ESS: ECC 5 and Portal 7.0

Hi!
Righ now for the Employee and Manager Self Services Scenario we have the following landscape installed:
- SAP ERP Central Component 5.0
     SAP_BASIS     640     0013
     SAP_HR          500     0020
     EA-HR          500     0020
- SAP Enterprise Portal 7.00 (Netweaver 2004s) Stack 08
- ESS Business Package for ERP 2004 60.2 SP0 (deployed in the SAP Enterprise Portal 7.00)
- MSS Business Package for ERP 2004 60.1 SP1 (deployed in the SAP Enterprise Portal 7.00)
The installed XSS components are:
- SAPPCUI_GP 100 SP11 (deployed in the SAP Enterprise Portal 7.00)
- SAP_ESS 100 SP11 (deployed in the SAP Enterprise Portal 7.00)
- SAP_MSS 100 SP11 (deployed in the SAP Enterprise Portal 7.00)
In this landscape I have found some problems like the exception "com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Exit-Plug must no be triggered with an URL when running in portal. Use portal navigation instead to navigate to another application!" when we use the "Return to Overview Page" link after changing personal information.
For the investigation that I have made this XSS components should have been deployed in a WAS Java 6.40.
So the options now are:
- 1) install a java add-in for the ECC and deploy on it the XSS components
- 2) install a java stand-alone exclusively for this XSS components
- 3) install an Enterprise Portal 6.40 and deploy the Business Packages and XSS components on it
- 4) leave this as it is.
For the option 4) can you tell us what are the know restrictions for the use of the XSS components in 7.0 Java? Is the above error just the only problem for this landscape?
For option 2) The same XSS componentes on WAS Java can be used for both development and quality systems? Or there is a need to have distinct XSS components for each (development and quality) backend system?
Just another question for option 3), in this scenario the portal where the Business Packages will be installed can be used for development and quality systems? Or there is a need to have distinct Business Packages for each (development and quality) backend system?
Many thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Pedro

Hi, Pedro.
I Have the same problem, could you help me, i have portal 7.0 and ecc 5.0, xss components 100, but in this moment i don´t know what solution could be implemented in the enterprise.
Is necesary that i have to install a web as 6.40 and install in this server the xss components, or there are other solution, maybe a patch  or a note.
Thanks so much.
Regards.

  • Error while testing ECC and Portal-Connect to SAP gateway failed

    Dear Experts,
While testing ABAP connection in Portal i am getting below error.

    Dear All,
My error is rectified with below thread.
SLDCHECK: Error when opening an RFC connection (CPIC-CALL: 'ThSAPOCMIT'...
    Hi,
You need to create an RFC to the SLDCHECK:
    1. In your web browser, enter the URL of SAP NetWeaver Administrator using the following pattern:
    http://<host>:<port>/nwa
    2. Choose Configuration Management u2192 Infrastructure u2192 Jco RFC Provider.
    3. Choose Create.
    4. Enter the connection and transport parameters as required.
    Field
    Description
    Program ID
We recommend that you use the following pattern: SLDAPI_<SAPSID>, where SAPSID is the system identifier of the AS Java system.
    Gateway host
    Gateway service
If your AS Java is an add-on installation to an ABAP system, use the gateway of the ABAP system. You can look up the gateway parameters of an ABAP system using transaction SMGW.
If your AS Java is a standalone installation, we recommend using a gateway on the Central Services Instance host. As of SAP NetWeaver 7.1, usage type AS Java that comprises SLD also contains an SAP RFC Gateway.
    Server Count (1..20)
    Enter 3.
    5. Choose Next.
    6. Enter logon data to the ABAP repository. You can either use an existing RFC destination from SAP NetWeaver Administrator u2192 Configuration Management u2192 Security u2192 Destinations or you specify the ABAP repository explicitly. The destination should point preferably to an AS ABAP close to SLD. If SLD is running on an AS Java standalone installation, the calling AS ABAP can be used instead. We recommend to create and use an RFC destination instead of explicitly specifying the connect parameters here. In both cases, the following parameters are required
    Field
    Description
    System Landscape Directory 15
    User Manual 03.04.2008
    Application Server Host
    System Number
    Client
    Language
    User
    Password
Enter the logon data for the AS ABAP system. You must specify an existing user with appropriate authorizations for RFC.
If you are running a system with both usage types AS ABAP and AS Java, use the logon data for this system.
If your AS Java is a standalone installation, use the logon data for the calling ABAP system.
    7. Choose Next.
    8. Leave the default values in the next steps.
    9. Create the Jco RFC destination by choosing Finish.
    Result
The Jco RFC destination creates a number of u201CServer Countu201D RFC server threads on your AS Java. These RFC servers register at the RFC Gateway specified. You may configure multiple ABAP systems to connect to these RFC servers. In this case, the Server Count should be increased when TIME_OUT exceptions are observed.
Creating an RFC Destination for the SLD ABAP API on the AS ABAP Side
    Use
If you want to configure an ABAP application to access data in the SLD through the SLD ABAP API, you have to create an RFC destination on the ABAP system side.
    Prerequisites
An RFC destination for the SLD ABAP API is created on the AS Java side.
    Procedure
    1. Call transaction SM59.
    2. Select TCP/IP connections and choose Create.
    3. In the RFC Destination field, enter SAPSLDAPI.
    4. On the Technical Settings tab page, select the Registered Server Program indicator.
    5. In the Program ID field, enter the same program ID as the one you entered when you created an RFC destination for the SLD ABAP API on the AS Java side. We recommend that you use the following pattern: SLDAPI_<SAPSID>, where SAPSID is the system identifier of the AS Java system.
    6. Choose MDMP & Unicode and select the Unicode indicator.
    7. Choose Save.
    8. Test the RFC destination by choosing Connection Test.
If the display shows the response times, you have configured the RFC destination correctly.

  • NetWeaver Portal and ERP 6.0: BI, ESS/MSS and full Portal on one machine

    Hello,
with ERP 6.0 you need a EP Core Portal for BI Java. An other EP Core Portal for HCM ECC/MSS. The iViews from this portal you integrate in the main portal via federated portal. But in this scenario i need to much portals and have a lot of maintenance costs (administration overhead for evry portal). For a small Customer i will build one Portal for all. It is possible e.g. to use the BI Portal with ESS/MSS and as full portal?
    Best regards,
    Patrick

    Hi,
So you would like one BI installation with both the ABAP and the Java-stack with the full BI-functionallity and additionally the XSS-component and set it up to work against the ECC ABAP-only system ?
I think the scenario would actually work, but:
    1) You might get future problems if you want to upgrade your BI-system and not the ECC-system.
Is it possible to run the old XSS-components in the new java-stack ?
    2) You might get future problems if you want to upgrade your ECC-system and not the BI-system.
What if the new version of the XSS-component demands certain java-components which the BI-system do not have.
So my recommendation is still to run the java-stack on both systems.
ECC with the XSS-java-components and BI with the Bi-java-components.
This way you do not lock yourself into a corner and each system can be upgrade independent of the other.

  • System Users - SAPJSF and  JCO  ESS 6.0 Portal

    Hi All,
in regards to ESS 6.0 Portal .  Would someone be able to explain
the different functions of the users:   ESS user account ( employee)  , SAPJSF communication user, and the JCO user ( for metadata ?)
Wondering how the SAPJSF user account is actioned when an ESS
employee account is being used. Thank You !

    SAPJSF

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/4e/225b42eeb66255e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
    jCO User
The "metadata" JCO is the way the webdynpro connects to the backend (ECC for example) at a systems level (ie. the program itself talks to SAP as a system user in order to communicate with BAPIs/RFCs/etc to pull metadata information. The "user" defined for that connection will be a "system user" type userid (like your "RFC user" kinda thing). The other JCO connection is the "stream" used for the actual end user to communicate with the WebDynpro and the backend system. That connection will have the authoriations for that user checked. Make sense?
So in other words....one connection is for the program to talk to the backend...the other is for the end user to talk to the backend THROUGH the program.

  • System refresh of only ECC and not Portal and PI in MCOD

    Hello,
Our QA landscape has ECC, Portal and PI installed in separate servers, but belong to the same MCOD DB. Its the same in Production too.
Now we want to refresh just the ECC in QA from ECC in Production. We don't want anything to change in the PI and Portal QA?
    How can we do this?
    Cheers
    Ajay

    > For info sake, from your experience how long does the export of a 500gb database take in sapinst?
SAP migrated their HR system (of several TB) on a weekend, however, this was highly tuned with lots of test runs in front. I can't say how long it takes, you have to do a run to see and to optimize.
    > Usually in a db refresh, when i create the controlfiles, I replace the source <sid> with the the target <sid> in the control_file.sql (that I get from the trace in source system). After a DB refresh I just recreate the sapdba role, recreate the ops$ user for the specific target SID. Is it any different in case of MCOD?
This procedure does not work as soon as Java comes into place. If you copy a system with Java you must use sapinst. Java stores tons of information not in the database (as ABAP) but on the filesystem. Some of the information is synced on startup, some of them are only read on the filesystem.
Especially in case of a PI (which itself is very complex) this does not work.
In any case you would need to (after the full DB copy)
    - run sapinst on your QA system to "save" your current state (sapinst Java export for the EP and sapinst Java + ABAP (R3load) export for the PI)
    - uninstall PI and EP on the target system
    - reinstall EP and PI by using the export you did
    but
if you'd do it that way and you have then only a database with your ERP and you reinstall the other two systems anyway I would not do MCOD but two new database installations (so separate the instances).
There is no other way of doing that copy and preserving the other system in an MCOD case, that's one reason why MCOD is no more recommended.

    1.     Activated FIN_TRAVEL_1 and FIN_TRAVEL_2 business functions.
    2.     checked FITV_TRIP_FORM service in SICF /sap/bc/webdynpro/sap its active .
    3.     Currently we are SAP ESS 6.0 EHP 4 , and accordingly we have down loaded
uwl_com.sap.pct.erp.mss.tra.14.zip , (for SAP ECC 6.0, Enhancement Package 4) [Note 1076144 - ESS trips and   expenses: Migration from WD Java to WD ABAP]
file as suggested in Migration from WD Java to WD ABAP in ESS Trips and Expenses user guide
    4.     after uploading uwl_com.sap.pct.erp.mss.tra.14.zip file in SAP NetWeaver Portal -> System Administration  -> System Configuration -> Universal Worklist->& Workflow -> Universal Worklist Administration.-> Object Types and View Definitions ->  com.sap.pct.erp.mss.tra.
    5.     after uploading file, when manager click up on u201Ccheck trip of ABCu201D workitem in his uwl , he is getting following error.
    404   Not Found
    SAP J2EE Engine/7.01
The requested resource does not exist.
Details:   Go to main page of this application!
Any idea for fixing this issue.

    hi
in the java system , the portal will launch the approval frm the same system , for the abap component , the task type in uwl you might have to define a dynamic property as "System" and give the name of your r/3 system in there.
    Try it

  • Adobe forms and portal

we are using adobe forms to open and print appraisals in ess. When we click on print appraisal, adobe does not open up, i have checked connections and they look fine. We get a time out error and it looks like it is pointing to the web dispatcher OFCOMTOLS026_EWX_01
the server is ofcomtols026, EWX is the dispatcher, should the portal be pointing to this in the ERP system, where is this setup to point to this?
    Any help would be great

    Subha:
Your PDFs can be generated in ADS on Portal or ECC systems. From what you describe it looks like in your case it is ADS on ECC and there is a web dispatcher, doing load balancing of HTTP connects for ECC J2EE engine. In this case web dispatcher is a correct destination.
    My recommendation for the troubleshooting:
    1. Make sure ADS forms generated OK by accessing one of the ECC app servers directly. If Adobe form is not generated, check ADS settings. Here is a nice doc:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f03414f8-d4ce-2a10-d4b6-ab201b329d98
    2. Once Adobe Form is verified, check access via Web Dispatcher. It is possible that its permission table does not allow ADS urls.
    Jaya:
You should not be able to connect the portal to a webdispatcher. Only browsers talk via webdispatcher.
I am sorry, but this is not true. Web dispatcher can route pretty much any TCP/IP protocol. In most cases it is used for routing HTTP/S (not only for browsers), but it can transfer a binary format as well. One time I even used web dispatcher to do port forwarding for Microsoft WTS.

  • Deploy ESS Customisations in Portal

    Hi All,
A little bit of background on my problem:
We had ESS/MSS business packages deployed in our portal landscape couple of years ago(nearly 4 years ago).
Now we had a requirement to customise one of the ESS component. We set up the NWDI, created track, imported DC, made the modifications, deployed to a local server, tested successfully.
Now we need to move our code to the rest of the environments in our landscape.
Im aware that we have the option to set up runtime systems, connect to CTS+ and it does the job......but my concern is that this approach is risky as we would deploy the whole ESS component and eventually it might break something.
We are happy to deploy just the changes as we do in direct deployment from NWDS.
Is there any other option to do this?
    Regards,
    J

Another option is CM Services with an activity based SDA transport.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/8b/17dc0982fb4584b10ac4ab49a75fa0/content.htm

Given the complicated nature of ESS, it probably is better to deploy the whole thing.

  • ESS error in portal

    Hi,
I get below error message when i click Employee Self-Service in portal.
"A critical error has occurred. Processing of the service needs to close. Unsaved data has been lost.
    Contact your system administrator.
Area group ZSAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005 does not exist."
I get this error message for languages other than English.
Could you please guide me what i need to check to correct the above error.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Avadh,
Thanks for your guidance regarding ESS error in portal.
We found that the language entry for which we got error, was missing in production.
We added the language entry in table T7XSSSERARGBT and transported it to production.
But now we are getting an exception message as shown below.
"com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: ComponentUsage(FPMConfigurationUsage): Active component must exist when getting interface controller. (Hint: Have you forgotten to create it with createComponent()? Should the lifecycle control of the component usage be "createOnDemand"?"
I do not feel this error might be due to our transport in production.
So, please guide us what can be the reason for this exception.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • ESS, mySAPERP 2005, Portal, Installation, Architecture

Hello, I have a question about ESS, mySAPERP 2005 and Portal. We installed on one server a mySAP ERP 2005 (only AS-ABAP) and on a second server a Portal (with AS-JAVA, XSS, EP...). Some guys told me, that I have further to install a Java-Addin on th mySAPERP 2005 Server for the ESS-Deployment. Is that true? In my opinon the whole deployment could be done in the Portal.
    Regards,
    Alexander Türk

    Hi Alexander
Basically the JAVA Add in installation is used for XI.
not sure but support only unicode installation.
if u have enough resources than u can plan for new J2EE server for ESS. (Separate Java installation)
but u also use ESS deploy  on portal server with higher hardware resource.(memory RAM) and fine tune the server
    so performance is best.
this all about company policy. so u decide what ever u want to use.
    regards,
    kaushal

  • What are the ESS career and job bsps to activate?

    hi all.
we have been asked to look at implementing the career and job iviews from ESS 100 (we have ecc 6.0 backend).
i read the step by step document i found here but from what i read about bsps, they have to be activated.  but i did not find any info in the docs that tell me what the bsp services are that i need to activate.
can anyone tell me what they are, please?  also what the procedure is to acticate?  i really appreciate it.
    thx,
    mike

    Hi Mike,
I don't have any idea about which BSP applications have to be activated for ESS career and jobs but I can tell you the procedure to activate.
Goto transaction SICF, follow the path default_host/sap/bc/bsp/sap. Right click the service and choose activate service.
