Email attachments not downloading to my iPhone

When I've attempted to check my mail, any emails with attachments won't download. If I click on the email, I get a grayed out message that says "This message has not been downloaded from the server."
Any ideas on how to correct this and get my attachments? Is there a setting that limits the size of emails? I didn't think some of the attachments were that large - just trying to open some Word files and some smallish PDFs. FYI, my email is from Bellsouth. Not sure if that affects anything. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I've had the same problem. It's extremely frustrating. I thought at first it was b/c I had tried to download over the Edge, but it is doing it occasionally over wi-fi as well.
Some solutions would be nice.

  • Replies to emails i send from my iMac are not downloading on my iPhone, why?

Replies to emails i send from my iMac are not downloading on my iPhone, just my iMac. All other emails download to both devices. How can I get all emails to download on both devices?

You may not have the same protocol setup. ie. Try using IMAP on both if available.
What Mail account is it? @example.com

  • Since the last upgrade, aol email does not download unless I touch the e-mail icon

Since upgrading to 7.1.1 my email does not download unless I touch the e-mail icon.  This affects both the I-pad and the I-phone 5s

I did the update on my iPad, but not on my phone and my AOL email hasn't been pushing to my phone or my iPad for the last couple of days. This started happening prior to me upgrading.  I hoped that it would at least help my iPad, but it hasn't.  Everything was fine until late Thurs or early Friday....May 1-May 2.  I called AOL yesterday, and they said that they would have upper level techs see if they can find out if it's a server problem, etc or anything else on their end, and get back to me.  Probably won't hear from them until Monday, at the earliest.  It happened very suddenly with my "push" nolonger working for me on both devices.

  • TS2755 My emails will not send on my iphone 5C?  Any suggestions

My emails will not send on my iphone 5C?  Anyone have a correction for that?

    Hey pamela9801,
I would first try out these troubleshooting steps:
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
    Try a different Wi-Fi connection
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
Then, if that doesn't work, I would continue along with the rest of the suggestions in the following article:

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • HT4528 Applications will not download to my iphone 4s

Applications will not download. They are on home screen but are transparent an say waiting under them. Has been two days now an have not installed yet. Also on my iTunes account my music will not download to the iPhone.

If the icon of the app draws on gray probably it's trying to update to a newer version of the app, you must be connected to the internet to complete the process, if you can not continue with your downloads, check the memory of your phone and be sure that you still have enough space to install the apps. Try to do a backup of your videos and photos on your computer and delete some files from yor phone. If you have enough space and you are connected to the internet then clic on the gray icon and the title will change to "paused" then clic it again and will try to reconnect to the server to resume the download. Best regards

  • IPhone and iPad iOS 5.1: Gmail IMAP attachments not downloading

I'm having an issue with Gmail (IMAP) not downloading attachments from myself! (I use Gmail to archive documents, etc). Same issue on my iPhone 4 and iPad 3, both iOS 5.1, using the default mail app with default "Gmail" account (IMAP) set up.
They *were* both working fine, then I erased both devices for a clean install. Set up the email accounts again, now none of my own attachments download on either device.
When I say not downloading, I see the attachment download box (dashed box with download arrow inside), and on pressing it, the attachment downloads (0 to XX kb), but then the download box just flashes back to showing the file size, and the attachments do not show. I keep pressing the download box but it flashes and nothing happens. Same with .jpg .png .doc .xls .pdf, etc.
    BEFORE THE FORMAT:
All attachments downloaded correctly (as far as I can remember) before I had erased both devices.
    NOW:
Attachments sent *from* me ([email protected]), via Gmail website, to me or anyone else, BEFORE formatting my iPad 3 and iPhone 4, do NOT download. However, if I then forward the email, including attachments, the attachments appear in the outgoing message preview! (so they're not corrupt)
Attachments sent *from* me ([email protected]), via Gmail website, to me or anyone else, AFTER formatting my iPad 3 and iPhone 4, DO download and correctly appear in the email.
Attachments sent *from* me ([email protected]), via iPhone/iPad, to me or anyone else, any time BEFORE or AFTER formatting my iPad 3 and iPhone 4, appear correctly.
Attachments sent from anyone else, *to* me ([email protected]), always appear correctly.
On a friend's iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1), adding my gmail account using the default "Gmail" setting (IMAP) works fine - all attachments download and show!
On a friend's iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1), adding my gmail account using the default "Gmail" setting (IMAP) replicates my problem - all attachments from me (sent before the format) do not download. (So it's not specific to my own devices!)
Gmail Exchange server (m.google.com) works fine: all attachements download and show correctly. Also no problem using Thunderbird IMAP or the Gmail web interface.
So it looks like it might be a problem with iOS 5.1, however it all seemed to be working fine before I did the erase/format... and new emails sent from me always appear correctly... actually that might explain why it was working before (as I was always downloading new emails, and not looking at archives).
So the only other thing that might have changed is some IMAP server setting? Could the headers or mail flags have changed somehow for older emails??
    Any thoughts? :-/

I reproduced this problem over the weekend, on friends' iPhones (all running iOS 5.1). Opening their Gmail sent folder and trying to view an attachment sent from a while back (basically one that hasn't already been cached by the Mail app) failed to display. Exactly the same problem - download arrow flashes and attachement won't show / can't be opened.
I'm in the UK, but not sure if that affects anything.
Thinking this might be a bug in the Mail app in iOS 5.1, as earlier versions work fine.

  • How to keep old email messages from downloading on new iphone?

I just got an iphone5 and linked it to my google email account.  I use Outlook for managing my emails on my computer and have very few emails in the inbox, but my iphone is trying to download 30,000 emails from my main google account.  How do I stop it?

ayushrathi thank you for the suggestion.  Unfortunately the mail days to sync option was not there.  I'm not sure why not because it should be.
I don't mind deleting most of the gmail messages in that inbox, but I can only find a way to either delete all or only 100 at a time.  I would like to be able to delete only those dated more than 90 days old.

  • EMail Body Not Downloading

    Hello,
My iPhone appears to be receiving email properly from my email provider (POP mailbox). However, certain emails I receive display only the header - but do not download the body. In place of the body, I receive this: "This message has not been downloaded from the server." I am not able to read the message nor am I given any option to download the missing text. Obviously, I want to see the message.
Would someone kindly tell me what is happening and how to receive the missing message?
    Thank you, Dale

Message bodies are not downloaded until you open the folder containing the message. If you have a POP3 account it is possible that the message has been downloaded and deleted from the server by another mail program running on a home or office computer, so the message is gone by the time you are ready to read it. If you have a POP3 account you should make sure that any other computers that access your mail are off or at least have automatic email retrieval disabled.
If you have an Exchange account there really IS an issue. When you set up an Exchange account on the iPhone it gets its settings from the Outlook client on your computer. In some cases this setting doesn't work right on the iPhone. So if you have this problem AND your mail server is Exchange do not set up the iPhone as an Exchange client. Instead, create the account on the iPhone as an IMAP account.
If a message is very larger (probably over 1 MB or so) the iPhone won't download it. This could be why it happens with only some messages.
Finally, if you have it set up as an IMAP account and it still happens you are very unusual, as just about everyone who has reported this problem is using either Exchange or POP3. (Unless it happens on very large messages only).

  • Email attachments not displaying

Recently I've noticed my iPad and iPhone both have issues displaying the same files - jpg and png - when they are sent as email attachments. I've tried from different accounts to different accounts (I have both Gmail and MobileMe email on my iPad, iPhone and Mac), and the files display correctly on my Mac in both Mail and Preview. But on my iPad and iPhone I just get a little blue question mark. Trying to save the image just saves the little blue question mark.
Anyone got any suggestions? I've tried restarting the devices, deleting/readding email accounts, and modifying/resaving/converting the images on my Mac with both Preview and Photoshop... none of which makes any difference. And yes, I have "Load Remote Images" on in Mail Settings.

I have the same problem I get a email from my security DVD with jpeg attachments and it shows and old picture.  It seems the iPad is stuck on the old picture. This happens only on the iPad other devices download correct image.

  • Email attachments not coming through

I am having trouble getting attachments in emails. Some of them come through and other do not. Most of them do not. I get a message that says "this message has not been downloaded from the server" What does this mean and why are they not coming through. I have 3 emails set up. My work email on an Exchange Server, Yahoo and Cox.net. Any suggestions or help would be grateful.

I assume these are pop email accounts?
If so, when on edge the speed is slower so attachments take longer to actually load than the email does. You may see the email show the headers and first few lines in preview, you may even get the email notification noise, but if you access the email before the full attachment is downloaded you will get the message not downloaded from server message.
    Two options:
1 - wait longer for the attachments to download before accessing the email, make sure the spinning circle is done spinning - when I was on pop, depending on the size of the attachment, I had to wait up to 30 minutes to get the email AND attachment to download.
2 - switch to an imap account and this issue basically goes away.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
You say this is your work email -- do you know if it is BES? BES is something that your firm may have that integrates your BB with the corporate email system and handles all communications between your email system and your BB. If your calendar and contacts are synching OTA, then you are likely on BES. If you are on BES, then it is also likely that your BES admins have set a policy for no attachments (yes, they can do that)...and only they can fix it. Even if they didn't put such a policy in, they have control over your BB and must address the situation.
