Ejecting DVD Problem

Ok, I'm trying to install Debian Linux on my powerbook using a two DVD set and I've come across a problem. During the installation it asks me to remove disc 1 and insert disc 2 but since I'm not in OS X the eject button (upper right button) has no function.
Is there any way for me to eject the DVD other than pressing that button? Perhaps a keyboard combination that causes the disc to eject?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
(by the way, I'm dualbooting with Tiger. Don't think I've abandoned OS X)

I don't understand what computing "environment" you're in. While you're in the midst of trying to install Debian Linux, and you need to swap out disc 1 for disc 2, are you in some form of Linux environment, a Terminal-like environment, can you use basic Linux commands?
See if any of the methods outlined in this MacFixit article help: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20041011075232575

  • Unable to eject DVD from drive - tried all troubleshooting suggestions

Tried ejecting DVD using eject button on keyboard, using disk utilities, restarting computer and holding down mouse. Nothing seems to work. Any other suggestions for getting a DVD out that was inserted backwards and is not being read by drive?
    Thanks!

Did you solve this problem? I seem to be in the same perdicament. My DVD-drive has vanished completely from the OS after I inserted a seemingly harmless dvd. And now none of the usual tips work.

  • Macbook Pro ejecting DVD

I have had my Macbook Pro for a little under a year now, and just recently it has started ejecting DVDs that I put into it. I haven't changed anything, and it wasn't messing up before. It just started ejecting the DVDs I put in the drive a few seconds after I put it in. I repaired the disc permissions and that didn't do anything. What is the deal?

First install the recent software update from apple. Also, try inserting the install disk that came with your computer and see if the computer ejects that too. Then try resetting the SMC and the PRAM of your computer, here are the steps:

If none of these help, since your computer is under a year old, call AppleCare or go to an Apple Store, this might be a hardware issue. Good luck.

  • I can't eject dvd from imac 27

i cant eject dvd from imac 27 some tips please

Restart and hold down a mouse button. That signals the system to force eject any disc in the drive. If that doesn't work then the drive might of failed or at least the eject motor of the drive.

  • I cannot eject DVD from iMac. It sounds as if it is trying to eject.  I've tried onscreen eject and keyboard eject key.

  • Help - how to Eject DVD/CD in mini?

    Hi all
I got my new mini last week
I use it as HTPC only with the apple remote (no keyboard or mouse).
I need help with - how to eject DVD/CD in mini?
    Thx for the help
    Benzi

If you press the Menu button of the Apple Remote, a Screen should come up with one of the choices being DVD. Use the Remote's "wheel" to choose DVD and then press the center button. The next window has a choice to Eject the DVD.
Music CDs work the same way, except substitute the word CD for DVD in the previous paragraph. The Eject option will be the last option at the bottom of the album list.
Or does this not work for you?
Please remember that you can only use standard size DVDs and CDs. Don't insert any of the smaller 80mm ones.

  • Mat**bleep**a DVD problem

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba equium psaaqe vista laptop it has a mat**bleep**su DVD drive. All of a sudden it stopped working, it wont read or write or recognize any CD DVD. I have researched the problem and the nearest I can get to a solution  can be found here.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-gb
Problem is I can't locate  default data value DVD/CD-rom and the class data value cdrom? As this is alphabetical it seems its not on my system. And as the CD drive isn't’t working I can't reformat any ideas solutions much appreciated.
    Cheers

So no replies surprise surprise! I have trolled the internet and find lots of mat**bleep**a DVD problems, I also note many complaint's regarding Toshiba support. All I can say is I will never ever buy a Toshiba product again. My equium failed after I removed the tempro product support program, Toshiba sent me an email informing me my hard drive was over 50% full buy a new laptop, it then suggested a model costing over £1000. I concluded that the program was there to spy rather than help its customers. Toshiba got my money and ran off like a thief in the night!

  • Help, DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

    Hi
    a. You are using Cheap media as Memorex, NoName etc DVDs - I only use Verbatim
    b. You use a DL-DVD or DVD+/-RW type of media - Old Macs can not use DL-DVDs - I only use DVD-R
    c. Your DVD-burner needs a cleaning - Cleaning DVD without liquid but the brush type
    d. Is there OK free space on Your Start-Up (Macintosh HD) hard disk - I never go less than 25Gb free.
    e. Can You describe the material used to create Your DVD
    - Video Codec/s
    - Photo file formats
    - Audio file formats
iDVD can not use all but only a few of them - still it tries and then often fails
    Just to start by.
    Yours Bengt W

(I don't have my (no-longer booting) iBook in front of me to check this, but I think this is what I did last night....)
Boot single user -- hold down "cmd-S" immediately after you turn the computer on.
"diskutil list" will give you a list of your disks. My CD drive was disk1.
"diskutil eject disk" should eject the target disk.

  • DVD player ejects dvds and won't play

i upgraded to snow leopard and added memory to my macbook and now the dvd player just ejects dvd's. not sure if it's related. help please!

Did you use the retail 10.6 installer that looks like .  If not, then you used the wrong disc and only that disc will install properly.

  • My iBook G3 eject Dvd's after about3 seconds of inserting it?

My iBook ejects Dvds after about 3 seconds of inserting it. It accepts CD's but not Dvd's. Does anyone know if somethings wrong?

Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
Some iBook G3 models do not have DVD capabilities. You may have one of those.

  • After installing VLC (64bit), my MBP only reads CDs and ejects DVDs. Uninstalling VLC did not fix the problem.  What do I do?

I have recently installed VLC media player (64bit), played a movie file on a DVD+RW for 30 seconds, then decided to stop the movie.  I poped the DVD out, and a minute later I reinserted the same DVD, it was ejected after 10 second.  Now when ever I insert the DVD in my MBP it gets ejected.  It reads my CDs but does not read my DVD. Uninstalling VLC did not fix it.  I am not even sure at this if VLC caused the problem.  What do I do?

Have you rebooted since uninstalling VLC?

  • Problem ejecting dvd

I tried ejecting it by dragging the icon to the trash. Nothing happens. This is a copy of a dvd someone made for me. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
You have presumably already tried holding down the keyboard eject button for a couple of seconds - and right-click(or control-click) on the disk and select 'Eject'. If you have Applications open, one of them may be 'using' a file on the disk. You could check by closing all Applications.
If it still won't come out, you may be able to open the drive if you hold down the mouse button on Restart. If this doesn't work, slide down the silver optical drive gate and insert a strong, straightened paper clip in the emergency eject hole shown in Figure 3 here (you don't have to remove the drive)(it is a mechanical release, so you will have to slide the tray out by hand)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88215
Alternative positions for the emergency eject hole are shown in Figure 4.
NB The link is just to illustrate the postion of the emergency eject hole - Ignore the 'G4' bit, removing the drive, etc.
    Good Luck.
