Estimating size of Settings Storage Path

Hi,
Can anyone advise what kind of size i should allow for the SettingsPackages folder? (Settings Storage Path location) I'm going to allow UE-V create this on the User's Home folder but as we enforce quota's I'm curious to know what we should allow for
this to cater for now and in the future?

That's a good question. I just ran some PowerShell to get the average size of our users SettingsStoragePath and see that our average size is 34MB. Take that as you will. And that is with orphaned files. See below.
We have 64 templates loaded for our users, most of these are the out of the box Microsoft templates.
Take a look at this thread for something to look out for. Ue-V will orphan some files that can be periodically cleaned up.

Cant Uninstall UE-V 2.1 if Settings Storage Path not set

I'm currently testing UE-V and am configuring it so that Settings Storage gets stored in users home directory, rather than dumped in a single share. I have to add "SettingsStoragePathReg=TRUE " into the installation
command in order for the install to work, as UE-V 2.1 requires a SettingsStoragePath to be set. This works just fine and UE-V installs and functions as expected.
The problem comes when I try and uninstall it - I get an error message saying "The SettingStoragePath must be specified" This has to be a bug? - considering I'm trying to remove it. I can set the reg key manually and then uninstall it, but that
is not practical for when the time comes I want to update (and have to remove) the software on client machines.
Has anyone else come across this and if so, what did you do in order to uninstall it without having to manually add a reg key?

I ended up logging a call with MS and was told in no uncertain terms that it was a bug and would get fixed in the next release. For the time being the property that you set during install "SettingsStoragePathReg=TRUE" also need to be specified
when its uninstalled as-well - then it will remove. It doesn't matter if its set to TRUE or FALSE, it just needs to be set.
So, to uninstall i needed to specify this command: msiexec.exe /x AgentSetupx64.msi acceptlicenseterms=true SettingsStoragePathReg=TRUE /quiet /norestart
It cant be uninstalled from control panel, unless you manually add in the SettingsStoragePath Key. I have also been told that in the next version they are going to remove the need to define the licence terms and storagepathreg properties in
the uninstall command.

Estimating size of table

I would like to estimate the size of the following table:
Create table x(
col1 number(12),
col2 blob)
tablespace foo pctfree 40 pctused 10;
This is for a 10g instance. Tablespace block size is 8K. What is the storage for the number(12) column? I can get an estimate of the estimated size of each blob. Also, what is the header overhead for a row?

If the BLOB is less than 4k it will be stored inrow. If it's more than 4k it will be stored elsewhere. Whatever, the overhead of the ID column, the block headers, etc is going to be miniscule compared to the space required by the blob. You'll absorb it in the rounding errors of your blob estimations.

Change grid size together with the paths sticking to it

Hi! This is my first question in the Adobe forums!
I have made a simple score in my own music notation with the help of the grid in AI CS7. However, I set the wrong page size and now I have to everything over again. My question is: Can I fit thwe whole thing on an art board with a smaller size along with the grid? I want to keep everything but the size of the art board. So how do I change the grid ALONG with the objects and lines that are "stuck" to it? I hope my question is clear. Let me know if it isnt and I will clarify.

I think I fixed it. I will try later today to set the grid size the same as the width of the page and subdivide it this way. It would solve it if I could SET the artboard width to be anything: 1cm, 30cm, 100000 cm without changing the size of it.

As mentioned, the grid is a rather fluid thing, if it is the one I presume so you cannot rely on it for alignment and the like.

Estimating Size of backup Items taking considerable amount of time?

The part of the Azure Online Backup that does the "estimating size of back items" is taking hours to complete. Is there anyway to speed it up? I want to be backing up files right away, not have to wait for an estimate of size.

the message might be little misleading but as part of estimating size of the backup items, we enumerate what all files and directories need to be backed up based on whether they changed from last backup and then start backing them up. if you have huge amount
of files and directories say like a build server then its likely you will be seeing this. We already have a feature request to improve this for such kind of workloads.

Instance Settings: Wallet path and wallet password

What is the purpose of the wallet settings in the instance settings for apex if you are using the modplsql instead of the XDB http server. Do you still need to set the wallet if you are doing ssl and the oracle app server with modplsql.

Am I understanding correctly that if I select "Replace the default Microsoft template" in my GPO that ONLY my custom templates will be used? This means that, for instance, the IE settings that are available out of the

It will use all of the templates in the settings template catalog only. The local copies that are installed by the agent will be deleted. This setting must be used with the configuration setting parameter ‘RegisterMSTemplates’ set to true. Please see the
section titled ‘Replace the inbox Microsoft Templates’ in the TechNet article ‘Planning for Custom Template Deployment for Desktop Applications in UE-V 2.0’.
If that's the case how do I use a template such as this one from the template gallery that says, "To use it just delete or move the original DesktopSettings.xml from your Location Template store and copy EnhancedWorkSpace.xml
to the store location."
The creator of that template states that ‘I just mentioned to disable the DesktopSettings.xml template because my template already includes the Default values from that template.’

When you install the agent on a client, the default templates are stored in the
install\templates directory. The default is c:\program files\Microsoft User Experience Virtualization\Templates. You can copy these to the settings template catalog location to use them even with the above settings. Note: Once you
set the GP to replace the default Microsoft templates, the default templates on the clients are deleted. If you have this setting turned on, you may need to install to a machine that is not governed by this GP setting in order to get the default templates.

Ridiculous. iPod full (3rd of estimated size)

I own a 4th Gen iPod 20gb which is supposed to hold up to 10,000 songs. My iPod is only currently holding 14.70 gb but has only 3,262 sons on it, this barely equates to the estimated size that was advertised. I have nothing else on my iPod, just the songs, not even do i have coverart, ratings or playlists. just the songs. I have attempted to restore my iPod, nothing happens.
Why is my iPod so full with only a small amount of songs, this is very frustrating as I'm constantly filling my iPod up. I've been ripped off and I'm annoyed.
What can i do?

What I have found is that in windows explorer my iPOD
show up as a removeable drive. Besides my Music
(20.6\gb) folder it shows that I have another hidden
folder called iPod_control. Inside this folder is
another music folder containing 30.1gb of music.
No wonder I have no space left. How do I fix this

That music folder inside the iPod_control folder is where your songs actually are. Those are the songs that the iPod actually sees. If you copied the music over manually using Explorer or something, well, it won't see those.
You can start fresh by using the iPod Updater tool to Restore the iPod. This will erase it, and let you copy over the music properly using iTunes.

Auto Storage Path Issue

I have attempted to do some reorg/relocate (to overcome the 2TB limit of Windows file-system) my database files and ended up with the situation below:

I will be able to use relocatedb tool to move containers around. And will end up with the intended storage paths (shown above). But the main concern I have is that DB2 will have 2 entries of each storage path pointing to the same path (see below).

- is it ok to leave them as is?
- if I leave it as is would it have any effect on the database when it eventually auto extend a tablespace?
- do I need to remove the dupplicate? if yes, how?

It created 2 containers on the same storage path since it has two entries.
In v9.7 when i execute " alter database drop storage on <path1>" will it delete only one entry
in the storage path lists? I have not done this so do not know the outcome.

I have a sricpt called "findlarge" to find large file existed in the FS.
When I have run this script give me only the size as below:

: 243M
: 230M
: 203M
I want size with the directory path.
Am I missing some thing?
Some thing like below:

DThis is a bit of a brute force method ....
Try changing

If that fails try $7, $6 ....

MF8580 prints two pages, then gives paper size and settings mismatch error. Help!

Hello, I have been dealing with this problem for weeks now. When i called support, they told me it was my computer, that it was "running slow" and that i need to pay for their service - that fixing errors in my registry would fix the problem. However, i have my own registry cleaner and that isnt the problem. Every time i print something, the printer will print the first two pages, and then beep, giving me the error "paper size and settings mismatch Drawer 1" - I have everything set to letter - in the driver, on the printer, etc. I do nto understand why it prints two pages and then tells me there is a mismatch. If i open and close the drawer, it will print the second page again and then the third page, and give me the same error again. rinse and repeat. This also happens when multiple documents are spooled. I send three - one page documents, it will print the first and second, give me the error, i open and close the paper drawer 1, then it prints document two and three - then gives me the same error - i open and reclose and it prints the thrid document... I am just baffeled.

You can't upload, you'll have to post on a public link (dropbox, google, etc and share). I'm assuming this is on a host target, Metric & Collection Settings -> Other Collected Items? What is the collection time, what are you wanting to change, and what version are you running?

HTML app-storage path iframe targeting question

In my HTML/Javascript app, I'm displaying html content that
lives in my app-storage area in an iframe. I assign the src to the
iframe dynamically in javascript. This works on the mac, but when I
view in Windows, the iframe is empty.
Here is how I create the src path:

I tried changing the src path to use .url instead of .native
path, like this

I moved my entire iPhoto Library to an external hard drive, which seems to have worked. But now my Mac Pro shows a backup of the same size in the storage info and has not freed up any space. help!

I moved my entire Iphoto Library from my Macbook Pro to an external hard drive. (Prior to this, I also copied the entire library to a different ehd, plus I have 2 other ehdrives with backups). I was trying to get more space on my hd. It has a capacity of 500GB, but was down to 70GB usable, with about 300GB used up by photos. I moved the library by going to Finder, using Command+Drag+Drop onto the new Seagate ext hard drive icon. The move seems to have worked, as the library shows up on the ehd, plus will open from there. My problem is that now my Macbook Pro shows that I STILL have only 70GB available out of the 500, and that 300GB is used up by "Backups", which it did not indicate before.
I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?

You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots. Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.

You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library. Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

Preview size & quality settings

Although I have been using LR for many months I am still confused as to what to set my import settings to when it comes to previews. Standard or 1:1? What quality settings? Can anyone enlighten me on best practices?

Standard Size previews are of your choosing: 1024, 1440, 1680 and 2048. You set these in the catalog settings "File Handling" tab. Also, you can set the quality to Low, Medium or High. You could also think of the Standard Size as that which most closely matches you screen size.
1:1 Previews are previews that match the dimensions of the image and are generally much larger than the Standard Size previews. e.g. from a 10MP Nikon D200 the size is 3872*2592.
The implications of your choices are as follows:
- The larger the preview size that you choose, the slower the import
- Larger previews take more disc space in your .lrdata folder, specifically the thumbnail-cache file.
If you are going to import a large number of photos, that you may later cull prior to doing any develop work, then you could choose Standard Size previews, with a low (1440) pixel size, Medium Quality. Import should then be fast. After you have eliminated photos that you do not wish to keep, you could use the Library ->Previews -> Render 1:1 Preview, if you wish to generate full-size previews of the selected pictures. Again, this may take a significant amount of time, depending on how many photos you select.
When you go to Develop module, Lightroom will automatically generate a 1:1 preview of the selected photo. So if you are not concerned about a slight delay while Lighroom generates 1:1 preview in Develop module, you could stay with Standard Size previews for import.

Itunes Library Size / Unlimited Online Storage

- I have a question regarding Itunes library size.
I have a couple of movies, some music and even TV series on my itunes library and its slowly getting bigger and bigger.
Is there a certain limit for the itunes library size?
And if so, does apple support any kind of Online private storage where you can store your music library?

'iTunes in the Cloud' provides the ability for devices to re-download songs you have already purchased. There is no equivalent facility for movies or TV. There is no charge for this service.
'iTunes Match' enables you to upload from your own files songs you have obtained elsewhere than in the iTunes Store. The cost is $25 p.a. and there is a limit of 2,500 songs. Again, there is no equivalent facility for movies or TV.
iCloud does not provide general online storage. While there are other online storage services, if your library is very large you would find it impracticable to upload it even if you could find a service offering sufficient space.
Hard disks are not particularly expensive and your best bet would be to transfer your library to one.
