Editing down an FLV?

I recorded a screencast with Acrobat Connect and wanted to do some simple edits with it in Premiere Pro. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get reasonable output size.
My original single clip is a 1920x1088 FLV, allegedly at 7.88fps. It is 17 megabytes.
I placed it into a 1440x1088 sequence (because I wanted to crop the right edge off).
I made a handful of cuts with the razor tool, deleted some sections, ripple deleted the empty space.
I also sped up one clip 143%.
(I experimented with trying to record a voiceover track, but Premiere crashed 2 or 3 times and I couldn't get the the "Enable Track for Recording" button in the Audio Mixer to work, so I gave up on that).
When I export my sequence to FLV, with On2 VP6 frame rate "same as source" bitrate VBR/One Pass/Low, I get a 59mb file.
But my original was 17mb.
What am I doing wrong?
Selecting 8fps pops up a red stopsign, "Adobe Media Encoder: Property Data Invalid!"
What am I doing wrong?
If i lock the output framerate to 8fps, I get a 44mb file.

Well of and by itself, video is NOT interactive. There is no way to make the video file be interactive. You can however embed cue point signals into the video and listen for those events (cue points) or just listen for when the video is complete.
But the fact that you listen and detect those events, still doesn't actually do anything, you still need some actionscript that says "when the event is detected, do this....".
So you'll need to do some editing of the .fla that includes the video player (which gets published as the .swf file).
If you don't have the .fla file, I don't see how you can make it work.
But since there are a lot of ways to create flv video players, why not just create a new .fla and then code in what you need?
Or perhaps try using a 3rd party video player that allows for cue points, can detect and act on the cues.
http://flowplayer.org/documentation/events/cuepoints.html
On the other hand, if you were using Flash NetStream method to play the video, it's simple to redirect at the end of the video... but you still need to edit the .fla file.
ns.onStatus = function(info) {
  if(info.code == "NetStream.Play.Stop") {
  trace("Video complete")
    ns.seek(60);
//  ns.play();
  ns.pause();
//  gotoAndStop("end");
  getURL("http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/video.html", "_blank");
Reading thru the code:
When player detects that the video has ended:
trace the message "Video complete"
then reset the playhead to 60 sec into video and (play or) pause the video.
could jump to (gotoAndStop at) another part of the main timeline (but that is commented out for now)... instead
getURL... go the the web page shown and open in a new window.
What you are asking will take a little actionscript is all, but you need the .fla.
Best wishes,

  • Can't import hourlong clip - how to edit down?

    I was going to import an hour long clip but apparently I can't import anything over 10 minutes. So, how do I edit the video into manageable segments without having to forkout for Final Cut Pro as recommended on the pop up?
    I only want a bit of shareware...
    thanks

    You should still be capable of importing a lengthy video - iMovie just has a tendency (I don't know why) to break up long shots into 10 minutes clips that are still useable. Just drag all of the segments of the clip into the timeline - it should still play continuously without hiccups - just as it would had you split a video clip at the playhead.
    If there are a great many segments, you can select them all (or a select number of them simultaneously) and bring them down into the timeline together in one shot.

  • One giant clip to be edited down

    I have a HUGE raw footage clip that has over 100 scenes in it and over 45 minutes long.  I want to be able to create individual clips for each scene.  Right now I am editing it in the source window and making in and out points for each clip.  I have only done 10 clips and I am already about to go crazy.  Is there an easier way to cut my large movie into smaller clips?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Hmmm...so you are basically going from source monitor in out points to project panel and making subclips , renaming and dragging them down to timeline ?
    What you're doing in essence is making what used to be called a " print " in film...getting the good stuff out of the whole thing...
    Then you'll use THAT stuff to make a rough or final cut...
    Maybe do this instead....make several sequences called " print1-1st-10minutes", "print2-2nd-10minutes", print3-3rd-10minutes, etc ....
    Then you'll also have a sequence called "roughcut"....( eventually you will take the best parts of the prints and put into roughcut sequence...)
    Instead of making subclips ( where you have no handles to expand the video toward head or tail....for minor adjustments later )...just drag the in out points to your "PRINT" sequences, without renaming....
    Since it's in 10 min sections it won't seem quite so retarded....tedious...etc...the timecodes can be your " filenames" in essence...no need for subclips.
    As you take the "PRINT" sequence stuff into your "roughcut" sequence raise that video clip up one level of video on the timeline of the "PRINT" timeline..so you know visually what you've USED ....dont have to scrub through the whole thing to find new stuff...easy to see what you moved into "roughcut" just by looking at the video tracks...  video 2 is used already, video 1 is not used yet...

  • FCE making me cry, lol. I edit down size of my video to fit screen and render, then it goes back

    So my video that I sized down to fit the screen then went back to large again. Every time I have to render its time consuming and I feel like it's every other minute...anyone have tips?

    Right click your Sequence icon in the Browser and select Item Properties.
    Post the detalis or a scrren shot.
    Do the same for a clip.
    We need to know what we are dealing with and this info will assist.

  • 'phantom' fields appearing several edits down the line...

    I've been transferring stuff from PAL composite video via a Canopus ADVC300: http://desktop.grassvalley.com/products/ADVC300/index.php It creates huge AVI files which I then convert to a size I want to work with.
    I've been working on something that was edited 20 years ago on a VHS suite (no seriously!) and had no probs until creating a QT movie that I want to transcode on to DVD. At this stage I've started seeing 'ghost' fields of material from the frame before and after (actually it might be only the frame before, but I'm not sure) which I've not seen before.
    What has happened?
    My workfow is way too complex to describe here, but what should I do in the future to assure it doesn't happen again?
    And what tweaks in the Premiere render settings should I try out that might fix this now?
    I'm currently rendering to NTSC D1/DV (well, something like that).
    Cheers!

    It creates huge AVI files which I then convert to a size I want to work with.
    What conversion method and what file format/CODEC are you converting to?
    I has seen "phantom" Frames and even small Clips, when MPEG-2's were edited. I would guess that it has to do with the GOP structure. In these cases, the users had little "snippets" from much earlier, that just appeared much later.
    I strongly recommend editing the Edius/Canopus DV-AVI Type II's, as you will have fewer issues. Yes, they are large, but worth the HDD real estate.
    Good luck,

  • MultiClip editing/ Down convert to multi-edit but then replace clip?

    I need to multiclip edit a 2 camera interview using one ex-3 and one sony hdv cam.
    When I select the two clips to make them a multiclip sequence, it says that I cannot because of the frame size not matching.
    Two part question.
    1) Is there a way to create a create and edit a multiclip with two different frame sizes?
    2) I had an idea of downconverting the ex3 footage so that FCP allows me to create a multiclip.
    Then after doing the editing of the invterview, "replace" the downconverted video of the ex3 with the full-res video from the ex3. Is this possible?
    Any suggestions would be much appreciated
    Thanks in advance

    Multiclips not only have to be the same frame SIZE, but exact same CODEC too. HDV and XDCAM will not work together. They should both be ProRes really...because they are different GOP formats, and converting one to the other is UGLY.
    Or downcovert both to DV, multiclip, edit. Then flatten the multiclip...media manage and recapture. But that will take some testing to see if it will work right.

  • Go To Next Edit (down) stopped working

    Premiere Pro CC, Windows 7
    I did a multicam edit of four cameras, 2hrs 16 mins, then I selected all and used the "nest" option to create a nest of the mulitcam. Here I added opening clips and audio then butted up the nest video.
    I was using Go To Next Edit to insert my default transition and all was well until I found a point I want to insert a shot slightly out of sync. I copied the short clip from another timeline then cut the nested video and inserted the clip. Now Go To Next Edit will not work. Go To Last Edit takes me to the beginning of the whole sequence.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Multitrack Editing Down to Single Songs

    I record a lot of dance competitions and recitals. We record 5 to 8 tracks of audio. A session might be 3 hours long. Each song needs to be mixed differently as the sources of music vary greatly. I’ve been cutting the tracks up and creating a new multitrack file for each song, but the problem is that whatever I do to the tracks effects the entire .wav file and the other songs. What is the best way to mix each song separately and export them out individually?

    Yeah, your system is definitely underspecc'd... this thread actually belongs over in the hardware forum, and one of the mods may move it, so don't be surprised if it gets moved.
    Most of us have found that processors in the i7-9xx line have done a very good job for us, and are pretty much the fastest things out there, definitely best bang for your buck. Also, while 8GB of memory is the minimum requirement from Adobe, 12GB+ is required to really USE the software effectively. I routinely run multicam tracks with mixed HD and 4k footage, and I'm running a relatively "slow" i7-920 with 12GB of Ram and a GTX-285 graphics card, with stuff spread across four logical disks, two of which are RAID arrays (one for OS/Programs, RAID array for projects and scratch, RAID array for data, and single drive for exports).
    I think the reason you're having trouble with the DVCPro HD codec is that, because it is compressed, it requires the CPU to "unpack" the footage, frame by frame, where uncompressed doesn't require that unpacking process.
    I'm sure one of the hardware gurus like Harm will post back with ideas on a better specc'd system, but just throwing numbers around, I'd say you should be able to build a well-powered system for under $2k. Also, don't forget that hard drives are important in this equation as well. I notice you said you were running a RAID, which is good because that probably means you've got your stuff on a different set of drives than your OS and Programs. But as you research a more powerful system, make sure to keep hard drives in mind as you go. Generally a minimum of three logical drives are recommended: one for OS/Programs, one for Project Files and Scratch disk, and one for your actual data.

  • FLV Editing in Adobe Products?

    Hi Gang,
    I am currently producing/hosting a TEQUILA reviews LIVE streaming webcast  ( http://tequilawhisperer.com ) .  I use the Flash Live Media Encoder to create my stream.  I'm wondering if "After Effects" allows native editing of the .FLV file?  If Not, does "Premiere"?
    I'm a Flash animator who is looking for an excuse to learn "AE", so I'd RATHER do my .flv video editing (mostly straight - forward linear classic fillm editing) in that program if possible.
    Thanks for any help here!

    If you record life shows, you should consider changing your workflow. To me it sounds like you need a way to do dual streams/ dual format recording, which is more or less a matter of buying some hardware (NewTek VideoToaster Live, Perception etc.). You could then keep around an uncompressed/ only mildly compressed version for editing. On a powerful enough computer it may be even possible to get something like that as a software-only solution, I'm just not familiar enough with the topic. when we do support for shows and events, we always hire expensive pro equipment and that usually "just works". Of course the otehrs are right - FLV is not particularly editing friendly. Funnily, you'd be having an easier time if you recorded your stuff as H.264. At least that can be edited natively in some programs (Vegas, Final Cut Pro)...

  • Keeping longer master video while editing from it down

    I  have edited down a series of interviews into the choicest quotes and this FCPX Project file is about 50 minutes long. I wish to keep that as a master file (for a client's files) but edit out a five-minute video for upload to YouTube. What is best practice for doing that? Do I create another Project and pull the video clips from that master file?
    Douglaseye

    Not a camera I'm familiar with but a Google search revealed this:
    Drag 'Private' folder from SDHC card to HD
    Launch FCPX
    File>Import From Camera>Open Archive (bottom left)
    Locate 'Private' folder
    Import
    (I have NOT tested it, but it's worth a try - if it doesn't work, Google 'AVCHD to FCP X' - or similar).

  • Editing iPhone video without loss of quality

    I've a stack of video clips taken from my iPhone 3GS which I want to simply stitch together and edit down a little WITHOUT loss of quality.
    All I want to do is import, crop and stitch them together, thus create a single file *with no change in image quality*. (for smaller projects, I used to do this kind of thing in older versions of QuickTime Pro.)
    What is the best procedure for this in iMovie 09? Indeed, can it be done?
    My understanding is that ANY re-compression will result in artefacts and loss in quality.
    Further info...
    I've managed to import the clips ok (making sure any options to 'optimise' anything are turned off) and edit them together in iMovie. This way, the import is fast and the images seems untouched, so I assumed no conversion has been done on the video (I think I'm wrong here?)
    (Setting the project aspect ratio to 4:3 was the other gotcha.)
    Having sorted the above out, and done some editing, I now want to export to a single file. I understand the iPhone codec is H264. However, when I export (via quicktime) and select H264, it wants to re-compress. I worry this will loose quality.
    When I export with lossless compression, of course I get a 150G file - owch. The sum total size of the originals are 2.63G
    Any suggestions?

    iMovie will re-compress. To me this is a small price to pay for having an edited movie. Personally, I would optimize, but if you keep your movies simple, you will be OK without. If you decide to apply image stabilization or speed changes, you will definitely need to optimize. Optimization resolves the highly compressed h.264 frames into full frames in Apple Intermediate Codec.
    While the quality loss you may experience is not likely to be visible to the naked eye, if that is your only criterion, then avoid iMovie and follow QuickTime Kirk's advice.
    Here is a [sample video|http://vimeo.com/7093442] that I made in a Dentist Office. You can see what the re-compression looks like. In this case, I did not optimize.
    Editing in iMovie is non-destructive, so you can try it both ways (imovie and QuickTime Pro) and see if you can tell the difference.

  • How to export flv file from Final Cut Pro?

    I'm using Final Cut Pro and try to export edited video in "Flv" format. However, there is no such choice and only "Flc" available? My friend has the same version of Final Cut Pro and there is "Flv" format to choice, why?

    I use QT conversion: file > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion >
    Then, under Format I only have "3G, AIFF, FLC, iPod, QuickTime Movie...", no "Flash video (FLV)" as my friend's computer?

  • Editing footage from DVD in FCP

    Forum,
    Here's my issue. A client has a 2 hour presentation on DVD, which they want to edit down to a 90 minute piece. This shorter piece will end up being on a looping DVD. The footage on the original DVD is 16x9 and they want to keep it that way for use on large widescreen monitors. What is the easiest way to get the footage into FCP? The clips to capture will be long, about 30 minutes, do I capture it playing from a DVD player? Do I use a "DVD Ripper"? I have no experience using that type of software.
    Help is appreciated.

    MPEG Streamclip is what you need to convert the client's DVD to an editable format. The problem is that the video on DVDs is very highly compressed. If you take it, edit it and then recompress it back to a DVD there will be a noticeable loss in quality. Talk to your client and get an uncompressed version of their video (not a DVD).

  • Why can't I edit/open my project in iMovie?

    I was editing a video (that I had already edited down to 8 minute in length) and decided to change the speed of one of my clips. After doing this, the little scrolly thing that moves as you move it across the clips (I don't know what that's called. The mouse, I guess!) didn't show up. So I quit iMovie, opened it back up again, and the project is no longer able to be edited or even opened, unless I change the name of it.
    I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it, and I really don't want to start over on editing the originally 1 hour+ long video. Can someone help?

    Hi Anup,
    I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your ZTE Open C device updates. I experienced this same issue in a ZTE Open C device in the past.
    During that time, I opened a bug to track this issue:
    * [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1036758 Bug 1036758]
    Unfortunately, ZTE creates device-specific builds, and there is not much that Mozilla can do to resolve this issue directly. You should contact the support channels for ZTE directly, so that they may investigate and suggest possible solutions for this case.
    For tracking purposes, can you please specify the version number and Build ID for your device, and where your device was purchased?
