Editing aperture galleries

greetings,
i know this general topic has been discussed here, but i could not find my specific question answered in the archives.
i am trying to modify one of aperture's gallery templates in simply ways more to my liking (mostly color and font changes). i have successfully added a "return home" hyperlink to get back to my iweb homepage.
i am now trying to edit the template "art collection" and am mostly interested in making a color inverse (blackwhite, dark grey light grey). i edit the global.css and white.css files, which works for each element (headers, lines, etc) but not for the general background. where do I find this, is it in a different file altogether?
any assistance at all would be very appreciated. is there a wysiwyg editor that could open these files and make this more intuitive for me. i am clearly not an expert, but i am willing to learn.
cheers,
nbourbaki

this is the editor you seek ...

also, the background is called out in one of the two .css, look for the background-color tag ...

  • Still no Aperture Galleries in iWeb gallery insert menu.

Now that all my photos are created in Aperture it is really frustrating that they are not showing up on the iWeb "insert" menu. All of the iPhoto galleries show up and none of the Aperture galleries. Does anyone know when this may be fixed? They just updated iWeb today and still this problem exists. Apple PLEASE allow the insertion of galleries from Aperture - they're right there on the gallery page.

I've run into this myself recently, and you're right, it's very annoying. On the Aperture forum there are always posters claiming "there is absolutely no reason to keep iPhoto anymore if you use Aperture." However, there are a handful of these little quirks that negate that statement (no Front Row support, none of the matte print options iPhoto has, galleries unsupported in iWeb, etc.). I've sent Apple some feedback to let them know this is an oversight.

    josh:
By chance are those galleries created by Aperture password protected? If to that's probably the reason. iWeb won't display any gallery in the Widget menu if they are password protected.

  • .Mac 'Personal Domain' and Aperture Galleries?

    hi all.
I have a personal domain www.gregory.hk and I've arranged with my DNS guys to set up a subdomain gallery.gregory.hk with the CNAME pointing to web.mac.com
I'm getting two impressions from searches I've done on Apple:
    1. personal domains only apply to .Web and not to Galleries.
    2. personal domains must be a 'www' subdomain; i.e., the subdomain must be www[.mySub].myDomain.hk
    So, the questions:
has anyone created galleries with Aperture and sent them to their personal domain?
has anyone been able to use a personal domain that doesn't include the www sub? after all, all that really matters is that requests to web.mac.com are via Port 80... right?
    cheers,
    Gregory

    great answer. thank you.
although the .Mac galleries have a slick interface (and Aperture only uploads new/edited photos), I have a few problems with the .Mac galleries:
the url shows your mac.com user name! I like to keep my @mac.com address secret so that's a big problem.
    no comments?
very limited space (and not customisable) for album descriptions.
no captions? (or am I blind and miss it?)
I want to have a slick gallery that can be configured/populated from Aperture, and preferably be styled/coded to match my MT4 blog (I'm working on a new version of my blog at this time...).
mac.com was a consideration because my .Mac subscription includes the storage/bandwidth and it's just sitting there not getting used.
SmugMug Photo is another consideration but I'm a little concerned about the work needed to (a) simplify the interface and (b) match it up with my blog design. (I don't like cluttered album designs. here's one of my own hand-designed albums for reference.)
for the record, I'm handy with xhtml and css.
suggestions, input and opinions would be welcomed.
    sincerely,
    Gregory

  • Problem with editing Aperture photos with Photoshop Elements 10

When I try to edit with Photoshop Elements 10, Aperture makes a tiff file, starts Photoshop Elements 10 and get to a screen where I have a choice between "editing" or "managing" files.  I select editing but when i finally get the editing screen there is no photo to edit.  Process worked fine in Elements 9 and Aperture 3.1. Anybody been able to roundtrip with Aperture 3.2.1 and Photoshop Elements 10?

(Aperture 3 and PSE 10; Lion; using Referenced files in Aperture)
I tried Barbara's recommended method and PSE now opens with the image displayed and accepts edits.  However, when I save the adjusted image, what I get in Aperture is a TIFF file of that name but with no edits displayed.
When I go to the directory in which the referenced files are located, the adjusted file exists and I can view it.
So, (at least as I have things configured), when accessing PSE from Aperture I am able to make adjustments and save the adjusted file, but the adjusted file does not display in Aperture.
Is anyone having success with Barbara's method using referenced files?
I hope it is not necessary to do a separate import to get the adjusted file to display in Aperture - which would make PSE totally impractical for use.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • IWeb and Aperture Galleries

I am wanting to use Aperture to create all my Web Photo Galleries. I currently have a fairly extensive iWeb site. Is there a way to export the Aperture gallery to iWeb? It would make sense right? What is the best way to intergrate the Web Gallery feature in Aperture with a pre-existing iWeb site?

I just finished putting a 38 page site together in iWeb. Most of it was a set of photos from a trip to the Amazon, Machu Picchu, and the Galapagos (http://web.mac.com/donoshea). All the the images on that site were imported into Aperture, adjusted and cropped there, and then exported to iWeb. The export method, however, was simply to drag the previews in the Aperture window, into the appropriate photo album window in iWeb.
I found while using this process, there are few precautions that should be taken. First, be sure that the preview size (bottom section of Preferences for Aperture) are large enough to display well on most monitors. I use "Fit within 1280 x 1280*). Second, update the previews and force a "Generate Previews" if any of the images were modified by an external editor, such as Photoshop.
So I built the site as I adjusted the image in Aperture. I tried the Aperture web galleries and found them too stolid for a personal and family web page.
One other advantage to using Aperture as a prep for iWeb is that after rating the images I thought I wanted on the web site, I grouped the logically or chronologically for display on the web pages, then stacked them for tidiness. If the stack was greater than 8 for a two-page spread, I either cut the number of images (just drop the rating below the selected one) or redistributed the images between stacks to tell the story.
I hope this may be of use to someone,

  • Cannot edit Aperture 3 photo in Photoshop elements 10

When I want to edit a photo in Aperture 3 through Photoshop Elements 10, nothing happens.  The photo does not show up.  It used to work before.

That it never worked right is important to know  .
Reset the external editor selection in Aperture following the instructions at the link I posted above.
You should be able to right-click an Image, select "Edit with NamedEditor", edit the copy of your Image that Aperture creates and sends to the external editor, close your file in the editor (do not "Save As"), and end up back in Aperture with your original Image next to your selected duplicated-and-edited Image.
    Do you?

  • Adding Editable Web Galleries

I would like to add a web gallery to my website but Bridge CS4 does not allow the editability i would like. ie I would like to add a navigation menu and change fonts and add text so that the web gallery html syncs with the rest of my site.
Any idea if this is possible? Can i make one in Fireworks?
Also is it possible to create a web gallery as a content item that i can add to an already existing html, like you can insert an FLV file?
    Cheers.

Neither the Bridge nor the Fireworks galleries are very compelling solutions, both are a bit of a mess.  Fortunately there are much better solutions.  For really easy commercial solutions you could turn to http://projectseven.com/  There solutions are the most point and click way to go. If you are more adventurous and don't mind a little bit of a learning curve you should definitely look at all the outstanding image gallery solution using jQuery ( and Ajax platform)  Most are open source and some are really amazing!
Just do a Google search on: jQuery image gallery

  • Can I Transfer EDITABLE Aperture Pics Between Computers?

I have Aperture 3 on my desktop and laptop.
I do 99.99999% of my editing on my desktop. However, I had some random, individual pics that I ended up making some significan changes to on my laptop… and now I'd LOVE to be able to bring in these pics (not the whole library) onto my desktop computer with the Aperture-based non-destructive edits in tact. In other words NOT an export of those versions.
Is there an easy way to do this?
    tia

Yes gather up the images you want to move into an album or smart album and the do a File->Export (Smart) Album as New Library
Then copy the library over to the other system and import it File->Import Library/Project

  • No (NEW) Images in Aperture galleries

Anyone have ideas on how to fix the media sharing between Aperture and iWeb?
Since installing the Aperture 3 trial, I cannot see any new images in the iweb media browser - only images that were imported prior to installing the trial.
Now that I've gone back to my old Aperture 2 (will not purchase the upgrade) I still cannot see any "new" images - again, I can still only see and access images that were originally imported prior to installing the A3 trial.
Have installed all updates and repaired permissions.
    Thanks for the help.

Does Aperture 2 have a "Repair Database" when you launch it while holding down alt&command - that solves a lot of problems in version 3.

  • Aperture web galleries

    Ok, an Aperture update.
It still appears that published web galleries do not show up in the Iweb insert menu.
If a gallery created in Iphoto or Aperture is viewed all galleries created by both appear in the gallery area on the web.
Only guessing this is still an aperture problem of some sort.
    Frustrating!
Posted in the Aperture forum also.
    Anyone having any luck?
    thanks

Not really, I have that enabled and it works fine.
Seems odd. Aperture galleries get published to the same area of the idisk as Iphoto galleries. Iweb sees the Iphoto galleries, but not the aperture ones.
I can only assume there is some difference in what is actually published.
Hoping to hear from Apple, but no luck as of yet.
I'm under the impression Iweb should see them.
    Thanks again

  • Image Bands/Corruption in Photoshop CS5 When Editing from Aperture

I'm having some problems when editing Aperture images in Photoshop. When I choose an image I want to edit, it opens in PS CS5 with bands of corruption in the image. Now, I hate to use the term corruption, because when I zoom the image to 100%, the bands disappear, so the image isn't truly corrupted. You can see what's going on with the images here: http://gallery.me.com/drewje#100004
I'm using Aperture 3.1.1 with RAW image formats and using an Aperture-managed library, not referenced. I've tried opening in Photoshop with both TIFF and PSD 16-bit formats with identical results. I'm using the high performance energy saver setting, to enable my NVIDIA GeForce 9600m video card in my first gen unibody MacBook Pro. I'm using version 12.0.2 of Photoshop CS5.
I'm getting no help on the Adobe boards, so was hoping someone over here had some ideas or thoughts on how to fix this. Anyone?

I'm just getting back to check on this thread now, but this does appear to fix the problem. I hate to call this "solved" because it's clearly a bug that exists, but it's nice that there's a workaround. I was just about to look at moving to Lightroom. I should be able to live with this.

  • After editing raw in external editor, where does Aperture store that image?

When I have Aperture send a raw file over to Photoshop for more editing, Aperture creates a PSD (or TIFF) and saves it to its internal library. So, since my raw images are imported into Aperture as referenced files (I want to maintain my image library on external disks) how do I get Aperture to create, and save, that PSD (or TIFF) to the folder where the original raw file is stored? I want to do this because sometimes I want to access that PSD file from within Photoshop. As far as I know, PS cannot access the PSD that resides in Aperture library.
    Antonio

Unless things are changed with Ap 2.0, the round trip file is stored in the Aperture Library. I too have complained about this exact issue. I have Ap 2.0 but have not bother to try it out.
My workaround is to export tiff/jpeg from Ap to the folder that has the referenced master, then open and edit the file using PS (or whatever else) and save there. Go back into Ap and import the edited image in the same location as the original referenced master version in aperture (project/album) and stack.
Not great but it works. Each round trip from Ap to external editor using psd or tiff adds 40~70mb of file size into the Ap library so it can balloon rather quickly, if you edit using PS often.

  • IPhoto -- edited via aperture

    Hi,
I am working with iPhoto and aperture, and I set up iPhoto to edit a photo (from preferences)using Aperture. I open a photo that I have imported to iPhoto, select edit, Aperture opens, and a different photo that I imported to Aperture opens. So,
    1) Do I need to separately import my iPhoto pictures to Aperture prior to opening in Aperture?
    2) I thought that if I clicked edit on an imported iPhoto image, that Aperture woud open that specific photo up. Then, edits are saved in Apertures library as well (of those images that I edited and changed), so iPhoto would have the original image, and Aperture the modified one.
    3) What am I doing incorrectly?
    Thank you
    Greg

    Gliese
iPhoto is an excellent application, but it's a consumer level one. Comparing it and Aperture is like comparing iMovie with Final Cut. They both edit video, and that's where the similarities end. iMovie is for the home user who knows little about the professional editing environment, Final Cut requires knowledge of that environment. iPhoto and Aperture comparisons are exactly the same. You don't need to know anything about photography with iPhoto, some knowledge is required to use Aperture. I wrote on another thread a few weeks ago: If the user is confused by iPhoto's Interface, then the developers have not done their job well, if the user is confused by Aperture's, then the User is likely in the wrong place for his/her level of knowledge.
Apart from Front Row, Aperture has the same level of integration in the OS. It does all that iPhoto does and then quite a bit more. It's targeted at the Professional User not the consumer, so
Aperture is not REALLY created from the Apple Mindset of Apple elegance and simplicity
Is correct. It's "REALLY created from the Apple Mindset of Apple..." producing Pro level applications for Professional users. Professional Users generally aren't interested in Simplicity. (Just like most users of iPhoto don't think about Exif data... or "total dpi control"). So apps such Final Cut, Logic, and Aperture are not aimed at folks who want simplicity, for those folks you have iMovie, Garage Band and iPhoto.
Of course, you offer no evidence for your assertion:
it was actually brought over by recruits from iView Media Pro, along with a lot of marketing hype.
The OP is this thread is unable to use Aperture as an external editor, because, similar to iPhoto, it's not an editor. It's a post processing application and like iPhoto, is built around a database. Neither app can process the photos without importing them. The OP needs to check out an editor for the job.
    Finally, I'm curious:
I've lamented for a long time that I'd be happy to pay more for an iPhoto Pro version!
How can you lament something that you'd be happy to do?
    Regards
    TD
