Eizo 21" FlexScan S2110W / PowerBook G4 incompatibility?

I have an unanticipated problem connecting a new Eizo 21" FlexScan S2110W to my PowerBook G4. Eizo Flashes 0/0 and the screen remains black, no matter what I do. The same display works fine with a Mac Mini, and the same PowerBook works fine with Dell DVI display! And further, another PowerBook G4 works just fine with the display, the only differences being 64MB vs. 128MB Radeon and the Radeon ROM revision (113-xxxxx-134 vs. 113-xxxxx-145). What on earth could this be? Any ideas?

Hi Ned,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I have done all the usual things, including PRAM and NVRAM zapping. I now suspect that the Radeon firmware update is the culprit - I should have stayed away from that. It seems that you can't reverse the firmware update, so I might be out of luck.
Could someone with a PowerBook and a 128MB Radeon post how their Profiler entry for Graphics/Displays looks like? This is mine:

  • MSI GeForce 210 not post in Sapphire A9RX480 mobo?!

This is a bit nuts. The MSI card is GeForce 210-MD512H:
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N210-MD512H.html#?div=Specification%22
...witch is basicaly fanless budget MSI GeForce 210 with 589/1024MHz clocks and 512MB DDR2 ram. All in all a budget card to do the work required and that it is. I never expect playing Crysis on it... maybe SoF2... lol!
However I wanted to use it in my Sapphire "Grouper" A9RX480 mobo (that is ATI chipset RX480-450 for SB) and it refuse to post. When I plug there my old good PNY GeForce 7800, then (even w/o the external power cable connected - DOS only, true) everything seems working out nicely!
Now that is a bit insane. Any suggested bios settings to make the card work? The mobo is fine, memtest passed all tests and never had a problem with it...
Yes, it is claimed to be 16x PCIEx speed... shall I try 8x? Or what should I do? The card is also tested in another computer and it is working nicely there...!

Oooops, I'm sorry. When way more powerfull and way more PSU demanding 7800 GTX works fine, then I never even mind that any other information is necessary, but whatever. Here we go:
    Board: Sapphire A9RX480 "Grouper"
Bios: oldest and even latest official version available tried, even moded version: http://ax2.old-cans.com/grouper - still same problem!
    VGA: MSI GeForce 210-MD512H ( http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N210-MD512H.html#?div=Specification )
    PSU: Enermax 620W Liberty
    CPU: Opteron 148
    MEM: Mushkin Enhanced DDR400 PC3200 (can do 2-2-2-5 :D - memtest fine)
    HDD: none
    COOLER: Zalman CNPS 9500 Led
    OC: none
    OS: none
It is just a mainboard, PSU and floppy sitting on chair near monitor (Eizo F35 Flexscan) for testing... Nothing else.
Tried 8x settings in the PCIE Bus Width, no difference :(
Some BIOS settings are really interesting - how about these?
    LTD Configuration - Enabled
Upstream LTD Bus Width - 16bit
Downstream LTD Bus Width - 16bit
    LTD Bus Frequency - Auto (1GHz, 800MHz, 600MHz, 400MHz, 200MHz)
(I know, this have more to do with the CPU memory controler that GFX card, but who knows?)
    PCIE GFX Core Payload Size - 64Bytes (32Bytes, 16Bytes)
    PCIE GPP Core Payload Size - 64Bytes (32Bytes, 16Bytes)
NB-SB Port Configuration - Default (Enhanced)
    PCI-E GFX Link Width - x16 (x12, x8, x4, x2, x1)
Assign IRQ For VGA - Enabled (Disabled)
...any suggestions? Tried 32Bytes (for the PCIE GFX Core Payload Size|PCIE GPP Core Payload Size settings), but no change. Eg. NO POST with this MSI card...
Additional info about the card: it is MSI GeForce 210-MD512H, on the PCB is near the heatsink and PCIE connector:
"V201" "VER: 1.1" and "Product of China" and near the "no trash" symbol is "D33008"
From the bottom side, there is a big letters "N1996" after a "Nike" checkmark and at the end of the PCB, some probably manufacture info:
    APCB M3 94V-0
    RU 0942 E230435
    E129N4774BB
Bought the card from friend, who replaced it with faster one. Tried with another computer, where it worked just fine (IIRC Gigabyte mainboard, but not sure about it) ...
Is there any bios fix for this card that help me out?

  • Eizo ColorEdge CG275W OR Eizo FlexScan SX2762W

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone is using above monitors, I was going to go for the Flexscan SX2762W for day to day use, using Adobe suite- Premiere, After effects, Photoshop. Not looking for colour grading etc, just looking for a good monitor. I was going to use a Samsung 32 inch TV, ISF calibrated for external output using either a Matrox MX02 LE or AJA, BlackMagic etc.
Or I was thinking of going for the CG275W for my main monitor then when funds permit move that over to use as an external monitor and buy another CG275W or an SX2762W for main use.
    Any suggestions ideas much appreciated.

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for the reply much appreciated.
As I'll be sitting 2 - 3 feet away from screen a 32" HD TV doesn't look practical.
I've decided I'll be going for the Eizo CG246, it's self calibrating and hardware calibratible. I'm going to be using this with the Matrox MX02 LE. I can calibrate it first before using Matroxs calibration procedure if it is required. I know it's expensive at £1400, but once I start colour grading I need something accurate.
If I go for the 27 inch Eizo monitors there will be black bars top bottom and to the sides, watching 1920 x 1080 content at 1:1 pixel mapping. Which is a waste of monitor as the full screen will not be getting used. Plus majority of computer monitors do not do 24Hz (24p) or 25Hz (PAL). The Eizo CG246 can handle this.
    Cheers.

  • MacBook Pro and EIZO Flexscan sx2762w

I have a MacBook Pro (early 2009, OS 10.6.8) and an EIZO Flexscan sx2762w.
Can it display the full 2560x1440, as it doesn't appear in the display options.
    Suggestions greatfully received!

I don't think any cable is manufactured under such meticulous quality control that anyone can be 100% certain of getting one that works flawlessly, but all reputable vendors guarantee what they sell and will replace it if it doesn't work. I've bought several quite satisfactory cables from Monoprice, but I'm sure there's a dud in the mix from time to time, there as elsewhere.
If you'd just like to spend more, in the questionable belief that spending more will get you a better cable, no doubt you can find more expensive ones. I can't bring myself to recommend any, because I don't believe they're likely to be any better and because Monoprice is a reputable vendor.

  • Compatibility with an Eizo Monitor

    Hello.
I just bought a Mac Pro Xeon 3.7Gh.
I am considering buying an Eizo CG277 monitor.
Is there any incompatibility between both in terms of calibration or any other aspect?
    Thank you.

The following are published methods. There is a third method I found out about messing around one day. Close your MacBook and use the remote control to wake it. This will start Front Row and that will allow your to run your movie. You only have to have power and the external monitor to do this.

  • Powerbook G4 can't connect via ethernet but connects via airport

We have a small office network connected to an Efficient Networks DSL router that's managed by our isp. The router has 4 ports and a linksys 8 port switch is connected to one of those ports. Another D-Link wireless router/switch is connected to another port.
2 i-macs connect without problem via ethernet cable. They are set to DHCP and get 192.xx private addresses. Both run 10.4.5. Another older imac running 9.2.2. also has no problems.
I recently purchased a powerbook G4 and it will not connect via ethernet to the Efficient networks router. At first it was connected to the linksys, so decided to connect it direct to the Efficient Networks router. With DHCP, it acquires a 169. internet address which is self generated (i.e. no real connection). I tried to give it a static private address (talking to the isp provider). They could see the powerbook but saw all zero's (presumable mac address). By the way the Powerbook works perfectly at home connected via ethernet cable to a D-Link router connected to a cable modem so it's not a physical problem. I even checked the ethernet cable I used in the office with another computer - no problem.
When I switch to airport in the office, the powerbook connects to the network and the internet. I get some strange warning messages showing the server's and the router's private ip addresses. I click ok, and the powerbook finds an unassigned private ip address. It's the only way it will work, but it causes problems, because I can't connect to one of the network printers. Speed also isn't great.
Can anyone give me advise how to proceed. I am no expert on this stuff so keep it as simple as possible.
    Tks

    Tim,
Thanks for your help. Here's what I've done before reading your e-mail. The D-Link DI-524 wireless router is connected to the Effiicent Neworks DSL router as you mentioned. One ethernet port of the EFF.Net. router is connected to the WAN port of the DI-514.
Because I have a D-Link router at home which works flawlessly with my powerbook, I decided to connect the ethernet cable of the powerbook to the D-Link which has 4 ethernet ports. Lo and behold, the powerbook acquired a private ip address and connected to the LAN and internet!
When I connected the powerbook direct to the Efficient Networks router, it could not communicate. I believe that there must be some software incompatibility between the powerbook and the Efficient Networks router. By connecting to the D-Link, the D-Link assigned an ip address to the powerbook, and it could connect to the server, lan, etc..
Only problem is that I have a Brother network printer that cannot connect to the powerbook. My powerbook cannot find it on the network. Because there is a linksys switch connected to the efficient networks router's third ethernet port, maybe as you said, going through the D-Link via DHCP (when the Linksys is also acting as a DHCP server, might cause this type of problem. What do you think?
As a final note, other imac G5's connected to the linksys switch (which then connects to the Efficient Network's router) have no problem connecting to the lan or internet and have no problem connecting to any of the printers. When I put the powerbook on that switch, I could not connect to the internet - i.e. whether connecting via the lynksys switch or direct with the efficient networks router - same results: no internet connection whether manually or via DHCP.
So the imac G5 has no problem with the efficient networks router but the powerbook G4 hits a brick wall. The G4 likes the D-Link router. I am concerned (and I will have to check this) that if I turn off the dhcp server feature from the D-Link, that whatever software issue crops up between the powerbook and the Efficient Networks router, will rise up again, because the D-Link will act like a simple switch (just like my linksys switch), and we'll be back to square zero. In any case, no harm in trying. This may be the cause of the Powerbook not seeing that Brother printer (even though it sees another printer and other macs).
Having spent hours reading about network problems, I think it's safe to say that macs have problems with certain routers. Why a G5 works and a powerbook G4 doesn't is beyond me, but clearly software must play a role.

  • What is the BEST thing to do with my PowerBook?  Any Help?

    Hi there,
I have a Powerbook G3/400 - the older one with the bronze keyboard - that has OS 10.1.5. I was told by someone previously that I had what is called a "Pismo" system, which is apparently good. It is a great computer - I have had no problems.
Here is my quandry, however. I got an iPod for Christmas and want to use it. The iPod requires a minimum of 10.2.8. I am aware that with the "Pismo" system and the amount of memory I have, I can upgrade all the way to the Tiger OS. My question is, do I WANT to do this?
I was also told that with my older system, Tiger would take up a lot of memory and it would probably be best to completely wipe out my Hard Drive and put Tiger on after that. Fine - sounds like that could be done.
Question is this: Is it wiser to go ahead and go with Tiger, being that it is very stable and the best of the OS X's so far? Does anyone know FOR SURE if my system will support it? Will it make me run slow because it takes up so much memory? Or, do I find a copy of OS 10.2 or 10.3 on eBay, for example, and go with those to possibly save me some memory and speed issues? Will I see problems with 10.2 or 10.3 being unstable and finicky?
Any help that someone has would be greatly appreciated.
    Suzanne

    Suzanne,
Despit Tom's protestations there's no reason Tiger should not run well on your Pismo. If you don't have an external Firewire drive, then I suggest you get one and use it to make a bootable backup of your current system. You can do that using Carbon Copy Cloner (www.versiontracker.com.) Just take some basic precautions. Before making the bootable backup boot from your 10.1 Installer CD. As soon as the installer finishes loading select Disk Utility from the Installer menu. After DU loads select your OS X startup volume from the list on the left, then click on the First Aid tab in the DU main window, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors it has fixed then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. Quit DU, then quit the installer. If you have 10.1.5 installed then open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder on your hard drive. Select your startup volume from the list on the left, then click on the First Aid tab in the DU main window, then click on the Repair Permissions button.
Now make your bootable backup to the Firewire drive.
When you get the Tiger DVD I recommend that you completely reformat your hard drive before installing Tiger using the following procedure:
    1. Boot from the Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Once the formatting is completed quit DU and return to the Installer. Now proceed doing a clean install of Tiger to your main hard drive. If all goes well you can restore you personal files from your backup. You will have to replace any third-party software with updated versions that are Tiger compatible.
If software compatibility is a major concern then before updating to Tiger (or Panther) check with all your software developers to be sure there are compatible upgrades available. The following will also be helpful in this regard:
    http://www.macintouch.com/tigercompat.html
    http://www.macintouch.com/tigerreview/incompatibility.html
    Also read: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607363&#607363
If you have problems, are not happy with Tiger, can't find compatible software, have third-party hardware support problems, etc. you can always boot from your Firewire backup, erase the hard drive and restore your backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • Why is wireless router connectivity is different with Powerbook than iMac?

I had problems with my 10.2 on the G3 450 iMac (that caused me to go to 10.3 about 2 weeks ago), my trusty old Buffalo router fried its WAN port. I replaced it with a Netgear unit, then a Linksys unit, now I'm back to Buffalo. The ongoing problem is that the laptop has a heck of a time connecting to the internet - while the iMac (via ethernet) has no problems whatsoever. It doess/did this with every manufacturer of routers I tried (since first I thought it may be a Netgear incompatibility issue).
Strange part about the problems: Only initially does it spend 20+ seconds (close to Safari/Firefox timeout) "looking for" the host. Once it has found it, if you click on any links within the same host, it's lightning-fast. Just the initial callup seems to be inordinately difficult. I was hoping new firmware for the wireless modem, 10.4, the latest Airport update etc would alleviate the situation - no such luck. It USED to work fine on the old wireless router ... Also, it does this "looking for" business whether I have security enabled or not (I usually run 128bit encoding).
I don't really mind waiting for a few seconds for a site to load, but when you're talking about something like Yahoo or ESPN, all these independent advertising servers have to be contacted to load the page and - you guessed it - it's a 20+ second delay for each one...
I've rebooted the router and the laptop many times; I doubt it's the cable modem as the Ethernet on the iMac comes from the same router an doesn't have a problem at all. Any chance it's a setting of some sort in the preferneces panels?
The problem appeared initially with the Netgear router. The whole reason I went back to Buffalo is that I never had any issues in the 4 years I owned the previous one (until the WAN port went out). I also tried a Linksys router but admittedly didn't spend a lot of time with it as the delay problem appeared right from the start.
As far as 3rd party hardware is concerned, I wouldn't mind just getting an Apple Airport station at this time, but really don't want to spend the $ if it's an issue with either the laptop or its Airport card. I guess I could get one here at the local Apple store and bring it back if it doesn't work any differently (at least then I'd know it's either a laptop or a Comcast Cable-issue...).
    System setup:
    Desktop: G3 "Graphite" iMac / slot-loading / 400Mhz / 640MB RAM / 10.3.9
    Laptop: 15" G4 Aluninium Powerbook / 1.25Ghz / 1GB RAM / 10.4.6
Wireless: Buffalo AirStation Turbo G WHR-HP-G54 (wireless to laptop / ethernet to iMac).
    Powerbook 15/1.25GHz/1GBRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It sounds as though you're having a problem with DNS lookups. Try this, type into Terminal (Applications > Utilities)…
    sudo lookupd -flushcache
It will subsequently ask you for your administrator password. Type it in and then wait for the prompt to return. Do not do anything before then. Now, restart and see if things are any better.

  • External Enclosure for Powerbook

I recently purchased an Addonics external enclosure to use with a G4 Powerbook. I also bought a Maxtor 400gb drive. After having some problems in formatting the drive, I found out the following from Addonics:
**For Mac OS only, there have been reports of incompatibility with the Firewire connection on G5 and PowerBook running Mac OS 10.2 using SATA hard drive larger than 200G. The latest Mac OS 10.3.6 is not supported at this time.**
I'm wanting suggestions on which enclosure to purchase that will function correctly.

I have also used these, but they are pricer than granitedigital.
One very tough enclosure, however, and might worth the money for mobile application such as the poster mentioned.

  • PowerBook Constant Freeze and Graphics Problems

I have a Powerbook 12" 1.33Ghz Leopard 10.5.2 , I star to work in anything and in a few minutes its freezes and appears a Kernel Panic or de backend System Text start to output reports overwriting the last graphic image.. here a picture..
    http://cyberkiko3d.com/down/photo.jpg
I remove the memory card, and stills hapening..
I want to know is this is just a kernel problem that it stops formating or is a hardware problem involving the LogicBoard or Graphic Card..
    Thanks

I guess memory can fail over time. I just haven't experienced it myself. (Or heard of it, but it is a piece of hardware).
You can test your RAM by either using your system installation / restore discs (the original grey discs that came with your machine) and pop in Disc 1 and reboot the computer holding down the OPTION key and from there, you will get the choice for Apple Hardware Test, which you can use to do a basic test of your RAM.
Second, if you ever signed up for AppleCare and got the TechTool Deluxe disc that comes with it, you can use that too for a more extensive RAM test. Just be careful not to use it to diagnose anything with your hard drive. Just use it for RAM. (Be warned, as their is an incompatibility with Tiger that can ruin your drive. Though I see you have Leopard, so don't even know if it works).
The other test you can do, as suggested by many of the top users in these forums is "Rember" which tests your RAM and should let you know what's going on. I used it once after using it as a suggestion (taking someone else's suggestion and using it for my own testing) and it showed the second module of memory that I bought on eBay--the one that doesn't cause kernel panics--to pass.
You can find that here: [http://www.kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember>
Also, when you get your RAM replacement, I highly recommend getting Apple OEM suppliers such as modules from Samsung, Hynix, or Micron (manufactured by Crucial). They should be trouble free.
I say should because the Samsung 1GB module I bought for my 12-inch PowerBook from OtherWorld Computing has worked flawlessly for almost two years now. The one I was talking about previously, that crashed my 15-inch machine? A Samsung one as well. So, it is true that these Aluminum PowerBook G4s are picky about the RAM installed.

I forgot to ask you... what brand RAM do you have installed? (If you know and it is labeled).

  • PowerBook & Mini compatibility problem

This took some troubleshooting but now that it is repeatable I am hoping for some kind of solution.
I have two Mini/intel systems and a 12" PBG4. If I create a computer-to-computer network on the PowerBook everything works fine. If I actually create the c-to-c network on either Mini the connection indicates it is fine in all the preference panes however nothing functions for the PowerBook (web, afp, itunes etc all fail) while the Minis can chat away no problem. Since the PowerBook is the portable machine that comes and goes I would prefer to use one of the Minis to create the network. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Greg
(all systems 10.4.8 and are 'up to date' according to software update. No internet connections involved, just static IPs, appletalk and the peer to peer network. All systems have airport extreme cards.)

    Hi Duane,
No internet involved or internet sharing. 3 Macs (10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.3) with only airport enabled in Network Port Configurations. From the Airport Status menu bar icon I am choosing Create Network... naming it and assigning it a WEP password. One mini has Apache, AFP and iTunes sharing enabled. The remaining two macs join the network using the WEP password and all claims to be functioning properly in the Network prefs pane as well as the Airport Status menu in the menu bar.
The PowerBook can see the iTunes shared folder, mount the AFP volume and view the Apache pages if it creates the network, however cannot if the network is created from the Mini.
Since there is a repeatable recipe I can use to get the computers networked I don't see this as a huge problem, but I would certainly enjoy having things actually function as I think Apple intended. This perhaps could be some bug or incompatibility yet to be noticed simply because it is not likely a common setup.
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Energy Saver doesn't put Powerbook into sleep mode

I've noticed many issues with Sleep mode on the PB line, but wondered if anyone else was having this problem:
PB will go to Sleep if it's told to (shut lid, Apple Menu -> Sleep, Logitech Keyboard Sleep/Shutdown button, etc), but it will not put itself to sleep if left idle for ANY amount of time. Does not seem to matter whether or not it's plugged in.
I should not that the screen goes blank, but the hard drive never seems to spin down, little white light on lid release never comes on, etc. So it could be Sleep VS Deep Sleep, don't know really.
Note, this is not unique to my machine; others in the office where I manage systems/network have this problem, and we run a variety of G4 powerbooks 15 " models.
Not really sure when it stopped sleeping (have been on the ball with 10.4.x updates) but has been the case for some time now.
Also, have reset the PMU, and has not made any difference. Any one else having similar issues? Seems to me like Power Management of the G4 may have broken along the way.
    Cheers,
    J
    Powerbook G4 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.5 GHz

    Joe,
No Classic running; haven't had Classic on my system for at least 6 years. You could say that I'm a bit of an OS X biggot, to be honest. No looking back, and all that.
Used Top/Activity Monitor, and nothing running save the daemons/procs that usually appear - certainly nothing that jumps out at me as a problem. Even disabled all virus checking just to make sure it hadn't developed an incompatability with something in one of the last updates - no effect. Seriously, this is a case of 'it worked yesterday, and now (post updates) it doesn't.' Not that it's evident what the culprit is; nothing on the 10.4.8 updates seems a likely candidate, nor does anything on the 10.4.7. And not that I could even pin point when it happened either - simply became evident over time that hard drive wasn't spinning down, Sleep light wasn't coming on, etc.
I'm tempted to fish out my ol' TI Book 400, and give it a go and see if it has problems. Would at least eliminate any hardware dependencies that might be an issue. Don't know that I can be bothered though - in the grand scheme of things, it's just a minor thing and digging much deeper would require effort that would get in the way of real work.
In any case, all suggestions are welcome and help is appreciated.

  • HD invisible in Powerbook Ti DVI

I think the problem I'm having with Tiger not seeing my internal hard drive is with my logic board. I sent my Powerbook Ti DVI in to IResq, and they determined that I had a bad logic board, so I replaced it. I bought a used board and installed it, but no matter what I did, Tiger did not see the hard drive. The Powerbook would not boot in safe mode at all, instead giving me a kernel panic. I was able to get Tiger to boot off of the install DVD, but no hard drive. I sent that board back, but I'm having similar problems with its replacement. I was told that the hard drive I sent them to test for incompatibility with the logic board had a bad image on it.
I have checked and double-checked all connections to the logic board, including the two connectors from the hard drive, and they all look secure to me. I have tried two different hard drives, the original 20g and the 120g I replaced it with. On the previous replacement logic board, Disk Utility found the 120g when I connected it as an external drive. My original logic board had no problem with either hard drive. In single-user mode, it gives me the message that Extension "com.apple.driver.KeyLargoATA" has no kernel dependency. Is this related to the hard drive?
I have some Powerbook restore discs with Mac OS9. Four of them are labeled Software Restore, and one is labeled Software Install. Would the Apple Hardware Test be on any of these discs? Is there anything else I can try to determine what part I would need to replace to get my Powerbook up and running again?
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is there a possibility that the HD connector on the logic board itself would be defective?
Possible, yes. Common, no. The cable itself is much more common, though not "common" either.
The 120g drive was recognized in Disk Utility when I put it in an external drive enclosure and plugged it in via USB. I also verified and repaired permissions on the drive. Verify disk reported no errors.
Would make sense with bad HD cable.
I will try to reformat the hard drive, but I'm still concerned about the fact that I can't consistently boot the Powerbook from the install DVD. Is that normal for a Powerbook if its only problem is the HD cable?
Sorry, I didn't catch that in original post. There have been reports here that bad a bad HD or cable or optical drive or cable or other components have prevented proper functioning, but it's certainly not common. Try disconnecting the HD altogether and booting from install disc.
I can order a new cable if that will be the fix.
Can't guarantee that. It's simply trial and error troubleshooting.
I guess at some point I will decide to stop sinking money into an obsolete 'Book.
    Good to consider.
I've already replaced the display on it in addition to the logic board (both used)
Not at the same time I hope. For the price of those two items, I'm guessing you could have purchased a perfectly functioning used PB, or been quite a way toward a new PB.

  • MBP 2011, External Eizo monitor. Will I have issues?

I have read there are alot of issues with the new Macbook Pro 2011 and external screen via Displayport. What kind of issues are there?
Im going to buy an -EIZO FLEXSCAN EV2333WH 23"- monitor for photography/design work, and want it to work flawless via Displayport.
Will it work, maybe someone out there can confirm it?

BEWARE! I just bought new 2011 15" MBP with MiniDisplayPort and tried to connect it to my 30" Dell monitor (vintage 2007) which had worked fine with my 2007 15" MBP (but those were days when MBP had DVI connector).
The monitor can be connected to the 2011 MBP with the MiniDisplayPort-to-DVI but then only produces 1280x800 resolution or lower; while my monitor was used to supporting 1920x1200 or even 2560x1600. The 1280x800 looks horrible on a big screen and would be a waste with an EIZIO.
I have ordered, but not received, an Apple "DisplayPort-to-Dual-DVI" adapter for $99 (wow, that is a rip off!) but have not confirmed it will work. The Apple tech I spoke to said "we don't support nor know anything about supporting Dell monitors" (whereas the Apple sales guy I spoke to *before* buying assured me that the simpler adapter above would be fine with my Dell monitor. Urrrrggghhhhh........
Not sure what I am going to do since I have to have a large external monitor for my work......

  • Mac Pro with Eizo monitor

    Hi-
I currently use an eizo display connected via the DVI to my G4 Powerbook. It uses Eizo ColorNavigatior software.
I ordered a Mac Pro with the x9100 card. I also downloaded the Ub version of Eizo ColorNaviagtor. The question is, can I hook up a non-Apple monitor right away? Otherwise, how can I install the Eizo software with no monitor hooked up?
I do have an Apple 17" CRT Studio display, that is my only Apple monitor with a 15pin VGA Video Connector. I have the DVI~VGA adapter cable, so shoud I use that monitor first to install my Eizo software?

not only will it startup just fine, but if you check the software you'll see it will install a profile for the monitor. I spent a lot of time trying to get a profile that was any better than the stock EIZO profile and found it's pretty much dead on the money for my use so you may or may not need to calibrate the monitor beyond the profile provided with the EIZO itself.
