Editing the slide background

I have captured an online software demo. After doing so, the
company in which I captured this for has been bought. So here's the
challenge.
Instead of re-capturing the entire process, I was easily able
to simply copy the background slide, put it into photoshop, adjust
the colors (only thing that changed with the new branding) and
paste back in as a new slide background. Tedious, yes...but would
take much less time than recapturing...editing for pace and voice
over.
That worked perfectly except for the slides where there is
typing or a mouse click. It appears that Captivate also catpures
horizontal bitmaps for those actions, which show the 'old' colors.
You can't see these items on the timeline in Captivate, although I
know they exist because I have imprted into flash and seen the
elements.
Does anyone know how to disable these items or edit them so
that I can make it consistent with the color changes?
Thanks in advance.

Hi chrisbk and welcome to our community
aaasdf
For the slides where you have captured typing, have you tried
right clicking the typing layer and DE-selecting the "Show Typing"
element? Maybe that will work. Same with the mouse. Try turning it
off and see what happens.
Here is where I'm going to implore everyone reading this
thread to stop for a moment and flood Adobe with a suggestion. When
you record a movie and have elected to include recording the
typing, you are adding a typing layer to your slide. If you should
make a typo, then backspace over the typo to correct it, guess what
happens? You have no easy way to edit this out. If it's important
to not include the typo, you must re-record that slide. So here is
where you come in.
Currently, Captivate offers us
88 different types of animated text! 88! Think about all the
programming effort it takes to create all 88 of those effects. We
have text swooping in from any direction, all kinds of different
fades, fish nibbling the letters away. Wow. Amazing! Now look at
this list of 88 effects and see what is
extremely useful but woefully missing! An animation of
simple typing text. Geez, how long would it take a developer to do
that? 5 minutes? I mean, for all the coding it takes to give us
fish nibbling away at letters, it really should be a very simple
thing for the developer to do.
So, if you feel so inclined (and I really hope many of you
do) take 5 minutes of your day and submit an enhancement request
asking for a simple typing text animation. If we had this, there
would be no need to re-record slides where we made a typo. We could
actually forego recording that piece at all, then add it later via
a typing text animation.

  • How do you change the slide background colour in the keynote app?

How do you change the slide background colour in the keynote app?

You can't (not in Keynote for iOS). The background color is a function of the template selected when you create the file initially and cannot be altered. the only workaround I know of is to add a graphic file to the slide and position it behind all other content, but this would need to be repeated on any slide you wish to "recolor".

  • How to change the background of a presentation? Not the slide background...

Is it possible to change the background color in a presentation? (the color behind the slide)
I just want to changed to white instead of black, so simple, yet, so difficult..

    Welcome to the Discussions Rodrigo!
The slide background options are a bit hidden. They are at the bottom of the "Appearance" tab in the "Slide Inspector" window. For more detailed instructions see page 62 of the Keynote User Guide, which you can access from Help menu.

  • Can I fade the slide background image?

I would like to fade the background image in my slides, so the words can be read easier. How do I do that?

The easiest way to achieve this is to overlay a box to cover the background image - it can be opaque or semi-transparent, black or white. Build it in just a tiny bit ahead of your text and make sure your text 'pops' out from that background.
I frequently use a semi-transparent black box - no stroke, no shadow - adjusting the opacity to achieve the degree of 'blurring' I want for the background image. I build in the box with an 'on click' animation, usually 'dissolve' of about 0.70 seconds. I then build in my text as a 'with previous' dissolve and set the delay to half the duration of the box's build. That way nothing jars on the eye.
When I use a semi-transparent black box, I typically use white lettering, usually with a very fine shadow - 2 point offset, 1 point blur - to make it stand proud of the box behind it. You can highlight a word with bright red or golden-yellow text here and there, but keep those bright colours for special occasions, don't overdo them.
Once you've done this once, simply copy the slide, change the background image as needed and off you go, re-typing your text for each copy you make.
You can achieve this by messing around with an overlay on a newly-defined master too, but that restricts you in the transitions you can use to achieve the fading effect for the background image. This way is clean and simple. Have fun.

  • Pptx slide background stops displaying in the middle of the course

I'm working in Captivate 7 and started by creating the project from a powerpoint presentation.  I'm adding audio and highlight boxes.  That's it, no branching, no advanced actions.  The project is only 16 slides long, then on slide 8, for no apparent reason, the slide background disappears when I preview the slide, making it impossible to add highlight boxes to the background.  The slide background also does not display if I preview the next 5 slides.
    Any ideas?
The setting for this slide are not different from previous slides.  I've attempted to update the presentation, but that has not worked.

    Hi ,
Can you please share you pptx or cptx file with us to investigate the issue.
You can share your file through mail([email protected]). or dropbox.

  • Issues with slide background. Help!

Okay I am updating a lesson on how to do a function in a program that the company i worked for developed. They changed some facets of the interface and this required me to update the background and some of the images in the software simulation. To try and expedite the process I tried to copy in screen shots of the backgrounds from the new simulation to the old lesson so that I wouldn't have to mess with the other objects in the lesson (narration, highlight boxes, captions, etc.) and now I have a problem.
The new backgrounds seem to behave perfectly normal except for during playthrough. At the very end of the slide parts of the old background come back up on screen even though they no longer exist in the library or presentation at all. I did merge the new screen shots in to the slide background so I know that isn't the issue.
I can't show very much of the background (privacy issues) but this is what it's supposed to look like and what it does look like until the very end.
Here is what it looks like when it "screws up". I think it might have something to do with some kind of recorded animation since the only parts of the old background that come back are parts of the background that the user had to interact with during the original lesson.

    Hello,
Not easy to reply before having a good idea of the issues. Perhaps some suggestions:
about the changed background: do you have access to image edting software (such as Photoshop)? If yes, did you try the option to Edit the Background instead of copy a new background?
was it a training simulation, am asking this because you talk about interaction? Then you should see extra objects on the Timeline on top of the background. Do you have them? If yes can you check the timing, the transition of these objects?
about the 'typing objects', if that is what you pointing at; you cannot delete them, but you can replace them with a Text animation (right-click on the typing object in the Timeline). This animation can be changed and can also be deleted, perhaps to replace it by a Text Entry Box (where the user has to enter the text).
Hope this makes sense and perhaps could give you some extra ideas?

  • Slide transition animation and image in the slide master

    Hi,
I placed an image in one of the slide masters, because I want that image static in the slide background. But when I add a transition to the slides made with that master, the image I placed is animated too. Should I do something else in the slide master so the image I placed is not affected by the slide transition?
Macbook Pro Retina with OS X Yosemite and Keynote 6.5
    Regards.

There is no such thing as an object transition, objects are animated using Builds or Actions:   Inspector > Animate
I'm referring to "Object Effects" in the Transitions pull down (Object Push, Object Revolve, Object Flip, etc). So yes, technically there is an Object (transition) effect where objects transition between slides.
Backgrounds do not animate when using Builds or Actions.
True. However, if you use the last version of Keynote (before 6.5 and the Yosemite update) and place an image on the master slide it will not animate when applying many of the Object Effects.
When an action or or Build is applied to an objet, the slide or the background does not animate, only the object animates.
Same point as I made above.
No EnzoFT said,  "when I add a transition to the slides made with that master, the image I placed is animated too."
EnzoFT was using a slide transition therefore any object on a slide will be included in the effect.
If you try what I said above in the previous version of Keynote, it will not animate. However, I found out how to make an image on the master slide NOT animate in Keynote 6.5 (I made a comment earlier in the thread about this). Open the master slide, select the Slide Layout, change the background to Image Fill, and the image won’t animate from one slide to the next when you apply an Object Effects transition to a slide.
That is a very narrow minded personal opinion.
Selecting a transition, Build or Action should be based on how it enhances the presentation and what you want to animate; the slide, the object or both.
Narrow minded personal opinion?!? Do you really need to go there? I was simply making an observation.
    Use Builds or Actions.
There has been no change;  Transitions affect the whole slide, Builds and Actions affect objects on a slide.
If you try what I mentioned above there has been a change. Thanks for offering advice, but doing a little research in the future before replying to issues will help with providing more accurate information.

  • Editing the sidebar

hi, i´m new to Dreamweaver CS5 and i´ve got a question. Sorry if this question is allready answerd in any thread but i dont know in which categorie i´ve got to search for it. so here is my problem: i created a webside and i want to edit the sidebar background but only on a single side but if created the page with templates an so its alwas changed on every side  so how could i solve this problem ? thanks a lot !

Embed a short stylesheet in the editable region in the head of that particular child page.  Make this stylesheet change the background image of the sidebar.
This is the simplest possible solution but may or may not work depending on the code you have used on the page.  To say more, we'd need to have a link to the live page.

  • Problem: Image fill creates white border that obscures slide background

    Dear group,
I'm writing on behalf of someone who has a presentation to make soon and who is working in haste. When he uses the "image fill" option on the slide inspector, there's a white border that seems to obstruct the rest of the slide background. Do you have any suggestions for working around this?
    Many thanks!

He could simply paste the image directly onto the slide (or slide master) rather than using an image fill.

  • Varying the Slide Transition Time Interval in Slide Show with Music

I have this old iPhoto 4.0.3 version in my PowerBook. Is it possible to create a slide show that's put to music? More importantly, can the transition from slide to slide be varied (e.g., one slide changes after 4 seconds; the next slide changes after 10 seconds; the slide after changes after 6 seconds, etc.) or am I limited to one consistent slide transition interval? Do I need to upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto? Or do I need to use an entirely different application to do varying slide transition time intervals?
    Thank you.
    Michael

No, you can't vary the time interval in the same slide show.
There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD, but they all have one thing in common: they reduce the quality of the photos to that of a movie still frame and sometimes limit the number of photos you can use.
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

  • Editing the background slides themselves

I have some movies that I made in 2006 and the dates are
showing on the movies - its a product demo and I dont want to date
    my product !
I'd like to edit out the dates so they don't show - I don't
want to re-record the whole movie again - is it possible to go into
each slide and just remove the offending part on each slide using a
bitmap editor or something like that ?
    Hope this was clear !
    Thanks
    Mike

    Welcome to our community, Mike
    It's easier than you think!
Edit one of the slides and add a Highlight Box object.
Configure the Frame to be 0 pixels and the Fill Color to match your
background. Configure the Fill Transparency to 0%. Now size and
position the Highlight Box so it covers your unwanted date. Copy it
to the clipboard and paste it on other slides where you also want
to do the same. Now simply visit each slide, right-click the
Highlight Box and choose Merge Into Background. This will have the
same effect of having opened each of the background images in
something like Photoshop and blotting it out!
    Cheers... Rick

  • I want to edit the text within Captivate after importing slides from PowerPoint

    Hi,
Background: I import slides from a .pptx file. Once the slides are created inside of Captivate, I want to edit the text on the slide, but I can't; it's all become part of the background. So, I am left with two options: 1) open the .pptx file, edit the text, and then re-import the slide 2) Manually create everything on the slide inside of Captivate. This is so labor-intensive. I was hoping Captivate 7 would address this, but what seemed could possible address it - High Fidelity - isn't available for mac. I'm sure others have this problem too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you'd better look at Adobe Presenter if you need only to convert a PPT to an eLearning course?
Captivate is much more powerful, but its principal goal is not to convert PPT's. Each PPT-slide is converted into a movie slide so that all animations will be transferred properly. Personally I never create presentations in PPT but always directly in CP. You could import only the backgrounds, and create the other objects in CP. Images can be imported into the library, audio as well.

  • Can you edit the color of the bottom play bar on a slide once you assign the cpCmndShowPlaybar to 0

Can you edit the color of the bottom play bar  on a slide once you assign the cpCmndShowPlaybar to 0. When I assign the slide this action it shows a grey shape at the bottom hiding the playbar controls, but I would like to make that color white to blend in with the white background on my webpage. How do you change the color?

It is not possible to change the border color by an (advanced) action, sorry. If you do not mind, you could choose the white color for the bottom border from the start. When the playbar is showing, provided it it stretched, it will cover up this bottom border.

  • I have a keynote presentation that includes a significant amount of video.  When I edit the keynote slides (not the video slides) how can I save the changes without re-saving the videos (because that takes a VERY long time)?

I have a keynote presentation that includes a significant amount of video.  When I edit the keynote slides (not the video slides) how can I save the changes without re-saving the videos (because that takes a VERY long time)?  I edit the presentation depending on the audience to which I am presenting.

If you add a new  slide with just a text box (therefore a very small amount of data),  to an existing presentation then save,  Keynote will only save the new content to the file,  it wont save  pre-existing content as its already included in the file.
The time  taken to "save" will be very much shorter than a "save as" when all of the existing content is saved again.

  • IMovie: When i put in music for the background of my clips, my clips go quieter, but then when i take the music out it goes loud. I tried to edit the music to try and make it go quiet like background music would, but it isn't working?

In iMovie on my new MacBook Pro. I'm editing a video of mine (As i make videos for YouTube), i put in the clips, then i put in background music. But when the music is there, the clips go really quiet. I'm trying to change that but it isn't working, i've edited the clips to make any other sound go quiet on the audio bar, but that hasn't worked either. I've tried to edit the music to go quiet on the audio bar, but that didn't work. Nothing is working!! It's like the music is taking over! You can barely hear the sound of the clips talking. Then after the background music has finished, if there is any clips left over, the clips go really loud!
It's geting me really annoyed, i've tried everything.
Can anybody help? Even suggestions would work!

I'd be posting in the iMovie forum for iMovie help.
