EMac CD tray issue (it's possessed!)

This issue just started in the last 24 to 36 hours.
The cd tray will open and close at random.
I checked the case to make sure it was not in contact with the tray button.
I disconnected the keyboard to make sure the tray key on the keyboard was not stuck.
I have installed Security updates with no change.
Any suggestions?

The "Disk Utility has lost connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue" error message is addressed in this thread. Essentially, you need to update iTunes to 6.04 or better (and it wouldn't hurt to use the Mac OS X Combo Update 10.3.9).
A clean install, as contrasted to an Archive and Install, overwrites the hard drive but doesn't zero the drive first. Before trying that, I would've suggested unplugging the keyboard/mouse and/or using a different USB keyboard if available, to check those aren't generating spurious USB port noise that can mimic the drawer open key press.

  • HP 2055 Printing from selected tray issue

    Hey all,
This is my first time posting here but i need some serious help.
We have a networked HP 2055 printer that 3 workstations are printing to.  We have the native drivers installed on the machines, and have it selected to print tp tray 3 (the bottom) tray only as it has plain letter paper in it.  When the plain letter paper runs out it will start printing to any other tray.  I know on other HP printers you can select the printer to use the requested tray only, but we dont see that on this printer.  How can we fix this issue?
    Thanks
    Rob

When you print from "File", "Print," select Tray 3 specifically in the driver. You probably have the paper source set to 'Automatically Select" now, in the "Paper/Quality" tab.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

    Hello,
Is it a frontend printing? Which device type is used?
In recent SAPGUI patches, it is possible to map the tray ids via the
Frontend Options Editor/ tab 'Printer Tray Selection'.
(see KBA 1704243 about how to access the Frontend Options Editor)
    Please test the following:
Select the printer model and in "Paper Trays", select "Tray 1",
in the field "SAP ID" enter the value: 1
    and,
select "Tray 2", in the field "SAP ID" enter the value: 2
Do the same for Tray 3, 4...
After this, please restart SAPGUI and test the printing.

  • EMac shivering display issue

Hi guys, I saw this topic of discussion a while ago. The problem seems to happen during spinning of the HD. I was and still having this problem since day 1 (mine is 2 yrs old unit now). Sent twice to service provider, all available parts have been replaced - logic board, power board and CRT (twice). FYI, I have upgraded my HD from 40GB to 120GB (day 1 purchased of the eMac) and now 200GB. Both HD are Maxtor Diamond series. Just last week after another complaint to Apple, they arange another service provider to pick up the unit. Well, they blame on the un-OEM HD upgrading which is thicker in size than their OEM HD. This caused the HD to touch the internal body and the spinning vibration caused the shivering display on CRT. According to them apple care plan doesn't cover this and I was made to pay for the transportation fee.
Well, what do you guys think? I would think that upgrading of HD is a very common thing to do. I don't have any such problem when upgrading my PC HD. To replace with Apple OEM HD will cost us here a bomb. And what's the point of paying for expensive apple care plan? The reason given in their job sheet is simple: using third party item which is not OEM product. As to why the vibration causing it, no answer. To me, this is purely a design flaw from Apple. When asking for more explanation, everyone in Apple saying this is not their field and refuse to "speculate" on this issue and I was kick around to beg for more explanations. So, what say you guys about this?
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)
    eMac 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Hi, thnx for sharing your experience. Yes, we have the same problem here. My eMac still has 1 more year of apple care on cover now but I don't think it is useful anymore now. So far, all parts have been replaced for my unit except the housing. I was made to understand from Apple people here that the OEM HD they used is Maxtor as well but now they are telling it's the slim version and it cost a bomb here. Adding in the cost of replacing OEM HD for 200GB and an apple care plan, I can buy a pretty decent PC here.
The service provider told me that the vibration caused this problem due to the the authorised reseller "forced" in the Maxtor 200GB HD into it's bracket. The reseller then give their own version of explanation that all HD size is the same and if it can be seated onto the bracket then it was not "forced". When I queried the service provider and apple guys from Australia as to why the vibration can caused such a problem, all stopped short at it, the only arguement they gave was "you replaced the HD with not an Apple OEM version"...and that was end of the story. And I was made to pay for their transportation fee even though I got the apple care. A call to their toll free no. technical dept. & customer care was returned with the same simple & short reply. What an irresponsibility act from Apple.
I love the Mac and it's OS but the after sales service here is really *****! If they are telling me the "vibration" is causing the screen shivering, then it can only mean to me that Apple is not carrying out the trial test properly when launching this product and never had any vibration test done. This is probably the problem with Apple product, want to cramp in everything inside a compact casing but never really care about future upgrade and reliability, and with some exorbitant charges on spare-parts. That is why they have many flop models in the past. Now, I'm disapointed & upset. Perhaps I should look up to Bill Gates again and wait for the longhorn launching next year. As far as I concerned Apple is considered DEAD in this region.

    A suggestion to try here

You could also try re-installing the 10.4.7 combo updater

Otherwise it sounds like AppleCare or a replacement drive.

  • Workaround for Reader 10.1.2 print "Duplex setting/Printer Blinking/Paper Tray" issue

    Dear users,
We have been receiving feedbacks from our users related to the recent "Duplex setting/Printer Blinking/Paper Tray" problems faced.
A lot of these issues have been faced due to introduction of "Print on Both sides" setting right on the Print Dialog in order to help our users set this option without having to go to the printer properties dialog. However, we have made this option as default ON and hence users have reported problems described above.
Thus, we request you to please try unchecking this setting to OFF state and then print to see if that resolves the problem faced.
    Thanks,
    Atul Agarwal
    Adobe Systems

You can easyly solve this with the following procedure:
Open your Windows Group Policy Editor, chose "New Group Policy", go to UserConfiguration->Settings->Windows Settings->Registry. Right click "Registry", chose "new-> registry assistent", local computer, go to
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\AVGeneral]
    "iDuplexMode"=dword:00000002
    (mark only "iDuplexMode" !)
    and click "finish".
Doubleclick that new entry down till you see "iDuplexMode", double click it too, and change the REG_DWORD value into "1" (decimal). At the very top I also chose "replace" under "action" (not sure if really needed)
Close the GPO editor and link that newly create group policy to you domain or OU or whatever.
You can make a "gpupdate /force"at a client to see the reg entry changing from "2" (= dublex) to "1" (=non duplex).
Reboot your clients or just wait your personal "gpupdate time period".
    Thanks Adobe for that setting!
BTW: You can also config that with the "Adobe Customization Wizard X" and save it in a .mst file to roll out your installation with Active Directory software distribution or your favorite tool. Unfortunatly - as it is an entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER - this hive is only load after log in and it is not present during bootup installation, so your setting gets lost.
You can do the same for Adobe Acrobat X, if you need. The Key is:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\AVGeneral]
    "iDuplexMode"=dword:00000002

  • Icon tray issue, maybe related to power gauge

    Dear Community,
I have a 1 month old ThinkPad L540 with Windows 7 Pro SP 1 with Power Manager 6.64.4.
My icon tray is  not shown correct, it seems that a part of the tray is shown twice, see the image below:
I tried disabling the power gauge (which i actually do not want), which did not solve the problem. Then it copied the first part of the standard icon tray. It does seem that it is related to power manager, however. But I am not sure about that. The copied part of the icon tray is unresponsive.
If i for some reason unlock the taskbar and tries to resize the icon tray area, it only gets worse. If I make it bigger, it just copies the icon tray again and again.
Any ideas? fixes? It's only aesthetic, but it annoys me like crazy!

    Hi Vkgundersen,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
We understood that your query is about battery charging indication on ThinkPad L540.
Regarding this issue right click on taskbar and go to Toolbars and un-tick Power Manager, and proceed the same step to tick it, check if the issue still persist.

  • Blackberry Passport sim tray issue is prevalent and they will not fix it for you because it is your fault. Ridiculous.

I bought my Blackberry passport on Feb 13rd. Right out of the box the sim tray didn't read the sim. I thought it is my sim's problem, so I waited for another sim. New sim came in, still didn't read. After a long call with customer support and BB virtual support, I had my device sent in around mid March. They checked it and said I damaged the sim tray and I need to pay 268$ to have it fixed. I though it is ridiculous since I haven't done anything to the phone. So I argued with them and eventually they agreed to have my fixed without cost.
However when they sent me back the device, I poped in the sim and it only works for 1 day, on and off the second day and then not reading the sim at all after that. I think the sim tray's problem with the passport is prevalent and the pin can be broken by the simple act of poping in the sim card. My ATT sim is working perfectly fine on the 5s and my brother's iphone 6.
After 2 days of receiving the "repaired" device, I call them again and this time they said it is certainly my fault and if I send it in again, I will have to pay 268$ to have it fixed.
So I thought for people out ther if you have a passport, don't pop in and out the sim card. It can really easily be broken.
For me, I think now I just gonna use my "broken sim tray new passport" as a reading device. After 10 years, I will officially switch to other brand. Still love the keyboard though, but anyway.

Check that your sim card does not have a burr or edge on it before you insert it, as that may be what's damaging the SIM pins.
Site anly allow linlks to web images, so here's what the tray is supposed to look like - with the SIM cover on.
FWIW - a T3 torx driver is required to remove the screws around the SIM  and TF card tray cover. That would allow you to look at the underlying pins - and possibly - with a bit of luck, fix them on your own.

  • Lxpanel tray issue after suspend

Hi, I tried LXDE on my Arch, it's awesome ! But I have small problem with lxpanel. After suspend lxpanel flashes and tray icons out of system tray are badly spaced.
I don't know why, but if I restart lxpanel or restart X, it works good. How I can fix it or how I can restart lxpanel automatically after suspend ? Thx

  • EMac start up issues

I'm sure this topic has come up before, so forgive me. My problem seems to be that our eMac is becoming harder & harder to start. When I go power it up from off, either I get just a dead screen & the sound of the fan or a series of beebs and staticy clicks & the power light flashes, again with a dead screen and the fan. The problem seems to be getting progessively worse, before after a few tries, it will power up & run perfectly. But now it seems to be getting harder to power it up. We did upgrade to a new iMac this year, but I still love my old eMac and am not quite ready to say goodbye (mainly because it I still have programs on it I use & haven't been able to afford to upgrade yet). Is it the end of the line for it or is there something that can be dine within a reasonable cost? Any suggestions would be great, thanks.
    Dave Dobesh

Hi Dave, no worry about asking even if it's been answered before here... still nearly impossible to find anything you're looking for on any Apple site.
Have you blown the dust out lately, especially the bootom RAM access door?
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • My iPhone 4 signal issues are gone...

Well, like many of people here I had the obnoxious signal loosing issue that is affecting a staggering amount of iPhone 4 users. However, I never realized I inadvertedly fixed the issue until just 10 minutes ago. I had signal issues since Day 1.
Bear with me thru this small story. I saw here a thread on MacRumors about a user experiencing camera issues on his iPhone 4. Said issue was that the camera showed a green spot in the center. I was sorta curious but never really paid much attention to it. This was 4 days ago. Flash forward to yesterday.
I was on the Apple Store picking out a new case for my iPhone 4, along with the respective screen protector. While I was doing that I saw an empty iPhone 4 demo unit and I decided to test drive FaceTime. I fired up both my iPhone 4 and the demo unit and connected. Disaster struck, my iPhone suffered from the same green spot effect as the iPhone from the user on MacRumors. Knowing full well, it was a hardware problem I set up an appointment for today at 6:30 PM.
Flash forward to today 6:30 PM. I got there at 6:15 and the Genius helped me out right away. He saw the problem, diagnosed my phone and concluded as previously stated it was hardware problem. Obviously warranty kicks in. He takes out my Micro SIM card and puts in the new iPhone (this was a brand new, not refurb unit). He activates it and hands it to me for mini inspection. first thing I do is check the camera, and against ALL odds, the same issue plagued this new phone. The Genius and I were, to say the least, shocked. Same issue, different phone. Now, how does this relate to the signal loss? Well, I am getting there so hang on tight.
The Genius does a comparisson between my iPhone and replacement unit to find the exact spot. He then pulls out his and does the comparisson to find his iPhone 4 too suffers from the dreaded green blob/spot. He then tells me there is no other replacement unit for my iPhone and that I had 2 choices. Take my current iPhone and wait if a software fix comes along, or take the replacement phone with me. I decided to wait and keep my phone (it is a hassle to resotre everything to previous state). So the Genius reswaped the SIM card to my phone back and handed it to me. (My iPhone spent 15 minutes with out SIM card while the Genius did all his tests on my and replacement unit, and while he asked for 2nd opinions on the green blob issue)
I went on my merry way, but realized something now. No matter what position I held my iPhone 4 in, the signal never decreased. I held it the many ways I know the signal issue pops and nothing. No bar loss, no signal loss, no call drop. NOTHING. So there you have it.
I am theorizing that moving the SIM card had something to do with the signal issue, because the only thing I have done to my iPhone 4 differently is take out and reinsert the SIM card. Other than that no other changes to it. No setting change, no software change no nothing. Just reinsertion of the SIM card. Now, to prove my theory, I need people who can test this and see if this fixes their iPhone. I know it did on mine, but on yours?
    Check it out.
PS - No, I did not have the green blob issue fixed.
My original thread is found here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=955742
Many users are claiming (me included) the signal issues being fixed.

I have "death-grip" issue. Just ejected SIM card to test SIM contacting the SIM tray issue. I have a 10x loupe and inspected the area in question (SIM card gold contacts touching tray) and I found that there is a space between contacts and SIM tray. Under 10x magnification you can easily see how precice my SIM card was made and cut. There's also a relief rout around contact area. Also there is a thin film of some non-conducting material between SIM card and SIM tray where the tray supports the card. This SIM tray even has the IMEI and Serial number etched on it and under 10x magnification you can appreciate the fabrication and close tolerances even this SIM tray is made to.
I followed all instructions on the macrumors forum and this "DID NOT" solve my "death-grip" issue and I can verify with 100% certainty that the SIM contacts are not touching the SIM tray anywhere.
I do hope this helps others but I am still hoping that this can be rectified with software.

Yes. After booting, in a terminal, enter
    sudo dmesg >desktop/bootup.txt
You will be prompted for a password which will not show up when you type it. Then hit enter.
The file should appear on your desktop. It is more-or-less a copy of the verbose boot.

Look at the dmesg text first.
