terminal. Has anyone else experienced this? This seems to be a serious flaw that could bring about data loss issues.

Apple Inc. on Monday continued to pound away at its first maintenance and security update to the recently released Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system, issuing a new test build to developers that fixes the much publicized Finder data loss issue.
People familiar with the ongoing testing process for Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update say the new build, labeled Mac OS X 10.5.1 build 9B16, was accompanied by a note to developers that specifically mentions a Finder-related fix affecting files that are moved between directories.
It was widely reported earlier this month that Leopard's Finder is affected by a glaring bug in its directory-moving code, which could lead to horrendous data loss if a destination volume disappears while a move operation is in progress.
Those people familiar with pre-release builds of Mac OS X 10.5.1 also added that the software update will deliver an enhancement to Leopard that will allow Apple's Software Update and installer applications to make revisions to application files which may have been moved outside their designated "Applications" directory on Leopard volumes.
As was the case with build 9B13, which was released for private testing last Monday, Apple is reportedly asking that its developers test the latest build broadly, paying particular attention to Time Machine, Mail, iCal, Back To My Mac, Bonjour, AirPort, gaming graphics, networking and the Finder.
Mac OS X 10.5.1 is expected to be released as a free update within a few weeks' time.

The "FIND" feature in the Edit menu does not work. I can't find anything on a webpage

The "FIND" feature in the Edit menu does not work. I cannot search a page. If I am looking for the word "Doctor" and I know it is on the page. All I get after typing the first letter is that the typing box turns red.
This is not fun.

Make sure that <b>[] "Match case"</b> on the Find bar (Ctrl+F) doesn't have a check-mark.

When using Edit Find, I can only type 3 or 4 letters in the Find bar before the letters start disappearing. If I copy/paste a word into the Find bar all the letters will be there. Has anyone else had this problem?

The Find bar opens OK with Edit/Find. I start typing in a word there but it will only allow 3 letters before they disappear and my next keystroke appears. I can copy/paste a whole word or string of words into the Find bar and all the letters remain.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
