Epson Stylus Photo 1400 detection problem

Hi all,
I have an Intel based iMac with 27 inches display and a Macbook. They are both running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
I'm trying to install my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 printer on my iMac but having quite difficult times. I installed everything that came with the Epson installation CD. But I see the problem is beyond a driver issue because my iMac does not detect the printer at all.
When I plugged the printer to my Macbook without even installing the drivers it automatically detected that a printer is plugged in. In the case of iMac however, I even updated Epson printer drivers from Apple Software Update page but it still behaves like nothing has been plugged in to any of the USB ports. I have four ports and I tried every one them by the way. The ports themselves are OK because I have an external disk and it works in all four ports.
Have you ever came across with such an issue where iMac does not detect a plugged in USB printer.
Thank you.

  • Upgraded to Mountain Lion and CS3, I am no longer able to access the correct dialog box for fine printing with Epson Stylus Photo 1400.

I have recently upgraded my Mac OS to Mountain Lion, and am using Photoshop CS3 together with Lightroom 5. To my absolute horror, in either Adobe program I am no longer able to access the dialog box which allows me to choose paper type, size, and print quality when attempting to print on my Epson Stylus Photo 1400. An excruciating hour on the phone with largely unintelligible folks at Epson seemed to prove the problem lies with Adobe instead of Epson. I'd greatly appreciate whatever advice might be forthcoming from the Community.

Well, this seemed to work.. can't believe it! After a year of messing with this!
    from Stevejones5
"I found a way around this problem. GO to HD/Library/Printers/Epson/InkjetPrinter/ICCProfiles and you will find a file labeled Pro38.profiles. This is a package file. Control click on it and reveal contents. Then you can copy all the profiles and paste them into your Colorsync folder either in the HD/Library folder or your own Home folder/Library. Then the profiles will show up in Photoshop and Lightroom."
Key, is to Control click on the printer to "Open contents". Then open Resource folder. Copy everything in it and then paste it into the "Colorsync" folder in your Library.  (Remember, to get to Library you have to hold the command key down for it to appear in "Go" Menu for Finder.
Then I reinstalled printer driver from Apple, then rebooted computer, then plugged in printer. And VOILA-- I can now select Epson Premium Photo Paper Luster!

  • Photoshop CS3 with Epson Stylus Photo 1400 and Mac Leopard

I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 and an Epson Stylus PHOTO 1400 printer and Mac OS X 10.5.4.
When I print a photo it comes out with excessive ink which smears very easily and has lines in it. It only does it in Photoshop. When I print from any other program it comes out fine. I've seen reviews online where people have printed from Macs and photoshop onto the printer and it worked. I've already contacted Epson, but they said to contact Adobe. Does anybody have any advice?

    Forget Epson's useless tech support.
What you describe is typical of improper printer profile or usage of non-Epson paper, especially paper with gloss. Have you profiled the printer/paper and are you using Epson paper (or other paper and profiles specifically recommended here for Epson photo-quality printers) properly selected?
Like Ramón I am on 10.4.11, not 10.5.x, but I doubt if your described problem is due to the OS version.

  • /usr/libexec/cups/filter cgpdftoraster failed (Epson Stylus Photo 1400)

10.5.2 appears to have added support for my printer when it is plugged in to my airport express - before I upgraded it did not work at all, now it works almost perfectly.
However, when i try to print a book from aperture (Aperture 2.0 Trial), the printer bounces on the dock and the job says that it is working, then an error flashes up and disappears and then the status changes to "stopped".
I managed to take a screenshot in the second that the error is displayed, and it is as follows:
    "/usr/libexec/cups/filter cgpdftoraster failed"
I have not tried printing a book when the printer is directly plugged into my laptop yet, as this is the first time that I have ever tried - everything else seems to work perfectly (Printing photos / printing from Lightroom), but not printing this book.
The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 (A3+), but it does not seem to be a printer problem - as it never tries to send the file to the printer, it breaks before it gets that far.
Does anyone know why this is happening and have any suggestions about how to fix it?
    Thanks.

I concur, Aperture 2.0.1 on OS X 10.5.2 was NOT able to print to the Epson Stylus Photo 1400, and resulted in an "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/cgpdftoraster failed" message at the print driver.
Exporting the image from Aperture to Photoshop, and printing using Photoshop, printed effortlessly; I was even able to use "Super B" paper (13"x19") Sheet-Feeder Borderless with Ultra Premium Photo Paper Semi-Glossy.

  • HT1338 How do I get a driver for my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 so that it will run with Mountain LIon?  I tried "Software Update" and says "no update available"

How do I get a driver for my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 so that it will run with Mountain LIon?  I tried "Software Update" and says "no update available".  I contacted Epson and was told all driver updates had to be obtained using "Software Update"?

You will find the latest Epson drivers herehttp://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398.
If you don't find a driver for your printer in the above, then install the Gutenprint drivers. It supports your model.

  • Cannot add Epson stylus photo 1400 to printer list

    Hi,
I just unpacked my new printer, however I don't seem to be able to install it properly. I have tried both the the driver from the website as well as the one that came with it on CD. First, installing seems to go smoothly. Then I get to a screen telling me that before I can print I will have to add it to the printer list. The next screen gives me the printer list with the Epson Stylus's name on it. However, clicking on it I am not able to select the proper device name. It just doesn't appear on the list. (click here for a screenshot: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/8601/bild15zy6.png ) Finally, the Epson driver installation app tells me that my printer "has not been added to the printer list" and that I should better go back and try again. "Running a printer check" actually makes it draw paper in but doesn't print anyhow.
Could someone help me with this?
    Thanks a lot.

I now managed to install my printer. To state my problem first, so people don't have to read the whole thread again:
My printer (this should be printer model independent) is connected directly via USB to my macbook. When I tried to add it to my printer list, I recieved the message "Error: -9672, An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer"
As I gathered from the forums, this points to missing rights during installation. In a lucky guess, I logged onto my computer not with my usual account but with the admin account and from there I could install it without any problems!
That is a bit strange as I should have been able to assign admin rights via entering the password from my usual account, but there you go. Strange are the ways of Apple (as with my most favourite mac problem/solution of all times: when you use the password reset feature from the install DVD, it uses an english keyboard layout, but in the standard log-in window it uses whatever the locale is set to, thus e.g. mixing z und y in German layout amongst others. This small misunderstanding cost me hours over christmas! Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone has similar trouble)
    I hope this helps,
    Otto

  • Epson stylus Photo 1400

Hi. I just replace my espon 1280 to 1400, running Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Original printing driver was working fine for about 10 pages of printing, then this morning, when I hit print, it shows up in Que., then 10 sec. later or so, disappeared, and show up in complete job without printing.
I just downloaded epson 13964 dmg software from epson site, and re-install it again, as well as re-started computer and printer.
    still not working.
Does anyone have same issue and know any way to fix this issue? Thank you.

Hi. I just successfully printed a page of word document from MS word software. The problem I had listed below was from INDD running CS4.
    Thank you!

  • Epson Stylus Photo 1400 profiles missing after Snow Leopard!

After installing Snow Leopard, I am no longer able to see the color profiles for my Epson 1400 printer in Adobe InDesign CS3 or Illustrator CS3. They do show up in Photoshop CS3 as well as Apple's Mail.app and Safari. But, they are most needed for the Adobe print programs.
I found another post that explained how to open an Epson package and copy the files to the ColorSync folder. This did not help; but, I was able to copy the profiles to the Adobe Color folder. Now they show up in InDesign. Haven't tried printing, yet, to see if they work properly. That's next. But, Apple and Adobe and Epson should fix this so others do not have this problem.

I've just upgraded from Leopard to SL on my 24in iMac.
I have an Epson SP R800 and an Epson SP 1400. Using Epson drivers for SL the 800 printer runs several blank sheets through before printing the first page. The colours are terrible. I use Adobe CS3 suite (final output in inDesign) for my brochures and can no longer print them to any decent quality.
With 1400 I just get an error mesage. I've tried the Gutenpress (or whatever it's called) alternative and while the 1400 prints with it the quality is atrocious. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the printers, resetting the lot and adding again, and no difference. I wish I had never switched from Leopard to be honest. SL may be slick (can't see any obvious benefits myself), but they could have developed it so that expensive printers still worked properly.
It also will not support Filemaker 8.5 Pro or Word 2004 - why not? A very unsatisfactory development all round that has offered no benefit that I can see at all.
If I reinstall Leopard and chuck SL in the bin would that be the best solution?

  • PSE 6 Crashes when trying to print to Epson Stylus Photo 1400

Has anyone had an issue with PSE 6 crashing when trying to print a single photo from the Organizer?  I have tried to print photos directly from the Organizer and each time I do, the application crashes.  I can open the photo in the editor and print directly from the editor with no problems.  It's not the printer becuase I can print from other applications to the printer.  I can also print to my HP PSC 2355 with no issues. but for some reason, I cannot get the Organizer application to print to the Epson.  I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it.  I have checked to see if there are any updated drivers - there are none.  I'm running PSE 6 on Windows Vista 32-bit.  Any suggestions what else I can try?  I hate that I cannot print to my new printer!

Try deselecting the print options "EXIF Print" and "Print Image Matching".   Unfortunately, the Search function of the new forums doesn't work yet for older messages, but I did find this thread cached by Google referring to a similar problem:

  • Epson Stylus Photo 1400 not working on 10.6.5

I've done just about everything I've found online and both epson and apple are in denial of this situation. I'd been on the phone with apple to almost two hours and in the end they tell me that it's probably epson's drivers and that I need to contact them. Another 2 hours with epson pretty much saying I needed to contact apple.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Whenever I print using word/photoshop or any other apps, I get nothing. My printer icon doesnt ever come up on the dock. Even when I open it manually I see that they werent added to my queue. If I try to print with Preview App, it tells me "Error While Printing"
I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, remove and re added printer, I've checked and repaired disk permissions. What gives? Is it 10.6.5 causing this?

  • Epson stylus photo r2880 printer problem

I changed the settings for printing color prints and now I can't correct what I've done.  I was getting dark prints and so I figured I'd try a different setting... between "Printer manages colors" and "Photoshop manages colors".  I've completely mucked things up so now I'm getting really dark prints with very little magenta and cyan.  I'd like to return to what I had as I'm on a deadline but, I can't remember what the original setting were.  Relative Colorimetric or Absolute?  Was Black Point Compensation checked? Was 16 bit/channel checked?  I'm so confused and I have prints that clients need.  Thanks in advance for any HELP!  Gregory

  • Epson Printer Driver Update 2.18 and Stylus Photo 1400

My Mac Mini was unable to communicate with my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 printer, after installing the recent Epson Printer Driver Update 2.18. I am running Mac OS 10.7.5. Reinstalling the original driver from the Epson CD got me back on track, but, a test print from the installer did not work without additional software from Apple's servers. Avoid Update 2.18, if you are using similar equipment.

Since updating to EPSON Printer Software Update 2.18, I have not been able to print to my EPSON Stylus DX6000 (under OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard).  The printer dialog box says
    Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/ MacOs/rastertoescpll failed
Using Time Machine, I restored rastertoescpll.app from a time before I upgraded to the 2.18 drivers, but that didn't work.  I then restored the entire EPSON folder from
    /Library/Printers/
from a time before I upgraded to the 2.18 drivers, and that still didn't work.
I was not able to find the Update 2.17 on the Apple site, but I was able to find it on the www.techspot.com site.
I downloaded EPSON Printer Software Update 2.17 from
    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16158/
    This downloaded EPSONPrinterDrivers2.17.dmg
I dragged the EPSON folder to the Trash, and emptied the Trash.  I then ran the installer for the 2.17 drivers.  After switching the printer off and on again, I was finally able to print.

  • Photoshop CS3 - Epson Stylus Photo R3000 Color Management Problem

I just purchased an Epson Stylus Photo R3000 to replace my R1800 which finally had print head clogs which could not be fixed. I had some christmas photos that I wanted to print and when I attempt to print one particular image I am getting inconsistent and incorrect results. When I print from Photoshop using Photoshop Manages Colors and selecting SPR3000 Premium Glossy to print on my Epson glossy paper the image comes out much too dark. If I print the same image from Aperture using Aperture manages colors and the same profile the print is lighter and closer to my calibrated monitor but a blue shirt is still too purple. To get the print correct I must use "Printer manages color", use Colorsync in the printer and select the SPR3000 Premium Glossy profile.
I downloaded the PDI_Target_AdobeRGP image from George Ballard's website and printed it both with photoshop managing colors and printer manages colors. The two images are close but the photoshop manages color printing method results in a print which is a little too dark while the printer manages color selection is almost perfect.
I have never had this problem before and have always head excellent results using Photoshop Manages Color. I suspect that perhaps the profile supplied by Epson has a problem.
I am using OSX 10.8.2, Mountain Lion. My monitor is recently calibrated using a Spyder 3.
Does anyone have suggestions regarding fixing or diagnosing this problem?

I take it you are seeing "Photoshop Manages Color" in the print dialog box?  Epson drivers are pretty good, so I'm not surprised you are getting somewhat better results with "Printer Manages Color".  The key is to apply the RGB and CMYK profiles used in Photoshop in the driver dialogs.  For instance, if you've set the RGB work space in Photoshop for Adobe RGB, then ( I would ) use the same profile in the driver.  Some images perform well in sRGB; but I typically stay away from sRGB because of its limited color gamut.  I've used "Colorsync" in the print dialogs, but there are several other options you can try to get closer.  The Blues and Reds you see on screen will sometimes not be able to be printed with certain printers because of their limitations.  However, you've said you didn't have problems before and now with this new printer you are seeing new problems.  Try contacting Ballard again and see if he has any recommendations.  He might even be able to calibrate that printer for you.  Or, try a third party calibration service like ColorHQ.com.  If you apply an RGB profile in Photoshop, like the Adobe RGB profile, then you are somewhat having Photoshop manage color in the application.  By selecting "Let Printer Manage Color" in the print dialog, you are telling the driver to honor the color coming out of Photoshop and you can confirm that by selecting Adobe RGB in the print dialogs.  I would experiment with all of the RGB profiles ( Colormatch, ProPhoto, Adobe RGB, and sRGB ) to see which one performs the best using the print driver.

  • Problem using Print CD on Epson Stylus Photo RX700

I recently installed OS 10.5.1 (leopard) on my iMac (intel core duo) and my Epson Stylus Photo RX700 all-in-one printer appears to be working okay, except when I try to use the Print CD application, I get a message "Epson printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed". I tried downloading updates from the epson.com site ( 1- Epson Easy Print v3.1bA for intel, 2- TWAIN Driver & Epson Scan Utility v3.02A, 3- Printer Driver v3.0aAS), but I still get the same message. Any suggestions? -Don

You need to add the Epson drivers from the OS X Install disk. Below is what Epson sent me. Note that when you re-add the Printers, there no longer is a Printer Set Up Utility, go into Preferences > Print & Fax and do it from there. Worked for me. Good Luck.
    REMOVE FILES
    1.  Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
    2.  Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
    3.  Double click on the PRINTERS folder.
    4.  Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can.
    5.  Close any open windows.
    6.  Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
    7.  Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
    8.  Double click on the RECEIPTS folder.
    9.  Delete any EPSON receipts.
    10. Close all open windows and restart your computer.
    REINSTALL THE EPSON DRIVER PACKAGE
    1. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install disc. Open CD when it appears on the
    desktop.
    2. Find and double-click on the Optional Installs.mpkg.
    3. After the installer opens, choose the following custom install options:
-Check PRINTER DRIVERS and use arrow next to this entry to expand this
    category.
-Check EPSON below the PRINTER DRIVERS heading. (You do not need to
    install other manufacturer's packages.)
    4. Click INSTALL (or UPGRADE) and follow prompts to reinstall the resident
Epson printer driver package. Remove the OS CD and then restart the
    computer after installation is complete.
    READD THE PRINTER
    1. Go into HD > Applications > Utilities and open the Printer Setup
Utility. The PRINTER LIST window appears.
    2. Highlight and delete any existing references to your Epson printer. (If
you want to be thorough and do not have any other printers on the Mac,
choose PRINTER SETUP UTILITY from the top of the screen and RESET PRINTING
SYSTEM. Confirm resetting the system. This clears any existing printer
entries and queues. If you have other printers on the Mac and use this
reset, you will need to readd them later.)
    3. Turn the printer OFF and back ON to make the Mac redetect it and add it
to the list automatically. (Do not change the PRINT USING field. Selecting
EPSON here would add a GIMP Print driver which does not support all of the
functions of the resident Epson driver. Epson does not support or recommend
    these third party drivers.)
    4. If you have other printers on the list, make the Epson entry the
    default.
    5. Close the Printer Setup Utility and try a test print from any OS X-based
    application.
*NOTE: If the printer does not show up on the list, it may mean a lack of
detection. Ensure the printer is online (no red error lights) and connected
directly to the Mac. Try moving the cable end to other USB ports, if need
be. If you have not done so already, you can also try resetting the Printer
    Setup Utility, as described above.
If you are working with a printer model which supports borderless and/or
roll paper printing options, you will be able to select these options in
the program you are printing from as you set up your print job.
    1. Once you have an image or file open, go to File > Page Setup.
    2. For FORMAT FOR select the Epson printer name (rather than ANY PRINTER)
    3. Select the appropriate Paper Size. If your printer supports different
layout features, each paper size will have several different options. For
example, the 4x6 paper size will have an arrow pointing right which offers
choices of 4x6 Borderless, 4x6 Standard-Minimize Margins, etc. Pick the
paper type plus layout/margin option you want to use here.
    4. Click OK on Page Setup. You are now ready to print.
