Email button in viewer fails in Silverlight OOB application

Scenario: A simple SL4 OOB (installed with elevated privileges) application contains a WebBrowser control that points to a pdf hosted on the Internet. Clicking the email button causes a dialog to popup a question whether to send a copy or send a link, and then fails when selecting either option.
The only thing I've been able to find out about it is that it appears to be related to sendmail.api:
Unhandled exception at 0x2a80e8c6 (SendMail.api) in sllauncher.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00257000.
I'm also inquiring at the SL forums, and I fully expect that support for either company will tell me that it's the other's fault, especially considering the specific companies involved. But if anyone has any ideas about this, it would be hugely appreciated.

Outlook is not an Apple product.

Does the Email button fail with some OS and Reader?

I use an Adobe form on a monthly basis and have a submit by email button. I get the majority of my forms submitted and collected fine but there is a small number, more frequent this month that I don't get the submission. Mac users in particular - the form never reaches me. I tested this on a Mac this morning and see that it says it will send the data, but it doesn't send any email. If you use other options, it sends the blank form.
I read there might be an issue with Reader 10 and Windows, is this still the case that the forms are not submitting with this OS and Reader version.

I'm in a University setting and everyone should be using Outlook (I think we're totally converted now across campus) I know that the Mac isn't delivering it to my inbox through the submit button, and if I use the email option I get the message that it will send it as an attachement but the form will be blank, which it is. My Google search indicated a problem with Reader 10 and Windows 7, so I wondered if that was my most recent problem. I had two show up for a training class today and I didn't have either registration so I didn't show. I've had over 500 registrations in the last 2 months and probably less than 10 had an issue with the form. Most of those 10 were Mac users so this recent issue with Win 7/ Reader 9 users had me wondering if there was something new going on with Reader. I am pretty sure that the majority of my recipients use Acrobat X Pro and did not experience the problem, but the two today indicated they had Reader only (9 & 10) so I wonder if what I Googled is true. Hoped there was an easy fix, but think my resolution is to make my note (Larger and Bold) that if they don't get a confirmation from me, they need to email me directly as it's possible I didn't get the submission. hello, firefox 19 has introduced its own integrated pdf viewer - if you want to switch back to the plugin you've used before to view pdfs just go to firefox options > applications & define the default action for the ''portable document format (pdf)''.

Email button works in preview mode but not when published to PDF

I thought I had cracked everything but - I have set preferences to email results to a specific address. In preview mode this works and outlook is opened with all the details. Once I have published to Acrobat 9 pdf - there is no response to the email button. If I play the SWF file I have the same problem. What am I doing wrong? Using Captivate 5 trial and Acrobat 9.3 Pro.

Is there a way to alter the file name given to the attachments in an email button?

When ever I click the standard email button, I get an attachement with random alfa and numeric characters for the file name. Is there any way to change the files names to match a data field in the form or start with something I choose?

Hi RudyLou36,
While viewing the form in Preview TAB of LC Designer you will always get the junk characters as the name of the file. Save the file and open it in Acrobat or Reader.
You won't be able to change the filename unless you save the file first. Here (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/462681) is an example of a number of ways to deal with parts of the email programatically.

Submit by Email Button Trouble

I have created a form fillable pdf with a Submit by Email button. The problem I am having is that some people I send this to fill out the form, click on the Submit by Email button and nothing happens. It doesn't work at all. Others have no problem with it working. Have you experienced this problem, or can you offer any suggestions how to correct this? I really need for this to work 100% of the time, or I will just need to remove this feature. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

When it doesn't work, do you know what PDF viewer is being used? It won't work with certain non-Adobe PDF viewers, such as the Preview application on the Mac or Google Chrome browser's built-in PDF viewer. It also may not work even if using Adobe Reader if the client doesn't have a propertly set up email client or the email client is otherwise not compatible. It will never work 100% of the time when sending by email.
If you want to increase the reliablility significantly, you should look into setting it up so the form submits to a web server. This has the added benefit of being able to be secure without too much trouble, unlike email.

Code for email button, anyone?

Your original code should work. The problem may be in your setup somehow. I recommend placing a trace command inside your event handler function so you can see whether or not the button is actually talking to the function.

Designer8..The Send Email button function gives an Error

I created a name and address form and a dropdown combo in AA9 then saved and closed it.
I then opened it in designer 8 and placed a "send by Email" button and closed it.
I then opened the pdf file in Reader 9 (as a user would) Then filled out the form and clicked the "send by Email" button (sent to myself) it arrived as an .xml attachment and would not open....Just gave this error message
Adobe Reader could not open 'poolcuetip_data(1).xml' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example. it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
Is there a Fix for this error (tried it several times)
OR
Can I put a send email button on the Acrobat form without having to open in Designer ? If so How ??????

There are many restrictions on submit by email and they vary by the code used to perform the submit. If you use the builtin "mailXXXX" method the user must have Windows and and a MAPI enabled email client. And if you use the URI "mailto" format the user with Reader must be viewing the PDF from within a web browser. And then you have the timing problems with slow computers or larger PDF forms. And this does not even start to cover email filters, identity issues and son on.
If you can use the sumbit to server script.

LiveCycle 8.0 Digital Signature shows Orange Flag ONLY IF Blank Form Has Submit or Email Button

My subject line says it all. After a lot of experimenting, including reinstalling Adobe Designer Standard 8.0, I have found that, in Adobe LiveCycle 8.0.1291.1.339988, my drag-and-dropped Document Signature Field will include a clickable orange flag ONLY IF the blank form I started with includes an E-mail button or Submit button. Strange but true. If you then delete these buttons, the orange clickable flag still appears fine.
Try it...
In Adobe Designer Standard 8.0 LiveCycle:
1. File > New.
2. Select Use a blank form, Next.
3. Next.
4. In Form Return Setup dialog box, DEselect Add an Email button and DEselect Add a print button (so that both are NOT checkmarked).
5. Click Finish.
6. Drag a Document Signature Field to the blank page.
7. Click PDF Review tab. Note that no orange clickable flag appears for the user then to be able to use for entering a digital signature.
Close the page.
Try a variation now that will work (yielding an orange clickable flag):
1. File > New.
2. Select Use a blank form, Next.
3. Next.
4. In Form Return Setup dialog box, SELECT either the Add an Email button OR the Add a print button (so that either IS checkmarked).
5. Click Finish.
6. Drag a Document Signature Field to the blank page.
7. Click PDF Review tab. Note that an orange clickable flag DOES appear this time for the user then to be able to use for entering a digital signature.
8. For further test, click the Design View tab and now DELETE the displayed button.
9. Click PDF Review. The flag is still there.
BOTTOM LINE: It at least looks like it's not just "Distribute forms" that requires that you have a button at Blank Form creation time. Also "Digital Signature" functionality requires that you display a button at Blank Form creation time -- which you can then delete.
A bug? Or do I have some major concept wrong -- maybe I'm mis-interpreting the whole Digital Signature concept and process?

Is this in the wrong forum? The problem I am having is with Acrobat's Distribution feature.

Can an Acrobat Pro DC fillable form have a submit by email button that works in all browsers?

Last time I attempted to make an online fillable pdf form the submit (to email) button wouldn't work in all browsers.

Two issues may affect the ability to successfully receive the PDF submission:
First, the built-in PDF "Viewers" lack the ability to submit PDF form and form data, viewers are not compatible with Live-Cycle XFA PDFs, and they lack Extended Reader Rights proprietary to Adobe Software. End-users will need to disable the default built-in viewer, and enable Adobe Reader as the default PDF viewer on the default browser.

Send Email Error from Viewer 10gR2

This is new standard functionality in Discoverer Viewer on AS 10gR2. From a 10gR2 Viewer worksheet, one of the action links is "Send email". It takes you to a form where you can enter your e-mail and a recipient's e-mail address. It exports the worksheet to a file on the server in the selected format (CSV, Excel, etc.) and states "export file created successfully" but then fails for me when it attempts to send the e-mail with export file attachment.
ERROR MESSAGE: "OracleBI Discoverer was unable to read the configuration file. A value is required for the following expression: mailhost.opnext.com An error occurred while handling the event. See the application log for more details."

METALINK DOC SOLUTION: Set the outgoing smtp mail server via OEM(Oracle Enterprise manager)on the 10gR2 server. Launch the OEM http://machinename.domain:181x then click the Discoverer link and then click the link Discoverer Viewer, and then Email link, Now set the SMTP Server.
We changed that setting from "mailhost.opnext.com" (whose value matched the address in the error message) to the IP address of our SMTP server. Upon retrying the action, we got the same error message with mailhost.opnext.com in the message, even though the Viewer setting was changed to an IP address of a different server.
Were not sure why Viewer is still trying to use the original value, mailhost.opnext.com, since we changed the setting.
Any ideas?

after a lot of reading on forums such as this and trying different settings and tests recommended in those forums unsuccessfully, i think i finally stumbled across an answer that worked for me and i now have my problem solved. i came across a discussion about reloading the mail software from the operating disk and or deleting accounts and starting over. i chose the easy way first and deleted my email account. at this moment i can send and receive with no problems, knock wood it will stay that way.
i ended up deleting my Verizon account from the email account list. then restarted my computer, opened mail and it asked me to set up an account. i did exactly the same things, same settings, checked the same boxes as before but this time it works and i am at a complete loss as to why but i am not going to question it any more than i already have. these kind of issues can drive a guy crazy.
i am in hopes that this simple process will help some of the many other folks who are also having problems like this get thru their send error issues as well, give it a try and see what comes from it, it seems to have solved my problems.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. "Send email" button in Captivate 5.5 quiz

I am trying to get the results of a completed Captivate 5.5 quiz emailed to me from other people's computers, after they complete the quiz. The Send email button does nothing (no error message and no email). The quiz has been published in each of: PDF, Flash and HTML and the email button does not work in any of them.
After looking at postings on several forums, it appears that the problem may be a bug in Captivate or possibly a setting that needs to be changed in Flash player. The problem is that if it is necessary to change the Flash player settings, I can't do this on another user's computer, so this will never work.
In another project, I have used the send email button in Acrobat LiveCycle and that works perfectly well (opens an email message and attaches the information from the current Acrobat file as an XML attachment) - what's the problem with Captivate?

The problem isn't Captivate. It's the whole concept of using email as a 'reliable' reporting mechanism.
You are correct that this 'feature' will not work if you're trying to use it from published content in a folder on your local drive or a LAN server unless that folder has been added as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings.
You are also correct that it would be either impossible or impractical to try and change these settings on each end user's PC. To have any chance of success, your best output format for this would be HTM/SWF/JS and you should be considering delivering the content only from a web server, not a LAN or other type of drive.
However, even if you do everything right, email reporting (as you found with LiveCycle forms) still has many limitations and should be considered unreliable. There are too many ways it can fail, and most of those ways are outside your control. Added to this is the fact that since the solution requires the user to send the email message and not change any data first, it's really NOT all that secure. You could not hope to use it for courses where serious certification was a must.
The only times I have used it successfully with Captivate required a custom-coded web page (PHP) on a web server (Apache or IIS) that was used to dynamically send the email after receiving data in an encoded URL. Basically, the Captivate module would call this web page and the page would add the data from the URL variables to build the email. However, this is NOT standard Captivate functionality. I went this route because the client's LMS was only a few weeks away and they needed a very temporary solution. I would avoid doing something similar again unless there were no other available solution.
