Editing last clip in compound clips

I have a series of clips grouped together in a larger compound clip. I have chosen to delete the last clip from the series and now there is a gap of a few seconds before the end of the compound clip grouping and the next series in the storyline.  How do i go about trimming the back end of the compound clip?

You can drag the compound clip's out/end point to the left until it turns yellow, then drag it back to the right until it stops (it will turn red again), which will be at the end of the last clip in the compound clip.
Another option is to select the compound clip, press Cmd-Shift-G (Break Apart Clip Items) then Option-G (New Compound Clip).

  • Program monitor goes blank when editing certain clips

A few days ago a 2 new problems occurred.
    1.
The project I have is sett to 720, 24 fps.
    The clips I use is from 5D MK3, shot in 720, 50fps.
Some of the clips I made duplicates of, and interpreted to 24fps for a slomo effect.
The 24fps clips works fine on the timeline. But the one that still has 50fps will go black in the program monitor when I try to edit them on the timeline.
It doesnt matter what I do, ripple edit or just shorten, still gets black. If I drag the marker over tha clips it shows fine though, but when editingt hem, just black.
    2.
The second problem is regarding the very last clip in the timeline.
The last frame, orjust some visual error after the last frame, now has the right part of the program monitor screwed up. A part of the screen is black.
All this started like 2 days ago, after I upgraded my 2xSingle license to full CC. I had PS and PPro before.
    Whats going on?
    Some facts:
    - Premiere Pro CC 7.1.0 (141) - All updated
    - Win 7 64bit (all updated as of 2013-11-30)
    - 64 GB ram
    - Clips from Canon 5D MK3, 720, 50fps, IPS codec
    - No other software running, restarted several times
    - Geforce 480GTX, Asus P9X79, Intel Core i7 3820 3.6 GHz, Corsair 32GB (4x8192MB) CL10 1866Mhz
    - GeForce Drivers 331.82
    - Never had this problem before
    - Mercury Playback Engine GPU Enabled (disabled doesnt solve the problem)
    Please Advice

As I wrote, " I can drag the ends of the in/out points, BUT I cant drag the selected area in the source monitor"
Again, the source monitor was just a comparrison, to show that this wasnt a problem only with the program monitor. I posted the image since you didnt understand what I meant.
There are apparent issues with inserting theese clips on the timeline or editing them. I'm sorry if my bad english messes this up
I guess you'll have to include all the info I have written to get a grip of the situation, so I will try to clarify again for you, if you think it will help
    - The project I have is sett to 720, 24 fps.
    - The clips I use are from 5D MK3, shot in 720, 50fps.
    - Some of the clips I interpreted to 24fps for a slomo effect.
    - I have QT installed
    - All drivers updated
    - The interpreted 24fps clips works fine on the timeline.
    - But the one that still has 50fps will go black in the program monitor when I try to edit them on the timeline.
    - It doesnt matter what I do, ripple edit or just shortens/makes longer, it still gets black.
    - If I just drag the marker over the clips in the timeline it looks fine.
    - If I interpret to 1-48fps, it works fine. Only 49-50 fps screws it up
    - Some problems occur in the source monitor. I CANT drag the full grey selection with the handle in the middle I made with in/out points, as shown in the picture
    - I tried to make a new project, same problems.
    - Everything worked fine a cople of days ago
I hope this makes it easier to locate the issue.
    Thanks

Legacy FCP has Revert Project to return to the last saved version, and it has Restore Project to go back to one of the autosaved versions. The maximum number of undo's can be set in user preferences. A lot different than X.

  • Making i movie trailer on last clip that needs to be optimised help!

making i movie trailer, on last clip have alert that says clip needs to be optimized  help!

Right-click on the clip (or Control-click) and see if it offers to optimize. If so, say Yes.
You can also right-click on the clip in the Event and see if it offers to optimize. If so, say Yes.
If it does not, come back and I will give you a different way to optimize.
If you want to understand what is going on when you optimize, your camera shoots in a very compressed format. This is usually either AVCHD, h.264, or MPEG2. These are called Long GOP (group of pictures) compression techniques. See my post here for why it is good to convert to i-frames (or optimize) before editing.

    SoCal thanks for the attention,
sorry for having wrote the question directly in the subject, but first i wrote it by text edit then copied it, but in the wrong place too.....
coming to my question, timeline settings are:
as it is a commercial promo that must be projected in a multiplex cinema, the 2K format is needed.
I've heard about transcoding services, and they are very expensive.
so i'm looking if there is a way to do everything by fcp.
the project will be delivered as SD DVD for archive pourposes and as a single file for the projection or eventually transconding.

  • Audio Error : Mavericks and Motu 828x (IOAudioStream[0xffffff8028dc4c00]::clipIfNecessary() - Error: attempting to clip to a position more than one buffer ahead of last clip position)

Hello i've got audio dropouts and clock hiccups with my Motu 828x and Mavericks.
Brand new macbook pro i7 Retina 13".
console display after a hiccup :
IOAudioStream[0xffffff8028dc4c00]::clipIfNecessary() - Error: attempting to clip to a position more than one buffer ahead of last clip position
Motu tells me to downgrade to 10.8
    Any help ?

If MOTU says that its software is incompatible with Mavericks, then it is.
Macs used for sound editing are often overloaded with third-party system modifications such as drivers. If that's the case with yours, you may have to make some hard decisions about what software you really need. You might have to create multiple startup volumes with different sets of software.

  • A first step: Editing video clips before using them in a longer video?

I am an absolute beginner.  I have purchased Premiere Elements 7 and I bought the Premiere Bible and am reading that.
My question is, Premiere seems to be software designed primarily to help you make a video production by joining together video clips, sound clips, and photos.  Is there a step before this, though, namely editing the clips as they come out of your camera?
I've been using PhotoShop for years, and typically when I take a still photo I open it in PhotoShop and adjust saturation, brightness, sharpness, maybe white balance, rotate if needed, etc.
Is there another piece of software designed to help do this kind of basic editing to a single video clip?  For example, if the clip came out too dark, is there a way to brighten things up?
I'd really appreciate any answers, and if there is a book or article you could suggest about editing video clips I would appreciate the recommendation!

    Stephen,
    First, welcome to the forum.
Next, and this does depend on your camera, you Capture your video from the camera, using a Preset for your Project, that matches the material from your camera.
Now comes the "RAW conversion," though I am using that term VERY loosely. Many people will do basically a pre-edit, by Dbl-clicking the Captured Video in the Project Panel. This opens it in the Source Monitor, where one sets  the In and Out Points, basically doing a loose edit of the scenes. The Clip in the Source Monitor can then be dragged to the Timeline. Each is done this way, until they all appear, in the order that you want, on the Timeline. Note: you can drag from the Project Panel, and do this in the Timeline too. Also note: when you play the Timeline, you are now looking at the Program Monitor.
At this stage, one touches up the edits, and adds any desired Effects.
Usually last is any Audio work, like adjusting the Clip's Audio, or adding Narration, and/or Soundtrack.
Export/Share is the final step and one can choose their delivery format.
The exact workflow is a bit different than processing an image in PS, but not totally alien.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Error: "End of tape reached, last clip was not captured."

I am trying to import a clip that I have successfully captured in the past.
    *The Tape:*
    Vis.TC, Keycode, and Audio TC.
    *Batch Capture settings:*
Use logged clip settings, no handles, dv ntsc 48khz, 29.97, 24bit, 720x480 etc.
    *The Deck:*
Sony DVCAM DSR-11 deck, the same one I used for importing last time.
    *The Device Control Presets:*
Apple Firewire Basic, Time source: DV Time, 29.97, Non-Drop Frame.
I imported the telecine log and selected the clip I wanted to capture. I hit batch capture. Click ok to the batch capture settings. The deck winds to the spot on the tape, capture starts, after 10-12 seconds or so I get this message...
Error: "End of tape reached, last clip was not captured."

Its clearly not the end of the tape...why is it doing this? How do I fix it? Any help is greatly appreciate.

Just to get you started, the DSR-11 firewire control protocol should be Firewire NTSC not Firewire NTSC Basic.
Also, are you sure the tape is NDF timecode?

  • How can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

how can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

You do not want to edit material from different frame rates on one timeline. You CAN do this, but it is a very bad idea - and this is why.
Once you establish the sequence frame rate - lets say it is PAL material at 25fps, any material that you drop into the sequence other than 25 fps will have to be changed to play at 25 fps. If the material you add is NTSC (29.97), FCP will DROP 5 frames per sec to bring the frame rate down to 25 fps. Which 5 get thrown away? Every 6th one. This yields a funky cadence that becomes even more complex as as there are also interlaced fields (DV/NTSC is an interlaced format). Oh, and by the way, the image sizes are different as well. DV/PAL has 576 lines of resolution and DV/NTSC has 480. FCP has to scale up the NTSC to fit the PAL frame.
You do not want FCP adjusting these things on the fly. You want to do a thoughtful (and time consuming) conversion so that you end up with all your material in one format with the best possible image from the conversion process. Compressor can do an adequate job with Frame Controls turned on. The Natress Standards Conversion FCP plugin is another way to go. A third option is to find a post house that can do the conversion for you using a hardware based process.
The good news is, once everything is in the same format, editing it will be painless and the output process very quick.
Whatever frame rate/ image size you select, I'd suggest using ProRes for the codec. It is 4:2:2 color and will withstand color correction and composting with much more grace than any variant of DV based codecs.
    Have fun.

  • How to mute ALL audio in one single go in an edited multicam clip?

    Hi there
I'm having to replace some audio in an already edited multicam clip. (there are mulitple audio parts I'm replacing by the way)
How can I mute ALL of the audio in one go, as I have about 400 cuts and am currently having to mute one by one per cut.
    thanks

Easy. Select them all. In the inspector, click the Audio tab. Under "Channel configuration", uncheck the box which would say something like "400 selected clips".

  • How to send FCP edited audio clips for processing in Soundtrack?

    Hello
How do I send just the edited audio clips from hour long files to be processed in Soundtrack from Final Cut?
I need help as I'm trying to adjust some edited audio clips in Soundtrack Pro but when I send them from FCP to Soundtrack - it opens the whole original audio file and then any adjustments I apply in Soundtrack are being processed over the whole audio file not just the short edited audio clip that I want to adjust.
Normally I don't mind as my scenes are usually short and Soundtrack analysis over the whole scenes audio is usually desirable, but this projects files have been transfered from tapes as hour long AVI files (all the tapes clips transfered into one hour long files) and every FCP edited audio clip I send is being treated as an hour long audio file in Soundtrack.
I'm sure there's a simple answer for settings but I haven't been able to find it.  Any advice appreciated.
    Barra

Thanks Javi, my sequence is an hour and half duration so what I'm trying to do is save processing time in Soundtrack by just processing adjustments on the few audio clips that need processing.
I have set Soundtrack to open referenced audio only and with 5 sec in and out handles, but it still imports the whole original audio file into Soundtrack timeline upto the selected clip, I then double click in Soundtrack on the clip in brackets, and it then selects just the audio clip I want to adjust, then Soundtrack will just process on the edited clip but when I 'render to action' it seems to apply changes to whole original audio file - taking longer than I want.... frustrating
Also the sound always sounds very different in FCP than Soundtrack even after 'rendering to action' and rendering in FCP... this is not the easy workflow I expect from such expensive software programs, I understood that they work together in a fully integrated way, what's the problem! This is wasting my precious time and preventing me from editing not helping me, this is a common problem and yet I can find no help in the user manual - I'm not impressed!

You need to give a lot more information about the media specifications and the project properties you're using in the different projects.

  • How to edit a clip in a multicam sequence (CS6)?

I am using Premiere CS6 on Mac, I have a multicam sequence set up (2 cam).
I just want to color correct cam 2 to match cam 1 and I cannot figure it out. Everything I try applies the correction to the entire sequence.
If someone can provide exact steps to apply color correction to one clip in the sequence only (it's just brightness/contract, nothing complicated), so that it's reflected in the multicam sequence I'd be grateful. Even a link to a tutorial would be good as I cannot seem to find it online (almost everything points to CC which I don't use and is totally different than CS6).
    Please help!

Ok, I finally figured it out, no thanks to Adobe's crap "Help" system, which is missing MANY steps...
    1. Right-click the Multi-Camera Source Sequence in the Project tab (NOT the multicam sequence you're editing). It's the one with the green/blue lines perfectly lined up.
    2. Choose Open in Timeline.
    3. In the Timeline, make the edits you want to the clip you want (in this case, Brightness/Contrast on clip 2)
    4. Go to Window > Multi-Camera Monitor
    5. You'll see your source clips stacked in the window, and you can fine tune from here.
    6. Click on the Multi-Camera Sequence you're editing in the Timeline, and the Monitor should update to reflect your changes.
You can toggle back and forth between these sequences in the timeline, adjusting as you need.
This was incredibly easy for me to document, I really fail to understand why the Help file couldn't be bothered. It's completely missing things like what the difference is between the source multicam sequence and the program multicam sequence, how to edit a clip in your multicam sequence, and how the multicam monitor works. Really pisspoor documentation, but at this point, I don't expect anything else from Adobe.

How do I move clips in one pane of iMove (10.0.3) into the timeline?  iMovie somehow doesn't realize I'm trying to edit the clips.

    Try this:
Select a small portion of the clip in the event (Above the timeline)
Click and hold and drag that section into the timeline, it should snap into place but if you drag it above another clip, it will not replace it but will be placed on top and the sound from the other clip will still play. Also this will allow you to use Blue/Green screen modes as well as picture in picture.
The best way is to drag it to the far right
