I am hearing rumors of extremely long installation times related to EHP4. Can you comment on what you are seeing in the marketplace as I was involved in an EHP1 ramp up and it was very simple.

I have installed EHP4 on various systems of various sizes and configurations on different databases (14 different systems). None of those installations were faster or quicker than EHP3 installations we did last year, if one sees the total runtime.
If one sees only the downtime, this may be true but this comes with the (very expensive) price of needing to lock the transport/development environment in a VERY early stage when phase RSDBSCPY starts. With the default non-easily changable parameters of only two copy processes that phase takes up to 30 - 40 % or more of the total runtime. This behavior makes it very difficult to plan the right point when to start. If started too early in the week the business may suffer because necessary transports can't be imported, if started too late, a weekend won't be enough to get through.
This is especially true for systems with big basis tables (e. g. AGR_HIER*) where millions of entries are to be copied more or less sequentially.
Our total runtimes (completely) are from 42 to 113 hours, depending on the system configurations (2 up to 16 physical CPUs and 8 to 64 GB RAM) and the number of customized import/batch processes. The databases used were Oracle, MaxDB and SQL Server 2008.
Our dowtimes were from 7,5 hours to ~ 16 hours. However, having the system in a locked TMS state could also be considered as "downtime" if critical transports cannot be applied any more.
Downtime reduction is a good goal - but "normal" upgrades using EU_IMPORT* phases are much more convenient to plan than a non-configurable RSDBSCPY.

HI,
I have completed the installation of ECC 6.0 EHP4 Ready SR1 version. Currently my Netweaver Stack is on 701 and all other ECC components on 600. 
We want to upgrade the SAP the EHP4 version. But the server is not accepting the generated stack file. We have correctly chosen the required technical usage and the target stack is also proper in the stack file.

WE have tried regenerating the stack files couple of times, but no hope. Should the SAP have a permanent license to proceed with the EHP4 installation.

Just to make sure, have you generated and applied "Permanent License" ?
If not, Then generate both Product License and Maintenance license key on Service Market Place and install it on newly installed server.
Then try again...

Guidelines on optimization of runtime of EHP4 installation phases

Our system is SAP ECC 6.0 SP10 without any EHP on HP-UX and Oracle.
Currently we are running EHP4 installation on our sandbox on top of EHP3. We are in preprocessing phase. I observe that a phase MAIN_SHDRUN/ACT_UPG is going on more then 5 hours upto the composing of this message. I can observe activity into the system (SM50).
I was trying to get some information and documentation on optimization of runtime of phases of the EHP4 installation. I tried Installation Guide, and notes attached to the document like SAP Note 1292069 - Add. Info. on upgrading to SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4 SR1 ABAP, but this seems to be not big help for me(or might be I oversee something provided by SAP)
Here my question is, can we have some anchor document or note for optimization of system settings and parameters which will help us to optimize the runtime of different phases of installation. If not for all then at least please suggest for this phase and other for which it is available.
Approx DB Size: 2.8 TB

MAIN_SHDRUN/ACT_UPG -- This phase is very long phase, It always takes very long time. Since your database size is 2.8 TB so it will take long time. Only thing you need to take care is no error will be there.

Also as far as optimization of upgrade is concerned it depends on a number of things:
1) How many R3trans processes you have choosen for upgrade ? If more is the number of processes then upgrade will de faster. R3trans processes you can decide on basis of your hardware.
2) You can also optimize memory parameters like in shdow instance Go to SE38 and run rsmemory report -> there you can increase memory parameters to optimize upgrade.
3) You can also change database parameters like db_cache_size etc. to increase performemnce.
4) you can also check SAP Note 1275873 - Memory bottleneck during DDIC activation during EHP import
5) To optimize performence, SAP always recommends to select Manual Selection of parameters in configuration phase in which you can set parameters according to your hardware.
6) You can also find information to improve performence of upgrade in Troubleshooting and Administration Guide. This guide you can find in <upgrade directory>/EHPI/abap/htdoc

I have planned to install ecc 6.0 sr3 windows 2008 server oracle and put ehp4 on top of it.Pls guide me how to do that.
I have read the doc where they have told to provide space for the seperate shadow instance of 100 gb.I have planned to keep to keep 400 gb of hard disk for the ecc 6.0 installation.So do i need to provide extra space(new partition) for the shadow instance?and also i have read that finally this shadow instance will be converted to real instance.So my original space would go after converting in to ehp4?
also tell me what post installation to be done after ecc 6.0 installation.Say i do all the post installation for ecc 6.0 including client creation and clinet copy with update of stack to 14.After this do i need to do ehp4?
pls guide me in this as i need to it urjently.

You have two possibilities:
- read the installation guides (http://service.sap.com/instguides) and try yourself
- get a basis consultant on your side to help you

A shadow instance will be built with parts of the tables of the source instance, the new coding from the EHP4 packages is imported and is then merged with your original instance. And yes, those 100 GB are free after that again.

Yes.

To start the installation you need an installed and configured Solution Manager system. You need that to generate the installation keys and to generate a valid XML file for the EHP4 installation.
And: This is here is a public forum, it's not meant to "teach" you. If you want some real guidance I suggest you attend some SAP classes if you have never done an installation before, especially if Oracle is involved.

In the end I ran out of patience and decided to ignore the error to get it through to the end. Later, SAP responded as follows:
"The issue depends on a deleted function and a new function with the samename within one application. With note 1263261 the problem should be
solved. Maybe you also have to install note 1301695 after it."

Usage dependency is created at Build time and installation time

Hi,
The infrastructure guys have selected the usage dependency as Build time and Installation time, while creating software components.
"Y" SWC is created as depedency for "X" software component.
In SLD(software catalog), we are able to view the Y component as dependency in X component(at both build time and installation time). In usage dependency we are able to view Y component but when we click Y component in usage dependecy we are also able to view X component. Is there any problem with this ?
There is another issue. we are able to view basis object(in IR) in Y component but not in X component. Actually as per the above configuration basis object in IR should appear in X component.
Please refer to another forum which may give you some more idea.("BPM - Message interfaces of one component are not appearing in another comp") pasted on 17 Nov,2006.
Please could you provide us the inputs.

How to include Add-On in EHP4 Installation

This is a fresh install on Unix and Oracle.
We have already installed ERP 6.0 EHP4 Ready and now preparing for EHP4 Install using EHP Installer. We have two Add-Ons CPRXRPM 400 and ECC-SE 604 that we want to include in EHP4 installation. We have already copied the .SAR files for both Add-Ons into Download Directory.
I am not able to figure out how to make Installer pick up these Add-Ons. In BIND_PATCH step and (also in screen where it displays calculated queues) I see all the patches that we downloaded from Solution Manager are listed but do not see my Add-ons. At what stage will these be included or do I need to do something to add them manually.?

Hi,
When you will download the patches from solution manager there you need to select Technical Usage corresponding to these packages then information about these technical usage will be present in stack xml file. So, ehpi installer will read about these packages from stack xml file and include them in upgrade.

Ridiculously long installation time for CS6?

I'm downloading the CS6 Master Collection through the University of Maryland software center website. I downloaded all the different parts required for installing, and now the installation time remaining says 20 hours and it's still going up. I've closed out all the other applications on my Mac. Is there anything I can do? I can't click go back or continue either.

The same thing is happening to me (downloading from UMD), and I don't think it's a corrupt file.... I've re-downloaded the Master Collection .dmg and .dmgpart files and the Web & Design Collection .dmg and .dmgpart files, and the same thing happens when installing either one. I have to force-quit the installer, do a hard reboot on my computer (it won't let me shut down while it thinks the installer is still running), and then uninstall whatever got installed and run the cleaner.
It always freezes up at about 40% of the way through the installation process, "Running package scripts..." The progress bar doesn't advance even a pixel.... I know this because I took screenshots and compared. The "Install Time Remaining" just keeps getting longer and longer, with no apparent change.

EHP4 Installation: Error in Phase PREP_INPUT/KX_CPYORG

I try to execute a EHP4 installation for SAP ECC system with EhP Installer.
The programm stopps after several repeat attempts in the the phase PREP_INPUT/KX_CPYORG.
The error I get is:

EHP4 installation error

Hi everybody.
We are running an EHP4 installation in ECC 6.0 using EHPI installer.
At pre-proccesing phase, when installation is activating abap objects we receive an error because it is not possible to connect sap gateway of service sapgw11 (11 is the number of the shadow instance)
We are looking for procceses and there is no one running for shadow intance.
On this way, we are sure that shadows instance must be started, but we are not able to start it.
When we try to do it, we receive this error:

Hi Daniela,
In order to start the shadow instance, please follow below steps
1) Shutdown the CI .
2) The used cleanipc command to clear all semaphores for both shadow instance and CI.
3) Start your CI.
4) go to your upgrade directory (<path-EHPI/abap/bin>).Use below command to start shadow instance
startsap_shd -t R3 -i <Shados instance name> -r <root directory for upgrade> -u <Shadow instance owner>
Please also check in logs if some file (e.g .sapstream file) is in used for in /tmp directory for shadow instance. If it is in use the rename it. and start.
If still phase problem then please let me know.

EHp4 installation - IS_SELECT phase error (MRSS_NW)

Hello everybody,
MRSS-NW (600) add-on shows status "undecided" in the phase IN_SELECT of EHP4 installation.
Is there any way I can skip/correct this phase? I tried to upgrade the add-on but I cannot find the installer in the SAP Portal swdc.

I am trying to install some packages with yaourt and have this question : Why the installation time is so long ? This kind of installation take many time for me and I don't know what this the reason of this problem. I am trying to install this package : https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pycrypto-git
I need it for "jrnl".

according to pycryptosite, the url should be https://github.com/dlitz/pycrypto .
Also the PKGBUILD needs updating to reflect pacman 4.1.x changes.
for now, try changing the _gitroot variable to https://github.com/dlitz/pycrypto in the PKGBUILD.

Ora-12560 at installation time....

Hello all,
My server has Windows 2008 x86 installed,
I try to install oracle 11g for 32bit.
Installation of oracle server goes smooth and nice but when this installer starts configuring DB and reach at 2% it throws an erro ORA-12560 TNS PROTOCOL ADAPTER ERROR.
I dont change any parameters it asks at installation time.
Further when I try to create database with DBCA it also shows same error at same place...
Need help to Create DB...

In oracle Documentation I found following,
TNS: lost contact
Cause: OracleServiceSID service, OracleHOME_NAMETNSListener service, or both are not running. You receive this error if you attempt to use any Oracle Database utilities, such as SQL*Plus. This error is analogous to the following Oracle7 error: ORA-09352: Windows 32-bit Two-Task driver unable to spawn new ORACLE task.
Action: Ensure that both services are started.
And very exactly both of services are not running on my server.
When I start them from windows services, they dont...
So how to start them and what should my next action.

DB2 Post installation after EHP4 Installation

Hi,
I have completed ehp4 installation in db2 9.1 fp7 database windows 2008 server.What are the post installation activities i should do?
I have read in the doc where they have given so many post installations.ie post activities before resuming production etc etc..
But i felt like deleting the old table spaces is important for which they have given the syntax(db2 clp command) also.but if i run that "0 rows selected".pls tell me what is the correct syntax for deleeting old table spaces.
and also pls let me know what other i need to do after ehp4 installation from your experience.

for deleting the table spaces,I need to know which are the old table spaces after upgrade for which there is a syntax given in the master guide.below are given in the master guide.
Deleting Substitution Tablespaces
After the enhancement package installation, some tablespaces are no longer used and you can delete them.
To determine the names of these empty substitution tablespaces of the source release enter the following db2 clp command:
db2 "select tbspace from syscat.tablespaces TS where TS.tbspace like '%E%<rel>%' and not exists ( select 1 from syscat.tables where tbspace = TS.tbspace or index_tbspace = TS.tbspace or long_tbspace = TS.tbspace )"
To delete all obsolete tablespaces that are returned by the above mentioned db2 clp command, enter the following db2 clp command at the operating system level for each tablespace listed:
